Mark Rogers Wins American Humane Photo Contest
Horst Hoefinger

I just got great news, our very own Mark Rogers won the grand prize in American Humane’s  Pets & Pals Photo Contest. Looking at the picture it’s easy to see why, congrats!

Here’s Mark explaining how the photo came to be…

The photo that won is one of my favorites from this year. It’s a shot of a cute Maltese named Louis taken in my backyard studio called “Give Me Paw”. It was one of those on-a-whim deals where I thought it might look cool if I got on my back and got Louis looking down from above. Of course, right after the shot was taken he jumped on my stomach but at least he’s a Maltese and not a Mastiff.

Mozart In Cutest Dog Competition
Horst Hoefinger

Dogster member Mozart is entered in the Cutest Dog Competition and he needs our votes. MoMo, as his friends call him, is a 19-pound Cavalier King Charles spaniel named after 15LVstroupWolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He was adopted as a puppy by Cara McCool who thinks he is the cutest dog in the world.

McCool lives in New Orleans, she originally moved there after getting her master’s degree from LSU.  After Katrina she moved back to Baton Rouge but in 2005 realizing how much she missed The Big Easy moved back. She is hoping MoMo will get enough votes to win the $1 million prize so she’ll be able to donate large portions to a variety of  local causes.

momo1031445_1252682597She was president of the Louisiana Music Teachers Association at the time and helped established the Save Our Students fund to provide scholarships for children of families who had lost everything in the storm.

Mark Rogers Barked As #1 On Bay Woof
Horst Hoefinger

Our very own photographer Mark Rogers has won the 2009 Best of the Bay Awards category for best dog photographer.

We already knew he was number one, but now everyone will know. The contest was sponsored by Bay Woof, located in San Francisco’s Bay Area.

There are lots of great pet photographers in the Bay Area, but our readers voted Mark Rogers #1. His love of the subject is evident in every shot, including the one we used on the cover of our November 2008 issue! Surf some great shots at www.markrogersphotography.com, and be sure to check out his great blog.

The contest actually had lots of cool categories, 35 in all.  Of particular interest are #33, naming Dogster.com as The Best Web Social Networking, but we all knew that . And category #35, The Best Overall Canine Website, Dogster.com came in as Runner-up.  Thank you to all our fans who voted for us, we wouldn’t be where we are without you.

Stop by Bay Woof to see all the winners, and find the number one places to shop, eat, get treats, and so much more.

Lisa and I would like to extend our congrats to Mark and Dogster, both receiving well-deserved recognition.
