This week’s photo comes to you courtesy of a great little dachshund who goes by the name of Sammy Darby Jr (he lost an eye a few years back). Sammy’s an older fellow but shows no signs of slowing down.
To enter the contest just let us know what you think Sammy is thinking by making a comment below. The winner will be announced next Monday, April 6th and gets a 50-Zealie prize.

Dogs are masters at the expression of the moment–you can always count on them for the appropriate look for virtually any situation. This week’s photo was taken at the opening of a pet food and supply store featuring that happens to feature a self-service dog wash. I guess this fellow felt differently about it than his owners.
Ok, Dogters. Time to flaunt your verbal skills. Tell us what this guy is thinking by commenting on this post below. 50 Zealies go to the winner who will be announced next Monday, March 16th.

Our very own photographer Mark Rogers has won the 2009 Best of the Bay Awards category for best dog photographer.
We already knew he was number one, but now everyone will know. The contest was sponsored by Bay Woof, located in San Francisco’s Bay Area.
There are lots of great pet photographers in the Bay Area, but our readers voted Mark Rogers #1. His love of the subject is evident in every shot, including the one we used on the cover of our November 2008 issue! Surf some great shots at www.markrogersphotography.com, and be sure to check out his great blog.
The contest actually had lots of cool categories, 35 in all. Of particular interest are #33, naming Dogster.com as The Best Web Social Networking, but we all knew that . And category #35, The Best Overall Canine Website, Dogster.com came in as Runner-up. Thank you to all our fans who voted for us, we wouldn’t be where we are without you.
Stop by Bay Woof to see all the winners, and find the number one places to shop, eat, get treats, and so much more.
Lisa and I would like to extend our congrats to Mark and Dogster, both receiving well-deserved recognition.

Sometimes dogs do things so human-like it’s uncanny. This week’s photo, taken at a local get-together of San Francisco Dachshund owners, is of just such a thing. You look at it and you honestly expect the Dachshund to say something.
Have fun with this one, Dogsters. You know the drill. Submit your entry by commenting on this post and the winner — to be announced next Monday, March 9th, gets 50 Zealies.

French Bulldogs have been stars on this contest before and for good reason: they’re so freaking expressive. I recently had the opportunity to photograph a basic dog training class here in San Francisco and had he opportunity to meet a French Bully named Lola. She was tiny but, like other small-in-stature French leaders of the past, she really packs a punch and demands attention (too bad she wasn’t named Josephine)
For this week’s contest. the worthy winner who puts the right words in Lola’s mouth walks away with a 50-Zealie prize on V-day: Monday February 22nd.

With this week’s contest I’m fully expecting a tidal wave of toilet humor — given the image it’s going to be hard to avoid. But as I often say, potty humor has its time and place…every hour of every day. So, give me your best, dogsters. Winner gets $50 zealies and will be announced next Monday, February 16th. You can see more photos of this cute little manchester mix here.

Bulldogs are a hoot to begin with and you’re pretty much guaranteed a funny photo when you put a Bully and a camera in close proximity . When you have two the odds go up even higher. So, Dogsters, do this photo some justice with the funniest captions you can come up with.
Just enter your suggestion by commenting below and you could be the winner of a 50-Zealie prize next Monday, February 9 when the victor is announced.

This past weekend I took my dog to a local dog park and while we were there we watched the most monumental game of tug-of-war I’ve ever seen. Three dogs went at it for almost 30 minutes and by the end the rope was completely shredded and all three were so tired they could barely move. This is a shot from the first 10 minutes or so when the energy was really high.
I look forward to some colorful quotes befitting such an epic battle, Dogsters. The winner gets 50 Zealies and all you need to do to enter is comment on this post below

One of the things we all love most about our dogs is that they just do what feels right anytime or anyplace. This week’s photo honors that quality and I look forward to many witty entries. I’d also like to announce that we’re officially upping the weekly prize to this contast to 50 Zealies. So, Dogsters, earn that prize money. Submit your quot suggestions by commenting on this post. The winner will be announced next Monday, January 20th.

Sometimes taking on the challenge of a new year requires the brazen, straightforward attitude of one of our four-legged friends. Put your words in the mouth of this Chihuahua as he thinks back to 2008 Dogsters, and let us know how you plan on facing 2009.
The winner gets 50 Zealies in honor of the new year. Champion to be announced next Monday, January 5th.
