Baths Are Dangerous
Horst Hoefinger

Ever since Bo was a pup he’s tried to tell us baths were bad, and he would do anything to try and stop us from giving him one. Normally he got a bath after an outside romp which left him covered in goo,  nothing was going to persuade us from giving him a good cleaning. However, I just read the following article and realized maybe Bo was right, baths are dangerous.

LONDON – A British pup had a narrow flush with disaster after his 4-year-old master decided to give him a bath in the toilet. Daniel Blair was quoted as telling Britain’s Daily Mirror tabloid that he tried to clean the muddy 1-week-old cocker spaniel because he was muddy, and he flushed him down the drain.

His mother Alison was quoted as saying she thought the dog was dead, but a drainage firm was able to locate the beleaguered animal in a pipe 20 yards away from the house using specialist camera gear.

Here’s video of the trapped puppy taken by Dyno-Rod’s, the drainage firm who saved him.

WOW, I hope the puppy is OK, you’d think he’d have a concussion or something.

I also hope he’s OK without his momma! One week old, no hearing or vision yet. Poor little guy!

  2. Jayijay

That is scary, but, what sort of weirdo would bathe a puppy (or anything) in a toilet?? :\

  3. Jayijay

My bad, I didn’t see that it was done by a 4- yr old (I skim things when I read :| ) but still…..
    lol

I saw this news story. I’m just wondering, if the pup is only 1 week old, where’s the mother and the rest of the litter? I’m surprised that they didn’t say anything or show this in the news story.

OMD….I was wonderin the same thing, Hearth. Where’s momma dawg an the rest of the litter? Puppy does look really young in the video. Poor little thing…just glad he’s ok.

Exactly why families with small children should not get small puppies. They’re too fragile and kids are too rough. Wait until the child is old enough to know how to care for a puppy or adopt a full grown medium to large size dog in need of a good home.

Now that pup really does need a bath! ick!

  7. alicia

OMG! I heard about this on the news while driving to work. Poor puppy!

  8. BETH

Okay what brain dead parents let there 4 yr. old put the puppy in a toilet (not a sink or tub).Or were they not watching their child? Shame on them on both accounts!!!They shouldn’t be allowed to have a dog.

  9. Daisy

Regardless of any of this… they don’t seem like resonable pet owners. With a one week old puppy wearing a collar!! And, letting a 4 year old play with the poor thing… obviously leads to bad things!

  10. GEORGE

I’m just glad the puppy is safe from this ordeal. I hope he can find a better home.
    Poor baby…

  11. Ashley

Wow… it is a miracle that the puppy not only lived to tell the tale but appears just fine!

I agree with the comment about families with small children getting puppies! So many puppies learn so many terrible habits because they grow up at the viscous hands of toddlers/preschoolers. Toddlers/preschoolers just cannot be taught the correct way to hold and care for puppies, and the parents of young children cannot possibly keep an eye on everyone (pup and humans) at all times.

I saw this story on the news yesterday morning and it completely set me off.

First off the news agency that was covering the story in our area thought it was really funny – I wasn’t laughing.

Secondly it is amazing to me that anyone could say that this 4 year old didn’t know what he was doing or that this was an accident. Four year olds are old enough to know what happens when you push the flush button – and they are also old enough to know how to treat a puppy of any age and to know that you don’t flush animals down a toliet. Not to mention that the parents of this child should have been supervising this child anytime he was in contact with a puppy.

I am very glad that this puppy made it through the ordeal and am hoping that this little kid get taught a lesson about taking care of animals and the responsibility that follows.

baths are not dangerous putting an animal in a toilet is! where are some people’s brains? these people should not be allowed to keep the puppy I fully agree with Mary this is not funny or cute it’s appalling!

  15. Valerie Pegg

Wow, was he washing his dog with toilet cleaner, too? I’ve never heard of anyone putting a dog in a toilet to wash them. “Wash” and “toilet” just don’t go together! That poor puppy. I hope his little brain is ok!

  16. Blue

    This is just screwed up.

1.) A four-year-old should not be left alone with a puppy, unless it is a older puppy, but really never.

2.) What are they even DOING with a week old puppy? That puppy should still be with it’s mother, even then they shouldn’t really even been handling it.

3.) How did the puppy get muddy if it’s only 1 week old.

I hope this kid gets in BIG trouble for what he did, even a 4 year old should know not to put a newborn puppy into the toilet, this isn’t funny it’s just wrong. I always tell the kids I watch about how to properly treat animals, and I get very angry when someone does something bad to any of my animals in any way. They should get this poor puppy relocated to a better home, that may sound intense but they shouldn’t have a week old puppy and they shouldn’t leave it unattended with little kids.
