Dogster member Christy is a volunteer for a wonderful organization, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, which provides food to pet owners who can no longer afford to feed their pet.

Daffy’s has hooked up with the Making Of Miracle Stories Rescue Group for a puppy caravan. Since Christy is directly involved and knows much more about it than I do she was kind enough to write something up on the upcoming event

Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen welcomes and supports the Georgia Puppy Caravan. You’ve read blogs on Dogster about Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, a pet food bank in Lawrenceville, GA.

Daffy’s and the SOS Club were founded by Tom Wargo 12 years ago to provide pet food and services to families in need. Volunteers at Daffy’s work diligently to keep families and their pets together, they work continuously and hold a variety of fundraising events. This Friday, Daffy’s is lending a helping hand to The MOMS (Making of Miracle Stories) Rescue group by supporting the Georgia Puppy Caravan. MOMS was formed by two New Jersey women with their children in an effort to bring awareness to the millions of homeless animals in our country. They believe children to be the rescuers of the future.

The GA Puppy Caravan is (literally) a caravan of RVs, cars, motorcycles and planes traveling from New Jersey to Georgia on August 19-23, 2009. They are making this crusade because of their intense love and devotion to animals with support from Animal Rescue Flights (ARF), Freedom Train Animal Rescue Transports, Barking Hound Village, Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, Animal Adoption Center, Georgia SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Dogs On Death Row, Rescue Ink, Save Our Pets Foodbank, Chattooga County Animal Control Shelter, Ningun Films, Bodhi, Grove Productions, OFG Productions. In addition, The Animal Adoption Center of Lindenwold, NJ travels with MOMS as a receiving rescue to transport rescued animals “Home”.

Donations of food and supplies will be brought to GA and distributed through the guidance and good work of Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen. Due to their well known accomplishments, the volunteers from Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen were asked to assist in the distribution of the pet food and mentor other pet food banks in their efforts to help animals. Many animals will be saved from inhumane deaths because of the combined and extreme efforts of these groups. This is expected to be the largest awareness and rescue program Georgia has ever seen. You can help, please join us. To follow the crusade check the MOMS website and follow the Georgia Puppy Caravan.

Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen, a program of SOS Club, has many ongoing programs to save animals and help their human counterparts. Daffy’s has been delivering food on a regular basis to outlying animal controls and rural shelters in need keeping pets fed and off the euthanasia list. The latest program for Tom Wargo and his volunteers is the PAST (Pet Assistance Service Team) trailer (pictured above and purchased with the help of Petco sponsors). This trailer, along with our others, will be used to increase the areas the group can reach and support.

The MOMS Rescue is doing an amazing thing by organizing these groups to deliver thousands of pounds of food to Georgia and taking shelter animals to the northeast where they will have a better chance for adoption. The event will wrap up Friday night with a party at The Foundry at Puritan Mill in Atlanta. Tickets are $25 and the public is welcome. Please visit FultonAnimal Services for more information.

This is an incredible event that will bring much needed awareness to serious animal issues we face every day. Remember that Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen will continue feeding and helping animals and their owners across the country every single day – even after the Caravan has left. Your continued support will make that happen. Read more about Daffy’s Pet Soup Kitchen or call 404-345-6821. For more information on the SOS Club contact us via email.

We hope you will support these efforts. Show your support for animals by coming out to the Foundry on Friday night 8/21.

Wow, what an amazing event. Kudos to MOMS and Daffy’s along with all the other organizations involved to pull off this massive undertaking. All the people involved give selflessy of their time and money, let’s show our support by attending the event on August 21st or by making a donation to any of the wonderful organizations mentioned above.

If you’re a baseball fan there’s a fun event not to be missed at an upcoming Gwinnett Braves baseball game to benefit Happy Tails.

Happy Tails Pet Therapy is an organization that provides animal-assisted therapy and animal-assisted activity visits, for healthcare facilities, social agencies and special-needs programs in the metro Atlanta community.

The Gwinnett Braves will have some new volunteers on hand to help fetch foul balls on Friday, August 14th as Happy Tails volunteers and their canine companions team up to raise money for the non-profit pet assisted therapy organization.

At the game 50/50 raffle tickets will be sold, 50% of the money raised from raffle ticket sales goes to a lucky fan at that night’s game. The remaining 50% is divided evenly between the Gwinnett Braves (for their charity) and the evening’s participating organization…Happy Tails in our case!

It’s the dog days of summer, so come on out and enjoy a ball game and pitch in to help out Atlanta’s furriest friends. Gates open at 5:30 and the game starts at 7:00. See you there!

To get parking information and directions to the stadium please click here.

Over the weekend the 4th annual Lowes Dogs Surfing Competition was held to raise money for the Modest Needs Foundation.

The goal of Modest Needs is to prevent self-sufficient people and families from entering the cycle of poverty from one bad setback, to help working people with unaffordable work-related expenses and to strengthen small non-profits by providing them an opportunity to get grants to further their work in their communities.

Over 60 surfin’ dogs and their humans entered the competition, fun was had by all. The event was broken down for small and large dogs. There was also a competition for tandem surfing. The top prize was a getaway at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, not too shabby.

A favorite in the Large Dog category shows off his style in this video. Though he didn’t win, he did hang ten (or, more accurately, 18) very tenaciously, as any Bulldog should.

Yesterday I did a post on the upcoming Bark For Life event, a fundraiser to help fight human and animal cancers. When I was looking for a picture to use I searched on Dogster, that’s how I found Meatball.

Meatball is a Dogster member and is in the fight of his life after recently being diagnosed with cancer. He has a cancerous bone tumor, just beneath the surface on his face, close to his eye. Meaty is in otherwise great health and is a good candidate for surgery.

The treatment isn’t going to be easy and the cost for Meaty’s surgery and aftercare is very expensive, estimated to be around $5,000. His pup pals got together to have a fundraising auction, they have lots of great donated items to win.

If you would like to make a donation or put in a bid on one of the cool auction items go to his site at Meatball The Boxer-Fighting against Canine bone cancer.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m off to go put in a bid on a cute picture frame Lisa has her eye on.
