June Is ‘Mattress Madness’ Giveaway Month

Horst Hoefinger

I’ve decided to make June ‘Mattress Madness’ month because three terrific companies have offered up beds and linens for giveaways.

Today we’re going to start with a small company, Molly Mutt. This company offers duvet covers for your dog’s existing bed.

molly mutt diy dog bed kits are an exciting new approach to keeping textiles out of our landfills. Cover your existing dog bed with the molly mutt dog duvet, or – here’s the cool part – fill it with the old clothes and bedding you’ve got laying around your house. ready to toss those jams & one-eyed care bears from the mid-nineties? throw those in your new cover! Your dog gets a new bed, and you get a fun, easy way to recycle your old things – not to mention some extra space in your closet. Need more ideas for duvet fillers?

Molly’s duvet covers all feature adorable designs and come in three sizes. I think offering covers for the bed you already have is a great idea.  You don’t need to buy another bed to get a different look. The other nice thing is having a second cover to put on when the one in use needs washing, which happens quite frequently at the Hoefinger household.

We’re offering a chance to win the Bird On A Wire duvet cover pictured above. The winner will be able to choose the appropriate size cover for the bed they have. To enter the contest just leave a comment in the comment section sharing a story about your dog’s sleeping habits.  Our girl Copper sleeps in the walk-in closet, strange but true. One night shortly after we got her she wandered into the closet and decided she likes sleeping there. We have a comfy dog bed on the floor and when we say “night night” she walks into her closet.  This works out well because she snores like a lumberjack.

So, share your story and on Friday, June 5th I will choose one lucky winner. If you would like to order a duvet Molly Mutt has offered a 10% discount to Dogsters who order  before June 30th. To redeem just enter “dogster” at checkout.

Good luck!

My shiba inu Tetsuya likes to be carried to bed at night. He is just slightly spoiled. ;) He sleeps sleeps up in the bed at night. During the day he naps either on the couch or in one of the dog beds.

  2. Bear's mom

Bear would love this! He currently has an old couch that I have been wanting to get rid of. If he had a substitute perhaps I could bribe him into giving up his couch and have something a little more dog appropriate!

  3. jaime

we are starting to let our huskies sleep outside of their crates at night, though the crate is left open and simi usually goes in there anyway. ash likes to sleep on towels near the crate.

  4. Cheryl M.

My Chihuahua Peanut, would love this as she likes to lay on the floor in the greenhouse while I garden. She usually lays on a beach towel, but this looks so comfy!!!

  5. Ardie

Ping our yellow lab loves going in the den on the old love seat and sleeping curled up next to the pillow. I think Ping would love this cause the love seat has to go!!

  6. Dilly

the bed was mine till a certian puppy moved in.
that puppy now weight 75 lbs, takes up more bed then mom, and puts off more heat then a blast furnace. so I have been pushed off on to the floor of all places! and to add injury to insult, the pup rolled over, stretched and fell off the bed! good thing for him I was sleeping right there to soften his fall!!!
I sure could use a comfy bed of my own

  7. Spike

Mom says I have the most strangest sleeping habits of any fur she’s ever known. I will get up on the bed with her for a short time before she goes to sleep at night, then I jump off the bed. I go to the foot of the bed, mom’s end, on the floor, put my head up underneath with my butt sticking out and sleep there until about 2 a.m. I’m back on the human bed for a few more hours until it’s time for mom to get up. Some nights I’m on & off the human bed more than once.

  8. Alex

BOL Laura loves to sleep with only her head under the bed. The rest of her body is sprawled out where people can easily trip on this crazy mutt! She also hates being put in her kennel, but will gladly sleep in there and pout if you kick her off the bed!

  9. Patriot

My 70 lbs. ‘puppy’ loves to sleep on my bed as most dogs do. The only thing is that he believes the bed is solely for him! He will stretch out and push on me with his paws till I shift over to the edge. He permits me to sleep with him only if I give him an ear scritch or a belly rub. When he falls asleep his antics don’t stop as he snores!

  10. Angie (Rem, Ping & Bella's mom)

Remington’s preferred nighttime bed is also in the closet! He has a bed in there, one at the foot of the bed, one in the den and a “outdoor” bed as well.

Ping sleeps on the bed right at the head. Period, no where else and no one takes her spot or she will lie on top of them until they (usually Bella) move.

Bella sleeps in the blue “dog chair”. It is not suitable for human use unless you want to look like a walking furball.

  11. Melissa

My girl Lucy jumps up in my bed for the night, every night – She gets all the way under the covers, at the foot of the bed and sleeps there until around 2 or 3 in the morning. From there she goes and sleeps on her dog bed – which is on the couch! ( : Around 5:30, she comes running into the bedroom to wake me up for her morning walk!

  12. miss molly

Miss Molly would love a new cover for her bed .
She always sleeps on her bed near my bed and loves to cuddle and scratch around her bed till she makes the perfect nest .

  13. Suagr Kisses

At bed time I usually get in bed with mom, untill she falls asleep, Then I get on the floor(mom’s side) between the bed and the closet and lay on my back with my legs in the air.

  14. Murphy (Smurphy)

Murphy has to sleep on his back with his paws up in the air, its so adorable. He can’t sleep without his night time drink either. Spoiled pup!

  15. Helen

Molly the compact Doberman mix has outgrown her puppy crate, so, we started her sleeping on the guest bed. She had a bit of a “digestive upset” the other night, so, I crated her after I tidied up the mess. It turn out she loves sleeping in the crate again, as big as she is. Her very own bed would be nicer, or, maybe one for her big brother, Koda, who hogs Mom and Dad’s bed with his exceedingly long legs and bushy tail.

  16. Joy Stanley

Tiger is my Service Dog and she has a bed beside my bed but most of the time I wake up and find her sleeping beside me on my bed and she is on her back with all four paws in the air snoring away like a buzz saw.
    .

  17. Janet

Cotto loves to sleep with the kids but now that he is close to 90 lbs. and snores, he now has to stay downstairs in the living room sofa snoring away.

  18. Charli

Logan tells us when it’s bedtime. Usually around 10:30, he sits right in front of us, staring. We ask if he’s ready for bed and he walks us down the hall to the bedroom and stands in front of his crate. He waits for us to tell him “night night” before he gets in.

  19. Charli

Rufus won’t lie down on a bed unless he has a blanket. And he doesn’t want any small chihuahua-sized blanket that would fit him – he has to have a full-sized fleece blanket so he can crawl under it and burrow around a bit. If the blanket wadded up and he can’t get under it, he barks until you go straighten it out for him.

  20. Donna

My pugs have a large bed that they all dogpile in. Minnie likes to sleep “on top” of one of the other dogs. Max loves being under the blankets and sometimes its hard to tell what paw belongs to waht dog! :)

  21. Dancing Coconut Kisses

My Brother Mr BARNEY and I have to share a Bed coz MAMA and DADDY can not afford a Separate Beds for each of us. We will be moving to TN and MAMA and DADDY want to get another Bed for Mr BARNEY coz he has Arthur Really Bad. Then we will be getting our New Pups Lady Lovebug and Shadow. They already have beds. WHAT is a Chihuahua MAMA to do since I am married to their DADDY WOOLY BULLY .
LOV AND COCO KISSES COCO N MAMA KAT

  22. I-H-B-K

My Kozmo is a Krazy sleeper. When we first adopted him he enjoyed sleeping in our King sized bed so much that he would go to bed way before anyone else did. Our bedroom is on the opposite end of the house! We would look all over for him just to find him snoozing away in our bed at any hour of the day. We even a small set of stairs by the bed that none of the other dogs would ever use. As soon as Kozmo moved in he walked right up those stairs and jumped in bed. Never even thought twice about using the stairs. At least now he waits until we go to bed before jumping in. He does sometimes sleep on real dog beds but unfortunately for us not at night. :(

  23. Adriana

Every night our two younger Vizslas each get covered and “tucked in” on a recliner (plus a kiss on the forehead goodnight). Our older Vizsla has a comfy dog bed in our room that she goes to and sits on until she is completely covered by her two blankets, only then does she lay down. If there is a thunderstorm in the night one of the younger one comes and crawls in under the covers with me to sleep out the storm. The oldest one stays on her dog bed every night until about 4:30, when she comes and crawls under the covers and cuddles with my husband until the alarm goes off at 5:15.

  24. Theresa

Prudence would love this too! She usually sleeps in my bed (or the loveseat). Her bedtime routine consists of her going upstairs to bed before I do! She’ll look over her shoulder as she’s going up, as if to ask “aren’t you coming to bed too?”
Thanks for the opportunity to win the duvet!

  25. Zoey

I have a little bed in Mom’s room. It’s really too small for me, I’m a German shepherd, and my legs kind of hang out of it, but I do like it. I will usually sleep on it, unless there’s a thunderstorm, then I have to be on the bed with Mom. Mom likes the “green” idea for this duvet cover, maybe we could stuff my little bed inside it (it has seen better days) along with some other old linens to keep out of the landfill and I will have a bed that actually fits me!

  26. Mudge

No one snores louder than Mudge..on his back…in front of HIS fan. AAAHHHH!!!!

  27. Becky

Our Phaneuf (a newfie) likes to play Goldilocks each night by trying out as many couch cushions as possible before settling on the one that is “just right”. One night she even crawled up on the couch I had fallen asleep on and sat on me!

  28. Gracie

Gracie has the strangest sleeping habits in my bunch. She actually likes to sleep UNDER her bed :) ) I will look over at where she is sleeping and not see her, instead, I see a lump under her dog bed.

  29. Sandy

My basset rescue, George, likes to sleep under my bed but migrates during the night. He usually ends up on his “blankie” next to the bed.

  30. Andrea Martin

Bed time is our dogs’ favorite time of day. We have a crate on the back porch and a crate inside the house also. Depending on the weather, they sleep in the appropriate one. Greta, our boxer mix, loves to sleep at all times of day. While we’re watching TV at night, she curls up on her pillow and sleeps for hours. She tightens up in the smallest ball I’ve ever seen and I don’t see how it’s possible for such a big dog to do that. Cassie, on the other hand, while she loves bed time, I think it’s just because it gives her a chance to bug Greta in a confined space. Cassie is a border collie, so she’s always moving. And that doesn’t change at bed time. I’ve decided she’s a vampire dog, because I don’t think she sleeps at all. Recently the dogs’ crate was in our bedroom, and Cassie kept us awake for hours with her heavy breathing and grooming of herself. She did it for hours.

  31. Makai

My parents spoiled me rotten when I was a puppy and so I HAVE to sleep under the covers nestled right next to my mom in a “spoon” position. I know my parents love me to help keep them warm but sometimes they wish they could snuggle with each other without me wedged in between them! (Not sure why…) If I can’t get myself under the covers, I’ll whine and paw at the duvet until one of my parents wakes up and pulls it back for me. (Like I said, I’m spoiled!) I think my parents would be so excited if I could start sleeping on a comfy bed of my own!

  32. Eric Weiss

Youki loves to lay next to me, head on a pillow or on her back, legs in the air. She thinks she is a human.

  33. Amanda

Chloe loves her current Molly Mutt Duvet cover and boy could she use another one in rotation! Chloe is a Golden Retriever and oh the fur! Her bed constantly needs to be washed. Even when the duvet is in the washer she will sleep on the bed, or chew her bone on the bed and will look at me curiously as she remains on the bed even while I try to get the clean duvet back on! When we say “goodnight Chloe” she gets in her bed at the foot of ours and lays there like a perfect little angel. By the middle of the night she’ll somehow end up with her head underneath our bed and legs sprawled out on the hardwood floor. But in the morning while we get ready, it’s back to her bed!

  34. Roudy

I go to bed early, about 8:30 or 9 pm. I like to smoosh down the pillows on the back of the sofa. Then, later in the night, usually about 1 am or so, I trek back to Mom’s bed and tap the mattress. She wakes up and puts me on the bed. Sometimes I lay on her, right where I fall, and sometimes I lay really, really, really close to her. Sometimes it’s between her knees so she has to sleep all splayed out on the bed. BOL! I’m just like a little old man who falls asleep in front of the TV and then goes to his bed later in the nighttime. BOL! If I’m interrupted, I even moan and groan some.

  35. Papillon Mom

Boy could we use that duvet cover! Miguel sleeps with me in the winter under the covers, but once it warms up he sleeps near my bed on some old decorative rough fiber covered pillows in the corner. I just realized that the pillows have holes all over them and the stuffing is coming out. Miguel must have tried to rearrange them by digging holes in them. The filling is still useful, but a new cover is definitely needed!

  36. Katie

    Pennie Nest!
I like to make a Pennie Nest. One of my favs is to go into the Lad’s room. There on the floor I can find: Care Bears, WebKinz, random stuffed animals, small blankets, dirty clothes, and some comforters. I pull them all into a nice pile. I can be heard throughout the house as I arrange my “Pennie Nest,” just so. Then I fall asleep. Unfortunately, I do have a penchant for Noses, so Little Lad has had the misfortune of discovering a few of his stuffed animals with missing noses.
I would love to have a duvet cover, I would find the stuffing myself (although I promise not to use any of Little Lad’s stuffed animals, even if they are missing their noses.)

  37. Steph T.

Our American Bulldog HAS to sleep in the laundry room on her XL doggie bed. She sleeps in there with the door closed because she’s in our face 4 AM every morning to eat if she’s not! Mackenzie is also is one of those “convulsion” sleepers. Those frequent bad dream spasms drive us crazy & no one sleeps.

Mackenzie’s doggie bed is on it’s last breath. Our boxer ripped up most of the foam mattress inside. The zippy cover is the only thing holding it together. The boxer also ate the zipper so taking the cover off to wash isn’t fun. Putting the freshy washed cover back on a devoured foam mattress with a broken zipper is a complete nightmare. Mackenzie Bulldog also drops anal gland “fish bombs” in her sleep. So the doggie bed cover needs to be washed often. Not to mention her white doggie hair all over her navy blue doggie bed isn’t pretty.

Please help Mackenzie replace her new doggie bed cover for better nights sleep. Please help Mackenzie’s Mommy have an easier time keeping the doggie bed clean – Thanks! :)

  38. Bonzer 299237

I have several beds, indoors and outdoors. Here I am on a lazy Sunday afternoon enjoying a siesta on my porch.

  39. Cindy L.

We have 3 dogs who all feel like they must get a piece of cheese before bed or they can’t go to sleep. If you forget to give them cheese, they stare at you until you remember. Spencer is a little dog and sleeps at the bottom of the bed most of the night. Then he wakes up around 4am and goes to sleep on the floor next to his sister, Delilah, who is asleep on her bed. She then sits up and stares at my husband until he wakes up and lets Delilah in the bed. Then Spencer gets on Delilah’s bed and sleeps until the alarm goes off. Moby has to sleep in the bed, under the covers between us. He starts off the night spooning my husband sharing his pillow and then switches to spooning me and sharing my pillow. When my alarm goes off and I get up, he slides over to my spot while I shower. Then I come back to bed for 10 more minutes of snuggles, which I set my alarm for. When the alarm goes off the second time, he jumps up, stretches and runs to the window and waits for us to open the blinds. Spencer won’t move until I come and stretch him out and Delilah won’t move until I come around the bed and pet her. If we mess up our routine during the week, nobody will eat their breakfast. So, yes, they are spoiled!

  40. Kinnick

Kinnick has a pillow bed that is large enough for him to fit on, but he prefers to lay with his head and front paws off the pillow and only his butt on the bed!

  41. Juanita S

Lizzy has to have her squishy pillow and will haul it with her to her next sleeping spot. She has only 3 legs and the pillow is her way of equalizing the pressure on her chest bones. Pretty smart pupper.

  42. Lindsay

We have 3 dog beds in our bedroom and 2 dogs. Of course, one of the beds is the coveted one, and each night the dogs compete for it while pretending not to. Willy will stake his claim early in the evening, but then right before our bedtime Ellie will bark at nothing. Willy will come running to investigate, and Ellie will nonchalantly walk into the bedroom and take Willy’s place. A different drama unfolds every night!

  43. Nugget,Daisy and Duke

    How cool!

Well we all sleep in mom and dad’s bed for the most part.
I (Daisy Mae) sleep on the pillows. Every now and then I get off of the bed (which I might add is a mattress with no box springs, can’t be too careful with our backs!) to a bed on the side of daddy. It’s my way of getting away from their tossing and turning!
Nugget sleeps either by mom and dads feet or on moms side on the bed that he claims is his!
Duke, well Duke sleeps in his snuggle sack at the foot of the bed and then sometime in the night makes his way up to mommy’s arms.
During the day though, we all sleep in our beds scattered around the house!

  44. Brenda

Honey, our biggest Pomeranian, who weighs in at 20 lbs., likes to sleep with half her body on her doggie pillow and half on the linoleum floor. This position is only complete when she sticks out her tongue and it touches the floor! ha

  45. Buck

Buck has a bed, but he will only sleep with the first half of his body on the floor and his rear on the bed. He tends to snore, too!

  46. Dawn

My Teddy is the biggest chihuahua I have ever seen. Teddy is so full of life, love, and personality! His favorite thing to do is to lick the achilles tendon of everyone he sees. He’s just barely 2 years old, and I love him with all my heart. When I lost my job last year, I had to take a job far far away where I can’t bring my Teddy. Therefore, my Mom gets custody of him for 3 weeks every month, and I get to smother him with love for the one week a month I’m home. I would love to have this duvet cover — I can stuff it with all my old clothes so Teddy can take comfort in my scent when I’m not there to cuddle him at night. Thanks! :)

  47. Kathy

My dogs have beds in the living room, but at night they tend to come get in bed with me!

  48. princess

My mommy has lots of old bedding to make me a bed . This is such a cool idea. I hope I win

  49. Primrose

I love this idea! My chis will sleep together for warmth and the funniest thing they do is “prepare” their bedding by digging at it for a few minutes. It can be a perfectly smooth surface and their digging doesn’t make one difference but I guess it’s an instinct. Some times they will get up and re-dig because something just wasn’t right and even though nothing physically changed about the surface, they fall asleep quite content with their work. Seriously, they never look so blissfull as when they’ve dug a good bed.

  50. Cheyenne & Cinnamons' Family

Cheyenne really wants to win this so she doesn’t have to share her bed with her sisters! Her mommy likes the idea of stuffing it with old pj’s and other stuff!

  51. Carol and Darby

Bedtime means I share a full size bed with four animals! Fortunately, three are small and manage to fit comfortably, but Darby the Collie winds up at the foot of the bed, stretched across width-wide. Usually he moves down to the ottoman or his old bed on the floor during the night. It would be nice to spruce up his old bed with a nice, new duvet.

  52. Shadow

Shadow is a Service Dog and many days he’s out working for over eight hours. So, when he gets home he wants to hit the sack. His bed has been in use since he was a puppy and so after five years of crashing its seen better days. So, to win a new comfy bed would be great for a Service Dog can have a good night sleep when off duty.

  53. Spreti

I have 2 dalmatians who are totally in sync with me. I work late and they stay up late, I wake up late and they wont leave their bed till I do. So much that in the am, when I wake up and do a loud yawn, they do one too. Its fun waking up with my doggies every morning!

  54. SAMSON

I have 3 places I sleep during the day.

First – Right after my early morning walk, Mommy gets on the puter, and I sleep right by her feet in my doggy bed.

2nd Place – In the early evening, I sleep on the couch, while Mommy watches an hour or so of television and unwinds before her bedtime.

And the 3rd place is in the big bed with Mommy. Oh, and ya know what? Just about 4 a.m. every night, I get up and paw Mommy in the face and when she lifts her head to see what’s going on – I sneak in and curl up on her pillow. BOL!

She don’t mind though cuz she loves me.

    Arrooo!

    SAMSON

  55. Autumn

Autumn loves to sleep on her back and would love a new cover on her bed

  56. Ripley Von Pugginstein

I am 12 weeks old and I dont have my own bed yet. I do enjoy them tho. Mojo dosn’t like to share his and he growls at me. I would love to win this bed and have a place to call my very own.
    Thank you Ripley

  57. Max, MIghtydog

Max is 11 years old, part golden retriever/belgium shepherd. When we go into the bedroom, he will jump on the bed, and be so happy we are all together, snuggle with us and go to sleep. The minute the lights go out, he feels it is his duty to protect us, so he jumps down, and lays on his bed for a few minutes, but then goes into the hallway where he can “be on guard” to cover all the entrances to our room. No one taught him this, he just does it on his own. He could really use a new cover for his bed for when he uses it during the day and for those few minutes at night, as a “thank you” for all he does for us to keep us safe!
