Guardian Dies-Four Pups Need A Home
Horst Hoefinger

I just received a message looking for help to save four dogs that belonged to an elderly man who passed away. The deceased owner of these dogs, Mr. David M. Dodson was a career serviceman in the navy. He served a total of 21 years and was awarded numerous medals and honors.

The dogs were his life, he did everything for them and his biggest fear was the dogs would be put down when he passed.  His last wish was that his dogs find new forever homes.

This man served our country, put his life on the line, fought for us. Let’s make Mr. Dodson proud of his country by pulling together and fighting to make sure we find his dogs a safe place to live out their days.

The Brazoria County Humane Society in Alvin, Texas currently has all the dogs. There are 3 Malti-poos, pictured left, and 1 Terrier named Bullet (as seen in pic above) that need homes.

The dogs range in age from almost 5 to 9-years-old. If you are interested please contact Shirley at the BCHS via email.

Please post and crosspost this, Shirley isn’t worried about getting too many requests she just wants to make sure they all get new loving forever families.  If you are truly interested please contact Shirley direct, I do not have any more information than what I posted.

Mindful Maggie
Horst Hoefinger

A 72-year-old woman in Camden, NY had a car accident after falling asleep at the wheel.

Lucille Willson, the driver, struck a stop sign after her car went off the road and left her with serious injuries. No one was around when the accident took place so it didn’t get reported,  leaving Willson alone overnight with her terrier Maggie.

CAMDEN -Authorities are crediting a woman’s dog with keeping her conscious overnight after she was trapped in her vehicle following a car accident.

Willson was trapped overnight with her pet Terrier, Maggie, who helped keep her conscious, deputies said. The pair was extricated from the vehicle with the use of hydraulic equipment.

Willson was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with severe bleeding, exposure and compound fractures to her legs, deputies said. Willson was later transferred to University Hospital in Syracuse, where she was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Her terrier was not injured and was placed with friends of the family, deputies said.

The list of reasons to own a dog keeps getting longer, not only are they man’s best friend, they can fill in for a paramedic in a pinch.

Way to go Maggie!

*ADOPTABLE: Maise is a 9-year-old WHT who was used to breed in a puppy mill, she has had a very rough life. She’s an exceptional snuggler and deserves to live out her remaining years with a loving forever home.

Polly Want A Cupcake?
Bo Hoefinger

Since this is a dog blog, a couple times a month our boy Bo (woof!) thought it would be nice to get the news through a dog’s eyes. Bo invites everyone to read a chapter from his upcoming book BAD TO THE BONE at Bo Knows. It’s a funny memoir about the crazy adventures we have shared together over the last 14 plus years, told through Bo’s eyes. Okay Bo, take it from here…..

Chocolate. The forbidden fruit.

I think it’s a fruit because it’s certainly not a vegetable, and truth be told, vegetables are deadly too. It’s just that veggies steal a little of your soul one crappy asparagus tip at a time rather than the quick demise cocoa offers.

Check out how one Polly Purebred cheated death while cheating on her diet in this story from the BBC.

A dog narrowly avoided death after eating more than 20 chocolate cupcakes.

Polly, a one-year-old Patterdale terrier from Southampton, ate the cakes after being accidentally locked in the family’s kitchen by her owners.

Owner Yvonne Taylor found the canine surrounded by chocolate wrappers and, knowing of the dangers of cocoa poisoning, contacted vets.

Tia The Terrific Terrier
Horst Hoefinger

I’m one of those people that just can’t get enough dog hero stories. Today’s is especially amazing because Tia the Patterdale Terrier isn’t even owned by the man she saved.

Tia woke up Sonia Rampley, 78, in the middle of the night after Roy, 83, suffered a stroke and fell out of bed.

The five-year-old Patterdale terrier began frantically scratching at her hand. The shocked OAP immediately called 999 for an ambulance in the nick of time.

Mrs Rampley, of Norwich, said: ‘It must have been about 2.10am and I was lying in bed when Tia started scratching my hand.

‘She obviously wasn’t getting enough of a reaction with her paw so she got her claws out and I had blood and scratch marks on my hand, she was so determined to wake me up.

‘I said to her “You don’t want to go outside at this time of night do you?” and I took her out to the garden, but she just walked through the door and walked back in again.’

The grandmother added: ‘I went back upstairs to the bedroom and turned the light on and my husband was lying on the floor.

‘Roy had obviously been there for a couple of hours and was freezing cold as we don’t have the heating on in our bedroom.

‘He was paralyzed down one side – he just couldn’t speak or do anything.

‘If it hadn’t been for Tia I wouldn’t have found him until the morning when it might have been too late.’

The couple had been watching Tia, along with another dog, as part of a program called Barking Mad. It’s a local dog-sitting service run by Kevin Rowe,  used as an alternative to putting your dog in a kennel when  away. Your dog stays with a host family that provides a warm, loving environment while you’re out of town.

Mrs Rampley added: ‘It is so lucky we were looking after Tia. We’ll never forget what she did that night.’

According to Rowe, the Rampley’s are among his best pet-sitters. I don’t know what the Rampley’s get paid to sit, but I don’t think anything will compare to what they just got from Tia. The gift of life…priceless.

Wow, what an amazing story.

Every Vote Counts
Horst Hoefinger

Well, not exactly.  A suburban Seattle, WA woman registered her Australian shepherd-terrier mix, Duncan, to vote. Jane Balogh wanted to expose a loophole in the law  which makes voter registration so easy that any person, or dog, could be added to the voter rolls.

Jane Balogh (BAY’-loh) had been charged with making a false statement but entered into a plea agreement last year. A King County judge dismissed the charge Monday after Balogh showed that she had paid $240 in court costs and completed community service.

I wonder how long Duncan was sentenced to the doghouse for his part in this scheme?
