Dog Sniffs Out Cheating Spouse
Horst Hoefinger

yorieAre there now dogs being trained to sniff out cheating spouses? Well, not exactly, but a Yorkie in Italy did rat out his mom.

A Sicilian woman told her husband she was taking their dog for a walk.  A bit later the husband was out with the kids when he heard a familiar bark. He found his pup tied to a tree in front of a bar.

According to the Metro.co.uk, the husband looked in the bar and found his wife in a passionate embrace with the owner. This probably won’t come as a surprise, the couple is planning on divorcing. I wonder if there will be a custody fight over the dog? I’m thinking the dog goes with the husband.

If  anyone out there needs to keep their spouse in line, Princeton is up for adoption. He’s 3-months-old and was surrendered by the breeder who could not get him adopted. He is on Dogster’s Dog Adoption & Rescue Center, totally unrelated to the story, there was no picture of their Yorkie.

Photo Caption Contest: New Yorkie, New Yorkie
Mark Rogers

There aren’t many cuter things in the world than puppies…except maybe Yorkie puppies. Yesterday I photographed a litter of three 8-week old Yorkie pupplets and I think I may have actually overdosed on cuteness.

Other than cute, though, puppies almost always tend to do something goofy during a shoot and this one was no exception and produced this week’s caption contest photo.

Have at it, Dogsters. Give me your caption suggestions by commenting on this post and the winner of the 50-Zealie prize will be announced next Monday, June 15th.

100 Pounds Of Fur Shaved From Dogs
Horst Hoefinger

No, this wasn’t some kind of bizarre contest.  The dogs that were shaved came from a puppy mill in Greene County, MO raided last week.

So far, three of ninety-three dogs have been put down because of circulation problems that were caused due to the conditions in which they were kept.

The severe matting, which caused the circulation problems, was so bad some of the dogs could not bend their legs. A few of the dogs have had to have limbs amputated in order to save them. Other dogs with less serious conditions will still need weeks of rehabilitation.

The dogs were taken to St. Louis after the raid, where they are receiving medical treatment.  Interest in adopting the dogs has been overwhelming, even affecting the society’s phone system due to the volume of calls.

Anyone who is interested in adopting one of the dogs is asked to go to the society’s Web site at www.hsmo.org. The local Humane Society is not involved in the case and has none of the dogs.

The Humane Society is pushing for prosecution of the owners of these dogs.

Hundreds Of Dogs Removed From Puppy Mill
Horst Hoefinger

A puppy mill in Mt. Vernon, Washington has had hundreds of dogs removed in a two part raid.

Nearly 200 dogs were confiscated from two separate kennels south of Mount Vernon after authorities served search warrants for animal cruelty and neglect, Chief Criminal Deputy Will Reichardt of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office said.

The dogs were mostly Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus, poodles and Yorkshire terriers.

There was also a room that was housing about 20 female dogs that were nursing litters of pups.

About 25 volunteers removed about 150 dogs Wednesday that were evaluated to be in need of better care.

Those dogs were taken to a temporary shelter at the Skagit County Fairgrounds in Mount Vernon or to the homes of volunteers.

Another 40 dogs that were living in small crates, many of which were contaminated with their own feces and urine, were seized from another location on West Big Lake Road, Reichardt said.

The dogs were mostly Australian Shepherds. They are being housed temporarily in private residences of local volunteers until other accommodations can be made.

This is a huge operation, a second raid on the property seized over 300 more dogs.

The animals had been left behind during an earlier seizure at a home in the 16000 block of Mountain View Road.

Two of the 135 dogs seized in the original warrant have tested positive for a potentially deadly intestinal disorder called coccidia, and three more dogs seized Friday are suspected of being infected with it.

The dogs are being moved to the Skagit Valley Fairgrounds for treatment. Then they will be moved to shelters and foster homes.

Animal control officers are asking that anyone who has purchased a dog from the Mountain View kennel belonging to Richard and Marjorie Sundberg to call the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office as this information may be important to their investigation. Call Animal Control officer JoHannah Deterding at 360-336-9450 or e-mail Officer Deterding at johannad@co.skagit.wa.us

The group Saving Pets One at a Time is helping the dogs. People interested in volunteering or donating can find out how at the group’s site.

Also, the Chuckanut Valley Veterinary Clinic is helping the rescued dogs. They can be reached at phone: 360-757-3722 or e-mail:  info@chuckanutvet.com.
