First Person Account of Life for One Iraqi, Iraqi Dog Parent Sends Dog Away to Protect Him
Joy

It doesn’t matter what side of the Iraq War you’re on; this article is a touching, very personal account of how the constant danger in Iraq is separating this pet parent from the dog he loves.

Thanks to the LA Times for this real-life tearjerker.

In Iraq, a man bereft of his dog, his life

Amid the shooting, an Iraqi sent his pet away. He hopes that one day, in a safer world, he’ll run in the garden with Lucky again.
September 2, 2007

BAGHDAD — The writer is an Iraqi staffer in The Times’ Baghdad Bureau. His name is being withheld for his safety.

I hated to send Lucky away.

Lucky is my dog. He’s black and reddish-brown, with white on his paws and black spots on his face — probably a German shepherd mix. He looks a lot like the dogs that search our cars when we go into the Green Zone.

“I’ve Been So Hungry” — For the Food Aggressive Dog
Joy

Dogsters are so talented! And they have so much empathy for our furfriends! This piece is by Dogster Darby’s furmom, Kathy Pippig Harris. She posted it in the Pet Poetry Group. Let me warn you that this is very powerful and could cause massive eye leakage.

I’ve Been So Hungry

When I was an older pup the boy where I lived would bring a bowl with a few morsels of leftover human food in it. I was so hungry I hurriedly started eating, then the boy would snicker, reach down and yank the bowl away. My tummy would rumble
because I was still hungry, but I would get nothing else to eat that day.

Kiev Woman Lives in Abandoned House to Help Over 70 Dogs She Has Rescued from Streets
Joy

Kievrescuer.jpg

There are some situations that speak to your soul. This is one of those.

Here is a woman who has done much more than most of us to protect and care for the dogs who need her. I hope that some organization sees this post or another about her and steps in to help her set up a proper shelter. Its the very least that she and her rescues deserve.

Thanks to English Russia.com for this post.

Dogster Cheesecake’s Appeal for Pit Bulls: Let’s Try a New BSL
Joy

Cheesecake.jpg

Dogsters and Catsters are not just some of the most caring people on the planet; they are also some of the most talented. Take Cheesecake’s furmom, Jennie, for example and her stirring essay reprinted below.

Let’s try a new BSL: Begin Speaking their Language

There are a thousand pit bull faces in my mind. I have never seen a fighter.

I have seen a puppy chained to a post, left for years, while a collar grows into her neck. I have seen that dog lick the vet tech as he pulls back the infected skin from the wound. I have seen that dog, quivering, start to play with other dogs, learn to love people. I have seen that dog find a home.

Joy

Dutchess.jpg

I’ve been writing this blog for over a year now and Dogsters’ greatness of heart still continues to amaze me. Dutchess left unexpectedly and tragically for the Rainbow Bridge a little while ago. She was young and vibrant. Her death was a shock to her family and friends.

So what did the wonderful Dogsters do to remember Dutchess? Well, let’s Dutchess‘ furmom tell the tale:

Tammy Lin wrote:
Joy, would you please post this for the Dogster Family, in Memory of my Dutchess. I know not everyone reads the forums. I wish to send my love and sincere thanks to those who just made my day!

This is from Tammy, the human mommy to these rug rats of mine and those beautiful angels in heaven.

“Patiently, he waited” — Poetry from the Pet Poetry Group
Joy

Legalas.jpg

Thanks to Legalas’ furmom for this moving poem! It comes from the Pet Poetry Group.

This poem shares with us the beauty of being a furmom. What a way to celebrate Mother’s Day!

“Patiently, he waited”

A scrawny white pup, no longer wanted, sits all alone outside
He could’ve run off if he had wanted, for he was no longer tied
But somewhere from inside his heart he knew someone would come
To take him from this lonely life, to a place he could call home~
So patiently, he waited.

Snoop Dog Beagleys Help Fellow Dogster Mr. Socks With Wishes and Gifts
Joy

Mr. Socks.jpg

If you’re having one of those days when you’re doubting the goodness of some people, read this! Even if you’re not, read this post! It will brighten your day and make your eyes leak.

Thank you to Agatha for barking this in.

Hello Top Dogs!
I just had to share this heartwarming story with you! I know that you all love to hear about positive experiences that people share on dogster and I thought that this one was just too good not to share.

I am an Admin. in a dogster group called Snoop Dog Beagleys and one of our little members ( Mr.Socks) experienced a terrible injury!

He was diagnosed with a ruptured disk and his hind quarters were paralyzed.

We were praying that it was only tempory, that he would be rehabilitated and be able to walk again. His parents were so incredible! They are awesome people and they gave Mr. Socks every advantage available during his treatment.

Well, all of the Snoops got together and sent him a huge get well basket, full of treats and toys to cheer him up while he recovered. We received this message soon after the basket arrived and I do not think that there was a dry eye in the thread! Please enjoy reading this beautiful letter. It is evidence to the power of love!

You will not beaglieve this!
