Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the ugliest dog of them all ?
PETALUMA, Calif. – A prominent under-bite, scrunched face and floppy ears are the hallmarks of a winner.
The winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog contest, that is.
Pabst, a boxer-mix rescued from a shelter by Miles Egstad of Citrus Heights, Calif., won the annual contest on Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California.
It was an upset victory for Pabst, who beat former champion Rascal, a pedigree Chinese Crested.
Pabst’s owner took home $1,600 in prize money, pet supplies and a modeling contract with House of Dog.
Congrats to Pabst on his victory. Although personally I think this guy is pretty cute, c’mon, how can you look at that face and not smile?

Recently I made an annoucement concerning the Milk-Bone contest finalists, two of which were Dogsters. One of them is Wyatt, a very handsome Boxer, who made it into the top three. He is going to be featured on an upcoming Milk-Bone box, but even more important, he gives the gift of life.
That’s right, Wyatt is a canine blood donor. He’s a rescue dog who was adopted by Dr. Jacqueline Falke, as a veterinarian she knows the importance of blood donation.
Sometimes an injured dog needs blood, and a friend with a big heart. Meet Wyatt, Dr. Jacqueline Falke’s boxer, a rescue dog who’s a canine blood donor.
“Being a veterinarian I know how important blood and plasma is in medical emergencies. So I really want to make sure that any pet owner or any pet has that available to them if they need it,” said Dr. Jacqueline Falke, veterinarian.
Dr. Falke works at the Everhart Animal Hospital in Brooklyn. She recently entered Wyatt in a nationwide contest: a search to become the face of Milk Bone. Wyatt’s good deeds helped him come in third. He also is raising the awareness of canine blood donations.
At Everhart, Wyatt is a superstar.
Wyatt has donated enough blood to save the lives of more than 50 dogs. I think he’s a superstar in everyone’s eyes, dogs and humans.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this special boy, can’t wait to see his face on a Milk-Bone box. He has more than earned that honor.

In late February an Ozark County breeder set fire to his kennel. River Valley Kennel, owned by Michael VanderWall, had been under investigation since September. At that time he signed over 50 dogs because he couldn’t meet the licensing requirements. He was given until January 31st to get the proper licensing and pass inspection.
VanderWall continued to operate without a license and on February 24th, after setting the dogs loose, he (allegedly) set fire to the buildings on his property. He was said to be distraught over the recent separation from his wife, financial issues, and the possibility of losing his animals.
Dogs that Rold said were classified as “critical” are being moved today, including injured dogs or mothers and puppies. The Central Missouri Humane Society is taking 14 dogs, including bull terriers, boxers, German shorthaired pointers and two English springer spaniel mothers with seven puppies younger than 2 weeks, Rold said.
The Kansas City-based English Springer Rescue of America will take as many as 50 dogs, Rold said, and other cooperating rescue organizations will take others.
The breeder specialized in English springer spaniels and German short-hair pointers, Rold said. A Web site advertising the River Valley Kennel and Ranch in Gainesville specializing in those breeds identified the breeder as Michael VanderWall.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has also stepped in and is working with the Missouri Department of Agriculture to help place the dogs in rescue groups. If you would like to help the Missouri 75, visit the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America and/or Midwest PAWS to find out how to make a donation or foster.
The owner of River Valley Kennels is currently incarcerated in MO, facing felony arson charges. Additional charges may follow.
