The noses used to sniff out anything from cocaine to bombs are now being used to sniff out another menace – bed bugs. A New York company is offering the services of a pack of six dogs who can sniff out bed bugs from apartments, hotels and hospitals in New York City. The dogs are used to sniff the blood sucking bugs out of mattresses, carpets and upholstery – their usual hiding places.

Protection dogs show their capabilities at sport carnival

IT WAS time well spent for dog lovers who showed up at the dog sport carnival held at the SRJK (C) Serdang Baru 1 grounds in Jalan Sekolah, Seri Kembangan over a recent weekend.
Organised by the Selangor Working Dog Club, the event featured a dog training community showcasing the capabilities of the canines and the teamwork between the dogs and their handlers in the Schutzhund trials.

Senior Constable Dave Whyte and his dog Edge received the Gold Merit Award for disarming a man who stabbed himself before twice stabbing the dog.

Termite Sniffing Dogs Patrol Palaces
A pair of dogs have become guardians of Korea’s ancient palaces, trained to sniff out termites that damage the wooden buildings. The Cultural Heritage Administration said it’s the first time dogs have been used to guard the palaces since Korea won its independence. It’s also the first time animals have been used to help preserve the nation’s cultural landmarks.
