FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –Vernon, CT — Sept. 18, 2007— Bravo! announces a voluntary recall of select tubes of three of its poultry products for cats and dogs. The pet food is being recalled because two of the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, while the other product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

I guess we all suspected this was coming didn’t we? Millions of human Chinese-made toys have toxic levels of lead. It should be no surprize that pet toys are just as dangerous.
So where do we buy North American-made or European-made dog toys? If you’ve got a source, please bark it in!

Two Chinese-made toys for pets sold at Wal-Mart stores contain elevated levels of lead, chromium, and cadmium, according to a forensic toxicologist whose lab tested the products for ConsumerAffairs.com.
Two veterinarians, however, said the levels of toxic metals found in the toys do not pose a health risk to dogs or cats. Whether the toys are a hazard to children and adults who handle them isn’t clear.

Update: AVMA warns of potential new threat to pets
“The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has recently been made aware of several complaints from pet owners and veterinarians that multiple brands of jerky treats manufactured in China have been making pets sick. Symptoms of illness have included vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. To our knowledge, no deaths have been reported.

Itchmo Blog is reporting that PetSmart has sent out a notice to their stores to pull some Smokehouse Dog Treats off the shelves due to some dogs being made sick by them. I haven’t seen the memo but if you have any Smokehouse treats it would be a good idea to hold them back and not give them to your furbabies until we hear more.

A recall has been announced of two of the country’s best-known pet foods.
Mars New Zealand Petfood spokeswoman Mary Sutherland is asking people who have bought Pedigree and Optimum dog rolls with best before dates between the 16th and 19th of October to take them back.

Here we go again! Another problem with Chinese food products. What a surprize (NOT). I used to feed Nutro but you can bet I won’t be touching ANY of their products again!

Los Angeles Salad Company Voluntarily Recalls Product Because of Possible Health Risk
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Industry, CA — August 22, 2007 — Los Angeles Salad Company, located in City of Industry, CA is recalling its “Genuine Sweet Baby Carrots” with a Sell By Date Code up to and including August 16, 2007 printed on the back of the packages because the product may be contaminated with the bacteria Shigella. Shigella infection can cause diarrhea (which may be bloody), fever, nausea and vomiting. Illness usually lasts from 4 to 14 days. In some persons, especially the very young, the very old and people with compromised immune systems, the diarrhea can be more severe. Infection can occur after eating and drinking food and water that is contaminated with Shigella and can be passed from person to person.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — FRANKLIN, Tenn. — August 21, 2007 — Mars Petcare US, Inc. today announces a voluntary recall of select 50 lb bags of Red Flannel Large Breed Adult Formula dry dog food sold in two stores in Pennsylvania. Only three bags of product were actually sold, with only one bag still unaccounted for. The pet food is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause serious infections in dogs and cats, and, if there is cross contamination, in people, especially children, the aged, and people with compromised immune systems.
