Michael Vick Speaks At Church
Michael Vick spoke against dog fighting yesterday at a church in Washington, D.C., the appearance was sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States.
Since his release he has partnered with the HSUS to help bring national awareness about this sadistic “sport” and bring an end to it.
Here are the details from the Associated Press.
“I got caught up in the culture,” Vick told an audience at the Covenant Baptist Church, per the Associated Press. “I never thought that I would get caught.
“I used poor judgment. I had people around me who didn’t have my best interests at heart,” he said.
“Who knows what could have happened at 3 in the morning when you’re fighting dogs?” he said. “It’s almost like being involved in the streets, dealing drugs, in criminal life.”
I’ve got to tell you, I’m not hearing a lot of remorse in his statements. Not once does he actually take credit for what he did, he blames it on others and is glad he didn’t get hurt while involved in dog fighting.
Several dozen people showed up to hear him, about half were teens or children.

Its gonna take a lot more than that to convince everyone that he is truly remorseful for sure..Blaming others is not the way…He has to prove himself truely remorseful.
I just wonder when he is going to blaming others for his choices. Until he stands up like a man and says quote, “I am the one who took part in the dog fighting I got busted” it really is not going to make us animal lovers, parents, rescuers, etc happy. If he is the man some says he is, it is time for him to stop blaming others for what he did, finance the whole works, helped train, fight and kill the poor dogs. He is a monster in human’s clothing. He still has not took the blame or shown the remorse I need to give him a chance. I’m sorry.
Who knows what could have happened at 3 in the morning when you’re fighting dogs?” he said. “It’s almost like being involved in the streets, dealing drugs, in criminal life.”
Just read that one statement, its almost like a criminal life, he honestly doesn’t believe he did any wrong much less feel any remorse.
This is a travesty, he’s just going through the motions. You’re right Horst, there is no remorse about what he did. These statements make him look like he has no control over his life, he’s at the mercy of others and doesn’t have the strength of character to stand up to them. I think having him talk to people, especially kids, will do more harm than good. In no way should he be presented as a role model and the HSUS would do well to distance themselves from him. There should be plenty of other ways to get the anti dog fighting message across than to have this miscreant represent the cause. The only message Vick is sending to kids is that if you’re famous enough you can commit hideous crimes, get a slap on the wrist, put in some insincere community service, then resume you high lifestyle, no harm, no foul. Bad message. Shame on the HSUS for getting involved with him.
The NFL and the Judical System has really messed up on this one. Vick should have been incarcerated for much more then he was. He never should have been allowed to be a professional athelete again. Foot ball players are role models. That young people will look to his guy as a role model is catastrophic. Vick is nothing more than a sadistic fiend who only wishes he had never been caught. What I don’t understand is why the Humane Society is lending any sort of credence to this guy. There have to be more appropriate spokespeople. Everyone loses credibilty in my book over this.
I absolutely agree with “Molly the dog,” poor guy, those people he was around are the ones who got him in trouble,”they didn’t have my best interest at heart”!! What a cop out! Iam ashamed of the HSUS, what are they thinking!
Vick feels absolutely no remorse! It’s like a kid saying that a friend “got them in trouble” because they tattled. Vick “got his self in trouble”, not the police, not the “culture”, not his peers. He did it. He abused hundreds of defenseless dogs and he deserved to be punished, in fact he deserved a heck of a lot more than he got. He has not once admitted that what he did was wrong and cruel. He has been fed lines by the HSUS and his lawyers so that he “looks good”, but I won’t believe that he is truly sorry until I see him trying to help the animals that he hurt and gives an apology that is real.
He said nothing bout the dogs that he killed.
He’s SOOOO only doing this fur the press. It’s obvious. He tries to blame other people fur what HE did, and he can’t take what he did back. I will never furgive him. Ever.
It really is like criminal life and drug dealing. It’s just like abusing children!!!!
They say the Antichrist takes various forms. I respectfully submit Michael Vick is one of them.
I used to support HSUS because I felt they did good work in equine rescue. I think they betrayed their supporters by choosing Vick as a spokesperson. Surely there are many other excellent ways of getting out the message about animal fighting – whatever species, it’s all part of this society’s Culture of Obscene and Vicious Cruelty.
Vick is paying lip service to anti-dog-fighting messages while snickering up his sleeve. He’s making monkeys out of anyone who “believes” him. He doesn’t believe HIMSELF and has never sincerely owned up to his horrific crimes.
As usual, money talks. He’s only doing what he’s doing to gain the small amount of financial ground he lost while in the slammer.
Shame on Big Sports and Big Humane Society for “rescuing” Vick.
I’m surprised lightning didn’t strike when he stepped into that church. He is an unrepentant scumbag.
And now with Mcnabb hurt guess who played QB for part of Sundays game? This slime got away with murder and people are already forgetting about his past deeds. He entered the game to nearly a standing ovation. Philadelphia should be ashamed of itself as a city
I just love it. The unrepentant abuser and murderer of dogs just gt an endorsement deal with Nike.
sorry the O on my keyboard is not working right

Obviously he’s never heard of that novel concept, personal responsibility. Jackass
I hope the HSUS is getting it’s money worth out of “Sick”, because they’ll never see a penny of mine ever, ever again! (and how do I get off of their mailing list??)
HSUS will never see a dime of my money ever again either. They have let a wolf in sheep’s clothing into their midst, and ignore the cries of outrage from true animal lovers. How is it they are unmoved by the cries of the poor dogs Vick and his buddies tortured? Where is their justice? Where is their second chance? Both HSUS and Michael Vick should have trouble sleeping at night. They are so busy spinning their comments, trying to get our money. Don’t bother; the true animal lovers see right through you. There is a special place in hell for people like Vick and the little toadies he surrounds himself with.
I was originally so furious with him, and would have loved to have given him a punishment equal to his crimes!
after calming down, I thought, well maybe he should get a second chance, and work with the HSUS, I can now see that he really isn’t at all sorry, just sorry he got caught! he is just going through the motions. As far as I’m concerned he is a poor excuse for a humon being! I hope he gets his
“real punishment” one day!
And it still makes me sick that HSUS thinks he is a good role model to be talking about this topic! They have received my last dime. And has he ever mentioned being sorry for the dogs he destroyed?
On a positive note: We can all show our support for a company who put doing the right thing ahead of dollar signs. Dicks Sporting Goods, a northeast based sporting goods retailer with over 300 stores has made a business decision declining to carry the Vick jersey in any of it’s stores or online (including it’s stores in Philadelphia). I was very impressed to say the least and I will patronize DIcks whenever I can.
I would ask all of you who live in an area where Dicks does business to do the same and make it a point to tell the store manager that you think the company is doing a terrific thing by doing what they’re doing. These stores are losing some business because of this decision, by talking to the store manager you can show them that they are also gaining customers as well who appreciate a company doing the right thing.
Jakes Mom thanx, it is good to hear that at least one company cares. Myself and my family have all boycotted the NFL frito-lay and Gatorade, the main sponsors of the eagles.
Although having professional athletes speak out against things like dog fighting is wonderful, in this case I think it is unaffective. Vick is being forced to be an advocate against dog fighting, its all over the news, everyone knows it. I honestly can’t see how anyone could truely believe the things he says or take him seriously knowing that. I understand that people can learn from their wrongs, and perhaps he did, but being forced to speak out is NOT going to change what people may think about dog fighting.
He was in God’s church, I’m surprised that the church didn’t burn down.
Ummm God why didn’t you strike him down while you had him!

this man is not sorry. he’s doing this to get his millions back.
it’s a pr scheme. (and doing it in church is a wonderful touch.) i’m glad no one is falling for this.
i also want to notify HSUS to remove off of their mailing list and to stop sending me “gifts.” they have lost my support.
Did anyone see the show ‘Warehouse 13′ a couple of weeks ago? The two main characters were discussing people who were considered dangerous, almost monsters, and the male character said ‘Like Michael Vick?’ This is a SciFi show that has absolutely nothing to do with animals. I was astonished and delighted to hear that a tv writer put this into the dialogue. I already love the show, but I will continue to support it just because of that one statement. Vick says nothing about the harm he did to innocent, helpless animals. Until I hear him say something like that, I will not beliefve that he feels remorse over anything except getting caught.
He still does not care, does not see that he did anything wrong and is not remorseful of anything other than getting caught. He does not and will never see dogs as anything but worthless. Shame on HSUS for allowing him to make his statements like this. They need to at least instruct him to say that what he did was morally wrong, that the treatment of the animals was morally wrong, not just focus on the illegal aspect and what else goes with the culture. It’s illegal because it’s cruel and immoral – THAT’s the message he needs to be sending.
And honestly, speaking in church? Guys who fight dogs aren’t gonna be the type to show up on Sunday morning. He needs to be speaking on street corners in the hood, redneck bars in the country, etc.
I feel the same way about Sarah Palin as I do Michael Vick… will he ever just go away??? He has not changed and he will never change.
I am mortified that it seems what he has done is being forgotten. I agree with everyone there is NO remorse for the dogs – only himself. He is to be a remodel? I believe in forgiveness but only when there is sincerity not conniving. I can’t believe HSUS is that naive maybe they are trying to get the most out of him which is nothing. Now Nike? I will not buy any of their products – it’s sickening.
No to Nike. No to the Philadelphia Eagles. Shame, shame, shame on them for letting this ‘Sick’ Vick back in the NFL. Shame on them for reinstating his endorsement. All I can say is I will earnestly pull against the Eagles every weekend (Go Steelers!), and will never buy another Nike product. May god bless the pit bulls.
“I never thought I’d get caught.” Yup, that says it all!!
I am so furious that the HSUS is sponsoring this. All it is doing is helping him mend his reputation and look like a better guy. He is NOT remorseful, it’s obvious by a live interview he did recently and he never once said he was remorseful, BUT he did have a big pity party about how he “shouldn’t have gone to jail” for dog fighting, sickening. They ought to hire people who rescue and rehabilitate fighting dogs instead; but then again, they wanted the Vick dogs to be euthanized and have a strong stance on euthanizing all dogs involved with fighting rings, even puppies.
He just makes me sick. I don’t think that you can-over years-use your own bare hands to kill and torture dogs and then one day wake up and realize that it was wrong. This guy is not right in the head and deserves nothing in my opinion.
And-frankly the Eagles should be ashamed for hiring him. Plus, they have done some other questionable things like kick out a life-long fan for wearing an anti-Vick shirt at a game: http://snipurl.com/sa51b
Regarding Vick getting a contract with Nike: this DOES NOT surprise me. I had to deal with Nike’s chief Don Blair for about two years in another business. Suffice to say that Nike’s Don Blair is all and ONLY about money. Big money. More and more and more money. If he smells money he would sign Satan himself.
I’m pretty much a peaceful person and shocked myself when I found myself wishing we had “eye for an eye” punishments available in this country for convicted animal abusers and child abusers. I personally would like to see Vick subjected to every type of torture he used on those dogs. Maybe that would generate some remorse in that monster – for monster he truly is. Sociopath is too kind a term to describe him. If he wasn’t playing football and thus getting his daily aggressions out in a financially well compensated/societally approved fashion he would no doubt be torturing and murdering animals again and moving on from that to children, adult women and old people.
No more HSUS contributions from me and I am writing Nike today to tell them why I will never purchase any of their products ever again and am burning the Nike shoes I previously bought.
I THINK IF YOU ARE CRUEL ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT , TO PURPOSELY HURT ANIMALS & TORTURE & KILL THEM, YOU WON’T CHANGE, YOU WILL NEVER BE A ANIMAL LOVER & SHOULD NEVER HAVE THE RIGHT TO OWN ONE. SHAME ONE YOU MICHAEL VICK. YOU DIDN’T GET ENOUGH PRISON TIME.
Vick working with the HSUS is no surprise to me. Vick tortured and killed Pit Bulls. The HSUS wants all these pit bulls anialated. Just more proof that Vick is continuing with his evil ways and has an evil organization backing him.

I will forgive Michael Vick after I hear that he has died slowly and alone in pain, like many of his dogs did. Until then, I have stopped doing business with all of the companies that sponsor him.
I contacted Nike which is a Vick supporter. In their e-mail to me “from Michael at Nike” they admit they provide him product: “We have agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike.”
My “never again will I buy Nike” message that I sent to Nike STANDS. I hope everyone who knows that Nike “supports” Vick will not only refuse to buy Nike products but most importantly tell the company WHY they are refusing to buy Nike products.
Once again an athlette gets away with murder. Is HSUS paying him to speak? I will not buy nike, or anything that sponsors the NFL. When Eagles come to my town I will protest. I have also boycotted all Canadian products! Their government supports China’s dog and cat fur trade. Also clubbing of seals and their cubs.
HSUS, hope your reading this.
