Donate To Charity, Win A Dog Portrait
We’re doing something a little different on the blog today. I was approached by a wonderful artist, Terry Stanley, to have a contest that would benefit dog charities. In return she would offer up two custom portraits, a large and small, for the lucky winners.
First, here’s a little info about Terry….
Terry’s Bio:
I am one of the millions of “self-taught” artists in the world today, but am very blessed that my art has brought me notice and opportunity I could never have imagined. I’ve attained Signature Status in the Pastel Society of America . I’m a member of and Wisconsin Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America . I teach workshops in Wisconsin and beyond and am so very fortunate to have met and become friends with some truly wonderful artists from throughout the country. I often wonder how all this happened!
Not only is Terry very talented and rather well-known she is big time into helping out dog charities. Each month she actively supports a non-profit organization that helps dogs – service dogs… rescue dogs… the humane society… – by designing products featuring the organization’s mission. The royalties from these products are automatically donated to the non-profit, so you can pick up some fun gifts and know you are helping a dog at the same time. How can you not love that?
One other great thing, Terry offers custom dog portraits starting at $35 for a 5×7, which makes it affordable for most. The picture on top is of our boy Bo, it was around x-mas which is why he had the green ribbon around his neck. You can see from the photo on the left, which the painting was done from, that Terry did a terrific job capturing Bo’s personality on canvas.
Check out Terry’s Dog Days Of Painting blog and read some of the stories about the dogs she’s painted. Her portraits make a great gift for yourself or the dog lover in your life.
As for the contest, we are offering up a 11×14 painting ($125 value) of a single dog (or that much credit if you want to “upgrade” to more than one dog in the painting) for 1st place and a 2nd place/runner-up 5×7 ($35 value).
To enter, and we’re going on the honor system, all you need to do is donate to your favorite dog charity-rescue, humane society, sanctuary- doesn’t matter it just needs to be dog related. Don’t worry about the amount, that’s not what it’s about, every dollar helps. If you don’t have any extra money to donate that’s alright too, you can still enter by donating a bag a food or maybe some towels or something else on an animal rescues wish list. If you can’t do that, again it’s alright, you can still enter by donating a few hours of your time.
I have put up plenty of options so there is no excuse for not being able to enter this contest, you’ll be benefiting a great cause and at the same time getting a chance to win a custom portrait of your dog. I think it’s a pretty fair trade-off. If you donated or worked on a fundraiser in the last month, or already volunteer your time or work in dog rescue that counts, just leave the info in the comment section.
The contest runs today through Tuesday, August 4th when I will randomly choose the winners. To enter leave a comment in the comment section sharing what charity you chose to help and why. You don’t need to put a dollar amount you can just say donated funds, no amount is too small in these desperate times.
Good luck!

Beautiful artwork! It’s great to see this done for a good cause. I will definitely have to check out her website.
We are going to donate a couple bags of food to our vets office at Banfield the Pet Hospital. They have a program that gives the food to families in need that I believe get sent to The Meals on Wheels. We will be donating tomorrow!
We just donated to our local SPCA. They are having an event called Wining for Adoption. It’s a wine-tasting event to raise money for digital picture frames that will be put up in local businesses to showcase the dogs in the shelter. We couldn’t attend the event, but we wrote a check out to the organizers. I think the digital frame idea is fantastic and we hope lots of puppies get adopted because of it!
I am an active volunteer at the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. Last week I volunteered at a remote dog adoption event at a local senior citizen assisted living community.
I just donated to Saving Georgia Dogs, a great organization that pulls dogs from Georgia shelters especially the one’s that are gassing shelters! Lovely pictures!
We have already signed up for one of Terry’s paintings, but we are volunteering 4 hours of time to our local Humane Society for Bark in the Park on 8/8!!
I was fostering a beautiful young German Shorthair little girl until last Thursday when we were able to find her a forever home.
The fostering was for the Bingham County Humane Society.
Oooohhhh….Terry Stanley! A lot of Dogster pups have already been featured on Terry’s Dog Days of Painting blog, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more in the months to come! I can attest that her work is pawsome…and looks even better in person than it does online! Me and my Gang work hard every year to raise money for our local SPCA. Mama makes and sells blankets and quilts, and donates the money to the SPCA. This year, with the help of our Dogster pals, we were able to donate over $3,000 to the shelter! We already have individual paintings by Terry of everyone in the Gang…but mama would LOVE to be able to get a group painting, too! That’s how much we love Terry’s work!
I donated money as well as blankets, towels, food and toys to the local animal shelter.
I love this beautiful work, and I would love to have one of your gorgeous paintings! I donate to the Aspca because I hope that all of the beautiful animals they feature can be heled if I contibute in some way. I also adopted from them as well, as our local shelter. I hope that people will become much more aware of the importance of animals in our society.
We donate each month. This month we sent a snuggle sack to The Mid Atlantic Dachshund group for the dachshund phest.
And for those who like to donate we are a part of a dogster group called Doggie Do Gooders. Each member gets to pick a charity they want to donate to, then we each get to vote. Then one charity is picked for each month and we all donate what we can!! Every little bit counts!! ;0)
We donated Ella’s winnings from the “Cutest Pet Contest” to the Stokes County Humane Society in memory of Daisy – our rainbow bridge angel baby!
For the past three years, I have worked with Luv-A-Bull pit bull rescue, a non-profit organization that rescues pit bulls and other breeds from shelters and families in distress. We are a foster family and also help to place dogs into permanent homes, which involves “advertising” the dogs, taking in and reviewing applications, and doing home studies to ensure good placement. It is a lot of work that the woman who runs the rescue doesn’t have time for because she is caring for so many dogs! By taking these extra steps, we help to make sure the dogs find their “forever” homes and are not discarded when they aren’t “cute” anymore. Financially, we support the rescue whenever we can both with cash and food donations.
Every year, my mommy gets a packet from the local Humane Society and she sells tickets to people around town or in her neighborhood(and she brings one of her dogs-this year maybe me) the packet usually comes in November,so we will SO do that this year. We donate money to the shelter sometimes too. I am going to go buy a sack of dog food today and drop it off.
I donated funds to the long beach animal shelter! This is a monthly occurrence but I donated a little extra this time for this contest! What a great prize to win!
Donated to Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. This contribution is towards a charity walk in September.

Harley D is a therapy dog and we volunteer at 1 assisted living and visit hospice patients at another facility. We donate regularly to our no kill shelter. Mom picks up goodies during the weekends and she takes them to the shelter, she is also a member there and tells everyone she knows how they can help. We also are involved with the beginning of a new foundation for therapy animals.
Be it food, toys, towels, etc it all goes to the shelter.
One of our Shop-rite’s has set up bags for donated food to Common Sense, a local no-kill shelter (run by a vet), so altho I mostly donate dog food,to them, last time I donated cans of cat food. Also I am visiting friends who regularly spay neighborhood cats, so I am bringing canned/dry food and treats for the cats.
Keep up the great work teaching people about responsible animal companionship.
We are constant Great Breed fosters to our local Humane Society Shelter as they do not have the facilities to keep them long term. At the moment we are fostering a 2 1/2 year old Great Dane from a recent area puppy mill bust.
Thanks for your effort to make it a better world!
What a great idea! I donated to Noah’s Arks -a great outfit that helps the most desperate of dogs and cats. Check them out if you get the chance, they do really wonderful work.

Well, my mom is very big into rescue and gives a lot of time to helping the homeless dogs. She works right next door to Animal Control so her and a friend go over during lunch and work with the harder to place dogs, teaches them to sit, and be comfortable with people, these are the ones that may not get out of the shelter, she places them on Petfinder.com, CL, contacts breed specific rescues or the local rescues and does whatever it takes to try and get the dogs out as our County shelter is a kill shelter although it has a very low kill rate.
She volunteers with a group called Res-Que. This group picks up the dog food from Petsmart/Mars/Purina that is going to be thrown out and they distribute it to the local rescues and shelters. They have a huge building on a ranch in Reno where the food is stored with some friendly kitties to keep the mice out and make sure it gets out to the ones that need it. Some of the food even ends up in California.
She volunteers at the SPCA and helps do their annual event every year called An Affur to Remember.
Her biggest love and the most time is spent in Bulldog rescue. Her and another lady, Patti run the local Bulldog Rescue (www.snvbr.org) and right now we have two foster dogs in our home waiting to find a home of their own, Munch and Aria. This Saturday they are going to have a big rummage sale to help with the vet bills that occur because not all dogs coming into rescue are healthy and many need spaying/neutering and shots. I’m my mom and dads only failure at fostering, they ended up keeping me cause I had some issues that needed special attention and they were afraid I would not make it in another home.
All of the people here are special and without people like this us homeless dogs would not have a chance. A big Kudo’s to everyone posted here.
We donate on a monthly basis to ASPCA and we donate yearly to 3 other facilities.
We donated funds to Best Friends Animal society and brought a big bag of old towels and blankets to one of the local rescue groups here in Las Vegas.
Hello my mom is the best. On her birthday and my dad’s birthday we go down to the SPCA and bring them lots of toys and food for the dogs and cats there. I am therapy dog and my mom and I visits about 14 time a month to hospitals and other places who welcome us. She works full time, so I do not get to go as much as I would like.
My local shelter, Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, is having an adoption drive this month. Although mama and daddy are not ready to adopt because of my recent journey to the Rainbow Bridge they are making a contribution in my memory and will also donate some of toys, treats and food that I didn’t use.
The license plate on my car is a special issue, with the annual extra cost being donated to animal shelters across the state…I also have the SPCA checks.
I donated to two rescues this past month. The first is Stop the Suffering that rescues dogs in rural Ohio and the other is Northwest Ohio Siberian Rescue. Both these rescues were instrumental in the rescue and placement of my current dog, Merit. She was one hour from being put to sleep when the warden, asked the Toledo based rescue to take the dog. She acted on instinct and brought her back to her already packed rescue. A plea went out to other rescues to take her and no one responded but Stop the Suffering in Columbus. There I rescued my dog who is now a therapy dog visiting two local hospices. She would not be here had it not been for tthese rescues generousity and dedication. These two rescues opened my eyes to the plight of dogs and cats. I will continue to support them as well as my local shelter.
My obedience class also raises money several local shelters by participating in special events.
I also have organized a collection drive with my schools kindergarten group. The entire school pitches in and donates items requested at Animal Friends.
Kaine donated lots of his toys to the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA. He also donated dog bowls, slicker brushes, a food container and canned dog food. I am currently helping to clicker train the dogs with behavior problems at AAWL & SPCA to become better canidates for adoption. I am also teaching them basic manners and a cute trick:)! These amazing dogs have taught me so much already.
Woofs n’ Wags,
Ashley & Kaine
Jesse is donating a year and half supply of his Mighty Dog food to Shelter dogs (in the form of 136, variety-twelve packs). He also is donating some toys, treats, and beds. He has donated $10,000 to the AZ Jack Russell Rescue, Inc. for winning the Bissell Pet Games video contest; which has helped build more homes for the JRTs, to stay at while they wait for their forever homes. I am volunteering my time, at the AZ Animal Welfare League to help teach the dogs basic manners, so that they are more adoptable. The dogs are so happy to have attention, and the mental stimulation helps them relax while they wait for their future families to adopt them. The dogs are very grateful, and it makes me feel like I have helped them become better canine citizens when I see them offering behaviors.
I am at the shelter here often. I walk the dogs, and help out around the kennels. I also bring towels and blankets, and home made biscuits when I can. We are very low on funds, so my time is what I give. It is priceless to see how happy some of the dogs are to just get out for a walk!
