Another Breed, Just What We Need
Horst Hoefinger

ANIMALS Puppy 125670Every day, day after day, I report on the millions of unwanted dogs that are put down in this country. Today I read about a new breed, a  cross between a Belgian Malinois and a Siberian Husky to be called a Huskinois.

Whether you agree with buying a purebred or not, nothing is ever going to change because there will always be people who want to purchase a certain breed. I get that, and hopefully the dog is purchased from a reputable breeder.

What I have issue with is that there are breeders looking to come up with new breeds. Do we really need another breed? Aren’t there enough to choose from?  What about all the purebreds that are now showing up in shelters, is the Huskinois going to eventually end up in the same place?

Here are the details from The Press Association.

Mr Debenham, who co-owns DK9 Security Services in Ipswich, Suffolk, with his father Anthony, said the puppy was born late on Sunday last week. “People have been trying to breed the two dogs for years but for some reason they would not breed and the pups died hours after they were born,” said Mr Debenham. Woman Tangled In Dog’s Leash Falls And Dies
Horst Hoefinger

Beverly HeadTaking your dog for a daily walk is a great way for both you and your best friend to keep fit.

I’m sure those of you who do get to the park regularly have seen dog owners riding a bike with their dogs, on leash, running besides them. No doubt some think it’s cute, while others an accident waiting to happen.

If San Jose this exact scenario played out at the Los Alamitos Creek Trail, but this time ended in tragedy. A man on a bike with his two Siberian Huskies in tow were out riding when they passed Beverly Head on the trail, their leash  got tangled around her. The 62-year-old woman fell and died the next day.

Head, who walked in the park daily, had always been uncomfortable about bicyclists riding with their dogs running leashed besides them.  However, there is no law against it, no crime being committed.

Here are the details from the Mercury News.

Now, two weeks later, Bob Head is mourning his wife’s death and wondering why there wasn’t a way to prevent it. He is desperate to find the cyclist, who stayed to help the mother of three known for her deviled eggs and Halloween decorations, but left once paramedics came. Propelled by Head’s frustration. Volunteers Track Dog After Car Wreck
Horst Hoefinger

In Snowville, UT a group of dog lovers came together to help find a dog who went missing after being in a car wreck that killed his owner.

Two weeks earlier Joyce Moore of Kelso, WA was killed when her car rolled over on Interstate 84. Neo, a Siberian Husky, had watched as rescue crews worked on his owner but took off when someone approached him.

Volunteers went door to door telling ranchers and farmworkers about Neo. One estimated she had spent 60 hours “networking for Neo.”

On Thursday, a man at a ranch the team had already visited waved a searcher down, saying a dog had been found in a shed. He said he backed out quickly when the dog growled, latching the door.

Volunteers quickly notified Joyce Moore’s sister, Deborah Moore, also of Kelso. A volunteer was going to take care of the dog until Deborah Moore could pick him up.
