Nothing comes between a dog and his toy…at least most of the time. For this week’s caption contest let me know what this Golden Retriever (named Dude) has on his mind and you could win 50 Zealies. The winner will be announced next Monday, October 19th. Submit your entries by commenting on this post and check out more photos of Dude
Good luck!

With dogs, posture and body language are everything — the most subtle movement can speak volumes. Your job, Dogsters, is to tell me what these two pups are saying. The best caption wins 50 Zealies next Monday, August 24, when the victor is announced.

I photographed this little Chihuahua named Flower last year and this photo of her with a favorite toy always makes me laugh. Dogsters, it’s up to you to make me laugh even harder with your caption suggestions. Enter your ideas for what Flower was thinking by commenting on this post below and you might be the winner of a 50-Zealie prize.
You’ve got extra time to come up with a winner, too, because this contest will be up for two weeks while I take a little time off to recharge and take more funny photos for this weekly event.
The winner will be announced on Monday, August 17th. Have fun!

To non-dog folks the photo below may be a bit alarming but we dogsters know that sometimes when dogs play sometimes there are bared. Needless to say, no pups were harmed in the taking of this photo and two seconds later both these guys were playing tug of war with a pull toy.
We’re back to crowd favorite — the double caption — so impress me. Submit your captions by commenting on this post below and I’ll announce the winner of the 50-Zealie prize next Monday, August 3rd.
Good hunting…

Sometimes dogs do something so human that it’s a bit eerie. The photo for this week’s contest comes from a recent photo shoot with a dog named Pico.
Supply the winning caption by commenting on this post and you’ll win a 50-zealie prize. The winner will be announced next Monday.
Good luck

A couple of weeks back I photographed two pitbulls for a poster to be hung in a local pet supply store. I wanted to try to get them both in one shot but after 45 minutes I was about to give up when their mom got their attention by throwing their favorite toy into the backyard pond. The result was this classic dog moment which I present to you, dogsters, for your captioning pleasure. Just submit your captions by commenting on this post. (see the rest of their shots here)
The winner will be announced next Monday, June 29th and will win 50 Zealies. Good luck!

This won't end well

When I asked for suggestions about this contest several weeks ago many folks indicated they liked the challenge of the double-quote contest when more than one animal was featured. Your wish is my command, Dogsters. Here you go. Let me know what both dogs are thinking and the best quotes will earn their writer a grand prize of 50 Zealies next Monday, June 1st when the winner is announced.

I see a lot of Vizslas in San Francisco and there’s one dog walker I run into occasional who walks Vizslas almost exlusively. Trust me, his pack really stands out in a crowd. The shot below is of two of the dogs in that pack at local San Francisco dog park.
Have at it, Dogsters. Provide your caption suggestions by commenting on this post and the winner will get a prize of 50 zealies when the contest victor is announced next Monday, May 11th.

A big round of applause to this week’s contest winner, Talmadge, who managed to pick words that fit this scene just perfectly. Well done, Talmadge. The 50 Zealies are well deserved.
And, as we draw near the first anniversary of this blog feature I’d like to get feedback from everyone — both regular participants and newbies — as to how we can improve the contest and make it even better. Just make your suggestions by commenting below.I look forward to hearing from you.

Life is really good when there’s an occasion to dress up your dog in a silly costume. What better time to do this than St Patrick’s Day. My model, Bizzy, actually likes wearing clothes so this wasn’t too much of a stretch for him–except maybe for the hat. (see more of his St Paddy’s shoot)
So, Dogsters, hoist a green beer and come up with a good thought-bubble caption for this little leprechaun by next Monday, March 23rd and you could win 50 Zealies.
