You’re Never Too Tough To Care
Horst Hoefinger

One of our pals, Mattie, brought this heartwarming story to my attention.  It just goes to show no matter how tough you look on the outside, sometimes you’re just a big softie on the inside.

About 15 years ago, a group of animal-loving, tattooed bikers in the New York area began acting on behalf of abused animals. The men volunteered at shelters and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Toward Animals, and they tried to solve cases of missing or abused animals that other organizations had neither the time nor the resources to address.

About a year ago, they took up the name Rescue Ink, and now work full time investigating cases of animal abuse. Members of the group recently responded at a site in Elmhurt, Queens, where a caller had reported that five pit bulls were caged in the back of a used-car lot.

This is such an inspiring story.  It really goes to show that the old adage, don’t judge a book by its cover, is true. There’s a great slide show that goes along with the story, well worth taking a minute to view.

It’s Just A Click Away
Horst Hoefinger

The Animal Rescue Site is a great website that donates food to feed abused and neglected animals.  The concept is simple,  for every click over to their site .6 bowls of food is donated.  I’m sharing the following message to help get the word out because the site is having trouble getting enough people to stop by.

This is pretty simple… Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having
trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to
their site and click on the purple box ‘fund food for animals’
for free. if you can save the site on your computer you can donate each day.

This doesn’t cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Please pass this along to people you know.

If you’re forgetful, like me, there’s even a place to sign up for a daily email reminder.  It’s time to get clicking.

You Gotta Have Friends
Horst Hoefinger

Friends, you can’t live without them, especially best friends.  One of Bo’s best friend’s, Minister Misty, told him about Best Friends Animal Society and the amazing santuary they run for homeless animals.

The sanctuary at Angel Canyon, at the heart of the Golden Circle of national parks in southern Utah, is home on any given day to about 2,000 dogs, cats, and other animals, who come from shelters and rescue groups around the country for the special care they can only receive at Best Friends. The sanctuary is also a destination for 30,000 visitors and volunteers each year.

Best Friends saves animals that were already at a shelter and considered “unadoptable”, the ones whose luck has run out.  While others may have given up on these animals, this group works with them to rehabilitate them and find them a home.

Most of the animals who find a safe home at Best Friends have special physical or behavioral needs, and our expert staff of veterinarians, trainers and caregivers offer them all the help they require. Most of them are ready to go to good new homes after just a few weeks of special care. Others, who are older or sicker, or who have suffered extra trauma, find a home and haven at the sanctuary, and are given loving care for the rest of their lives.

Whether these animals are adopted out, or find a permanent home at the sanctuary,  they are given a new lease on life.  A life  that is safe and pain free.  A life that every animal deserves.

Best Friends is working with you and with humane groups all across the country to bring about a time when homeless, unwanted animals are no longer being destroyed in shelters, and when every healthy dog or cat can be guaranteed a good life in a caring home.

If you’re planning a trip to Utah’s Golden Circle of national parks you can visit the sanctuary at Best Friends Animal Society. While there, stop by  Dogtown or Kittyville (for those Catster’s out there), make a donation (you can do this one over the internet too), or just get yourself a new best friend.  After all, you gotta have friends.

Needed: Loving Homes For Two Very Special Dogs
Horst Hoefinger

You see abuse stories everyday but here’s one that really caught my attention. This story is from Cullman County in Alabama.

Two dogs found beaten and bloody in a bag of dog food are ready for adoption according to Cullman Area Animal Welfare Association president Linda Morgan.

These two have survived a horrendous situation and deserve a wonderful caring forever home.  They are going to have some special needs so it’s important to find the right placement.

The dogs are hound mix and have developed medical problems as a result of the abuse. One dog named R.C. is totally blind. The other named M.C. may have a slight neurological problem because his depth perception appears to be off, said Mathis.

They may have special needs but it sounds like you won’t find more loving dogs than these two, amazing after what they’ve been through.

Anyone interested in adopting the dogs should contact Sonya Mathis at 256-636-4627.

I urge anyone that may have information to contact the sheriff.  We need to get people who could do this to defenseless animals off the streets.

According to the Code of Alabama. a person is guilty of animal cruelty if he or she killed or injured an animal without good cause. In Alabama, animal cruelty is a Class B misdemeanor.sless animal off the streets.
