Sad Day At Dogster
I’ve just been informed that three Dogster pups, all belonging to the same household, have been poisoned by antifreeze. It saddens me to share the news that all have passed over to Rainbow Bridge.
The beautiful dogs lost were Jake, Joey, and Nari. Not much is known at this time, but it’s suspected that someone in the neighborhood is responsible. I will update as soon as I have more information. In the meantime, please visit their homepages and leave a little love. I have no doubt their owner is in desperate need of some kind thoughts to help get her through this. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family.
Antifreeze poisoning is a big issue because dogs are drawn to the sweet smell. Dogs have even been known to chew through the container when they find it left in the garage or elsewhere in the house. It’s so important to make sure the container is stored in a safe and secure place, just like you would do if you had a small child at home. It’s reported that about 10,000 accidental poisonings, both cats and dogs, happen per year.
Death by antifreeze poisoning is not a pretty way to go, it’s a long and painful death. The good news is that if you get your pet to the vet within 9-12 hours after ingestion they may recover.
Symptoms of antifreeze poisoning include a drunken appearance including staggering, lack of coordination, and apparent disorientation and vomiting. The animal may appear listless and depressed.
Because early signs of antifreeze poisoning often mimic signs of other illness, neither you or your veterinarian may suspect antifreeze poisoning until it is too late.
Fortunately, in house lab tests performed by your veterinarian by assist in the diagnosis of antifreeze toxicity.

I am still stunned. I was just reading all their stories on Wednesday and how much they all meant to her. And that she choose and was training Nari to be her service dog for her depression. She’s going to need to be on medication now. I’m am still just absolutely shocked. I hope those lowlifes get what’s coming to them. I’d like to poison them. I have been through this.
My dog Rockey (a pug mix) was poisoned intentionally by my uncle. I went on vacation and my grandfather offered to watch my boy. He put him in the garage at night to sleep. My uncle (who lives with my grandfather) came home drunk from a bar one night stepped in a pile of poop and thew some rat poison in his crate. I still cannot look him in the face.
Anyway I know this is a terrible feeling. Everyone keep this poor family in your prayers I know they will be in mine.

That is awful. It is a sick person that does something like that . They will have to answer someday. My heart goes out the family of the sweet pup’s.
It’s never easy to accept that a fellow human being would do this to defensless dogs/animals. Judge a person by the way they treat animals. The people who did this aren’t worth much.

Once i saw there i was covered in tears. This is the saddest event i’ve ever read. My heart goes out to you, i’ve been through losing a pet and it is very hard, nevermind losing 3 canine best friends. This is a very hard and tough situation, i’m glad you did the best that you could do to save every single one of your dog’s lives. I’m so sorry for your losses and they will be deeply missed. I’m really worried about their young owner. She already suffers from serious depression. My heart has gone out to her time and time again ready Nari’s diary, and I’ve worried about her even *with* Nari.
I hope they catch whoever did this. The laws against animal cruelty probably wouldn’t do much, but maybe they can charge him with attempted murder of Nari’s owner, considering she was a psychiatric therapy dog.

We are so very, very sorry for these babies and their family. We hope their mama can find peace in the fact that they are happy, healthy, and waiting for her in a beautiful place of pure happiness. Our hopes and prayers are that she can feel the love that they still have for her, and the love and support of her dogster pals. Nothing will ever heal this hurt, but maybe make it bearable with time. We also hope that “what goes around, comes around” and the evil, cowardly scum that did this feels the fire of hell.

Anti freeze is such, a deadly thing, my parent before I was born, had a dog die of anti-freeze poisoning, they learned to keep their cars checked and the anti-freeze kept away from doggy level.
I pray this never happens again to any dog owner.

We recently had a neighbor, (we suspect!) that poisoned one of our Labs; same symptons. We were fortunate, we gave him lots of Pepto and he vomited all night! We live in rural Ms., no vets near at on a weekend night. We send our condolences for all three of your beloved. I’m so sorry that happened, there’s so many bad people out there! If there is one thing we can do as a community to make sure this never happens to another dog owner again, start a campaign to outlaw the use of ethylene glycol. Propylene glycol is a safe alternative to it. It can be used as an alternative in mostly all substances containing ethylene.

I agree that I hope whoever did this pays painfully and for a long time. I know it won’t happen, but I can wish. For someone to be that cruel there just has to be something that can be done to them to equal at least part of the pain they’ve caused. What a beautiful family. So sorry to hear of the great loss of such beautiful dogs that loved life so much. I can only imagine the pain. Groups like the Humane Society and Doris Day Animal League have received support by State and Federal lawmakers to pass legislation that would require manufacturers to include a bitter taste to antifreeze. While the bills are slowly winding their ways through Congress, states like Arizona, California, Maine, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington have already passed similar bills.
Have been reeling from this news since last week. Still can’t believe that this has happened. This family has not left my thoughts since I first learned of the tragedy. Godspeed sweet pups and know the whole dogster community is mourning your loss.

I lost my sweet little Dogster pal Katie Lynn to antifreeze poisoning not long ago, and a neighbor was suspected in that as well. This makes my tail droop, and water is coming out of my mommy’s eyes. Our pawrayers are with this family.
I can only imagine what you are going through. I lost my dog Jim on May 31st of last year and it was the hardest day of my life. I wish strength for you during this very hard time. I’m sickened to hear this. Losing one pet would be horrible, but three? I can’t imagine.
So painful a loss, you have our deepest condolences. I saw too much of this over the years working at animal hospitals. They put Bitrex in household chemicals to deter children, one would think they could do the same kindness to help prevent pet tragedies.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is hard for me to comprehend how anyone could leave antifreeze out for the purpose of harming or killing an animal. One of my first collies was poisoned by someone in our old neighborhood with antifreeze. It was very traumatic and over 40 years later – I still remember. They are in heaven running through God’s fields. I hope you find comfort in their memories.

I am saddened and horrified…particularly if an outside influence transpired to place these dog in danger.
We need to band, together, and write to the manufacturers, to have anti-freeze, which has a sweet taste, from what I have read about the product, changed to a formula whose smell would deter animals from tasting it.

I am so sorry to hear this. I had a neighbor who put antifreeze in catfood trying to get rid of the stray cats in the neighborhood and my dog got into it. She denied it and no “proof” was ever established but I know the truth. It broke my heart to hold my precious dog in my arms as she had seizures and went into a coma. We wish there was some thing that we could say to take away the pain in your heart that you feel right now with the lost of your three babies, Jake, Joey and Nari. We do know that they are together in a place were there is no pain or suffering, and that someday you will see them again.

So sorry about the loss of all these sweet pups. Our dog Simon had to be euthanized this year due to a sudden infection and it was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. To have to say goodbye to three at one time is so unfair. Our condolences to you at this very sad time.

Gizmo, Zoey and I are deeply sorry that you have gone through something so horrible. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Just over a month ago Gizmo and Zoey (my precious Chihuahuas) also got into antifreeze sometime during our walk around the trails at our apartment complex. We got incredibly lucky that I noticed it in Zoey right away (she’s so small that it affected her very quickly). Both dogs tested off the charts. When I heard the vet say “antifreeze” my heart literally stopped. I continue to thank God everyday that we were one of the lucky ones. It breaks my heart to think of anyone who has gone through this unthinkable ordeal and has lost a member of their family. You can be as careful as possible around your household, but it’s so scary to think of what you cannot control. And it’s sickening to ever think any of these incidents could be intentional. Please find comfort in knowing that Jake, Joey and Nari are all together in doggie heaven and all of us here on Dogster are praying for you all.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special
friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water
and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy
and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special
to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body
quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

That’s so sad. Socrates got very sick 6 weeks ago with kidney failure followed rapidly by liver and pancreas failure. She was on a drip, daily for 2 weeks. I’d stay with her at the vets and take her home at night. I suspected a puddle of anti-freeze which I’d left on the floor of the van. Having read all the info from dogster I’m not so sure, because the puddle was there more than 10 days before she got sick. It’s certainly a wake up call. I wish I had known how dangerous anti-freeze was.
Socs appears to be on the mend, but will always have to eat very small meals often. The only problem is that it’s so difficult to get her to drink. Which is common I think with dogs with kidney failure.

Me and we be so sad cause hadn’t beens dat long since we mades furiends with Nari and ones of our newer furiends and now Nari and Jake and Joey all gone and crossed dat Rainbow Bridge and haves dere wings. Very sad day indeed and mades Mom makes sure no antifreeze be outs and abouts and also mades her checks de driveway under de cars and makes sures none haves leaked. So sorry dat de three doggies be gone and God watch over de family and dere humans and God watch over dem over dat Rainbow Bridge.

I feel your pain. I also lost a dog 9 years ago. I lived in a small trailer park that was over run with stray cats. Someone put anti-freeze out to kill them and my Star found it. Just enough, it took her 2 weeks to die. There was nothing we could do. She was in the animal hospital for most of that time, but it was just too late. Her kidneys were shutting down. It is sad that people do bad things like this to dogs. Dogs are not just things they are family, they form part of the family and become FAMILY MEMBERS. They are great companions and best of buddies. I feel very sad at what happend to Jake, Neri and Joey. It is that people who hate dogs will do these things and they inturn hate their own lives. Hate is a sin and who ever did this to Jake, Neri and Joey will have to answer to God for sure. Dogs are God’s creation and what He created can not be destroyed by man. But men do destroy because their hearts are empty. But mine if hurting for Joey, Jake and Neri, but I know that God has them with Him. I do not know Joey, Neri nor Jake but I know how it is to have a life time companion taken away from you. I suffered this years ago and it is not easy, but comfort is in the Lord who knows and will see the one who did this in the end.
I must add, that much terrible things are being done to Pit Bulls also. I had neighbors who has 2 Pit Bulls, Chyna and Blue. They are loving dogs. Every time I walk by their home, Chyna comes running to me, lays down and awaits her belley rub. Since she is very old but still strong, I give her a body massage and she falls asleep. I love her so much. My daughter has an American Pit Bull Terrier she is so adorable, she comes to me and she gets up on hind legs, puts her front paws around my neck and begs me to pick her up, yes, pick her up and craddle her like a baby even though she is a year and a half. Her mom Fica also an American Pit Bull Terrier does the same. I love then and here in Puerto Rico we are fighting for the passing of the Law 158 now Law 500 to Protect Pit Bulls and to recognize them and let them have their stance and place in society. Here there are large groups around the Island that are very organized in the defence of the Pit Bull. It’s president is the owner of Chyna and Blue and he is leading the fight in defence of the Pit Bull. It is sad that no one can take their Pit Bull for a walk because some hate them and see them as vicious animals. I see the Pit Bull as cute loving babies. I have been to meetings where all Pit Bulls from around the Island get together with the owners and protest to protect the Pit Bull. It is so wonderful to see ALL the Pit Bulls together in diverse activities such as tug of war with a long rope, chase, play ball, fetch and much more. During these meetings and events NONE of the Pit Bulls has causes problems and they do NOT need muzzles as the law wants. They do not need short chains and they do not need to be locked up or tied down. I add this comment because many Pit Bulls suffer and die because humans treat them as beasts and vicious animals, yet criminals commit crimes and they walk the streets because the law see them fine, yet a Pit Bull who is calm, friendly and a family member has to be accused and mistreated by authorities because they are loving pets. This is so horrendous, I don’t know where to start. For three dogs in one family to die of poisioning at once is tragic enough but to think that they were given the antifreeze deliberately is even worse.
Had I had to have all of my pets put down on one day (God forbid), I would have needed sedation. I hope that the owner will find the strength to come through this as I personally don’t think I could.
My heart breaks for you, please know that we are all thinking of you and take some comfort.
So sorry to hear of this, those poor innocent lives lost. Hopefully the culprit will get his just punishment. Remember all the happy times. I know you are not ready yet, but maybe someday another special friend will come to live with you.
My heart goes out to you. I, too, lost a dog to antifreeze poisoning. My 18month old chocolate lab, Duke–back in Feb. 1988–he is forever in my heart. I found out later that a neighbor had been setting out bowls of it for stray cats–SICK PEOPLE!! At the time, my vet informed me that all it takes to shut down a dog’s kidneys is ONE DROP!!! If caught soon enough, before brain damage occurs, kidney dialysis can be used to try to flush the dogs system clean. Along w/ nausea & vomiting is an unquenchable thirst, and lack of ability to urinate. This was the first & only time he had ever left our yard–One Friday afternoon, I was in the shower, he began urgently barking to go out–i ran to the door & let him out, jumped back in the shower to rinse off the soap, went back to the door (5 minutes tops) & he was gone. It was winter- I found tracks of his & another dog’s. I searched for hours. He came home about 8 hours later. All night he was throwing up–I figured he had eaten out of someone’s garbage or something- he had never had people food. He slept most of Saturday, getting up only to drink. When he did get up, he was staggerring all over. I called my vet & took him in that eve. By Monday, after doing all tests possible, we had to put him under.
SO- even if you are POSITIVe that your dog will never leave his yard—don’t let them out unsupervised–you never know what will intice them to wander off.
We can only imagine the pain of your loss, and it hurts our hearts. You are in our thoughts and prayers as you struggle with this nightmare.
Thank you for allowing us to share in your sorrow, and for helping to educate other dog parents on the danger of antifreeze. Because of you, I now know that dogs are attracted to antifreeze. I will be very careful in making sure it is kept up, if at all in my garage.

Pet Friendly Anti-Freeze??? there is no such thing or at least I wouldnt trust it. That’s like my landlord telling me they have pet friendly bug spray and came in to spray while the next day my cat is puking! I dont think so. Karma will get them. I’m so very sorry for your lost, and it saddens me to think there are such horrible people out there abusing our beautiful creatures who just want to be loved.

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have witnessed a dog and some cats in our neighborhood suffer from antifreeze poisoning, it was done by one of our neighbors who was trying to get rid of ferral cats, however he ended up killing family pets. If I could have proven he did it I would have pushed it with the authorities.

i am looking at a picture of my beautiful ivory, when he was little and playing with his brother. i had him for 13 sweet and silly years. he was the dog of my life and when i had to end his suffering mine did not end. but it helps to look at the picture and realize HE IS IN HEAVEN NOW, PLAYING WITH HIS BROTHER, with a strong body and no pain. that is the best i could ask for him because i love him so much.
so i wrote down the special things i loved about him and i will love him FOREVER. then i got some other dogsters to take care of and they are each wonderful.

I am so sorry for your loss, especially 3 dogs at one time. I understand your pain, last year my dog Mystery had to be put down due to antifreeze poisoning. That was the hardest thing I have ever had to do and i still think about it everyday and think that somehow I could have stopped it from happening. And we also had a puppy, Tebow, that died at the same exact time. He had parvo and was hospitalized for 4 days and ended up not making it. Through all this we realized how much our pets mean to us and how important it is to monitor their every move. Again so sorry for your loss.

If this was deliberate, it could only have been done by someone who has never known the love of a dog. Its a sign of their very empty, angry, and compassionless existence. The desire for vengeance is a natural human one, due to their evil act, but let our animals serve as an example to us. I still will never find it in my heart to pity them, but may we all find some comfort in the blessings we have known and seen as loving caregivers to the animals that live only to love and please us.

Just remember when you’re through your grief, there are so many that need your love. Adopt in memory of the ones you lost! It helps the grieving process. so very sorry to hear of your loss that is one reason my mom never leaves us out without supervision, Brutus got one tsp. of antifreeze once and he was so sick he went to the emergency vet and was saved, around our house we use pet safe products our owner feels it is important and we are never left out alone so someone can’t come by and poison us because we are Rotties
I am so sorry for your loss and knowing this was preventable makes it even harder to deal with. I lost two furkids to the poisoned dog food and they died from kidney failure too. It is hard to loose a loved pet and to loose 3 at one time is beyond sad. I only hope you are comforted knowing that their spirits will be near you forever whenever you think of them. You may catch a glimpse of them out of the corner of your eye from time to time…it is their spirits checking on you and letting you know they love you even from the other side. I am so sorry for your loss.

Hi my name is ashley i had 2 dogs that died i had a 16 year old dog die of old age and a 10 year old dog die of slipne cancer that the vet could not find he was my buddy my best friend we did everything and one day he died in my arms on a montain on christmas eve I am 20 years old he died in my mom and dads car in my arms it was so scary because he was dieing all the way up to my grandmas house i miss him terrifly we got him and my other dog cermatied and they are with us everyday in our hearts. I have to say I’m a little appalled at a lot of these comments some of you are bringing up the owner and saying she’ll need medication now and that your concerened for her mental health keep that to yourself how insensitive can you get? while the rest of you think it’s your time to post your own stories and say your dogs are waiting for them at rainbow bridge come on! this is’nt about you can’t you just say I’m sorry for your loss we already know you would’nt want to be them and you love your dogs again not about you can you just leave your condolences and leave it at that? and I really hope the person who posted on Nari’s diary that she was screaming and needs to go to the hospital knew the owner personally because if not that was ridiculous you don’t ruin someone’s tribute like that unless you knew them so I really hope you did.I am very sorry for your loss and a lot of these comments.

So sorry for your loss. The same terrible thing happened in a couple of offleash parks in Ontario,Canada Someone thru muffins laced with antifreeze. Hope they catch the person who did this to 3 beautiful dogs

Oh,my darling, I am so saddened by your loss that I am crying. I’ve been there, and I desperatly wish that I could do something to comfort you. I am a friend of Bill W.and if you know him, you know he’s gotsomewords of comfort. Child, Know this’ your “kids” will never leave you, and everywhere you go , you will know they are running along beside you. Look and see the signs. I know my boy Fabian is still following me around. to the family of these 3 beautiful and precious and innocent dogs – i feel so so bad and i wouldn’t be able to survive this – last year my neighbor tried to poison my baby beagle with a plant poison – it cost me $2,000 to pull him thru, he was just a baby at the time but he made it and this person admitted it. Your babies are so beautiful and tonight when I come home from work I’m going to give mine a special hug cause I know how you feel this must be devasting i know it was for me when my beagle was poisoned. I’ll pray for you and your 3 adorable doggies.

What a sad day for your family. I work for an automotive repair shop and we are very careful not to leave coolant on the ground outside for any animal to drink. I am so sorry for your loss. I so hope you find who did this and will be able to see justice.
