Meet And Greet

Horst Hoefinger

Last week Dogster’s poll was to find out the most endearing thing that your pooch regularly does to show affection?  There were five options to choose from. As you can see, “Follows around the house” came in first with a big lead over the others. A little over 1,500 Dogsters participated in the poll.

Greets me at the door (25.13%)

Licks my face (17.82%)

Follows around the house (37.63%)

Gives me puppy dog eyes (8.31%)

Other (Leave a comment) (11.10%)

The only reason Bo follows us around the house is in case we drop food while we’re walking. I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with affection. To find out what qualifies as “Other” you’ll have to go read the comments.

To have a little fun I’m going to throw out a zealie contest.  To be entered for a chance to win 50 zealies leave a comment in the comment section and share a story that has to do with affection.  It can be anything, doesn’t matter. On Monday, May 25th I’ll choose a winner.

This week’s poll wants to know what professional canine sports your pooch would be best at playing?  You need to check out the poll to find the choices.

14 Woofs

  1. Angie (Rem, Ping & Bella's mom)

Ping likes to get into your lap and then throw her head back and rub it under your chin. She makes little groaning sounds when she does this. And if you kiss the top of her head at the same time she really groans.

  2. Cindy Radtke

Buddy wriggles his butt in the air and tries to bury his face under my leg, while I scratch his butt and make woowoowoo sounds. We’re quite a sight. Tildy rubs herself on the side of the bed, back and forth, waiting for her turn. Too cute.

  3. parrisreddog

My sweet pooch loves me so much, that even after she got left in the house all day (no accidents!) and dinner was very very late, She still greeted me like I was the best dog mama in the world! she still sat on my feet while I watched tv too!

  4. DarlaMae

Darla loves to walk under our seated legs and bunks her bum into us while woowoowooing. Its adorable to us and we love her special welcome. It has taken a visitor aback briefly asking ” What’ the heck is she doing & is she growling at me? No not a growl or “attack”. Its all Love, hi happy to see you welcome. So if you get the woowoo bunks you are in like Flint, bol.

  5. 3V'sMom

My first Vizsla Ginger had a stuffed hotdog toy that became her “puppy”. Even though she was spayed before her first heat she mothered and washed and gingerly carried her hotdog “puppy” everywhere just like a mother dog would to a real puppy. (mind you most other stuffed toys got shredded in under five minutes) She would tuck her “puppy” safely in a corner when she had to leave it to go outside and faithfully return to it when she came in. She would never leave it with my husband but I was considered trustworthy enough to babysit her “puppy” and she would bring it and gently pup it on my lap. Eventually we had to “wean” the hotdog “puppy” when she became overly protect of it around my husband. Oh she was so distraught!

  6. Tyler

My Nan passed away just over 3 years ago now and understandably my mum still gets very upset when she thinks of her. A couple of times we’ve seen real emotion and love from Tyler when my mum has been crying. He sits up in his bed, looks straight at my mum, goes over to her and rests his head on her lap. It really is as if to say “It’s ok, i’m here for you”. It’s a really special thing to witness as you can just feel that deep bond that Ty has with us. He’s often let me hug him for what seems like hours, he doesn’t budge, he lets me wrap my arms around his neck and he puts his head over my shoulder and i just feel loved. He’s a very special boy to me.

  7. Dancing Coconut Kisses

MAMA always carries me with her since I am her Service Dog but if I stay at home the Mr BARNEY is on one side of the door waiting and I am on the other side waiting. When MAMA opens the door she can not step foot in the house unless we get head rubs and body massages and we give lots of Kisses all over MAMA’S face when she bends down and her arms too. Then we let her in the door. She sits in her Chair and I jump up in her lap giving more kisses and Mr BARNEY has to be picked up. Mr BARNEY always misses kissing MAMA’s Cheeks coz he is blind but he always gets MAMA on the nose. MAMA says Mr BARNEY’S Kisses are special .

  8. Aggie L

My young westie, Riley shows his love by the way he snuggles. All I have to do is open my arms, like you would to a child who is running to you, and he will come right up snuggle close and lay against my chest and look up at me with the most trusting eyes. You can feel his love and gratitude. (He is a rescue pup)

  9. Carina

My shiba inu, Tetsuya, loves to cuddle on the couch with me. He likes to fall asleep on the couch while I pet him. That is until my other shiba inu, Deshi, jumps on the couch wanting to play. :)

  10. Mudge

When I’m sitting in a chair, Mudge will sit next to me and lean his big, sweet head against my chest. (Just to give you all some perspective, he’s a St. Bernard, so his head reaches my chest level when we’re both sitting.) He’ll just lean there and let me hug and pet him for a while. He’s normally a pretty active guy for a Saint, so I’m sure those moments are truly affection. We call them “Mudge hugs.” Now, if I’m sitting on the floor, it’s a whole different story—then I become a couch! He just plops his big ol’ butt right in my lap like he weighs no more than his shih tzu brother!

  11. cybertoad

My mixed breed puppy Pascal likes to play-bite a bit too much still so he gets scolded and when he does he burrows his nose into you to show he is sorry. I have also taught him to give me kisses when I say it in Spanish, “Dame un besito.” (”Give me a kiss.”) And always wanting to play, he jumps on the couch with you and stands over or on you with his toy so you can join in on his fun!

  12. cynthia

It just melts my heart when my 8 year old Rottie Thor puts his paw on my hand when we have our “lovefest”! Its like he’s holding my hand!

  13. Ziggy Moonbeam & Mom

Ziggy wasn’t too snuggly with me until my husband passed away. His heart always belonged to Jim. But once he figured out that his papa wasn’t coming home, he became the sweetest little guy I could ever imagine. When I was sad, he’d crawl up into my lap and just lay there quietly lying as close as possible. When I nap, he’s right there, too – we’re back-to-back, and he’ll sleep as long as I do. He is beside me no matter where we go. He watches out for dangerous things – big dogs, cars coming too fast, or loud construction projects and let’s me know with a funny squeek that’s a kind of signal, that I need to look out. So long as I live, I’ll always treasure this little dog with a big heart.

  14. Horst Hoefinger

Congrats to 3 V’s Mom who won the 50 zealies.
