Jaxon and Haint

It was great chatting with Dogsters at this past weekend’s Archon Science Fiction Convention in Collinsville, Illinois! We had a lot of fun and talked a lot of dogs! Two-year-old Jaxon here got so excited about seeing the stuffed versions of Haint and Major from the book Haint, he just had to wear one!

Next stop — Nederland and Denver, Colorado the last week in October. More on that later!

Last Chance to Get Your Dog in “Haint”
Joy

Haint: A Tale of Extraterrestrial Intervention and Love Across Time and Space

As much fun as I’ve had reading all the entries I will have to close the Haint contest as I turn the page from September into October. That means there are just a few more days to enter the “Get Your Dog in a Book” contest.

For those of you who may have missed the original posting a few weeks back, I’m running a contest to find one or more new dog characters (and maybe even breeds) to go in the now under construction sequel to my novel, Haint: A Tale of Extraterrestrial Intervention and Love Across Time and Space. To keep it fair, here’s the original posting:

If you haven’t read Haint here’s a very quick thumbnail of the scifi doglit novel. Haint is told from the point of view of two characters — the Weimaraner Haint and his human, Amanda. There are other breeds and dogs mentioned in the novel including St. Bernards, Pugs, Airedales, Great Danes and especially Border Collies. The novel is set in the future where people are living in tribes based on their preferred breed of dog. If you would like to read a few chapters, check out my web site.

Have You Ever Wanted to See Your Dog in a Book? — New Contest!
Joy

Haint cover

I want to announce a new contest I’m running on the blog. I’m in the midst of writing the sequel to Haint: A Tale of Extraterrestrial Intervention and Love Across Time and Space and she thought it would be fun to invite Dogsters (and other dog lovers too) to help her choose one or more new characters.

Joy on Randy Grim’s “Animal Tails” Radio Show This Friday!
Joy

Randy and Quentin

Talk about fun! I’m going to be on Randy Grim’s radio show this Friday! The show is called “Animal Tails” and runs from 12 Noon to 1 PM Central time on WGNU AM 920.

What you say you aren’t in the St. Louis area so you can’t tune in? Well through the miracle of the Internet you can click on and hear the whole thing on your computer! Follow this link to the “Animal Tails” page and look in the upper right hand corner for a button that connects you to the station’s live feed.

I’m just one of Randy’s guests this week.

FRIDAY, JULY 21: Randy says it’s “a full packed show” this week–and here’s why…his guests include MARYANNE MOTT, author/reporter for National Geographic (she’s even done a few stories on Randy!); “GEOFF THE GADGET MAN FOR ANIMALS” (every pet pal could use a gizmo or two!); and, in the studio, JOY WARD, author of the new science-fiction novel HAINT–and editor of www.dogster.com, the most popular dog blog on the web!

It should be fun! Listen to the show and bark me your comments afterwards!

Joy to be in Richmond, VA for Ravencon
Joy

Haint
Barking out to all you Richmond dogs! I’ll be visiting your city April 20th to 23rd to attend Richmond’s newest literary science fiction convention, Ravencon. If you’re a scifi fan or reader you might want to check it out. The Guest of Honor is Terry Brooks, one of my favorite fantasy writers! Ravencon is being held at the Doubletree Inn at the Richmond Airport and runs from Friday the 21st into Sunday the 23rd.

Pepper

Thanks to all the folks who dropped by the booth at Midsouthcon in Memphis March 25th through 27th! This is Pepper in her natural outfit. She won a prize later that day in the Masquerade. Pepper and her dad Glenn portrayed “Van Helsing and a werewolf.” Thanks to author Robert Brown for this photo. Robert’s work is published by Yard Dog Press. Unfortunately, other than werewolves, Yard Dog doesn’t carry any dog lit.

If you come to Ravencom, drop by and bark at me personally.
