As a fun way to kick off the start of the holidays we’re offering up three pawtographed copies of Bo’s book BAD TO THE BONE: Memoir Of  A Rebel Doggie Blogger.

Bo Hoefinger is not your everyday, run of the mill author; he’s a mixed-breed shelter dog with an attitude.

Let’s get this clear right away: I’m a dog.

I’m 1′10″ and weigh 63 lbs, and although I’m a mutt on the outside, I’m a purebred on the inside. My good nature comes from the Golden Retriever side of the family, while my stubbornness is clearly from my Chowchow bloodlines. I’ve got Rastafarian ears, a black tongue for licking, and paws that should be on a dog twice my size.

I type 60 words a minute.

Since Halloween is coming up this weekend I decided to post some cute pics of dressed up Dogsters. We’re going to have a little fun with the photos, we need some funny captions  so it’s time to put paw to paper and get creative. For each caption chosen the Dogster who submitted it will win 25 zealies!

It seems sadly apropos that I post a contest today to win a beautiful memorial to honor your dog’s memory.

If you’ve ever suffered through the heartbreak of losing a pet you know how devastating it is. The terrible void it leaves in your life. It’s not just the loss of a dog, it’s the loss of a family member, a friend.

For those that aren’t dog lovers, they will never understand the importance of being able to say a proper goodbye. Being able to grieve without being criticized, share your feelings without anyone saying it was just a dog. There’s an online site, Peternity, where you can go to connect with others that are going through the grieving process. They have a place where you can post free online memorials, a wonderful way to honor your dear friend.

I just want to remind everyone that the 5th Annual World’s Coolest Dog & Cat Show has begun. You can enter your pup’s photo or vote on someone else’s.  Earn zealies just for voting!

Here are more details from Dogster HQ’s.

* The contest is open to anyone registered at Dogster or Catster. It’s free and only takes seconds to join.

* Submit photos in as many categories as you want.

* Vote for your favorites. The more you vote, the more Zealies you’ll get.

* Entries and user voting will run from October 14 to November 18.

* The top five vote recipients in each category will be named finalists, and the winner in each category will then be chosen by our esteemed contest judges.

* Finally, the vote goes back to the people. From November 18 until midnight, December 16, you can vote for your favorite finalists to determine the Best Dog and Cat in Show!

One of our favorite artists, Kathryn Beals, is back and offering up another of her gorgeous portraits for a Dogster contest. We had a contest with Kathryn back in April and had over 126 entries!

Along with painting, Kathryn has been very busy working on her website and blog since the last contest. You can go to her How I Paint blog and watch her while she painted Dogster member Jolanda, a very talented service dog. She even has an entire section just of the Dogster dogs she painted, they’re great, go check them out.

The amazing thing about Kathryn is that she’s self taught. Her portraits are a great gift to give yourself or one of your dog loving friends. It’s also a wonderful way to memorialize your dog, something special you’ll have long after your best friend is gone.

One of the best things about Kathryn’s work is that she guarantees it. If for any reason you are not happy you can get your money back. How many artists offer that deal? I can tell you, not many.

Dogster member Mozart just contacted me know about The Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge. They’re giving 73 shelters the chance to win a part of a $100,000 grant.

North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue is entered in the Animal Rescue Site’s Shelter Challenge! And they could really use the funds!

Although I personally did not come from this Rescue, me & Mom have done some demos for their Fund Raisers & we’ve visited their Shelter a lot. I was used as Demo Dog for some training Dog Haven did for them.

North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue could really use our help! I mean, just look at the vet bills they have, yikes!

They champion the Bully Breed! Many of their rescues have been pulled from Death Row! Many have been rescued from being Dumped by   Uncaring Humans! Many may never find their Furever Home but will always be welcome at NMAR!
