It’s Just A Click Away
Horst Hoefinger

The Animal Rescue Site is a great website that donates food to feed abused and neglected animals.  The concept is simple,  for every click over to their site .6 bowls of food is donated.  I’m sharing the following message to help get the word out because the site is having trouble getting enough people to stop by.

This is pretty simple… Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having
trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to
their site and click on the purple box ‘fund food for animals’
for free. if you can save the site on your computer you can donate each day.

This doesn’t cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Please pass this along to people you know.

If you’re forgetful, like me, there’s even a place to sign up for a daily email reminder.  It’s time to get clicking.

Dog Cake Making- The Video
Horst Hoefinger

I just ran across this amazing video from the folks at Confetti Cakes. It shows how they ‘cloned’ a living, breathing love machine into a delectable cake for all to enjoy.

This video takes the four days that it took to actually make the cake and condenses it into 4 minutes.  The end result is amazing.

The question I have, and I know many of you will ask the same thing, how much would it cost to have my own ‘buddy’ cake?

If you don’t see the video playing, please click here.

Is Your Canine A “Counter Surfer”?
Horst Hoefinger

After we got our precious girl Copper many years ago, we noticed she had a peculiar little habit.  Food was disappearing off the coffee table or any other surface snout high. We thought it surely couldn’t be Copper, for she was so good about everything else. An angel sent from heaven as my wife says. But then we took the blinders off.

The first episode happened right around that first Christmas.  A friend had brought over a plate of cookies which my wife innocently placed on the coffee table for guests to help themselves.  We went into the dining room for dinner and when we walked back into the living room Copper was standing there, her face covered in powered sugar and not a cookie to be seen. Her innocent expression just said, “Got milk?”

Summertime was no different. Sitting in the living room having grilled hot dogs and hamburgers on a tray, we never ate in the kitchen . After a bite, I got up to get a glass of water, foolishly putting my tray down on the couch. When I returned seconds later, there was Copper with a little bit of ketchup on her snout. Her innocent expression just said, “Got sauerkraut?”

This all comes up now because last night my wife was asking me to quit kidding around, and to give the blackened chicken (blackened on purpose, I think) she had made for dinner back to her.  She pointed to a very clean plate on the tray by the couch and just said, “Very funny honey. Just give me my dinner back.”

I admit I may have hidden a few meals throughout the years just to have some fun, but I didn’t know what she was talking about this time. What I do know is that Copper had the worst case of gas last night that almost forced me to sleep in the guest room. I’m now sure what happened to that meal.  When I woke up this morning I looked at Copper with her innocent expression that said, “Got Beano?”

Yes, she was a “counter surfer”.  We found out that Rhodesian’s are known for swiping food off of tables although I suspect it isn’t necessarily breed specific. She is a master counter surfer…nothing is spared and she is fast.

I’m sure there’s some funny stories out there about your own surfers. Don’t be shy, share them with the group!!

The Dog Food Project
Horst Hoefinger

Do you ever wonder what food to feed your best friend?  There are so many brands of food available, and such a wide range of ingredients it can be a bit overwhelming.  Having three dogs, all different ages, and of varying size it’s hard to find one food suitable for all.  I was surfing the web and I came across a site called The Dog Food Project , it’s a great source of information.

Do you know exactly what you are  pouring into your dog’s bowl?  Do you wonder how your brand rates when it comes to price vs ingredient safety and quality.  Do you know what ingredients to avoid?  Find out the answers to these questions and more at The Dog Food Project.

Help Give Free Kibble To Needy Dogs
Horst Hoefinger

Want to help out some needy dogs but don’t really have the time? Well here’s an easy way to contribute to the well being of our canine friends that will take less than a minute .

Just visit http://www.freekibble.com, answer the daily Bow Wow Trivia question and 20 pieces of kibble are automatically donated to an animal shelter. Don’t worry, if you’re trivia challenged like me, you don’t even have to get the answer right in order for your donation to count.

It’s a great idea that surely came from a grizzly veteran of the online wars, right? Wrong. This idea was created by an eleven year-old girl, Mimi Ausland, from Oregon who modeled the site after http://www.freerice.com that donates rice to the UN World Food Program. What a smart, compassionate young lady!

So please, click on the link and help a dog in need today. While you’re at it, give some love to the kitties too at http://www.freekibblekat.com.

Thanks for helping out some needy pups and kitties, and making a little girl’s dream of helping our fuzzy friends come true.

½ cup diced ham
1 egg
2 tbsp low-fat plain yogurt
2 tbsp canola (or safflower) oil
1 cup whole oat flour

What To Do

Combine the Force and water and allow to re-hydrate in a bowl for 15 min, then add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate batter for 30 min for best results. Line baking sheet with parchment paper, drop spoon-size cookies or squeeze from pastry bag. Bake about 7 min. at 400 degrees, then to crisp up, turn off the oven and leave the cookies inside for up to 1 hour (dependent on the level of crispness you want, and your oven).
