Dogster Barks in Request for Help With Symptoms of Canine Breast Cancer
Joy

Noel barked in to ask for help with his pregnant Chow.

Noel, the first thing I would advise is to get your girl to a vet and have the vet check out her breast and the mole on her back. That said, it is not unusual for mom dogs to have some breasts get bigger than others. As for canine cancer symptoms, perhaps a fellow Dogster knows more and would like to share their information. Please bark in!

Have a nice day!!!

I just want to know if or what are the signs or symptoms of breast cancer? coz i have a female chow. she is pregnant and she is expected to give birth on Sept. 13, 2007. I wonder why one of his breast become larger than the others ,and for me it is not normal.

Landscaping and Dogs

Thanks to Patti Steward for barking in this very helpful article from About.com.

8 Tips for Landscaping With Dogs
From David Beaulieu,
Your Guide to Landscaping.

Dog Urine and Lawn Care: What to Do About “Dog Spots”

Is your landscaping going to the dogs? Is your lawn riddled with “dog spots?” There’s no reason that you can’t have both dogs and attractive landscaping. But landscaping with dogs does present challenges that may require some compromises. The goal in this balancing act is to achieve an attractive, dog-friendly yard.

Effective landscaping with dogs begins with the recognition that a business-as-usual approach won’t work. If your dogs are to be allowed to run about in your yard, you’ll probably have to make adjustments to your landscaping. Landscaping with dogs primarily entails making concessions to the dogs, as you’ll see from the strategies below. I do, however, offer one glimmer of hope that you can, instead, adjust the dogs to the landscaping. Either way, if you fail to make some sort of adjustment, then dogs will make a mess of your yard.

Two-Legged Missouri Maltese Puppy Needs Help
Joy

SmallPawslogo.gif

Jacquie barked in looking for help for a special little Maltese puppy who needs extra help. She was born without her front two legs.

Besides hoping someone can help this little furbaby, may I also suggest that this breeder IMMEDIATELY spay ALL their dogs? This “breeder” obviously is NOT a responsible breeder (this is a rare genetic condition that happens when the dogs have been bred irresponsibly). They need to avoid breeding any more dogs until they can do it correctly.

Dear Joy,

I just received an e-mail from Small Paws Rescue, the largest Bichon rescue effort in the US. They are looking for anyone who can help Hope, a newborn maltese puppy who was born with no front legs. I know there are people out there who are especially able to work with dogs with this type of need.

Here is the text of the Small Paws e-mail regarding little Hope.

Dog Poisoned by Tainted Pet Food Needs Advice

There may not have been any new recalls for a while but the effects are still all around us. Lois emailed in asking for help with her furbaby who was one of the thousands of dogs poisoned by tainted food. If you have ideas or ways to help, please bark in!

Lois Munson wrote:

My dog is in kidney failure from the contaminated food. Getting her to eat anything is turning into a full time occupation! She will eat a little of something i.e. chicken breast, steak, hot dogs, hamburger, shrimp, bacon & egg for a couple of servings and then turn up her nose. Any suggestions on what else I might try. She is hungry and keeps going to her dish, but won’t eat.

Got an Aging Pet? Schedule Routine Bloodwork to Catch Health Problems Early
Joy

Nika.jpg

Recently I changed vets. I was very glad to see that my new vet runs annual bloodwork tests on all dogs over a certain age. While my older furbabies came up clean on the tests, it does add some peace of mind to know that everything looks good.

Thanks very much to Nika and her furmom for sharing this informative piece with all of us. We’ll all be pulling for you, Nika!

I wanted to share this with you… hoping that maybe you can highlight to the animal loving folks out there about the importance of getting routine bloodwork on your pups as they get older. Nika is the perfect example of why. A bouncing happy 9 year old Husky that everyone thinks is a puppy based on how she acts… only her routine bloodwork gave us the clues needed to find out she had a mass growing on her liver.
