Which Dog Books Rise To The Top?
Horst Hoefinger

As I’m perusing the internet this morning I come across an article on dog books by Jill Rosen, she writes the Unleashed column for the Baltimore Sun. Today’s article, Drowning In Dog Books: Which Titles Rise To The Top?, mentions some dog books she has sitting on her desk and what’s there but Bo’s book BAD TO THE BONE : Memoir Of A Rebel Doggie Blogger.

She wants to know what dog books readers are putting on their holiday lists and recommending to friends.  Please help Bo get to the top, here are the details from the Baltimore Sun.

Bo coveframerThere are seriously, seriously, seriously sooooo many dog books out there, I’m starting to lose track. At least a couple times a week a new one or two arrives in the mail.

There are heartwarming memoirs of man and beast, manuals for keeping the hound healthy, those that explore ways to understand the canine.

It seems that ever since Marley & Me skyrocketed to the top of the bestseller list, leaving sequels, a movie and who-knows-how-much-money and wet tissues in its wake, dog lovers have gotten really busy typing.

So here’s the question. I’m sitting here surrounded by new (and new-ish) titles including Speaking for Spot, The Wolf in the Parlor, Inside of a Dog, Marley & Me, To the Rescue, Power of the Dog, Bad to the Bone, Dogtown, Good Dogs Doing Good, Happy Dog, Fetching Dylan, Paws & Effect…the list goes on.

Which of these books are tops on your holiday wish list? And, more importantly, which dog books are front and center on your shelf, the ones you recommend to folks, the ones you’d read again if you had the time, the ones you found most meaningful….

Please share. A lot of us would love to know how to separate the dog lit wheat from the chaff.

And….yes….there will be booty sent out to some of those that comment.

For those of you that read BAD TO THE BONE: Memoir Of A Rebel Doggie Blogger Bo would eternally grateful if you would leave a comment in the comment section of the Baltimore Sun (click on the link, you’ll go directly to the article) recommending it and sharing why you enjoyed it.

If you do, leave your name here and you’ll be entered to win a pawtograhped copy of Bo’s book.  Thanks Dogsters!

* Jill Rosen…if you read this Bo loves your column and would be thrilled if you interview him!

Win A Copy Of BAD TO THE BONE, The Pawfect Holiday Gift
Horst Hoefinger

Bo coveframer

As a fun way to kick off the start of the holidays we’re offering up three pawtographed copies of Bo’s book BAD TO THE BONE: Memoir Of  A Rebel Doggie Blogger.

Just in time for the holiday season, “Bad to the Bone: Memoir of a Rebel Doggie Blogger (published by Kensington Books), the first memoir ever written by a dog, is a laugh-out-loud look at how a canine and two seemingly normal people wreak havoc on an unsuspecting world while creating a lifelong bond in the process.

Bo Hoefinger is not your everyday, run of the mill author; he’s a mixed-breed shelter dog with an attitude.

Let’s get this clear right away: I’m a dog.

I’m 1′10″ and weigh 63 lbs, and although I’m a mutt on the outside, I’m a purebred on the inside. My good nature comes from the Golden Retriever side of the family, while my stubbornness is clearly from my Chowchow bloodlines. I’ve got Rastafarian ears, a black tongue for licking, and paws that should be on a dog twice my size.

I type 60 words a minute.

My name is Bo, and this is my story.

From shelter dog reject to beloved pet and popular doggie blogger, Bo’s life has been anything but ordinary.

Good Day Atlanta Xtra Appearance
Horst Hoefinger

On Thursday I made my first TV appearance on Good Day Atlanta Xtra, our local Fox 5 station.  Bo was not able to come so I brought, the yet to be mentioned, Kensy. We got him not long ago and with all that has been going on haven’t formally introduced him.

How we got him is actually a funny story, it involves one visiting sister-in-law and PetSmart. Lisa and her sister, Marcy, went to go grab some dog food, a daily errand at our house. The only problem, it was dog adoption day, never a good idea. Before Lisa knew what was happening her sister had jumped out of the not yet parked car and found us a new dog.

We had actually been thinking of adopting a playmate for Logan, since Bo can’t play because of his age and Copper never really did. Long story shorter….they never made it into PetSmart to get what they went for but our family did grow by one fuzzy member.

We had our first book signing on Saturday, October 17th, it went great.  We had 37 books and sold out!  I want to give a special shout-out to Bella’s dad Alan who drove about an hour to come see us.  I also want to thank everyone again for all the support we’ve been receiving, for helping spread the word about Bo’s book.  If everyone keeps passing on Bo’s info I know his adorable mug will be in front of bookstores in no time.

Culling Poop In Taipei
Bo Hoefinger

dogpoointaipeiHey- It’s Bo here, sharing the scoop on poop….

When owners tell their pups to “jump”, most dogs will ask how high?

When I hear that phrase, I ask why? I mean, why risk a hip fracture? Why risk a twisted paw? Why risk leaving mother earth for even a split second?

When I bark “jump”, my owners know it’s time for them to jump off the couch and let me out, or in, depending on the circumstances. It’s to the point where I just move my jowls without making a peep. In the flash of eye, they drool and spring to life to open the door.

It’s a nice party trick but it’s got nothing on what Taiwanese dogs are doing to control their human counterparts. There’s gold in them there poops and Reuters has the full story.

TAIPEI (Reuters) – A city in central Taiwan is offering shopping vouchers to volunteer dog waste collectors in a bid to clean up a perennial problem caused by the large number of stray animals island-wide. Read the rest of this entry »

Courtesy the Editors of The Bark

Can dogs really smile? The editors of The Bark decided to find out by launching a smiling dog contest at a reader’s request eight years ago – and have since received thousands of photos of pups that not only smile, but laugh, grin and even appear to share jokes with one another.

Over 400 of the best photographs from The Bark’s collection now reside in a book called DogJoy: The Happiest Dogs in the Universe. And we’ve got five copies to give away to the first five Dog Blog readers to respond to this post with a valid e-mail address (just so we can contact you for an address to send the book to.)

Please post and crosspost about Bo, every little bit helps.

‘Ask Dog Lady’ Asks Bo About His Book
Lisa Hoefinger

dog_lady_logo_homeI want to let everyone know that ‘Ask Dog Lady’, the syndicated columnist, has asked Horst and Bo to be on her radio show this Wednesday the 7th.  Bo is a big fan of the Dog Lady and thrilled to be on the show to talk about his book BAD TO THE BONE: Memoir Of A Rebel Doggie Blogger.

The radio show is on 980 WCAP Wednesday, October 7th at 2 pm (EST) and can be listened to live or later via podcast .

Dog Lady was kind enough to preview Bo’s book before it came out and gave him 5 paws up.

“Bo’s rebel adventures in naps and squirrels will stir the heart and stoke human understanding of how dogs must think. His ‘voice’ is utterly original, sharp, and kind.”- Monica Collis, “Ask Dog Lady”

I want to thank all the Dogsters that have already ordered a copy of BAD TO THE BONE, we really appreciate the support. If you liked joining Bo on his adventures please leave a comment in Customer Reviews, Create Your Own Review on Amazon. Bo could really use the feedback and will send treats to the Dogsters who leave a nice message.

We need to get the word out about BAD TO THE BONE and would be extremely grateful if you would tell all your doggie loving pals about the book and ask them to do the same. It took three years to get this published, breaking into the literary would when you’re a writer in a fur suit is not easy,  we need to show the publishers out there that the dog lovers of America are ready and willing to buy a memoir written through a dog.bookcover

Order your copy now and give your pups something to bark about.

THANK YOU!

Bad to the Bone: A Dogster Dog Pens His First Book
Horst Hoefinger

bookcover“You’ll laugh, you’ll howl, you’ll practically wag with pleasure….Bo is truly the voice of his doggy generation” – Dr. Marty Becker

“Witty commentary and hilarious observations.”—Dog Living

“A real treat. Bo is so distinctively adorable and funny, that no other dog will be able to follow in his pawsteps”- Tracie Hotchner

From shelter dog reject to beloved pet and popular doggie blogger, Bo Hoefinger’s life has been anything but ordinary.

Join this incorrigible canine as he welcomes us into his life, complete with his wacky “parents,” a constipated feline housemate, and chipmunk warfare. Bad to the Bone is an unforgettable, laugh-out-loud tale of love and loyalty that reveals the true heart of a modern American family.IMG_4248

A frequent contributor to local fence post 12, Bo continues his nonprofit work with the Beneath the Fence Society. In his spare time he dabbles in knocking over garbage pails, barking uncontrollably, and generally being a helpful force around the house.

He lives in Atlanta.

Grab a copy of BAD TO THE BONE for yourself and then a few for your dog loving friends. Can you think of a better gift for a dog lover than a book written by a dog? The holidays will be here before you know it and Bo thinks every dog in America, and beyond, should wake up x-mas morning to find a copy of his book in their stocking. It also works well as a gift for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, Bo doesn’t discriminate against any breed or holiday.

Bo’s book is now available, you can order online at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, BooksaMillion.com, indieBound.org, borders.com, or your favorite retailer. Spread the word to all your pup pals so they can get themselves a copy of the first memoir written by a dog ever published in non-fiction.

A big thank you goes out to the fine folks at Dogster HQ’s for all their support and help. A note of gratitude to all the Dogsters out there who believed in us and wanted to see a book written through a dog’s eyes, it’s you guys that helped make this happen.

Thank you to all!
