Win A Copy Of The Pet Trust Guide

Last week I posted an article, Beauregard’s Bounty, about Kenneth Munzert who generously left over $800,000 to the SPCA of Richmond, Virginia. The animal charity was chosen because officials had earlier pledged to protect Beauregard if he should die first.
Most of us worry about losing our dog, we don’t give much thought about what would happen if we were to die before our dog. No one ever wants to think about their own mortality, but think about how you would feel if your dog was taken to a shelter because you were gone and no earlier provisions had been made.
Debby Carman, you’ll remember she generously donated handmade dog bowls and a treat jar for some recent contests, has a new book I want to share with you.
For Debby’s latest book she collaborated with lawyer Kimberly Adams Colgate on a subject that’s important to all of us here at Dogster, pet trusts.
The Pet Plan and Pet Trust Guide combines whimsical illustrations with practical need to know information. It’s a “how to” legal plan for your pet’s future security incorporating the newest and latest laws to secure your pets future well being.
I ordered a copy of the book and was very pleased when I received it. The book contains important legal information, but it’s written in a way that anyone can understand. It’s easy to read, easy to follow, and will help you create a plan in the event you are gone for a day, a week or forever.
We are giving away one copy of The Pet Plan and Pet Trust Guide, truly an invaluable resource to protect your pet’s future. To win just leave a comment in the comment section sharing why you would like a copy. The contest will run today through Tuesday, April 14th when I will choose one lucky winner.
If you would like to order yourself a copy you can do so at Debby’s site, the book will begin shipping on April 15th. Or at A Pet’s World, an online pet store that offers an array of great dog products. Including the owner’s line of pet clothing, collars, and airline carriers and totes. Plus, if you place an order over $30 you will receive a FREE gift. Visit their website for all the details of the offer.

Wow. My husband and I were just talking about wills and such. I’d love a copy of this because maybe it would help to keep all of my babies together. One of my biggest fears is that we will die and then our kids will get sent to different homes, or worse yet, shelters. I know my kids are a bit high maintenance. But I also know that if they had to eat kibble they would, but if they were not with each other they might just die. Last year we took Daisy Mae with us to Buda Texas for a wiener race event. She was recovering from back surgery and I didn’t trust her with anyone else. Well, she seemed to be doing fine but, well she would not eat with out her brothers!! We even left the event a day early to get her home!! So see, separating my kids would be the worse.
I do hope that none of this would be a reality but it is something we should all prepare for.
This would be of such great help to me. I have 3 furkids. I am single with no family left. I have worried so about what would happen to my dogs if I go first. I want to do everything I can to make sure they do NOT end up in a shelter or a bad home. I have been thinking about seeing a lawyer. If I could do it on my on, this would be great. I just have no idea where to start. Great offer and post!!
I would like a copy because, I have no family to care for my pets if I should go first. I have 3 very loving and committed dogs. I was recently away from them due to a mini stroke. I spent 2 nights in the hospital> My friend Janet and her husband did go by and feed them and let them in the evening. Then settling them in for the night. But if I was to die, I worry that they would end up being seperated and maybe even sent to the local pound. I’d hate to think of that happening. I have no money but my life insurance to keep them. I think it is like 34000. Of course what was left after my burial and bills would not be enough to keep them. So I would like a copy to arrange for my pets care if I should go first. It is pretty much me and them except for a close firend or two. I want them to be taken of as if they were my children, they my babies.
I was very affected by the article on the Pet Trusts and did a little research. (I work in a Public Library) I found some information but a book like this would be very useful – to me and to others who want to make sure their beloved pets are taken care of. I have known some older people who “have had their last pet” because of the fears of what might happen to it after they are gone. I can’t stand the idea of my fading years forcing me to live without the affection of a pet.
I plan to suggest the purchase of this book to my library. All those who do not win, consider asking your public library to purchase it. In most cases Librarians welcome suggestions!
Thanks, Dogster!
What a great resource for every pet owner. I know nobody likes to think about this stuff, but it’s important. You would make provisions for your furless children so why not your dogs. Not everyone has a family that would take their dogs in case of an emergency. This sounds like a great book to have.
I have 3 dogs and 3 cats and I’ve been thinking about this lately. I plan to keep rescuing animals as long as I am physically able to take care of them, but as we all know, we could go at any time, and I want to make sure my animals don’t end up back in shelters.
not having any children, my animals are my main concern. leaving them behind when i pass is of great concern. i believe all pet lovers worry about this. thank you for sharing about this book.
Some provisions have been made for animals that live on our farm. We have asked that our livestock (pets-llama,emu,etc.) not be auctioned there should be enough $ to keep them until homes can be found. It would be so helpful to know what more we should or could do, our beloved doxie trio is so important to us we would hope that family or friends would keep them together. The truth is you never know…how scary.
oh remember when that happened. it was nice
I’d love a copy of the book because I’m still young as is Morgan, but having experienced a lot of loss in my life I know that a person can go at any moment. I want to be able to plan for Morgan’s future in case he outlives me. Especially since I know some of my family members probably wouldn’t want to take him in despite how much they love him.
We’ve thought about this and my children and I know we keep each others pets. Luckily my kids are as animal crazy as I am.
I would love to have a copy of this book! My dogs are my only children. I’m almost 100% positive if anything happened to me my Mom would make sure all my boys were taken care of.
However about ten years ago my entire family (boyfriend included) went on a huge family vacation. I was so worried about my babies at the time. I made a co-worker who was also a fellow dog lover promise me that if anything were to happen to me and I or more family didn’t make it home alive that she would find good homes for my babies. I just couldn’t relax until I knew that was taken care of. And I’m really not afraid of flying usually I just knew for some reason I should cover that area cuz you never know.
That is exactly what this book would provide for you…satisfaction and preparedness for the unknown.
Thank you for thinking of it!
Well Daddy and Mommy are not spring chickens!
I know that id fany thing happened to them that I would be taken care of!
Its a book that i know they would want to read.
Bella
Our Mom works for an attorney so this would be great information to pass along to the clients! After all, we’re family too!
My mom thinks about this stuff all of the time. I can be a naughty dog, so she’d definitely have to pay someone to keep me!
It is easy to try to avoid this issue, but not wise.
I, as a dog, just want to thank you from the bottom of my doggie heart for raising awareness about this most important issue.
This is a very urgent subject especially in these trying times when even the best intentioned are strapped to help out. A good reminder to start getting things in order and certainly hope none of us need to put them into effect.
Wow, plans for me if something happens to mommy.
I just read 17 comments that have been posted to Dogster’s, and I must say, they all brought tears to my eyes.
As the author of the Pet Plan and Pet Trust Guide I want to thank each one of you for taking the time to post a comment.
Your thoughts convey better than I could why I wrote the book. You will be even more thrilled when you see the unbelievable illustrations created by Debby Carman.
We both thank you and hope you will all enjoy the book!
