Win A Painted Portrait Of Your Dog
Horst Hoefinger

In December I did a post on artist Kathryn Beals who painted Dogster member Sabrina’s portrait. The painting came out great, I was really impressed.  As it turns out, Sabrina is just one of many Dogster members she has painted.

Kathryn recently contacted me with an offer I couldn’t refuse, a chance for a Dogster member to win a head portrait of their dog. The winner gets a free 14 x 18 head shot portrait, shipping and tax included.

The winner’s portrait progress will be featured on Kathryn’s How I Paint blog. It’s a really cool site where you can follow the progress of her latest, and greatest, paintings. It’s so interesting to see how she takes an image from a photograph and turns it into an amazing painting.

To enter just leave a comment in the comment section sharing why your pup is picture perfect.  Just the fact that your dog is adorable is reason enough. The contest runs today through Monday, April 27th when I will choose one lucky winner.

Kathryn’s portraits are a great gift to give yourself or one of your dog loving friends. It’s also a wonderful way to memorialize your dog,  something special you’ll have long after your best friend is gone. One of the best things about Kathryn’s work is that she guarantees it. If for any reason you are not happy you can get your money back. How many artists offer that deal?  I can tell you, not many.

Right now Dogsters have an opportunity to get a portrait at a discounted price. If you order a painting now through the end of May you will receive $50 off. All you need to do is email Kathryn at kathryn[AT]bealsstudios.com and let her know you are a Dogster member prior to placing your order. If you have any questions regarding the special or to do with a commissioned painting just send her an email.

    Thank you Kathryn!
    I love Ollie’s and Sabrina’s paintings.
Thanks for offering the discount and the chance to win a head shot.
    Love, sonja

  2. Jet

Wow, it would be so nice to win a portrait of my little guy. He’s picture perfect for so many reasons. Jet is our (my fiance & I) first puppy, so he holds a very special place in my heart. He is now 10 months old and still as cute as the day we got him. I mean, what’s cuter than a blue merle sheltie? ;) Needless to say, I take many, many pictures of him. He is always so good with the camera and loves to give me a big smile. I would love to see how Kathryn would paint a picture of Jet. I can’t afford to buy a painting since I’m still in college and have a lot of things to pay for, but it would surely be an honor to win one. :D

  3. Jennifer

Well, Mr BoJangles is one cute puggle! He should have been named Elvis, because he loves the ladies and the ladies LOVE him! This is a great contest and offer! Thanks so much!

  4. Spot

    That really sounds perfect!!!!
I believe that Spot is picture perfect.Firstly, because he is a handsome dog.He is a Labrador Retriever mix and he might not have a Pedigree with mighty bloodlines but he’s my best friend and whenever you look at his face you’ll see a huge smile and his shiny chestnut eyes filled with happiness and affection.

Love from Spot and his mom

  5. Stephanie

Ginger just turned 11 yrs old this month and it would be an honor to have her portrait done so that i’ll have her with me always. Even thought about getting a tattoo of her one day, I love her so much! Thanks for the opportunity!

  6. Amelia

Although I have many pictures of Schatzi, the smiling Eskimo diva, a painting by Kathryn would add a more personal dimension to her face…as though Kathryn could see her soul.

Blessings to this artist who thrives with her paintings because photos just don’t tell the whole story.

  7. Lori

Kathryn, you’ll never see prettier lil’ hound that my beloved Lucy!

Thanks for offering Dogster members such a generous discount!

  8. Truman

Why is my pup picture perfect? Truman is the picture perfect pup because he is a wonderful companion, and knows how to be fierce and ’smile with his eyes’ (in the words of Tyra Banks from America’s Next Top Model). He has a certain glow about him which demands attention from the camera. His presence can be felt from each and every one of his photos, regardless of his pose or wardrobe. Truman is my very first dog and it would mean the world to me to be able to have his picture made into a stunning portrait. Truman is a great brother to Phanto (our beautiful white cat who would love a self portrait!) and a superb friend. I thank you for this opportunity and truly hope that I will be fortunate enough to hang a portrait of my best friend on my wall…

  9. Peter Wolken

Lucy Skye is not only adorable but very smart. She is a rescue dog, a border collie mix and we love her too much ! Can I send in her photo?

  10. Ariana

My two westies are the most adorable and have the most spunky personalities ever. Their expressions would be captured beautifully in a portrait. Lia being spoiled since 12 weeks thinks she’s human and Ferris being a rescue pup has developed a personality you can’t help but love as well. Either one or both would be picture perfect.

  11. Buddy

Buddy is picture perfect because he is like no other dogs; In appearance or mannerisms. Buddy has extremely expressive ears and the eye brows to match.

If Buddy could be described in one word it would be: Misunderstood. Buddy has some issues that display themselves most when we are on a walk. I know that most of the people we see on our walks think of Buddy as a scary, aggressive dog. We are working to help him with his problems, but in the meantime I try to take as many pictures of Buddy as I can, to show off his other, sweet side.

He’s picture perfect because his sweet pictures give me hope that one day everybody will see Buddy this way.

  12. Shelby Suelzle

    HI, Kathrynnnn,
I am a courageous companion with a fearless heart and I can charm the skin off a snake. I am feisty, fun and full of mischief. Can you catch all that in a photo? You wont be bored. We Jacks have a big personality in a small package, you might even need a canvas or two. I am the soul mate of my adorable owner- she is a good girl and I wanted to let you know. I was born on her foot so, we are inseparable! I am a picture perfect JRT. Grrrrr – I put Wishbone and Eddy to shame, let me at emmm! I am all white with a brown patch on the left side of my face. Let’s play ball! Joyjoy

  13. Tom Irwin

Would love to have a painting of my dog Sadie, the best dog in the world. It would be a constant reminder of her unconditional love.

  14. Bessie Best

My pup is picture perfect because of her cuteness and photogenically, cute face. In every picture I take of her it’s always looking at me like “hey you didn’t do anything for me” Looking at me with puppy dog eyes.

  15. Tir Na N'Ogh

Tir is absolutely perfect- GCG at 6 months, Therapy Dog as well as my Service Dog- he has worked at that for 12 years!
    (he still helps his Mom…).
A picture would really have to work at capturing this boy’s Karma!

  16. Jamie and Risa

Risa would be a good choice. She has an endearing smile that is simply contagious. It’s impossible to not break out into a grin yourself upon seeing her smiling so happily.

  17. Deb Phillips & Dakota

Dakota needs her picture painted because I don’t own a camera and my hands shake so terribly when I try to take her picture with my phone camera. She is a beautiful multi-colored, long-coated German Shepherd who is a Service Dog and deserves to have her picture painted. She saves my life each day and is the love of my life. Thank you so much Ms Beal !

  18. Nena

Well, I’m biased, but I think Miss has the most adorable face I’ve ever seen. She’s so very expressive and her coloring is so beautiful in the sunlight. I have literally seen her glow in the sunset. She’s just brimming with warmth and joy.

What a wonderful offer – thank you Kathryn!

  19. Alexandra

Wow that is a great offer! I love to look at the pictures of the portraits she paints. I would love to have a painting of Laura. She is my 2nd puppy I have raised/trained to be a service dog for a mobility impaired person. She holds a special place in my heart as my first girl. And she is too dang cute!!
Although she is in advanced training right now and will find a new person soon I still love her!!

  20. GeeRome

I have the two most handsome dogs around! But I think Romeo would be just perfect for this opportunity. See, my other boy Gio, has lots of pictures done of him. But poor little Romeo is left out. He’s such a charming little man and people always comment on how striking his markings are and what amazing expression he has in his eyes. Just this evening at our therapy dog visit to the city hospital, one of the gentlemen we were visiting commented how much his eyes glowed and how clear it was that he understood every word that people were saying around him. Full of intelligence, and a spit-fire to boot!

  21. Casey Lomonaco

I am Mokie and Monte’s “mom” and have had the wonderful pleasure of having Kathryn paint my dogs.

This isn’t meant to be an entry, but it is meant to be a heartfelt endorsement of Kathryn Beals. Aside from doing a wonderful job with our painting, she is an extremely nice lady, fun to e-chat with, and has an uncanny knack for painting a dog’s personality into a portrait.

We just love Kathryn Beals. You can bet that we will be ordering more portraits from her in the future (note the plural – portraits – we want many Kathryn Beals originals in our household!).

Thanks, Kathryn, you rock! We know the winner will be happy with their prize!

  22. Michele

Mordecai is so cute that if they ever make a movie about Eureka, he’ll be billed by name and I’ll be billed as Mordecai’s handler.

  23. Janet V

I would so love to win a picture of my dog China D. She’s a rescue dog, who was in pretty sorry shape when I got her. Now she is happy, healthy and beautiful. I have lots of pictures of her looking not so pretty, and when I compare them to how she looks today its like I have a different dog. What a wonderful thing it would be to have a portrait of who she looks today! Thanks so much for the contest.

  24. Ella

Look at those EARS! And that sweet face… :o ) Nothing would thrill us more than to capture Ella’s sweetness in a portrait!

  25. Carissa

Kathryn’s paintings are amazing. She did such great work with our pals Mocha, Monte, Sabrina and Ollie.

I don’t have “traditionally beautiful” purebreds, but I do have 2 shelter mutts who endlessly brighten my day. A portrait of them to brighten my day long after they are no longer with us would be a wonderful thing to have. I’m sure whoever wins the contest will love it!

  26. Amy (Tipper's Mom)

Wow! I was just admiring two member’s pictures and I wondered where they were done!

My Tipper is picture perfect…in color OR Black and White…she’s a Dalmatian! :) When this girl gives me the “eyes”, my heart melts into a puddle, and I’d love to see those eyes portrayed through your painting!

CONGRATULATIONS on such beautiful work! What talent!

  27. Dee

Angel would be a perfect model for a painting! He’s a beautiful Akita with markings that seem to attract lots of attention. Plus, despite it being a bit atypical for Akitas, he’s a ham that just *loves* attention. He deserves a treat too, he had a hard life before I got him. He was found wandering a local park, dragging half a leash behind him with good reason to suspect he’d been wandering a while. But he had such an excellent temperament and adapted so well that he was able to become a service dog despite his beginnings.

  28. Tisa

What a wonderful prize and beautiful painting! My 12 year dog has only a few weeks left to live so would love to have her painted at some point. Thanks! ~ :)

  29. Scooter's Mom

Scooter is picture perfect due to his one of a kind personality and expressive nature. One look into his eyes and you can see both the wisdom and mischief lurking there. Keenly aware of being a topic of conversation, his cheeky side shines when he rolls his eyes and dramatically sighs at being called a “cute puppy” or addressed in baby talk. Always up for a new adventure, he struts through life with his tail held high. As a service dog, he lives to work; even during his “off duty” time, he chooses to stay close and check in regularly.

  30. Deborah Eve Rubin

Toby is a black pom, a rarely seen color. my psychiatric service dog, he enchants everyone he meets. He knows what i need, when i need it. And he knows when we meet someone who could benefit from petting a little dog – he’s reserved with people, doesn’t really like petting from strangers, but if a person is in a bad place, toby shares himself with them. He is my guardian angel, the reason i have for living. He keeps himself on duty all the time, even when he’s off duty. His coat shines, his eyes are bright with the light of doggy intelligence, he is exquisite.

  31. BUTTERCUP

Buttercup would be the pawfect pup to draw.. when we first rescued her, her eyes were totally empty , her soul lost , she has bloomed into the most beautiful maltese with they most gorgeous eyes and darling half pink lip … her darling tapping of one paw and tail wagging when spoken to makes your heart melt. Diagnosed with congestive heart failure you never know how long one has , so it would be an honor to have her chosen as your next portrait.Dogster id#396743

  32. MISS DIXIE MONROE

Boy would my mommy love a portrait of me … Found on the edge of the woods unable to walk because all four legs had been crushed i was finally found and taken to a shelter where my new mommys adopted me. I have now gone through 7 operations to fix my legs so i can walk .. wouldn’t it be sumptin to hand dem a bootiful portriat of me .. after all ,they have spent their life savings and more to help get me on my feet . Fanks for considering me as your next portrait .Dats, Miss Dixie Monroe dogster id # 396548

  33. Laney's Mom

Laney’s wrinkly face makes her that much more photogenic. She wins over everyone she meets!

  34. John D.

What to say that has not already been said before?

  35. John D.

I love the sample painting. It is so serene.

  36. Katrina

I got my dog, Sophie, at 4 months old in hopes that she would become my
service dog and replace the one I just had to retired prematurely. Sophie is
almost 2 and nearing the end of her training. I was planning on her taking her
public access test this summer. However earlier this month I got some severely
devestating news when I had her xrays done. She has substantial arthritis in
both her elbows. Although the vet says that it is ok to work her as long as she
is comfortable, her life will be complicated and painful. She doesn’t show pain
right now but that is bound to change as the damage gets worse. The vets told me
there aren’t many options for treatment. Mostly all that can be done for now
according to them is to keep her comfortable and active. Eventually the
condition will get worse. One person has suggested a ray of hope through the use
of stem cells but the proceedure is very costly. Her breeder has been contacted
but will not act until she turns 2 and we send her x-rays to the OFA for
confirmation. I love her dearly and don’t want to have to give her up. She is
such a great dog and loves me so much. She has already done so much to help me.
She has the largest ears I’ve ever seen on a GSD. I don’t know that the future
holds for us but I would love to have such a special momento of my special girl.

  37. Candy

    My dog
is picture perfect because she is a service dog in training and a doberman. She
has done amazing things not only for me but for her breed as a whole. There are
not many dobes in my area and people have the perception of a doberman from tv
as an aggressive breed. A dobe with a good temperament is never aggressive. She
has changed how people in my area view the entire breed. With so many places
trying to ban because of breed she has shown people that it is not any breed
that is the problem. It is with breeders who breed dogs with improper
temperament and owners who do not put the time into the dog as they would a
child. It is the owners responsibility to socialize and train a dog so that it
is a good citizen. Some breeds tend to attract all the wrong people and some
encourage all the wrong things or just leave them in the yard untrained and
unsocialized. A dog is a member of the family not an ego tool or way to have a
‘I’m bad’ image. It seems only the bad news makes news and I feel that the good
    ones should!

  38. Kate

    What a great contest!

Baloo deserves to be immortalized in paint because he reminds me everyday about the important things in life. Not to stress the small stuff, pack as much joy as possible into every single second, and the fact that a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet. He keeps me grounded and helps put everything in perspective.

He has singlehandedly made a dog lover out of his ‘dad’, something I doubted would ever really happen.

We love him so much, and can’t imagine our lives without him. :)

    He’s one-of-a-kind

  39. Bambi

    Wow, what a fantastic opportunity!

Well, I believe that Bambi would be perfect because she is such a personable little dog. Not only is she adorable, but she makes the cutest little expressions! She loves the camera, is actually quite a “ham” when she sees me with it.

I would love to get one of her pictures captured in a painting by Kathryn. =)

  40. Hershey

Hershey is one of the most unique dogs I’ve seen. People often refer to him as a “long-haired chocolate Lab”!

  41. Alexandra

I already posted an entry, this time I’m just attaching Laura’s page for viewing!

  42. Sara

They say your “eyes say it all” and I would love to have what my pup’s eyes tell me everyday captured forever in a portrait. We may not be able to communicate in words, but her eyes tell me how appreciative she is that I rescued her. I hope that she also knows how appreciative I am that I was able to rescue her.

I know I am biased, but I do believe she is “picture perfect.” Fortunately we live in a dog friendly city and she gets to go many places with me. It always takes me twice as long to get things done with her because people are constantly asking to take a picture with her. People find it so hard to believe that a little purebred was a rescued dog. I have been asked where her batteries are because she just looks like a little stuffed animal. She is an absolute joy.

  43. Veronica, Sabrina and Ollivander

You know I love Kathryn’s paintings– she’s working on one of Ollie and Sabrina right now in her http://www.howipaint.com blog! So I don’t need to win another one! But I am worried that you aren’t getting a lot of entries in this contest because I’ve had at least 10 people tell me they can’t leave comments on this page, that they’ve tried multiple times and it isn’t working! Can you fix this bug?

  44. Horst Hoefinger

Hi Pups..I know some of you have been having trouble leaving a comment, I have passed this information on. If you try to post and can’t please contact Support at support@dogster.com, and provide details about the problem you are having: Web browser, error messages, etc.

  45. Mollie

Momma likes ta joke by sayin I have a face that only a momma could luv, snort, snort.

Really tho, she says I’m very bootiful an that’s why she luvs takin my picture all the time. She says I have very unique features wif my chocolate colourin, hound-dawg face an long, silky ears

So many times when we’re out walkin, peeps will tell momma how purdy I am an ask if she thought a breedin me, Momma tells em, I’m spayed an there won’t be any little Mollie’s.

I’m an original. An momma luvs me jus the way I am.

***Pawsonally….I think she luvs my face cuz I have more wrinkles than her…..but don’t tell er I said that….k???

  46. Sport

I love Sabrina, Mokie, and Monte’s portraits!

Sport is my rescued dachshund mix. He’s been through a lot in his life so far.

Before the age of one, he was slated to be euthanized twice. First was when he was found as a stray puppy in Kansas. Second was during his adolescence when this unsocilized and untrained dog bit a woman in fear. That is when he came to my house.

Sport came to me terrified and skinny. These days you can just see his zest for life in every action, woof, and smile. He is a heartbreaker and a hoot!

  47. Bonzer

Please consider Bonzer (#299237) for a portrait. He is such a sweet dog and as his motto says- a good boy! He’s pretty unique looking too with his one ear up and one ear down and all speckled and spotted.

There is no special rescue story for him- he came from a box of puppies in front of the grocery store 7 years ago but we feel so very privileged to have him as a family member.

  48. Monty

Monty is picture perfect to paint as if you look into his eyes you can see deep into his soul, on my Birthday, the 21st of April it was also the three month mark from when we had to put dear sweet Monty down. We had been searching all over the web for custom dog portraits but we found all were too expensive. Disappointed we gave up, someone did do a sketch but it’s not the same as a beautiful painting. Monty used to love posing for pictures and was truly, picture perfect.

  49. nina

    i recognized sabrina immediately!
    what a gorgeous portrait!
i would love a portrait of myself but there are more deserving doggies already asking, so i will make due with photos.
this is a lovely contest and the portraits are just wonderful!
Ms. Beals is a very talented artist and very sweet to make this offer to dogster!

  50. Tiffany & Emma

This would be a lovely, and unique way to celebrate a pet. Coincidentally, that is exactly the way I describe Emma. :)

  51. Jasmine

    test

  52. Sammy

Picture perfect?? That’s me ;) Mom says that I am the most beautiful boy ever. She has such a hard time capturing my beauty on camera though. We have a cheap-o digital camera, and she can never get the focus/lighting quite right with my black fur. She wants to capture the love and devotion in my eyes, but can’t quite get it. The real me is sensitive and intelligent, goofy and fun loving. She has always wanted to see my face painted by a loving hand. What a wonderful gift Kathryn is giving!

  53. Joey

Joey is picture perfect because he not only has the looks of a dog model, but his warm heart radiates through his eyes through photographs.

Joey is so unique-looking and adorable with short fur, a spotted nose, a wrinkly Shar-Pei face, and pig-like feet. What’s not to love about this canine alien from space? He loves nothing more than to roll his tennis ball down to your feet and have you throw it for him. His tail is always wagging. In all of his pictures he is just a smiling, happy boy. And no matter what anyone else thinks of him, I will always think he is picture perfect.

  54. Toby

Toby is nearly 5 months old, and still as cute as a button, but that isn’t the reason I would like a painting!
Toby is tricolour, mainly black, and in most of the photos I take, his beautiful brown eyes just don’t show up! I want just one picture of my wonderful boy when his eyes can be seen in all their sparkling glory, is that too much to ask?

  55. DogManic

Both of my boxers are picture perfect. Gwydion has a gentle soul that reaches out to you even from a photo. Brigid has such a deep devotion and spunk, you can read her mischief in her eyes.

  56. Ellen McCarthy

A hero can be anything. Well, my hero is my Service Dog, Shadow. He’s been working in my shadow now for close too five years. Shadow has given me a new lease on life and lets me enjoy it daily. A painting would be a fitting tribute to this hero because one day he’ll have to step down from his role. It will be a lasting reminder of how the two us were a team.

  57. Shadow

Should have put his name down instead of mine .. Oh well.. We’re a team and work together…

  58. Shadow

The bug problem that Sabrina’s mom mentions about not being able to post in an IE problem. Dogster said that we should post under Firefox or other non IE servers…

  59. Sheba

My beautiful adorable Sheba has gone to the bridge, but her memory is forever here every single day and night. I love her still.

  60. Debbie

A painted potrait would be a beautiful gift. If I were to win I would like a potrait of my good friends keeshond Keesha. She lost Keesha to cancer and she was her “heart” dog. I think it would make a wonderful keepsake for her.

  61. M Baja

    Beautiful portraits!

  62. Kate

My Cairn Terrier, Izzy, would be the perfect choice for a portrait. She is the superstar in my life, and I would love to immortalize her as art! Izzy would be quite pleased with herself as well.

  63. Bella

With Mothers Day and Fathers day coming up, what a great gift I could give to Mommy and Daddy!

    Love

    Bella

  64. Shari

Marley is my little toy poodle and he would make a wonderful subject for a painting. He is the cutest, sweetest little friend I have ever had. A painting would be such an honor for him and me.
    Thank you.

  65. Amy

Lucy is perfect for a painted portrait because she does not photograph particularly well. She is one of the most beautiful dogs I’ve ever knows (inside and out) – people comment on her looks all the time, even strangers, because she is so different looking and lovely. But, due to her brindle coloring and unusual mix of fur and hair that falls somewhere between fluffy and flat, she tends to not photograph well. She just reflects the light weird and, although sometimes we get nice shots of her, they rarely look totally like her. She ends up looking different than she does in real life, or she just blends into the background. I often say she is not very photogenic – just like her mom! Lucy is so special in our hearts. She is truly a one-of-a kind dog that is so full of love and character. I would love to have that captured artistically.

  66. barrie

I have a 9 year old Belgian Malinois, Fancy. I almost lost her to a mammary tumor in 2007 and I guess I have just never gotten over that because not a day goes by that I don’t worry about losing her. For the first two years of her life, Fancy would allow no one but me to lay a hand on her and never solicited petting from another person until she about 5 years old. I distinctly remember that day. She was acting like a normal dog so the person she walked up to was just like, “oh hi” whatever, right? I was totally blown away by that one moment though. For a long time it was just me and Fancy. All day every day. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001 and if I hadn’t had Fancy to require my presence since it wasn’t as though she would allow anyone else to care for her…well I don’t know what would have happened if I hadn’t had Fancy. I am utterly grateful that I did and do have her! I know one day I won’t. That this remarkable being will no longer exist just seems impossible. I have learned so much from her. I have a lot of photographs of Fancy with which to remember her. Nothing can EVER replace her for me. I do not know if an artist could really capture her essence but I would love to discover it to be possible!

  67. vida

Wow, that’s one great prize! My dog Rosie is picture perfect because at first sight my husband pointed her out as ‘the new neighbors ugly dog”. She was little and shivered a lot and seemed afraid of everything. A few months down the road the neighbors left and knocked on our door on the way out of town, could we take their dog? They didn’t want her anymore. My husband held her while she shook and cowered and we said yes. A year or so later and she is my husbands pride and joy, he calls her his brave beauty and she is both brave and beautiful. She is strong now and the confidence shining from her eyes is wonderful, I’d love to have that cocky grin of hers in paint to always remember.

  68. Gigi - MACH Harpur's Giddy Upp

My sister Rickie Roo is SO naughty that I don’t think mommy would EVER think to have her portrait done.

She has eaten eyeglasses, cel phones has done poopies in the house… but even though she is the naughtiest puppy in the world, I bet my my mommy would LOVE to have a portrait of her.

—–So glad this comment section is fixed. I tried LOTS of times to comment and it wouldn’t let me

  69. Steph T.

Miss Beals would love to paint our Mackenzie because she is an absolute original. You will not find another dog like her. Mackenzie gets stopped wherever she goes. She’s a Show Stopper. Everyone wants a Mackenzie!

Mackenzie is half American Bulldog, half Olde English Bulldog. Many think she resemble “Petey” from The Little Rascals. Mackenzie’s black eye is real though, not markered on.

Mackenzie would be an artist’s ideal challenge to paint. If you draw a line down Mackenzie, it’s like having two completely different dogs. No two spots, marks, patches, or pigments are the same.

Mackenzie is an 80-lb. lap dog. She loves sunbathing, lip smacking, bed long jumping, loud obnoxious men, Kongs, & doggie day care. Mackenzie’s favorite thing is spooning Mommy watching TV at night.

    Come check out Mackenzie: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/186752

  70. Zoey

Zoey is picture perfect because she ISN’T picture perfect! She is my multiple issue, special needs girl, and in the three + years I have had her, she has done amazing well for an originally dog aggressive, shy, scared dog. She even misses me when I am gone! For a long time that wasn’t true. Also due to being herself she has managed to get banned from every groomer in a 30 mile raduis, and is now stuck with me on clippers. Poor thing!

  71. angel mica-the wonderpup

the best PAWsible reason i can think of to pick me is to do it FUR mom 4 mothers day. mom would have a hard time IF left up 2 her, since she’d want to submit my baby sister mirra if she did me.. she’s fair that way.
the computer is free right now, so i shall seize the OP!!

mom would be torn 2 choose 1 of us, tho i know mirra would say, “mom, you can never turn down a new image of mica, since she is an angel, when you can run & get the camera FUR me.”

and mirra, even FUR her upcoming 2 year old WOOFday, is wise 4 her years.. err, better make that year!

i know many would be excellent choices, since we read and recognized a number of mates who have submitted requests herein, but we’d also appreciate IF you’d come meet us- before you decide- TO learn about IMHA.

both of our woofdays are in MAY, as is mothers day.
i wish you’d pick me, not just fur mom’s sake, but cuz of the IMHA.. the chance to learn i mean. we work hard on that.
thanks FUR considering mirra or me. like i said, mom wouldn’t be able to choose.

    love, angel mica (and mirra)

  72. M H Ramsey

I’d love to have one of my boy Jake, A wonderful way to remember a good dog.

  73. Gracie

Thanks for such a generous offer, Kathryn! I would love a portrait of either of my baby girls as I think they’re perfect. I suppose I’m a bit biased, though. I can’t think of a better way to pay homage to my best buddies who are by my side through thick and thin. Regardless of my mood, when I walk through the door, my girls are in top form to celebrate my return! “Mom’s home!”
Art is about stirring feelings and my girls bring out all the very best emotions I have. A forever portrait made by a dog-loving kindred spirit would be a joy to have!
    Thank You,
    Gracie

  74. Schnooks

Wow, what an incredible gift this artist, Kathryn has! My mom would like a portrait of me because she thinks I am so beautiful & extremely cute. She is correct about that. I pose for photos and I am very photogenic. I’d be a good model, Kat, I would! You would fall in love with me…probably want to keep me for your very own!

Oh, my mom just told me that you would probably do the portrait from a photo. Oh. I thought I was going to have my debut as a famous model. Ok, that’s OK! I would still love to have a portrait done of me.

Pick me, please! Or, I could come visit and we could do a sitting…maybe have a snack…I could bark for you. Did I mention that I am a basset hound, very photogenic and EASY to paint? Also, a very prolific barker & squirrel chaser. I can send my CV if you want?

    Call me!

  75. steve wolk

Hillary, our most recent rescue, looks like a Yorkie on stilts (long legs) with wild black hair that looks like she’s just been electro-shocked. She is just too cute. If Kathryn wants a painting challenge, Hillary can supply it.

  76. Janet Biersack

Storm our shiloh shepherd is a very special boy he is very stunning and has a very noble look. He loves all people young and old. He is a registered therapy dog. And also a International Champion with rarities a rare breed dog club. He has given us a few sired litters but most of all he is our buddy and our soul mate. He can make us laugh and make us think what would we do without storm in our lives. We would be honored to have a portrait of Storm done and that way we will always have him with us. Storm you have enriched our lives by your presence.

  77. Maureen

My beautiful springer spaniel died this past March at 13 yrs old. She was so beautiful and majestic that strangers would walk up to us on the street to comment on how beautiful she was or ask if we were interested in breeding her. Molly was truly special though because of her beautiful spirit. She was a very loving dog and her eyes were so expressive. I would like to have a painting in her memory and to memorialize her beauty and spirit. Thank you for considering her.

  78. Darby

I may be just a tad biased but i think Darby is the most adorable Corgi i’ve ever seen! He’s what’s known as a fluffy ( long-haired ) and his personality just shines through all his pictures! It would be an honor to have his portrait painted! Thanks so much for offering this, Kathryn!

I’m sure happy i was finally able to post here :)

  79. trixiemae marshmellow ears

Look at me need i say more. I am adorable and I am A rescue from horrible puppy mill in Ensanda Mexico .I was adopted on June 7 2003 age 3
that was my birthday. since then my life has been a dream come true.
I never new I could find such love and devotion. from a human.I thought They were all Cruel.
I would love to celebrate my 6th yr June 7th
with one of your most beautiful portraits.

    with paws crossed
i sit and wait to hear from you .

    hugs
    Trixiemae Marshmellow Ears

  80. Mudge

Mudge can’t go for a walk without drawing attention. People driving by crane their necks to look at him, they smile, and walkers frequently stop us to ask if they can pet him. Heck, we’ve even had people stop their cars to call out what a beautiful dog he is! Surely a dog so magnificent deserves his own portrait….at least his “mommy” thinks he does :)

  81. Cheryl

Kathryn’s portraits are beautiful–all four that you have shown us reveal the love in each dog’s eyes! Magnificent! If I was to win this contest, I would have Kathryn paint my Dad’s dog–Gizmo. My dad is completely crazy about that “little man in a fur coat” as Dad calls him. It would mean alot to my dad and since he has done alot for his family over the years, it just seems fitting. Thanks for listening. Again, Kathryn, your paintings are wonderful! Thanks, Dogster, for sharing them with us.

  82. Goober

My mom always says “I have a face only a mother can love”….well I would like to prove to her through your talent and artistic ability’s everyone can love my face. Please choose me ~hugs and wet nose kisses~ Goober :@P

  83. Binny

It’s been almost three years since I had to leave my Mommy and Daddy and go to the Rainbow Bridge. I would love to let them know how much I love and miss them and how much I appreciated everything they did for me the six short years I lived on earth. Please help me bridge the gap from heaven to earth for a moment so I can get this message to them and choose me for a memorial portrait for my beloved people.

  84. Hannah

Oh, to have a painting of my beloved Hannah, it’s been almost 2 years since we lost her. She was only 4 1/2 she is greatly missed & always will be.

  85. Suzanne

I would love a painting of my French Bulldog. I love the style of these paintings, and a Frenchie (who is so expressive anyway) would be adorable. Kiwi would like this special present for her birthday. Even if her birthday is not for a while.

  86. DarlaMae

The eyes have it,depth and soul of this grrrl of ours. Pics with our old basic camera are so hard to capture her beauty as it is in person.. those eyes drew us to the scared scrawny waif and they keep us enchanted each day.

  87. Ashley

I would love a painting of Meili. Her big brown eyes captivate me and melt my heart over each and every day. I couldn’t think of a better way to honor my spunky little shih tzu!

  88. Jenah Parris

My Tallulah is so beautiful! She has the sweetest eyes to match her sweet loving personality! I think she would be a beautiful subject for a painting. I would love to have one of her, but am not able to afford one at this time as my husband has been laid off. It would also be a wonderful birthday present…she will be one next month. She is an American Bulldog, and so many people want to lump her in w/pitbulls, etc…I always tell them punish the deed, not the breed! No breed is bad, just bad owners! She is a wonderful girl! Thanks for listening.

  89. Barkley Orville

    Hurray!! I can post now!!!

I think Barkley would be perfect in a painting. He deserves it because he is my service dog and if not for him I would not be here today.

His pointy ears always perked up ready to listen and take to what you have to say.

His feet so small and petite that you can barley hear the pitter patter of him walking across the floor.

His tail I love because it looks like a foxes tail so fluffy and always moving with excitment.

His eyes so brown and expressive, it is almost like he can talk to you with the way he looks at you.

His nose always sniffing somthing (except on duty of course) and taking in information to know when to tell me that I have a panic attack coming.

His fur my favorite, the way it feels through my fingers I just want more. So soft and long.

I love Barkley so much and a painting of him would be so wonderful so I can have somthing to look at and remind me of him, even though he will always be in my heart.

  90. Canine Crusader

Darlin’ is worthy of a self portrait because she has a new home to display it. Six weeks ago she lived alone in the woods beyond a rock yard. I fed her for six months before trapping her so there is no telling how long she was on her own before we met. Her rescue and story has captured the hearts of thousands of Pet Finder viewers that suggested I create a blog for her progress. She has that so a portrait to commemorate her homecoming would be wonderful. Darlin’ has gone from skin and bones to a healthy and beautiful mixed breed girl – the perfect subject for any painting.

  91. Karen

    Hi,

I would love a chance to win a portrait of my beloved Tensing who I lost to a 23 month battle with lymphoma on 12/15/08 and I always wanted one done, but never had the extra money to get it done.

  92. Jessie

I would love a painted portrait of Ozzie.
His eyes are so expressive and his stare is breath taking. The expressions he gives are so warming and his charm is like none other. His personality shines through his pictures. He’s picture perfect!

  93. Carina

I would love a painting of one of my dogs. :)

  94. Princess Marley

Wow these are so beautiful thanks for the opportunity

    Princess Marley and da mom

  95. Hershey

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to let the world see how beautiful Hershey is!

  96. Deborah

What a fabulous offer! Kathryn’s work is just beautiful. We would be so honored to have a painting of our precious “Goldie.” Goldie is a 17 1/2 year old Golden Retriever mix and her family has always thought she’s the most beautiful dog in the world! This has been a difficult year for Goldie healthwise and we are all trying to cope with what’s inevitable. A portrait painted by Kathryn would really be treasured by us all.

  97. Dalebo

    What wonderfull portrait’s above.
It’s wonderfull,to share your talent here, for all of to see,Thankyou.

I would love to have a Portrait of my Dalebo,as a forever keepsake,of our first dog,and to alway’s have his face, after he passes, his memories will alway’s live on,along with many stories.

    You should be so Proud!!!

  98. Dean Ran

I would love to win a painted portrait of my dog!
For one, my dog is the best looking great dane I have ever seen. She gets comments everywhere we go on her coloring and markings. She is mantle merle in color. Her name is Boo.
Besides being a gorgeous dog, she is very well behaved, and I love her very much. She is without a doubt the best dog I have ever had.
Everyone should experience the joy of owning a great dane!

  99. Meisha Marie

Please consider Meisha for a portrait. You do lovely work, and I would charish it for the rest of my life. She is one of the most beautiful Shih tzu I have ever seen, and I would love to capture it in a portrait. Thanks for your consideration. I know this is a tough choice, I don’t envy you at all.

  100. Roberta

Please consider Crystal for your portrait, She is adorable and I would love to get a portrait of her. I know every dog on dogster is special and it has got to be tough to make a choice but I would like you to consider Crystal. Thank you and good luck to what pup you pick.

  101. Sarah A

It’s so nice to be able to post!
We would love to be able to have a portrait of Yvie, so she can continue to show the world that shelter pups are the way to go!

  102. Nugget, Daisy Mae & Duke

I believe all three of my babies are picture perfect!
Nugget because he is a perfect Angel, currently sleeping next tot the couch to guard his daddy who has a broken knee cap.
Daisy Mae because her insides are not so perfect, she makes up for life long bad health with her spunk and personality! A belly rub makes her wag her tail and friends smile.
And Duke because he is a whole lot of tuff in a tiny package!
    They are all our love~
We love these portraits and hope to some day get one!

  103. JOANN KENNEDY

I have a few dogs but the one who was special was my mixed breed Trucker.. We got him when he was only 4 weeks old and from that time he changed our lives we rescued a few dogs and cats after that and feed many stray cats that came to our door. Trucker always welcomed each animal with a kiss. His love of everything and anybody was true. He was a dog that loved life but as he got older age took a great toll on him and had surgeries for his ear and even though he was in pain he did not make any noise.. We had to let him cross over to the rainbow bridge last year after having battling Blindness, and cancer we miss him but even though we still have two huskies Trucker will never be forgotten .R.I.P. Trucker until we meet again ..I know a painting will capture his eyes and that is what you always notice when you looked at him ..

  104. SAMSON

Mommy thinks I’m picture perfect – or in her words – ‘ate-up with cuteness’. She would love to have a portrait of me!

What a great prize! Thanks Kathryn!

    Wiggles and Wags,
    SAMSON

  105. Connie

What a great prize..I would love a picture of my buldog. He is only 5 months old and picture perfect for sure. I didn’t see any other bulldogs that have been painted in the gallery of her work but I bet she would do a wonderful job catching the perfect look of my puppy. There is nothing cuter then a bulldog puppy and mine is perfect! From his dark round eyes and wringles, capturing his awesomeness would be an honour.

  106. Molly

Boochi Bug is my little glamour girl. I received her quite by surprise…she was given to me when she was only 5 weeks old. I wasn’t even sure what breed she was at the time, but she has grown into a gorgeous chocolate tri colored, deer head chihuahua. I love her more than I could ever express. I would absolutly treasure a painting of my beautiful little princess.

  107. Koda

Now that I can access the page on my PC, we missed the contest deadline. Next time…

My Koda is a love of a puppy. He has the best temperament I have seen or met in a dog. He is well adjusted, easy going, knows how to send calming signals to other dogs and grows more affectionate and interactive everyday. Koda is my pound puppy. He brought us serenity. Lily taught him how to romp and play and be affectionate.

Bear hug from Koda. Thanks for the contest idea.

  108. Jessica

Marley would be the perfect canidate for a dog painting, it would be challenging yet fun to see, My baby is a year and a half old and one of the reasons I first fell in love with her was cause she has a BIG black and brown spot on her eye, and shes spotted all over on white fur! She is the cutest dog I’ve ever seen…and very photogenic! She hasn’t been getting as much attention as she used to now that her new baby sister came to live with us though she is taking it very well and I think this would make her happy…and me, I would have a real piece of art to show off…NOT TO SAY SHES NOT A PIECE OF WORK HERSELF CAUSE THAT SHE IS!!!

  109. Mini

Hi there! I really dont know what to say since everyone has said so many beautiful complimentary things already. There’s no way to say who’s most deserving so I say…. Please? Also I’m going to submit a little poem my momma and I wrote. Hope this entry isn’t too late,

    My Momma

    She’s my partner in crime,
    She’s my parole officer,

    She’s my personal chef,
    She’s my personal trainer,

    She’s a scold when I’m bad,
She’s a snuggle.. all the time,

    She’s everything.

    My Mini

Thank you and Good luck Kathryn, this wont be easy!

  110. Donna

I love to take photos and Molly is one of my favorite subjects…she’s very photogenic!

It would be wonderful to have a painting of Molly too. Your portraits are “to die for.”

Thanks for the chance to win a furtastic piece of art.

  111. Nari

Oh my gosh, to win one of these paintings would just be the opportunity of a lifetime. I would absolutely treasure the painting forever.

Nari is my psychiatric service dog, she is the one who helps me get through the day. She wakes me up, gets me going, and has breathed the life back into me. She is being taught to alert me to my anxiety attacks and to keep me safe during those anxiety attacks too. I don’t know what I would do without this girl. She is my best friend… and to have a hand painted portrait of her would just be so special.

We recently went through a very scary time with Nari, she was bit by a rattlesnake while on a walk out in the woods, but thankfully we were able to get her in to the vet right away and get her treated, she is recovering well. But because of this recent incident I can’t afford a portrait of my beloved service dog.

Picture perfect wouldn’t even be the right description… it wouldn’t do Nari justice… she’s beyond picture perfect in my eyes, and in the eyes of the people who are blessed to meet this beautiful, wonderful dog.

Looking into her eyes is like peering into a pool of joyous youth. An adventurous creek rushing with heart, caring, good humor, and a hint of immaturity- like a bud waiting to blossom.

When you run your hand down her coat you can feel how soft each strand of hair is. It glistens in the sun, the color of a rusty sunset. The reds, oranges, and bits of black all smeared into one living canvas.

Her ears prick up, animated by any sound that reaches them. Her tail gently wags and wags, content with whatever life throws at her.

And despite having been through so much as a shelter dog, she just has so much love to give. She has made such a transformation from a hand-me-down shelter dog into a blossoming, blooming service dog. She is just radiating with love. You can see this love through her eyes, you can see it in every photo I take. My dog, Nari, is not just picture perfect… My dog, Nari is a work of art.

  112. Evelyn Cummings

Hi, LOVE your paintings. My poodle, Toto, is very photogenic, and I would assume he would also be a wonderful subject for a painting. I would be absolutely thrilled to win the drawing for this painting.
    Thanks,
    Evelyn

  113. jessie

I would love to have a painting of my morgan, for many reasons. She is a wonderful friend, always there for me, never demanding, trust worthy, loyal, and a forever constant joy in my life. I’ve almost lost her once or twice before and it would be great to have her forever on my wall.

  114. Colonel

I would like to make this “mother’s day” picture perfect by getting my human mom a portrait of myself and seeing the smile on her face. She loves and takes the best care of my sisters and me. I think it would be pretty special to give her a permanent “smile” to have furever!!

  115. Sammie

What a wonderful tribute to my Sammie girl, she is such a sweet thing. After my beautiful golden retreiver Brandy passed, my fellow co-workers(friends) got together and bought Sammie for me!!! I can’t even begin to tell you how much that means to me , although I miss Brandy I couldn’t imagine my life without Sammie in it. I always wanted a portrait of Brandy, but sadly I didn’t get it done. So it would mean so much to have one of your beautiful portraits of Sammie. Thanks so much, Lisa

  116. Colonel

I would like to make this “mother’s day” picture perfect by getting my human mom a portrait of myself and seeing the smile on her face. She loves and takes the best care of my sisters and me. I think it would be pretty special to give her a permanent “smile” to have furever!!

(posted again to try and make my site come up–not too computer savy)

  117. ruth mcmasters

my chiweenies would look so cute on a picture like this a and i would have an ever lasting picture of the fist dogs i have ever really had.

  118. bob and pita & Teddy

Our Pita had her painting done in oil and unfortunately our Layla recently died of cancer but to look at our Teddy, you just gotta understand why this little bear-like doggie MUST have his very own portrait. He is even willing to share a portrait of himself with his sister Pita and Layla on Cloud 9. Thanks for listening. Love all of us to all of you of Dogster, Catster and beyond!

  119. Tracy Spring

Patch found us when she was about one year old. We had a cocker at the time so were already partial to the breed. She’s black and white and attracts attention wherever we go together, which is everywhere we can. About two months ago she had some health concerns and I thought we would have to say good bye. She’s twelve but her health is great. I think she’ll be with us for a good while longer. She’ll probably be my last because she’s so perfect in almost every way and no other could compare. A portrait of her would be cherished in our household forever.

  120. sonja

    Good luck!
    Love, sonja

  121. Cokie

I get warm fuzzies when I look at your PAWSOME paintings!!! I would love to suggest that you think about painting my furiends Buttercup or Miss Dixie Monroe. Both little sweethearts are very deserving and would be most appreciative of your hard work. They both have very sweet mommies who do so many wonderful things for all of us fluffs at dogster. Thank you so very much!
    Hugs Cokie Nyce
P.S. Two Paws Up Fur Being So Nyce!!!

  122. Erin Tucker

What amazing artwork! I would loveto have a painting done of my Bull Terrier, Sherman. He is a rescue Bullie, and had an extremely rough start. He is 50 pounds now, but was only 28 pounds when he came into our house. He has rebounded, and is such an amazing dog!

Unfortunatly, Sherman has been diagnosed with Mast Cell cancer. We have had the primary tumor removed, but the cancer cells are in his lymph system. He does not have long for this world, and we would sure love to have something wonderful to remember him by.

Thanks so much for considering us, have a great day!

  123. kasha

wow what a talented lady she is

i would love a photo of my baby Casper he is only 16 months old and has already survived 2 heart surgeries for a rare heart disease called pulmonic stenosis… i would love to have a painting of him because he is a true survivor….

  124. Deb Gebhardt

What a wonderful remembrance of your bf. My little girl is my heart and soul, I always find it so sad that they are with us such a short time. I cannot envision life without my Brandy. I think this is a prize any pup owner would be delighted to receive

  125. Rebel

Oh, I would love for you to do a portrait of my baby, Rebel. He is my world, and the portrait would hang in a place of honor in our home..
    Carol and Rebel

  126. Susan

I believe Cody would be a perfect subject for a portrait. His personality shines through on his face and in his eyes–fun-loving, people-loving, mischievous, yet anxious to please. All of these qualities can easily be seen, even in photographs–it would be a fun challenge to capture them in paint. Also, being a mix, he is absolutely unique–beautifully proportioned and attention grabbing, but not like any other dog.

With our new (human) baby on the way, it would be wonderful to have a portrait of Cody to display along side the other baby pictures…he is and will always be our best fur baby.
