Have You Seen Sam?
I received a message about a woman who was in a car accident, her dog Sam was with her and she escaped the scene and is now missing. Leigh, the woman in the accident, will be alright but is in the hospital recovering.
If any of you live in the Bonaire, Georgia area, the accident happened at the intersection of Watson Blvd. & I-75 (Veterans Parkway). Sam is a coy dog, chow/coyote mix. She is wearing a collar and new tags, and is also microchipped.
Her owner is still in the hospital with very significant injuries. She has not even been able to put up flyers or go look for her. The dog tends to overheat and the owner is worried she may have gone into shock. The tow truck driver said he saw a dog heading toward Russell Parkway.
Houston county animal control and the police have been notified. If called the dog will most likely NOT come to anyone. My friend is very worried her dog may be shot since she is a coy dog. She has owned her since she was a puppy. The dog is about 10 years old.
Keep your eyes open for Sam. Leigh is a sweet person, she loves Sam with all her heart, she is her best friend in the world. It would be great if we could help bring Sam back to her so she’s there when she gets out of the hospital.
Please contact owner Leigh at cell 478-972-3431 if the dog has been sighted.

Poor Sam must be so frightened. I hope he is okay and makes his way home.
This is why Abby always wears a K9 seatbelt — and this is absolutely NO criticism of this poor woman — but after my accident, I was so grateful Abby hadn’t been in the vehicle because at that particular time, I had put off making her wear one.
I was fortunate that I was reminded of the importance of strapping her in during a situation where she wasn’t actually with me. I could have just as easily have been in this woman’s shoes.
I hope she has a speedy recovery, and I hope that Sam is home where he belongs very soon.
Praying that Sam comes home safe and sound….a sad reminder that we need to buckle in our pups.
I’m also praying that Leigh and Sam are re-united and that Sam’s ok.
I think it’s absolutely great of you to run this notice.
You rock.
Benny says “wooof”
We are praying for her.
oh i hope sam can lead his home now and GOD will help him…..
Thank you *so* much for posting this on your website. As one of Leigh’s care2 friend of friend, I’ll also be praying that all the good folks who will be out there hunting for Sam, and posting notices, have cooperation from everyone, and that Sam is soon where Leigh will know he’s safe. Good luck to all of you wonderful people volunteering to help.
I’m praying that God will help her find her way home
First, the sort of, good news. I received a message from a friend of Leigh’s tonight around 9:30 pm Eastern time, that said that Sam has been found, but had been hit by a car. Sam is now at the vet’s. Please keep the prayers and positive, healing thoughts coming for both Leigh and Sam. I’ll drop back if I hear anything more.
Btw, Sam is a female.
oh, that’s wonderful Sam is found!
we are praying for her and Leigh also!
Merrily,
Thank you for the update! Will keep them both in my prayers. I got a message about this on care2 and sent to my friends. Glad she was found! Hope she will be ok. Tell Leigh we are praying for both of them. I know what it is like to have a sick/injured dog that needs you and you can’t be there for them because you are fighting for your life in the hospital. I don’t know Leigh, but do feel for her. Please keep us informed. Thank you!
Sam didn’t make it. She crossed over to the bridge Monday evening.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Leigh, we are so sorry to hear about the loss of Sam.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.
So sorry to hear this! Thanks for the update. I am happy she was found and did not die alone. Leigh does not have to worry and wonder how she is and where she is. Was praying for a better outcome. Leigh, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Please everyone Buckle your dogs in. I started buckeling my dogs in after having to slam on the brakes and one of my dogs slammed into the windsheild. Thank God he was not hurt. Many times dogs slide off the seats. Could get seriously hurt if not strapped in. Also keeps dogs confined so they don’t distract the driver. Also keeps them from hanging out the window, which can (and does), cause harm to them in so many ways! Harnesses for seatbelts can be found in pet stores. Not very expensive.
Leigh please don’t take this comment as critisism. It is not your fault! My heart goes out to you and your family.
I’m so very sorry about Sam. So very sorry.
Like the rest of you, I am thankful she was at least found. No new word on how Leigh is doing, but I’m sure she’s hurting, badly. Janet, who organized the area wide search of 200+ people, took it very hard, as did I. We were so hoping and praying Sam would make it.
My husband and I plan a trip north to visit relatives before relocating to Hawaii, with our Aussie Hannah. She will be wearing a seatbelt harness for the trip, although it’s very easy to forget to put her in it, since she’s always so good in the car.. never trying to get into the front seat, and mostly just laying down to wait for the next stop. However, given that she was the ONLY pet we now have, after losing all our dear Burmese cats when someone burned our home, she has become even more precious to us. The kitties will have a memorial stone with plaque listing each of them, in the area of our lot where they’re buried. Half of them were not found at all, and I allow myself to believe that at least some got out, altho I know the chances are very slim. They’d always been inside kitties, for their safety, so they didn’t know to run.. they hid. Hugs to everyone who is praying and hoping with me for Leigh, and us on our long trip.
