Jon & Kate Dump Their Dogs
Seriously, if I hear or see one more thing about these two I may be ill. They have become the most selfish, self-absorbed, narcissistic people on the planet. To prove this, the German Shepherds they so badly wanted are now being dumped and returned to the breeder.
The reason, Jon claims Kate won’t take care of them when he’s gone. Why doesn’t he just keep them with him and bring them along when he goes to the house? I get it, that would require time and commitment. As for Kate, she wanted the dogs too, where is she? It’s not like they don’t have money to hire a dog walker or someone to help out if that’s the concern.
They can’t blame being a single parent makes it too hard, many single people have dogs. Neither can claim they have eight kids and the dogs put them over the edge because they had the kids before the dogs. They were even having issues when they got the dogs, it wasn’t like this mess happened overnight.
Sorry about the rant, but I am so tired of dogs being thought of as dispensable, throwaway items when it is no longer convenient to take care of them. Everyday I sort through articles for the blog and the things that I see and read are sickening.
While they didn’t abuse the dogs, and are giving them back to the breeder, it’s people who think like this that are the underlying cause for so many homeless animals. Take the easy way out, get rid of the dogs because you don’t want to deal with them, and then blame each other.

I am so sick of hearing about these stupid people. It doesn’t surprise me. Just feel sorry for the poor dogs.
These people are why you should spay and neuter…and I aint’ referring to their dogs…..
I like watching the kids and have been watching it before all the controversy. But, they went about getting the dogs the wrong way… Jon wanted outside working type dogs, she wanted a small fluffy dog. She finally let Jon have his way for once (probably because of the problems emerging). I didn’t care for the look of the breeder’s operation, but I have always adopted dogs, so I can’t speak on that other than saying I wasn’t comfortable with it. But, the breeder let them take the dogs home the same day they first saw them – they had nothing ready for them yet at home. As a breeder, I think he was looking for the added business their purchase would give him and not in educating first time dog owners (they had cats only previously) and in making sure HIS dogs would have a good forever home. Yes, Jon and Kate are in the wrong – a pet, like a child, is a forever commitment. But, a breeder can’t be surprised to have returns when they don’t set out to do the best thing by their dogs…
(PS: They didn’t DUMP the dogs, if they returned them to the breeder. I know it’s easy to pile on to these two, but there is a difference….)
A few months ago I did not know who Jon and Kate were! Seriously I never heard of them until all this mess started. I wish I would stop hearing about them. These two people became celebrities by having a multiple birth and they are not equipped to deal with the fame. I hope they manage to take good care of those children.
I am very sad for the dogs, the kids, and their family. I imagine that the kids are heartbroken. As a child, when you create a bond with a dog and then it is taken away, that leaves a big hole in your heart!! I am sure the dogs may have not received all the care they could have during the last few months of trauma. Perhaps this is best for the dog’s stability and growth. I am not insinuating that they were not cared for, but that they have gone through the difficulties of the separation too! I am sure they will make great pets for another family, and a pretty penny for the breeder at the resale.
I second your rant, Lisa.
I am livid when people like Jon and Kate view animals as disposable, failing to consider the rich emotional lives of the animals they’re giving back. I hope the dogs find a loving forever home away from the circus.
And what kind of lesson does that teach their litter of kids?
Jon and Kate: evil evil evil. And agadore’s comment was spot-on.
I hate to say it but this doesn’t surprise me. That doesn’t mean I am not upset about it though. I hope the dogs find permanent homes where they will be loved and treasured like they deserve to be.
WOW! I bet next time they throw away their kids too! Oh, wait they’re not dogs so maybe they’ll keep them.-hypocrites!
The dogs are well rid of these people. Hopefully they will find a REAL home with REAL people who REALLY want them and will REALLY care for and love them.
Jon and Kate should be in prison, along with the
Octo-Mom. It should be a crime to have that many children, unless they are adopted. There are too many people in the world already, as there are too many unwanted pets. And then to exploit them and their sordid life on national television, that is beyond the limit. Lisa, you were to way too easy on these people in you first sentence. Agadore, you’re right on the mark. If you want to adopt a child you have to be investigated and deemed fit and solvent enough to have one. But any two (what Lisa said to which I’ll add)
insane, childish, idiotic morons can get together and have children of their own.
Let’s hope this is the last we hear about these (refer to the above description) people.
Btw, even tough they returned the dogs to the breeder, they still DUMPED the dogs.
Way to go. It makes me sick too everytime I read a story like this. And those who had to move from one place to another, with fur kids and rents a place where they can’t have them. Or those who relocate from city or state to city or state and can’t take the fur family member, “like dogs do not ride in a car, fly on a plane and so. Come on people, when you decide to become a pet parent, single or married, divorce or what ever, make plans for you fur kids as well as your human kids. Don’t just dump them, or drop them somewhere or move off and leave them. When you become a pet parent, that pet becomes a family member and should be considered and planned for. You don’t dump your human kids or give them back to the hospital. Come people, educate yourself, the whole family and let adopting a pet, buying a pet etc. Make sue that a lifetime commitment. ‘Til death do us part, yours or their’s. Stop becoming pet parents and then decide, or I do want this kid. I hope the GS find new loving parents they so deserve. And let’s forget jJon and Kate. Don’t keep waering it out like Octo Mom or some of the other people that keeping coming back and back like a bad penny. Get a life. I have been a single pet parent for a number of fur kids and I’d never give any of them up ’til death. It’s not just your life and your needs.
Our Media don’t when to let a story die. But they spend little to time on homeless animals. You’d be surprising how entertaining animals are and the people who love them and makes it their life saving them, loving them and caring for them.
It was kind of obvious that this was going to happen. Don’t you agree?
i am just like the rest of you all.i am so sick of hearing about jon&Kate.People should think before adopting a pet.hey It’s not the dogs fault there marriage didnt work.my gosh i was divorced for yrs and had a child but still took care of both dog’s.
It was clear that Kate did not want more responsibility and Jon was clueless and lazy when it came to caring for the dogs. The female swallowed one of the kid’s toys and had surgery when she was only a few months old. Despite being told by the vet to keep her quiet, Jon immediately put her outside with the male who was playing very rough. While sad for the children, this is absolutely the best thing for the dogs. The breeder should not have sold the dogs to them in the first place. For the record, they did not intend to have sextuplets. It was a fertility failure.
Like anybody is surprised this happened? I thought it was a mistake that they got the dogs in the first place. Adding two puppies to a house that has to be a crazy place must have only added to the frenzy. I was immediately worried that the dogs would end up returned long ago, and non-adoptable because of the madness at a house full of preschoolers. Right this minute I just have one toddler and am not going to get a puppy, (our dog is an adult.) They have a nanny, and obviously from the way the dogs behave when seen on the show, the dogs have been to training. But just like most of the rest of America, hit a few bumps in the road and abandon the pets. They could hang, hire a dog nanny for a while, and keep the dogs. Long ago when I was a single parent AND moved all the way across country, trust me, my beloved dog never left my side.
Agadore, you hit the nail on the head!! you are so right!
I feel sad for the children…having to give up their pets, when everything else around them is falling apart. But on the other hand, I am happy for the dogs to be out of that “circus”. Maybe now they will find homes where they will truly be loved and well taken care of…they deserve that!
For some reason this story does not suprise me.For parents who exploited their children for financial gain this is just another day for them!! Are they going to put breaking the childrens heart on TV also when the dogs are taken away?
As for me when I was a child I always found having a dog/cat nearby comforting to me even when I lost my mom. So losing the dogs will be devasting to one or more of the kids, because their lives are aready messed up thanks to Jon and Kate.
Hopefully the dogs will find happiness with the breeder or perhaps another breeder, the children sadly will need therapy in the years to come.
Mollydog you are so WRONG. Being DUMPED or ABANDONED is something very specific and criminal. If the breeder is legitimate, then it would have been in the contract that should the animals ever need be, they could be RETURNED to him, and that is what they did. Again, if the breeder cares for his dogs, those dogs will never physically suffer or want for care, or say, be left to fend for themselves on city streets in the dead of winter with 6 inches of snow on the ground for who knows how long like my Lucie was before the shelter found her. That’s right, I’ve adopted a dog who was actually DUMPED. She battled chronic eye, ear, and urinary tract infections and after 4 years, this last 6 months have been her most problem free.
You CANNOT compare what Jon and Kate did with these dogs to what someone did to Lucie and other dogs who are actually DUMPED or ABANDONED.
There are a lot of uneducated people who fall in love with puppy dog eyes. There are safeguards in many facilities – shelters and rescues – to protect animals from getting put into a potentially risky situation and weed out those in the moment. (Hey, remember that drug commercial that changed from “I feel so great today I think I’ll adopt a puppy” to later airings of “I can finally adopt the puppy I always planned for”? That flippant attitude is dangerous, yet prevalent our society.) When I put in an application for Lucie – at an unfancy shelter – I had to list any pets I had in the last 10 years and why I didn’t have them anymore. I was initially turned down to adopt her because I didn’t have a dog in the last 10 years (it was 12…)
If this breeder was as responsible, the dogs would have never been sold to Jon and Kate. The two had two cats and gave them to family when the twins were born. If the breeder asked that simple question I was asked, he would have known that the dogs were at risk of being returned if a difficult or challenging situation arose in the household.
I share everyone’s heart-felt opinion that when you adopt a pet, it’s for life, you make it work. But for those who don’t share our opinion, there is still a proper way to surrender an animal and a criminal way.
The dogs are better off, now they can go to someone sane who will really want them. I wouldn’t want to live with Kate!
You know what, sadly, I was thinking when this was going to happen.
I was more ill when I heard there was a couple exposing their eight children to ridicule by making their lives public on national TV. Selfishness started then, right? It’s hard enough being yourself as a kid, and they couldn’t even be themselves at home because TV cameras were in their face. The dogs are lucky to get out of that situation and have a chance to go in a nice home. The poor kids are stuck with two self centered people raising them.
Honestly, the dogs are better off! On the last episode I saw John kick at one of the poor dogs, so it’s not like Kate is the only bad guy. Kudos to the breeder for taking them back, though I don’t think they should have let them buy them in the first place. I used to LOVE to watch the show, but now that this mess has been going on, they make me sick. Poor Kids.
I am so upset that they just throw the dog’s away. But maybe it will be best for the dog’s. Thay can get a person that really loves them for their selves not because someone is trying to impress people. I am sick and tired of hearing about Jon and Kate.
I agree about the dogs being better off going to homes that will love them and take care of them. I hope the breeder doesn’t try to exploit the poor dogs just because they belonged to these people. I’ve never seen the program and only heard about it from a radio station I listen too but they sound pretty pathetic. Really, in “real” life dogs and cats are dumped every day for the same reasons, we don’t have time, the kids have lost interest, they chew on things, they don’t get any attention, it doesn’t take a whole lot for some people to give up their pets.
Doesn’t surprise me ONE bit. I was actually waiting for it. They never seem to show the dogs any attention (on the show).
I’m sure they will get new loving homes for the crazed jon and kate fans.. so hopefully they will be okay!
I’m in Australia and have absolutely no idea who these two jerks are, but I totally agree with the poster who said it’s them who should be neutered. We certainly don’t need self-involved jerks like this proliferating. Poor dogs. They must be so confused.
First, I couldn’t see why they didn’t attempt to adopt a shelter dog. Secondly, it seems that they didn’t “research” this like Kate supposedly has done in the past. Also, the owner of the kennel should have looked into their experience with animals .
The dogs are better off!
Jon and Kate, so what? Lots of people have big families. Americans need to stop buying into all this reality show crap and worry about what’s going on in their own lives. Seriously, I have enough of my own problems. And now we’re going to be plagued with the Octo-Moron in a TV series as well. Enough already.
But anyway, my main concern here is these two beautiful dogs. What’s going to happen to them? Jon and Kate obviously have the “easy come, easy go” attitude. The whole situation just screams of irresponsibility and stupidity all the way around. And what are they teaching their kids? When you can’t deal with something just get rid of it. These kids will grow up to be irresponsible and stupid just like their parents. If I could, I would take those two dogs right now. Right now.
For the record, my dogs Toby and Zoey are a GSD/probably Akita and a purebred GSD. I feel strongly for this breed. I would never give up my dogs. Never. I would sleep in my car with them if I had to. You think I’m kidding? Believe me, I’m not.
So let me just throw this out there. Maybe I should have a reality show, about how I would drive all night to save unwanted GSD’s that ignorant celebrities don’t want anymore. I would bring them back to my rescue organization and care for them until I was sure I was placing them with the right family for the right reasons. Certainly the world would be a better place for this, and the way things are going there can never be too many dog rescue organizations. Come on, isn’t there someone out there with deep pockets to get me going on this? I’ll take those two dogs right now. Then I’ll quit my day job and never look back.
I have watched this show since Its 2 or 3rd season. While I do think fame destroyed this family and I do think most of the time Kate is a total witch to Jon.
Good breeders always take back the dogs for any reason if the Pupparents cannot care for them/want them for any reason. So at least they didnt get dumped at the pound. So while I wouldnt have done it, Jon and Kate made the right choice by returning to the breeder.
thank goodness the dogs are going back to the breeder….
btw…our local morning news had this to say about Kate “her guest spot on THE VIEW has lead to talks with producers” “Kate may have her own talk show in the very near future”……
I saw this coming the day they got those dogs! I knew they had no idea what they were doing. With that said I don’t think they could do anything that would surprise me at this point. grrrrrr…..
That’s really nice to do to kids….here kiddies have some puppies oops no wait mommy needs time to go get another ridiculous hair cut so we have to give them back. Those kids are old enough to learn how to help out with the dogs anyway, what’s the matter Dumb and Dumber, don’t want your kids to know what responsibility is? If they knew they might realize what obnoxious parents they have?
At least maybe the dogs will have a good life now.
I so agree with you on this. You’d think that people in their position would be more responsible and make a better example to their kids and all the people around the world watching them. Fame should not be only about what you get, but also about what you give back to society. Losers! It makes me sad and angry at the same time. I just hope the dogs will be adopted by some loving people and live a happy life far away from the Gosselins.
the children will believe they too are disposable and suffer psychologically from this cavalier decision.
when i was small i believed our little poodle, bubu, and our cat, sunday were my brother and sister.
sunday was four years older than i and lived to be 21.
all our pets were family members.
jon and kate are very shallow, trashy people.
i feel sorry for their kids.
I agree with Agadore !
Hmmm, wonder when John and Kate will be handing the over the kids?
My hope is that these dogs emerge from what was nothing less than a highly chaotic and acrimonious home driven by ratings and profit.
Keeping our paws crossed for the pups.
I cant understand the attraction of these people. I knew the day they got these dogs that this would not be a forevevr home. I cant stand either one of them they both make me sick
Mollydog, I agree with you a 100%. “At least” they were returned to the breeder and not dumped out on the street, or kept chained… As for the breeder, I have no respect for a breeder who sells her dogs to someone who wants to take them home they minute they met them, has nothing prepared for them, and I would have questioned 2 adults who’d want to take 2 big dogs in a flash, to take care of FOR LIFE when they have 8 small children. I bet he/she did it to gain fame, as they would go to a famous household.
I’m sick of reading about these two also…. We need real stories, real accomplishments!! It’s ridiculous how we go gaga over regular people (with 8 kids ok…) and make them celebrities overnight…..
This is terrible! I don’t have children at this point, but my dogs are part of the family. I know that sometimes there are circumstances, where even after training, a dog can be a danger to small children etc and people have to part ways with their beloved pets. Those dogs are well-behaved, and if anything, it’s the kids that are a danger to the dogs. I would never give up my dogs without a lot of time and effort, and only if it were a dangerous situation that could not be fixed in the home. This clearly is not the case with these people – they didn’t think through getting animals in the first place and are now not willing to put up the commitment. The dogs will probably end up in better homes, where they are loved and cared for..but come on, where’s the effort?
I never watched the show or ever wanted to. The news gave me all the info I need about this couple. Shame on them for being so selfish. I hope these dogs gets the home they deserve because obviously these two have no clue.
I agree with the posters saying the dogs are better off elsewhere.
These are the people who forced an ailing and miserable baby to lie on a laundry room floor when he was sick so he would not make a mess in his bedroom or the rest of the house.
If that is the empathy level they have for their children, one can only imagine the treatment those poor dogs could expect.
It seems to me the dogs are luckier than those poor kids…at least the dogs are getting a second chance to find a decent home.
The first “blame” goes to parents for even considering adopting two puppies into a home filled with 8 young children, 6 who are of preschool age.
The second “blame” goes to the breeder of the two puppies. He should receive a real kick in the butt for being an unethical breeder. A good breeder first interviews the potential owners to understand how they live and their home environment. He should have known that such a family is totally inappropriate for two young puppies. I NEVER two littermate puppies in the same home unless the people are very experienced with the type of breed. The fact that the breeder DID nothing to prepare Jon and Kate for life with a new puppy is awful…he said nothing about crate training, environmental safety for two young puppies, etc.
The information regarding this event indicates that Jon wanted a large dog and he did not take the responsibility to train them or etc. This may not be true and he may have tried.
But, the third “blame” goes to Jon for not caring enough about the two dogs to stay the course. It appears that Kate at first did not want the dogs; but, soon as she saw puppies, she went gaw-gaw and ended up with two! Now, the fourth “blame” goes to Kate.
Whether he left his wife, kids or the dogs is a matter of real selfishness. He and his wife created the situation and he should not have chosen his own selfish path.
So he was only in his 20’s when he got married. Kate did not get pregnant by herself. Now he is a father and in a tough situation with 8 kids. He chose to go out and act like a stupid ass, fool around with the “chickies”. Kate may have been acting like a nagging pain in the ass (as he claims); but, people should seek counceling and work things out. A boot in both of their butts and an even bigger one to TLC, the “learning?” channel.
Why are these two idiots still on TV? I don’t believe Jon talking up with a girlfriend and Kate dating a married man are suitable examples to their kids. Now they have no time for their pets, this TV show needs to be cancelled and stop giving these two people publicity as if they are something special. Enough of immorality and unfaithfulness already on TV
Not only are the kids dealing with the divorce and the huge stress that causes, now they have to face this kind of loss? Selfish, stupid parents.
To Lucie Goosie’s Girl,
I didn’t mean dumped in the literal sense. Even though they returned the dogs to the breeder they “dumped” them in that they were treating the dogs like objects to be gotten rid of. I guess I wasn’t too clear about what I meant.
This is the only admirable thing these people did, returning the dogs to the breeder instead of actually dumping them them.
Just for the record Molly was found as a stray. The woman who found her said she was scared and confused like she didn’t know where she was. I can only think that she may have been dumped and who knows how long she was out there all alone. So yes I do know what literally being dumped means. It is a despicable and criminal act.
I totally agree with you on all counts. To me and all the rest of us responsible people adopting a dog is the same as adopting a child, it’s for life. Like children dogs aren’t objects to just get rid of if they don’t work out.
I can’t even read the entire post, these two people make me so sick. I feel bad for their dogs and their kids. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to own pets let alone have children. UGH!
Does anyone know who the breeder was? I have a GSD and would love to add another one if no one wants them.
The situation with the dogs is sad, and I agree with several others who commented on the affect this could have on the children. I’m more upset, however, at the ridiculous choices these two AND TLC have made! Jon, Kate, and the network have had a unique opportunity to serve as examples in our society; unfortunately, their examples have been atrocious!
Nobody is perfect. However, I would have expected a couple in their position to go the extra mile and use their mistakes as opportunities to set good examples for how to go about “fixing” those mistakes. Instead, they simply reinforce stupid decision-making. And shame on TLC for allowing them to continue doing it on national television! How can that network merely stand by and keep filming and broadcasting? The network itself may as well formally announce its support for broken families and abused animals.
With Jon and Kate serving as examples, who needs Satan around anymore? I think I get a little over-sensitive when it comes to this issue in particular. I’m struggling daily right now to keep my own commitment to my two collies since my husband walked out and left me entirely responsible for them (after I became disabled during our 22-year marriage). I’m fed up with a media that continues supplying its culture with more and more horrendous examples of human behavior.
At what point did it become morally and ethically okay for us to file for divorce when things get a little difficult? When did surrendering our domesticated animals become acceptable simply because they ended up costing more money or requiring more work than we’d anticipated? Why isn’t TLC providing us with a family that exemplifies surviving marriage difficulties instead of throwing in the towel or a couple who, despite divorce, is working on arrangements to continue caring for their animals instead of giving them up?
Jon, Kate, and TLC had a great opportunity to demonstrate love, commitment, tolerance, and the importance of working together for a greater good. Instead they’ve only made it MORE likely that what’s happened to my family will happen to others and that it’s okay in such instances to give up the family pets if caring for them becomes inconvenient. Unbelievable!
I’m a professional dog trainer and everyday I see dogs given up because they are “ill mannered”. What??? Do people ever consider that dogs need training just like children and every other social living creature? This article is simply another example of why I often think dogs may rank higher up on the evolutionary ladder then humans.
Why do so people think it’s so wonderful that the dogs are going back to the breeder? I saw the episode where they “adopted” the dogs and the Breeders operation was not impressive. Typical old school outdoor kennels with tiny chain link runs. Pretty crummy for dogs that previously lived outside.
And consider this if the Breeder was so darn happy about giving these dogs to inexperienced, unprepared, and overwhelmed owners, what will happen to them now? I gather they were spayed and neutered(I pray) so he can’t use them for his business of selling dogs. Do you really think he let them just hang around? He’ll probably sell them to the first folks who come down the pike and offer him enough for the Jon and Kate dogs. My first choice would be a reputable GSD rescue that would not reveal the former owners of these dogs but would find the best possible owners. I feel sorry for the dogs and for the kids but not for these waste of space so called humans that are acting like fools.
oops no edit feature here I guess.
“Pretty crummy for dogs that previously lived *outside*.” should be inside. Sorry
The truly sad part about all of this is that they’ve done exactly what so many other people do in this day and age: Get a dog, keep it for a while, give the dog up. I see this every day at our shelter – Jon and Kate aren’t unique in this particular instance. People don’t understand that an animal is a lifetime committment. If you can’t commit to a spouse or your children for life, you’re certainly not going to commit to an animal that long either.
Ugh! I HATE these people!
I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard Kate complaining about how the puppies were running around and nipping the kids! DUH! That’s what puppies do! I thought that even the Gosselins were smart enough to know that.
Here’s a video for all the details, but be prepared to throw stuff at your computer screen:
yeah
I have no words.
I do not like these people. Who would dump a dog anyway. These people are selfish and only care about them selves.
I now have a German Shepherd that came from an abusive home.It has taken over a year to help this dog get over separation anxiety, yet she has come a long way and is a wonderful dog.German Shepherds are the best family dogs and for someone to use them as props for a few months and them toss them back irritates me.

John and Kate should be placed in a room with a bunch of rabid dogs… now that would be great reality TV.
What’s next? Will they “return” their children when they tire of taking care of them? I have two canine babies that are as much a part of our family as any of the humans. It would be a cold day in hell before we would let them go. As I speak right now, both of them are lying beside me on the couch and they bring me such joy and peace to be able to reach out and pet them.
I wondered how long it would take before they got tired of the dogs. I have 2 dogs of my own and would never consider ever returning or abandoning them. I would live on the streets first before I would give them up. I was completely confused when Jon & Kate decided to get dogs as they have a family of 8 small children did they really think they needed to add to the chaos with 2 big dogs? This just proves they are sad examples and need to be taken off tv. I can’t stand watching that show anymore.
Dogs have feelings also, you can see it in their eyes. I am sure the dogs are missing the kids and wondering what they did wrong to deserve this. Thank God the breeder would take them back instead of having Jon & Kate just dump them. I didn’t understand why they bought dogs when there are millions of dogs in the shelters that would love to have a home. The shelter is where both of my dogs came from and they are the best pets I have ever had. I didn’t think much of either Jon or Kate before now I think even less of them.
I know this is not politically correct but their kids are like hell spawn! They are ugly, mean and bratty – I don’t really care what happens to them. They may end up on drugs or worse….John and Kate deserve that for returning these helpless puppies. People who do things like this make me sick. What comes around goes around.
Thank god the dogs at least got out of that dysfunctional situation, they really deserve better. The rest of the entire family – John, Kate and even the PLUS 8 deserve what they get!
