Warming trend hits sled dog race
Alaska’s Iditarod will permanently move its official start north for better snow conditions.

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA — Modern challenges are catching up with the world’s most famous sled dog race.
Citing rapid urban growth and a warming climate, officials with the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race said Wednesday they were implementing permanent logistical changes that in recent years have become the norm for the March event.

Protection dogs show their capabilities at sport carnival

IT WAS time well spent for dog lovers who showed up at the dog sport carnival held at the SRJK (C) Serdang Baru 1 grounds in Jalan Sekolah, Seri Kembangan over a recent weekend.
Organised by the Selangor Working Dog Club, the event featured a dog training community showcasing the capabilities of the canines and the teamwork between the dogs and their handlers in the Schutzhund trials.

Northern Manitoba dogsled team has the blind leading the not-blind
Isobel, a six-year-old husky cross, has all the great qualities of a sled dog. She loves to run, has strength and endurance, and works well alongside the other dogs tethered to the sleds that take tourists out on the subarctic terrain of Churchill, Man.

Mesa man invents bike seat for dogs

It seems dog owners are barking the praises of Glen Malmskog for coming up with a unique way for them to ride their bike and schlep their pooch at the same time.
The 49-year-old Mesa resident invented the Saki Seat, a dog seat for canines 40 pounds or lighter, to rest between the legs of any confident bicyclist. But his initial idea was not for the general public. He was just looking for a sport that included his 8-year-old Shiba Inu, Saki.

EAST TROY, Wis. (AP) — Ricky the Dalmatian spun across the floor with his 68-year-old handler, the high-stepping Mary Ann Coutley. The two were one of 23 pairs of handlers and pets participating in a three-day dog dancing class that ended Sunday at the Army Lake Camp and Retreat Center.
