I received this urgent plea from Ginger’s Pet Rescue, they are trying to help save the abandoned dogs leftover after the California forest fires. If you can help please contact them as soon as possible, time is running out. Post and crosspost this message to all your dog loving friends, rescue organizations, or anyone you think may be able to help.

Many of the animals were about to be euthanized until Ginger’s Pet Rescue in Seattle intervened. They all have a story – we can see it in their eyes. They really even don’t need to tell us,” says Martha Gibson-Wolfe, one of the rescuers.

Volunteers with Ginger’s Pet Rescue say the dogs were on Death Row – frightened and confused – animals of all sizes, breeds and backgrounds.

All were lost, separated or abandoned by their families during the chaos of the recent wildfires in Southern California.

Animal shelters there could no longer house them all, and many were on the verge of being euthanized, until this group saved them.

“You see all these really nice dogs, and you think if the truck was just a few days later or even just a few hours later, they could be put to sleep,” says rescuer Catherine Hannan.

The forgotten dogs are searching for a new start.

WE HAVE 32 MORE FOREST FIRE DOGS COMING THIS SUNDAY ~ NOVEMBER 22th !!!

We desperately need fosters homes for this coming Sunday’s arrival!

The last four Sundays we took in over 120 dogs that were saved out of the California Forest Fires in San Bernardino.

There are over 800 acres on fire and over 1300 Firefighters and all these forgotten dogs were refused by the local shelter due to lack of space.

They give us two options either board them or euthanize them and because these dogs are so great we are boarding them & saving them and bringing them up to Seattle 30 dogs at a time !!!

These dogs are so lucky to be saved as many dogs did not make it out alive.

We are making arrangements to bring them up here on Sunday ~ November 22nd.

Please ask around to your friends, family and co workers for a month or two of loving a dog in desperate need.

* Must fill out a Foster Application

Date of Arrival: November 22nd SUNDAY

Time: Late Afternoon

Place: South Seattle

* Remember it’s all about saving one dog at a time !

* Please e-mail me and let me know that you can help !

If you can not foster, donations would be deeply appreciated as many of the incoming dogs are sick.

* Leashes, Collars, Dog Food, Crates, Pee Pads would be great and you can drop off to address below!

Our address is 322 North 105th ~ Seattle, Wash 98133

You can PayPal your donation to our website at www.gingerspetrescue.org, contact via email.

Thank You and all the dogs really appreciate all your help!

I just want to remind everyone that the official kickoff of American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month has begun. It’s a great time to adopt a rescue dog or help out by volunteering your time at a shelter.

Send me in your dog’s rescue story, using the ‘Bark Back‘ form, and if I feature it on the blog you will win 50 zealies.

You can become a hero to a dog this October by observing and celebrating the American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Dog Month® event. Millions of dogs in shelters are facing an uncertain fate, and many more are joining them each day due to the effects of the recession on pet owners. But there are simple steps each of us can take to make a difference in these dogs’ lives.

Save the day for a homeless dog — and find a faithful companion who will be at your side for all of life’s adventures — by adopting a dog from a shelter or breed-rescue group during October. It’s the perfect time to visit the shelter, meet potential sidekicks and discover how much fun and happiness a dog can add to your life.

Companionship, improved physical and emotional health, social interaction and devoted love are just a few of the super-size benefits of having a dog. Dogs also encourage people to exercise, enhance family and social relationships, promote laughter and act as a nonjudgmental audience and sounding board.

Bringing a dog into your home is a lifetime commitment (the dog’s lifetime, that is) and can require immense lifestyle adjustments for everyone in the family. If you aren’t ready to adopt, but still want to make a difference for homeless dogs, here are some other ways to celebrate Adopt-A-Dog Month:

Volunteer: Shelters and rescue groups are always looking for dependable people who can help in almost any way. Are you good at taking pictures or working on websites? Offer to take appealing photos of adoptable dogs and post them on the organization’s website. Do you have a way with words? Volunteer your time to help edit the organization’s newsletter or website. We all have something to offer; we just need to ask how we can help!

Support: While financial support is always welcome, your donation of blankets, toys, dog food and volunteer time are just a few of the things you can offer homeless dogs in your community. You can also make contributions to help fund grants that are available to community shelters and rescue groups through American Humane’s Second Chance Fund and its Foreclosure Pets Grant. These grants help abused, neglected, abandoned or relinquished pets and are funded entirely by donations, so your support goes directly to help these animals get the care they need to survive.

“Right now there is a greater need than ever for people to go to a shelter and find their new best friend,” said Marie Belew Wheatley, American Humane president and CEO. “The nation’s economy is negatively impacting community shelters and rescue organizations, filling them to capacity many times over. This October, we hope people will renew their commitment to help these animals that are so in need of forever homes.”

I just received a heartbreaking email about a dog named Buster. The pictures are very disturbing, the boy was at death’s door when someone found him.

I know there is a kind soul out there who is willing to give this poor boy a chance at life, a good life. He is currently in Staten Island waiting for a forever home, he doesn’t have much time.

A Volunteer Wrote:

Buster arrived here as a stray. To put it mildly, he was at death’s door: he was starving and his body was covered in sores (from urine stains). We can only assume that before finding himself on the street, he was kept confined, in filthy conditions, and not fed. I met him day after he arrived. He was sleeping in the back of his cage, curled up in a ball. We gently nudged him awake, and he dutifully stood there while we put a leash on him. And then we discovered the wonderful resilience of animals … even those who should never trust another human again. But Buster was grateful for our attention, for the walk, for the opportunity to relieve himself outdoors, and for some yummy dog food (we have to feed him small servings). He’s around 8 years old and weighs a mere 35 pounds.

Anyone interested please contact Brett of Kodi’s Club Rescue at 917-292-9154 or via e-mail. Please post and crosspost this message. I cannot bear the thought that Buster will die without ever having known love and kindness from a human.

Patty is an old gal who probably gave her family years of unconditional love, in return she is now sitting in a shelter waiting to be euthanized. She was found wandering the streets and no one has come to claim her.

Patty’s time is up, if she doesn’t get a home immediately this beautiful girl won’t get a chance to live out her golden years.

This sweet old gal is sitting in an overcrowded and chaotic shelter, scared and confused as to how she got here. Patty came to the Humane Society of Greater Akron several weeks ago as a stray and no one has come looking for her. Now she sits, waiting to find what her future holds. This is where a kind hearted rescuer needs to step in!!! We need help for Patty!

She is a 10+ year old yellow lab and approx 65 lbs (she is not too thrilled we are revealing her weight to so many!!!!) She has been fully vaccinated, heartworm tested (negative), wormed, and up to date on flea and heartworm prevention. We do not believe her to be spayed. Due to moderate arthritis, she is on senior vitamins and joint supplements twice daily to help her feel better and move a little easier She also has some dental disease which may need future attention. Because her teeth are not the best, she is a huge fan of canned food…oh yes, and she also LOVES hotdogs as well!

This girl is low key as most of her days are filled with lounging around and getting plenty of beauty sleep. She is very fond of large fluffy dog beds/blankets and getting as much attention from humans as possible. Gets a little annoyed with other furry friends so this older gal would love to be spoiled and rule the roost as an only doggie! Her temperament with people is wonderfully loving.

It tears us apart to see her so scared and alone at our shelter. No one is adopting her and she deserves better than a noisy shelter kennel to live out the rest of her time on this earth. I am afraid she does not have much time left at our shelter before a decision may be made to euthanize her so WE MUST GET HER OUT ASAP!

Patty will be released to an approved and reputable rescue at no charge….we would just like to see her go somewhere safe that will give her a chance. A donation of wet food and a few extra comfy blankets will come with her of course!!! Any rescue interested, please contact me right away. Transport help is available.

Please call Shannon at 330-657-2010 ext 105 or email if you can help save Patty.

I received a bark from Dogster member Annabelle about a rescue that is in desperate need of help.

A New Jersey woman who runs the Room For One More rescue is being evicted from the building the shelter resides in. The landlord has decided to sell the building and has given her only until June 25th to get the animals out. That’s four days!!

For years, Michelle Stymacks has been taking in and finding homes for abandoned, abused dogs and cats through her “Room For One More” rescue shelter in Hopatcong.

Her success stories are all over the walls.

“It means everything, it’s what I’ve been doing for years,” Michelle says. “It’s all I want to do.”

Right now, Michelle has 42 animals living at the shelter, mostly from impounds where they were in danger of being euthanized for space. And that’s the rub.

“They are, unfortunately, back in the same situation they were in,” Michelle says.

Michelle says the landlord has decided to sell the building in which the shelter operates, and that she and the animals would have to be out by June 25. But it gets worse.

“If they are not out of here by June 25, there is a strong likelihood that they will be put to sleep because there’s no other place for them to go,” she says.

So now, Michelle is doing everything she can, working with animal control officers, to relocate the animals she’s so committed to protecting.

She’s even pleading with anyone she can to help.

“I want to say to people, if they are in a position to adopt a dog or a cat, to please contact us,” Michelle says.

CBS 2’s calls to the rescue shelter’s landlord were not returned.

For more information on how to adopt one of the dogs or cats, call Michelle Stymacks at (973) 770-6700 or send her an e-mail .

There is no time to wait, if you can help please act now, otherwise it will be too late. Please post and crosspost this, send to everyone you know. There are only four days left to help these animals.

I received a message about Joey and once I saw the picture of him walking on a treadmill I just had to post.

Rob, who works at the Agoura shelter, has been working with the gorgeous pup (they let them take them home to work with every once in awhile…what a glorious thing!). Rob’s a very good handler, and obviously sees some amazing stuff in this dog, Joey. He’s already trained him to the treadmill!

Hi, my name is Joey! Yes, I know I look a little intimidating, but I actually have a very sweet and gentle side. I’m about 2-3 years old and am currently residing at the animal shelter. As you can see, I’m in great shape. I love walking on the treadmill and going for walks in the great outdoors.

Because I’m a young, enthusiastic guy, I need a professional trainer or dog behaviorist who will give me the structure and guidance needed to raise me right.

If you think you’re well qualified to handle a guy like me, be a life-saver and call my friends Rob and Diane right away to see if we would be a good match. Call (805) 341-1203 or (805) 777-1033.

This is a very sad story, a woman battling cancer has had to give up her beloved pet. To be fighting this horrible disease and then to have to give up her dog is just heartbreaking.

I’m sure if she knew someone out there is willing to give Macey a new home it would be one less burden. If you can help the time is now, otherwise it may be too late. Macey is being held at the shelter in Lawrenceville, GA.

This sweet girl was brought in to the shelter in hopes of finding her a new home. However, due to the sheer volume of dogs that are being turned over “Macey” was slated to be euthanized.

“Macey’s” owner is a 42 year old mother of four who is battling cancer and returning to the hospital immediately. Her husband is staying at her bedside for 18 hours a day. Sadly, he does not have time to care for the dogs and his family.

“Macey” is a pleasure to be around, is house broken, friendly, knows “sit” and her name. She is a lab mix with a very lady like face. Perhaps she has some Doberman Pinscher in her. Both are wonderful family dogs. We are unable to confirm her spay surgery but will certainly research this further. She will need to be confirmed spayed prior to her leaving the shelter, and will be up to date on her vaccinations. We believe she is 5 years old. “Macey’s” owner was very difficult to understand through her crying and sobbing, so not all of the information may be accurate. The one thing I am sure of is that she loves people and is well mannered.

If you have any room in your home and heart for this girl please contact us. “Macey” was concerned yet loving and trusting throughout her unsettling experience being in the euthanasia room. Yes, she was that close.

If you’ve ever wondered about the ‘Kill List’ emails you receive really making a difference, good news, they do. So, the next time you get one, instead of hitting delete hit forward.

Take a look at the following message from a woman in Canada who has helped saved animals in the U.S. all with the touch of a key.

As you all know (I have been sending you all the euthanize list from Greenville, SC) I have been cross posting this list to rescues in the state and all over.

I am happy to report back that a number of rescues have gotten back to me to let me know they have pulled dogs from the euthanize list and they are now in no kill sanctuaries or with fosters.

Crybaby the blind boxer that I helped rescue was actually adopted by his foster. That made my day–fantastic news!! This is a HUGE raising of consciousness and I am hoping cities all over the country will pick up on this—I am estimating I have saved 10-20 dogs from doing this just from the rescues that have gotten back to me!! I have saved all these lives !! Incredible!!

This really works and it needs activists to get it going because NO ONE is helping these dogs! If I hadn’t stepped up to do this all these dogs would have been killed–I am in Ontario Canada and am saving dogs in South Carolina–that is the miracle of this–anyone, anywhere with their computer can save lives!!

The letter below is from the Director of the BGHS in Bowling Green, KY. They are in desperate need of help, full beyond capacity and asking that you spread their message far and wide.

Please crosspost everywhere!!
Please post on BLOGS and bulletin boards!!

Shelter is desperately overcrowded, and euthing hundreds of animals for space. See Lorri’s plea below. They DO NOT WANT to kill, they need rescue help NOW!

Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society

Bowling Green, KY (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY18.html)

Rescue application:
http://www.bequizze d.com/bgpets/ rescue_app. php

If you’ve never rescued from them before, submit the application, then send an email to Lorri to inquire about animals.

They are in dire need of rescue help for both dogs and cats. EXCELLENT shelter to work with. Evals are great, and they do full vetting at reasonable rates.

Hello everyone~~

This is Lorri with the Bowling Green Humane Society. I am putting out an URGENT plea!! Deana is on vacation, so I am not sure if I have left a lot of people off, so PLEASE forward to EVERYONE you know in case I have. I am sure that she will also forward this when she gets to a computer.

Normally we do not send out these types of pleas, but things are BAD right now, and they are only going to get worse in the upcoming days!!!!!

Just this month (MAY), we have received 1,023 animals!!!!! !!!!!! 68 of these were TODAY alone if that tells you the pattern we are in!! We have euthanized 303 animals this month ALONE, 40 of those TODAY! This will get WAY WORSE in the next few days because we are FULL BEYOND BELIEF and there is nowhere to put anything. PLEASE, if your rescue is able to help, we need it! The animals need it. We have SO many WONDERFUL animals, and they deserve a chance to get a forever home.

Please help us crosspost this far and wide! To pull from us, you must be an approved rescue with an application on file. If you have not filled one out, please visit our website (under my signature) and there is a “rescue application” link on our homepage.

PLEASE KNOW THAT WE CAN NOT HOLD DOGS UNTIL MONDAY AFTERNOON PRIOR TO THAT TRANSPORT!! We can not put holds on dogs this weekend, we need adoptions so we can save others. Please start looking though. We will start taking lists on Monday, but PLEASE email and let us know if you can pull on that transport ASAP! That way we will have some what of an idea how many will get to go. We will even rent a second van if our box van fills. We are DESPERATE!!!

Thank you all so much for always being there for us! Deana and I have NO idea what we would do without all of you.

The BGHS had one transport on 6/6 but still have thousands of dogs and cats in need. Get those paws typing, it’s time to spread the message far and wide.
