Dogster member Christy is a volunteer for a wonderful organization, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, which provides food to pet owners who can no longer afford to feed their pet.
Daffy’s has hooked up with the Making Of Miracle Stories Rescue Group for a puppy caravan. Since Christy is directly involved and knows much more about it than I do she was kind enough to write something up on the upcoming event
Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen welcomes and supports the Georgia Puppy Caravan. You’ve read blogs on Dogster about Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, a pet food bank in Lawrenceville, GA.
Daffy’s and the SOS Club were founded by Tom Wargo 12 years ago to provide pet food and services to families in need. Volunteers at Daffy’s work diligently to keep families and their pets together, they work continuously and hold a variety of fundraising events. This Friday, Daffy’s is lending a helping hand to The MOMS (Making of Miracle Stories) Rescue group by supporting the Georgia Puppy Caravan. MOMS was formed by two New Jersey women with their children in an effort to bring awareness to the millions of homeless animals in our country. They believe children to be the rescuers of the future.
The GA Puppy Caravan is (literally) a caravan of RVs, cars, motorcycles and planes traveling from New Jersey to Georgia on August 19-23, 2009. They are making this crusade because of their intense love and devotion to animals with support from Animal Rescue Flights (ARF), Freedom Train Animal Rescue Transports, Barking Hound Village, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, Animal Adoption Center, Georgia SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Dogs On Death Row, Rescue Ink, Save Our Pets Foodbank, Chattooga County Animal Control Shelter, Ningun Films, Bodhi, Grove Productions, OFG Productions. In addition, The Animal Adoption Center of Lindenwold, NJ travels with MOMS as a receiving rescue to transport rescued animals “Home”.

Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen is a wonderful organization that helps keep people and their pets together. If it weren’t for Daffy’s helping out local families in need to feed their pets most likely there would be a lot more dogs going to shelters. Now Daffy’s needs our help to keep them going.
How can you help? Spend a day of fun on Saturday, June 13th at the First Annual Daffy’s Day block party from 12-5, all proceeds will benefit Daffy’s Warehouse Fund.
DAFFY’S PET SOUP KITCHEN IN DANGER OF LOSING WAREHOUSE
This is bad news. Very bad news indeed for over 1,000 family members and over 2,000 pets we’ve helped over the past 10 months.
Daffy’s has recently learned that, due to the current economic crunch, our warehouse sponsor can no longer afford to help cover our lease expense and we will be faced with the possibility of closing the warehouse by September 1st if other sponsors don’t step forward to assist us.
The need for a soup kitchen to provide free food to pets continues to grow. Daffy’s now has multiple locations in eight states, has been contacted by 20 other states to start up, and in Georgia alone, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen serves more than 30 counties. This is all done with the help of volunteers and monetary and food donations. In addition, the initial startup costs and insurance is covered under Daffy’s umbrella; a division of the SOS Club.
Daffy’s needs your help now more than ever! Not only will your donation help the Lawrenceville, Georgia warehouse stay open, it will help the locations Georgia-wide and nationwide continue in their efforts. Without our Georgia warehouse we can not supply the other locations and without your help, we may not be able to keep our warehouse open. We currently distribute over 20,000 lbs. of food per month to families in need. Dogs and cats that we now feed will most likely end up in shelters with little hope of adoption.

There is a wonderful organization that started in the Atlanta area, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen. They are all about keeping pets and people together.
No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets. Daffy’s takes away having to make that choice, they provide pet food so you can stay together. They also have numerous other programs to help families and their pets.
Daffy’s is looking to expand nationwide and they need your help.
Our goal is to get 10,000 people interested in assisting or helping us start a Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen in every state. We are one of the largest pet soup kitchens in the country and probably the first.
We have been assisting with pet food for 11 years. We now have 6 branches in Georgia where it was founded and are starting branches in about 28 states. We need your help to let people know the importance of keeping pets at home where they belong and the benefit of keeping these families together.
See our interview on CNN and Headline News and visit our website and please sign up today and assist where and when and how you can. Every branch is mainly funded through our main office in Georgia so it is easy to start a branch in every area.

Pets are part of the family, there’s no doubt about that. For those out there having trouble feeding your dogs, don’t despair, there is help available. There are pet food pantries/soup kitchens across the country that are willing to lend a helping hand in these difficult times.
What are pet food pantries? They are places for pet owners to go where they can receive low or no cost food and supplies. The pantries owners will encourage or request recipients to donate time and/or skills to help out. It’s a win-win, owners are able to keep their beloved pets and give back to the community at the same time.
We have a local pantry, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, that was recently interviewed about what they do, and the difference their services can make.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) – Many pet owners facing tough times have been forced to give up their beloved animals because they can’t afford to care for them. One Metro Atlanta non-profit group is offering a helping hand to those in need by giving away free pet food.
The tough economic times are taking a toll on man’s best friend. The rising gas and food prices coupled with the high rate of foreclosures in Georgia are having a direct affect on pets.
More people are looking for ways to cut corners and some have been forced to give up their beloved pets.
Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen is trying to help owners struggling to feed their cats and dogs by providing free pet food.
Donations of food and other pet supplies poured into a warehouse on Oakland Industrial Court in Lawrenceville Saturday afternoon.
Daffy’s, part of the SOS Club of Georgia, is spearheading the program.
“We normally would have to drive to [people's homes] to try to meet them, assist them. Now, we can get people coming in off the street. We can help 10 times the people we’ve been helping before,” said Wargo.
Through their efforts, Wargo said he hoped fewer people would be forced to give up their pets to get by.
“Keep more pets home with their families where they belong,” Wargo said.
Daffy’s is in the process of expanding their operations, they are about to open a third kitchen, and are looking to start five more pantries in the metro area. Another local pet pantry is Meals “FUR” Pets, they even have a “Pet Meals on Wheels” program. It assists qualifying individuals with loving pets in need. Elderly individuals with pets, disabled shut-ins with pets who are not able to feed their furry family members. Over 25,000 pounds of pet food passed thru Meals “FUR” Pets organization in 2007.
The two pet food pantries I’ve mentioned are both located in Georgia, but you can find one near you too. Sometimes it take a bit of searching, until recently there have been no national pet food pantry resources, just individual sites. Now there are two groups that are working on changing that, Save Our Pets Food Banks and the HSUS are working on compiling a national list of pet food banks. If anyone has a food pantry or knows of one, both sites have a place to add the name to their lists.
These resources are there for a reason, no one should ever feel ashamed asking for help. At one time or another everyone needs help, the only shame is not asking.
I want to thank Dogster member Christy for barking to me about pet food pantries, suggesting I help get the word out to those who may not know about this option. Christy’s niece is associated with For The Love Of A Pet food pantry and boutique. It’s a great organization located on Cape Cod and is hoping to eventually expand throughout Massachusetts.
