IAMS Giving Away A $250 Gift Basket

The kind folks at IAMS have put together a $250 gift basket for one of our Dogster members to win. In November I did an article about their 10th annual Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive. Their goal was to find loving, lifelong homes for more than 1 million orphaned dogs and cats through the participation of 3,000 organizations.
In January I was thrilled to announce that they not only met their goal, they surpassed it.
One Million Eighty-Eight Thousand, Five Hundred and Six Pets have found forever homes since we started this event on October 1st, 2008!
Besides their charity work, IAMS has lots of great dog food products, one to meet all your pet’s nutritional needs. They work hard to guarantee the quality and safety of their products.
Constant, Rigorous Ingredient Inspections
All of our ingredients are evaluated based on strict nutritional quality and safety specifications. These standards must be in place for all ingredients in order to protect against potential quality gaps. For example, in the case of molds, no one grain comes with mold. It can occur in any grain. It is the quality assurance standards a company performs during the manufacturing process that determine if molds are present or if the conditions exist to produce them.
They even have a four week unconditional guarantee, you can try their product and if not completely satisfied get your money back. More importantly, they’re offering a really cool basket of goodies for us to give away.
You can win a basket which includes: Iams dog food and dog supplies (collar, retractable leash, disposable bags, brush, toys, etc.). The best part of the package, however, is that it will include a donation of two Kuranda (http://kuranda.com/catalog/select_donee.php) dog beds to an Iams Home 4 the Holidays shelter of the winner’s choice.
The contest starts today and runs through Sunday, March 1 when I will randomly choose one winner. To enter just leave a comment in the comment section sharing something about your pup, anything at all. For example, we took Bo to a friends house once and all of a sudden we heard a snapping noise. He had gone into the pantry, where the dog food was kept in a plastic tub, unsnapped the lid and had his entire head immersed in the container.

When we are all together as a family we have 5 dogs. One day after being gone, we came in and all of them were in a circle looking at each other. We think they just put the deck of cards away when they heard our cars!
My Belgian Malinois, Fancy, is a SERIOUS chowhound and once I came home to the box of her senior pet vitamin pouches open on the floor surrounded by all the empty pouches which had been opened and all the (liver flavored) vitamins eaten. It just amused me to no end that she actually tore open each packet to eat the vitamins without accidentally ingesting any of the plastic packet wrappings. She did the same once with a bag of tootsie roll pops, I came home to an empty bag and a huge pile of the sticks and wrappers.
My daughter will be moving in with us, along with her three children, dog, and cat. The dog and cat has already moved in. Our dog is not sure if he likes sharing the attention with his new friends… but, he is willing to give it a try… especially since we have gotten the new guy to play tug of war with him.
I was washing dishes this morning and looked down at the furkids playing and thought that I saw a bunch of blood,, it scared me to death, then I realized they had gotten into these things called fruit freezes, you quessed it they were strawberry.oH WELL , i LOVE GREY HAIR.
My Lhasa Apso, Sneakers loves to chase away birds. We e\live in Florida, where some of them are quite large. Size doesn’t impress him in terms of motorcycles either. He only chases the biggest ones from his extension leash.
My whippets can get into anything. I left them at a friends house while we ran to the grocery store. In 30 minutes indy had managed to tear open the unopened bad of dog food and spill it all over the floor. He had also opened the tub of dog treats that was supposed to be childproof. Childproof yes, whippet proof no!
When my husband and I leave the house our Border Collie, Harley tries to herd us so we do not leave. When we get back he has had his own party! Pillows off the couch and in the floor and all the beds messed up like he has taken a nap in each one. When we open the door he is in his bed like I have been so good while you were gone!
I love to run to the gate and wait to go to school every morning. I get to drop of my favorite friend and watch her walk to class and then ride back home with the window all the way down and watch all the other kids walk to school. They stare at me alot and laught so I guess a bullgog hangng out a car window with his lips flapping is cute.
Buster, my Boston Terrier, loves to try and fit in with the cats (all three of them). He’ll follow them around the house and when they try to do some feat of acrobatics he’ll try to do the same. For example, when one of the cats walks across the back of the sofa he tries to do it too. Usually he ends up falling in the cushions.
Last summer, I was outside planting some liriope around the boarder of my fence. The heat was unbearable so I stopped to take a break and have a sip of water. That’s when I noticed it. SAMSON had gone behind me and pulled out all the plants I had just planted!
I have been friends with Carol for almost ten years…last year she celebrated her dog Vito’s one year birthday and i took my then two month old shih-tzu…this past weekend, she threw him a 2 year old birthday party and my one year old Riley was allowed to run around with all the other shih-tzus =)
They were both pooped…and slept through the whole night!
Chili, my 6-1/2 year old Vizsla spent yesterday afternoon greeting everyone who walked past our house. She loves to stop pets and their owners and visit. My neighbors have nicknamed her “Ms Socialite”!
We three are all very lucky dogs. Mama got Savvy and brought her home in November of 2006. Then Samoa was adopted in December 2007. And just a little more than a year later, Dubs joined us in January 2009.
Three dogs eat a lot, and Mama is always trying to make sure we are happy! We eat Iams sometimes, and we would like to eat MORE of it.
Dubs also needs a collar, so that would be a great prize.
But best of all, we would LOVE to help out by winning and getting the doggie beds donated to one of the local shelters, who helped find us our wonderful home.
Love, the Bell Pack!
My sweetie Saint Mudge has the best internal clock of any dog I’ve ever had. He “reminds” me when it’s time to take the kids to school (cuz that’s walk time!), what time to give him his afternoon meal, what time to give him his evening meds (he’s epileptic and gets pills in peanut butter), and what time to give him dinner
Such a smart boy…or is it just his tummy talking???
My 2 Great Danes love Iams! My husband accidentally bought the wrong brand so now I’m literally forced to go back to the store and buy them their Iams Large Breed Dog Food because they’re very sad today and have gone on a hunger strike until they get their Iams. They really know how to put me on a guilt trip.
My Husband and I go over to our friends house for dinner on sunday nights. They always tell us to bring sanford. They have two dogs up north and think that they really miss them. So sanford is their Doggie fix. They feed him his own plate of steak, then Sanford goes to sleep on our friends lap while we are sitting outside having desert and talking.
Remington loves carrots. He will go into the garden and dig them up. He will dig one up eat it, and then move to the next one. Ping likes to pull the tomatoes off the vine and play ball with them.
We have five dogs! We have one Brusells Griffon and four pugs. It is a very busy house with the dogs and five kids. Feeding time is always fun and crazy. The dogs sure know the sound of their food being poured into the bowls. They run slide and hit walls getting to the kitchen. They are so ready to eat that it’s hard putting the bowls down. They eat so fast it’s surprising to me that they tast anything at all! iams is the best and they can’t get enough of it.
Laney’s favorite toys are actually pig ears. She takes them in her mouth, tosses them in the air, and chases them when they roll away. After she’s done playing with them, she sits and chews them till they’re down to a small circle.
The odd couple – Noah is an 8 lb Toy Fox Terrier and his best bud is a 85 lb Boxer named Lincoln. Pretty funny to see them play together, Noah is totally the boss. We introduced them with Noah was a tiny little puppy. And what was the first thing he did to Lincoln? Went straight up to his face and pulled a treat right out of his mouth.
My 12 year old Beagle, Mia makes sure she never misses breakfast by pawing at me and howling if I sleep a minute past 8am.
My 3 year old mix is SO routine oriented. My husband’s new job in the Army requires him to work the strangest hours. Just a few nights ago he had to get up for work at 3am. My dog, Aislinn, was so annoyed at her routine being interrupted, that she growled at him when he got up and then whined to be put in bed next to me before he left.
Penny is a Wheaten Terrier. She was rescued from Juarez, Mexico, by a rescue group called Compassion Without Borders. This group partners with another rescue group, Small Dog Rescue, which is a nonprofit group headed by a wonderful woman named Kathy Klages. I guess I really lucked out by getting a real Wheaten Terrier. She may be mixed with another breed, but I don’t think so. She looks just like and has all of the traits of the Wheaten Terrier. We love her more each day!
Dad does transport for several rural shelters. They had no money when time were good, and less the next time they do budgets. I’d donate the beds to one of those shelters and much of the prize stuff too.
I have two great dogs, Champ a 6 year old Golden Retriever and Pugsly a 4 year old Pug.
Some random facts are……
-Pugsly has been pet my Leonardo Dicaprio!
-I used to have an awesome mix…a Rottweiler mixed with we’re guesssing…Dachshund! Because of his short stubby legs and long body.
-Pugsly caught a fly in his mouth the other day!
I always get a treat when I come in from outside. My grandmom let me out today, and when I came in I figured out how to open the lid on my treat bucket. I helped myself to the treats!
Sydney is a dalmatian we happened upon at a shelter. We weren’t planning on another dog, but it happened. She may be smaller than average, but she has the biggest heart ever! She became a therapy dog and loves everyone. She also plays agility, and has ranked the past several years in the top 10 AKC. She’s also been invited to the AKC Invitational 2 years in a row, but loved playing in the sand and chasing the birds more than anything.
My Blue Dobbie had horrible allergies. I started her on Iams several years before she passed away. Iams with raw eggs seemed to help her coat through the winter allergy season!
My Pharaoh Hound, who has a gurgling stomach on most foods, is now on a bland diet of Iams and cottage cheese! Stomach and bladder seemed to be much better contained.
Thanks Iams. We tried other brands, and your brand has been a blessing to our paw family!
Ty loves to eat. She gets oil, eggs, and rice with her meal everyday to keep her coat soft and her belly full!
I have 3 dogs, two which I adopted from shelters. Buster, my oldest loves the flavor of mint. He will steal gum from my purse when I am not looking. One day we were visiting my Mom and Dad. My Dad had laid down on the couch to nap. We heard a noise coming from the living room and found Buster chewing on something. When I called his name, he looked up and had my Dad’s false teeth in his mouth, he looked like he had a big smile on his face. Dad’s had been chewing gum and his teeth smelled minty. He had taken them out of his mouth while he was sleeping and Buster decided to try them out. It was definately a “Kodac” moment.
I have a pug named Daisy. She is the sweetest angel you have ever met. She is a puppymill survivor. She is wonderful Girl and brings a smile to everyones face that she meets. I am thankful she has allowed me to care for and love her.
Poor Hershey is outnumbered by cats, 4 to 1. While he wants nothing more than to play with them, the cats know that he’s no threat to them. They’ll even waltz right up to his food bowl and start to nibble from it, with Hershey standing by and whining as they give him the most smug of looks! It’s definitely a dog’s life.
I have two adopted dogs that LOVE to eat. They will eat anything you give them. I also have two (actually one now..the other is at the Rainbow Bridge) purebred dogs that are very picky about what they eat. My conclusion is that when you adopt a dog for some reason they are forever grateful to have access to food at all times. Maybe they think that one day they will be homeless again so they will take whatever you give them. Who knows?!
Anyway, one of my adopted dogs is always so happy to have his regular food in the morning. When I’m scooping it out of the container on the little scooper he has to stick his head in the container and eat a couple chunks off the scooper first. He just can’t wait until it gets in his bowl. It’s so adorable! He always appears to be a bit mischievious about it too. What a little devil.
Our 2 dogs are fasinated by the new home construction going on in the lot beside ours. I thought they would be afraid of the big earthmovers, but they just want to chase them.
Abby our wonderful great dane is turning 1 on the 7th of March. She is the best puppy ever, living with 5 cats she is truly demonstrates the breed reputation as a gentle giant. She even shares her beds and couch with them and once in a while she even lets her human owners stretch out.
Bandit is our 8 year old pitbull mix. He is an absolute angel!! His best friends are our 2 pugs, 1 year old Moose and 7 month old Bean!! It’s sooo fun to watch a big 90lb guy playing with 2 little guys, especially when they play tug of war!!
Both Tara and Miguel love IAMS Proactive Health for toy and small breed dogs! Miguel use to be a picky eater until we got Tara and IAMS. Now he runs to eat his food before Tara can eat his, too. We also put the kibble in a kibble ball to stretch out dinner time and make it more fun. For snack time, we put some kibble in a small Kong with a fat baby carrot in the end and they have a great time chewing on the carrot to get to their kibble treat.
One week ago today my little girl Dustie had 3 babies. We named the Billie
Bobbie
and Betty – Joe
Dustie is such a good mom being so loving and attentiveto her babies. The little baby noises and genuine cuteness of mother and daughters, definatly needs some acknowledgement.
Way to go Dustie.Iams may be the food of choice for my babies.Do you have any special formula for lactating moms ?
I love feeding shayne carrots and pieces of apples…..when she bites into them it’s the same sound as a child biting into a popsicle…. such a great sound!!!
We have a total of 4 dogs and 3 kids in our house.
Karma is a black lab/ german shepard mix. The kids call her Nana as she takes care of them. She even grooms them! Alley is a cattle dog mix we picked up from a shelter. Very sweet. She has a serious case of wiggle-butt any time we walk in the door! Very sweet! Next is Captain Jack, he is our Aussie…..but he is nothing like an Aussie at all. No herding, he is the biggest chicken you’ve ever seen! He actually likes to be carried like a baby! Especially at the dog park if he gets chased, people laugh so hard when I finally pick him up and carry him! Needless to say, since he isn’t really “a Captain” my husband kind of dubbed him Snurfles which is much more fitting! Then we have Sirius, he was at a shelter for over 6 long months. He is a chow/black lab mix and nobody wanted him. We actually considered adopting him when we adopted our other dog Alley, but because he was part chow and we have kids I said No. We did go through some very special training with him as he grew up in a cage at the shelter and he had aggresion isuues as he was beaten severly as a puppy and has permanent scars in his ears, and he was terrified of men, but was it worth it! He is my sweet boy now, and follows me around as if I were made of peanut butter and steak! My husband calls him my boyfriend! He also like to gently bite us on our butts!!!! We call him BB for short.
But-Biter! I love the idea of dog beds for shelters. Both of our shelter dogs have scarred elbows from laying on concrete for so long! Poor babies!
Darby has this uncanny ability to know when i get a package of cheese out of the refrigerator! As soon as he hears me open it, he’s right by my side within seconds, even if he was sound asleep! And yes…he only does it when it’s the cheese i’m opening…i’ve tried it with various different packages of other things and he doesn’t pay any attention to those!!
Savannah, a rescue dog will be getting a new roommate soon. I think Savannah is an Aussie. She just turned up on the doorstep one day. I never could find her owner, so she was welcomed to the family. Her new roomate is going to be a retired hunting dog. I don’t know much about hunting dogs, so not sure what she is. Bigger than a Beagle, but looks a lot like a Beagle. She is very skinny from all the miles she has run, but we hope to give her a better life now.
We’ve been fostering shelter dogs for a little over one year. The permanent residents of the household read much like Noah’s ark-2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 humans. Each new foster addition brings it own delightful surprises. The last foster we had (a 2-year-old Great Pyranese mix that was adopted 2 weeks ago) became fast friends with our 3-year-old Amstaff mix. They’d play bow then run all over the backyard. Our newest foster addition, a 5-month-old shepherd/collie mix, arrived yesterday and is already buddies with our 6-month-old kitten. They are so much fun to watch as they take turns chasing each other through the house.
We have three dogs, 2 hunting dogs and my baby Brewster a mini schnauzer. Brewster wakes up in the morning so happy it is almost obnoxious but also contagious. His only vice is he likes to steal food if left unattended on the table. My son has lost many tidbits to his good friend.
A Pennie Dog’s work is never done. This morning Little Lad went off to school leaving his stuffed animals laying all over the floor, in a giant mess. Normally, Nannie Pennie must spend her day caring for the Wee Lass, but today she has created a Pennie Nest, and is laying amidst the giant mess of stuffed animals and blankets and comforter. I supposed she feels that she is attending to yet another set of “charges” or substitute pups.
I’ve been training my basset hound, Lady, to “play dead” in reward for a treat. But something’s not quite right. She has started assuming the “playing dead” positiong anytime we are eating now, assuming she will get a treat for doing it, even though we didn’t ask. That stinker! =)
Sully (Pembroke Welsh Corgi) and I just started training for Open! He is getting really excited about the dumbbell because we are using the clicker retrieve method and he LOVES clicker work! So far, he’s tooth bumping but I can feel a strong mouthing/grasping coming up soon in the next week or so! I am so proud of my shy little guy who didn’t even know how to play with toys when he first came to us, now he’s getting ready for traditional retrieve work!
You wouldn’t know it to look at me ;-> but IAMS a chow hound (BOL)
We have 2 rescue dogs, an 80 pound Pit/Lab mix and an 8 pound Rat Terrier. No matter how may times they play tug-o-war the little one still has not learned that the big one can pull her off the couch with the rope toy. Little B still tries with all her might to pull Jordan up on to the couch with her. Gotta love the spirit in the little fighters!
When I get up in the morning to get ready for work, my dog Graham gets up along with me. But instead of following me around he jumps into bed and snuggles next to my husband. It is so adorable, my hunnie either hugs him in or Graham gets between his legs and props his head up to keep an eye on me. Then when it’s time for me to leave, Graham slowly slides his front legs off the bed, leaving his hind legs still on then goes into a deep stretch. This pup is not a morning person.
I just won 3rd place for best trick, this past Saturday at the Pet Expo. I am so proud of my owner.
Its gotten very cold I windy here again. Finishing up my Dogster rounds I called it a night and was headed to bed thinking Darla was in my sons room. I sat down on bed and put my hand back to pull covers down. I find not my pillows but Darla’s soft & comfy furball self curled up between them.
)
Meili, my 3 month old shih tzu has been having a heck of a time learning to “lay down”. Well, last night, she finally did it all on her own without being bribed with a treat! Her mommy couldn’t be prouder that she is finally learning! YAY!
I have had my 2 dogs for 9 years and we added a husky/lab pup about a year ago – we named her Mocha but after a few months we figured out we named her wrong – it should have either been Wild Child or Terror on Paws! She gets into this wild mode (eyes turns red!) and will just tear around the LR – not in a tight circle but to the max allowed in the room! It is hilarious. She will also crawl up on the back of the couch and has decided that is a good place to lay – we have a couch with big pillow type cushions. Good thing we love her! She has brought back some of the youth my 10 yo lab was losing and has made her more active again.
)
I have been feeding my pups Iams for awhile now, and my little Pomeranian goes nuts when I am getting the food ready. She grabs a stuffed toy and starts shaking it and growling until the food is ready. It is so funny!!
My son has a service dog named Charlie who has completely changed his life. This morning my husband got up in the middle of the night for a drink of water and then went to check on our son. A state of panic ensued when he realized he wasn’t in his bed. After a few HARRIED moments of looking room to room, he stopped in his tracks when he found our son and his dog Charlie snoozing peacefully together on Charlie’s dog bed.
One time we left in a hurry to catch a movie and left our dishes and so forth on the coffee table. When we returned, we noticed the butter dish was empty, even though we put a brand new stick out for dinner that evening.
Our Rottweiler Nikki ate the whole stick, I guess she thought butter was a good thing!
Tiger my Canine Assistance Dog is such a comfort to me and now my 83 yr old mom. Mom lives with me and had a stroke 15 months ago, she needs a lot of help getting ready for bed at night. While I assist mom, Tiger waits patiently untill I fix mom’s covers then she looks at me and I tell her Paws UP. With that she put her front feet up on the bed and gives mom her version of a Good Night Wish!. Mom tells Tiger every night what a good dog she is. This interaction seems to mean a lot to mom.
We’ve got 5 rescued dogs from a 10# weiner to our 80# weimer. They love their pet cats (also rescues) but are still great watch dogs. Couldn’t do without them – even with all the hair they generate.
My boxer, Wiz, loves spring. He can’t wait to find all the little creatures that emerge each year as the snow melts. He has found several bunnies, some baby birds, squirrels, two woodchucks(not very friendly ones I might add) and a possum. We have the only fenced in backyard in the neighborhood and 4 large dogs, but still they manage to pick our yard to visit.
First off, we just switched Aspen to Iams Smart Puppy ProActive and he loves it! Aspen is a 3 month old Boxer/Lab mix that was a rescue at 5 weeks old because his mother was hit. We got him at 6 weeks old with many feeding issues and he was a skinny runt. He is now 21 pounds and a very, happy, healthy spoiled puppy!
Our master bedroom has french doors to the back yard. There was a jacaranda tree in the middle of the yard that 3 fat white winged doves would visit under everyday. I would watch these doves from the bedroom. We had 4 Basenjis for our pets. I would come home everyday for lunch and sometimes see the doves scratching under the tree and then I would be greeted by the dogs. One day when I came home, something told me to walk under the tree. When I got to the tree, there on the ground, in the grass, I found a tuft of feathers from a white winged dove. I went around the corner of the house. There stood all the dogs. One of them innocent as ever. She looked up at me with her beady black eyes, her ears were back, and she had a smile on her face. Not to mention one tiny feather hanging from her lip. I looked at her stomach and I could see stretch marks in her fur. I found the guilty party and never saw the doves again.
We have 4 dogs, and Lu was the boss of them all. Lu
was very loving to us, but I nick-named her Lucifer, if
you know what I mean. Whenever I would go in the
backyard to do some gardening, only Lu would come out to supervise what I was doing. I learned from experience that I must acknowledge Lu. In the past, when Lu came out, I just continued to do my gardening and ignored her, Lu would try to steal my tools, and even go so far as digging up my plants that were freshly planted, doing anything she could to get my attention. She would sit beside me to watch what I was doing, and I learned to conference her in on my work so she wouldn’t make a mess of my gardening anymore.
My Sasha, a rescue from the local humane society, is such a sweetheart. When I first saw her, she laid her chin in my hands and gazed into my face and I knew she was my new best friend.
Aaahhhh Cody! Just where do we begin??? Cody is a comical, CRAZY boxer. He act more like a 6-mo. old puppy than going on six! Outside he is a complete MANIAC. Cody is a fun dog but usually in some kind of TROUBLE. His latest antics were destroying 2 entire bags of mulch. Cody had mulch coming out his mouth, ears, & nose.
Cody suffers from COPD (COMPULSIVE OBSESSIVE POPPING DISORDER). Balls of any kind are usually popped within seconds!!! It’s MINE MINE All MINE!!! You can dress-up Cody in anything and he is easy to pose. Did we mention Cody likes to HEADBUTT HUMANS???
Cody is so fascinated with kids on wheels we had to get him his OWN SKATEBOARD! Does he skate? – NO! What he does is carry the skateboard in his mouth & toss it wherever he pleases. He’ll pounce on it too just for dramatics. Cody is the happiest dog at the dog park. He gives the best boxer kisses around – SLURP!!! We have nicknamed him “CODY CRACK CORN AND I DON’T CARE!”
Cody is FOR REAL. You can check him out here: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/186760.
Pepper is one of my 3 Chinese Crested Hairless dogs. Pepper has always loved to chew. In her puppy days, she did chew up some furniture and other household items. She is now 11 years old and limits her chewing to stuffed toys. I hunt for the cheap toys in bargain bins, because she takes little time to pull all the stuffing out of her toys. Most days the couch and floor are covered in fluff.
We are 7 dogs but Beau the papillon is our newest addition. 7lbs of fun, his feet hardly ever touch the ground. He’s a great escape artist & able to leap tall dogs in a single bound … well almost. Chance is a little on the tall side & sometimes he can’t quite make it all the way over.
My dog, Beanster, a toy poodle, spent a week kayaking in Florida this past January. He had a ball, and came home and wouldn’t even look at my other dogs that were left at home!
Miracle was a special dog I rescued last year (Feb 27th), but left me too soon on Aug. 19th after being diagnosed with AIHA on the 13th of August. She was the sweetest girl I’ve ever had and she stole my heart immediately then took a piece of it with her when she crossed Rainbow Bridge. Bless my sweet Angel! I will always love Miracle.
Ziggy’s new favorite treat is a chunk of honeydew melon. He does his Jack Russell crazy dance when I bring the box out of the fridge. If I take one first, he growls at me and nudges my leg with his nose. If I pretend to not notice, he lets out a big disgusted huff. If I laugh, he huffs again.
the best part of my day is when we get home- destry is my service dog- and he gets “undressed” and runs to the fence to run with my horse. my horse waits for him when we get home to do this.
My three rescue dogs are the things that keep us laughing since our only daughter went off to college. We have one who tore her ACL and is having surgery this thursday…one with a cyst on her behind who will have surgery before May and the third who, god willing, won’t need anything! Between college and surgeries… I am happy for the smiles they give us every day!
Lottie gets her best sleep in the car. At home, she’s a helper girl, busy body, and always on guard. But, once she gets into her car seat, she can sleep for hours at a time.
I adopted a black pug by the name of Pugsley last year from a rescue in NC. He has been such an amazing dog. He has filled my heart with love. I have provided him with a forever home that he is thrilled to be in. This lead me to help the rescue show other pugs that they have a second chance in life. The fosters and my own have help fill a void in the house since the children have moved on with there adult lives.
Rudy, our variety hound mix, loves when we have foster kittens in the house.
In the mornings, he won’t go out, or eat, or do anything at all, until he checks in on them & gives them each a bath & thorough sniffing! He would have made such a good mother =)
I do Bulldog rescue and one of our fosters Tucker was a favorite of my husbands. He said we should keep him but I said if we keep our fosters we will have to stop fostering because we have too many dogs. Well I found what I thought was a great home for Tucker but it turns out one of the dogs in the new house didn’t like him so he came back. Once again my husband said lets keep him and once again I said no, we can find him a great home and off he went. This time he didn’t like the cat in the family and back he came. Well guess what, he is here to stay, it was meant to be and now Tucker and his daddy are best of friends.
I have four dogs. One can open windows and doors if they don’t latch she is our shepard mix.One is a cattle dog mix who likes to go for rides and look for cows and llama’s.Our other cattle dog play’s with milk jugs and hates for the kids to fight and will grab their arms if they try to hit each other, and the last one is our doxie puppy she is smaller than the others but she doesn’t let that stop her she get’s up in their face and they can’t help but play with her.
hi i have a lab and a pomeranain and have always used Iams food. we just had to put are father inlaws lab down this past monday it was the hardest thing but hes in a better place and he gave my boys a great 12 yrs of playing and my lab sadie use to go over and have a doggie night with him and now she lost him
All my life i dreamed of owning an English bulldog and my family was well aware of the fact. You can imagine how thrilled I was when just before my twenty fith birthday my parents told me thay had found a breeder and would pay for half of the pup. It was almost magical the way things worked out. I am also a huge pittsburgh steelers fan and I got my dog right before the 2005 season. I decided to name my dog Bettis in honer of my favorite player who was going to retire at the end of the season. The steelers ended up winning the superbowl in my home town of detroit and I got the greatest dog i have ever owned.
Since I got my first dog I have alwase dreamed of one day owning an animal shelter. Not just any animal shelter. It will be one for all the dogs and cats who don’t usually get adopted, such as the abused and agresive, the old or the sick. this place will not only be a shelter, it will be a home. A popular name for a shelter is something like second chance but what if they need more then that? I am hoping to provide a home for unwanted animals everywhere and give them all the opertunities they need.
Our Australian Shepherd puppy has a great nose for earthworms. At first, we thought Finn just enjoyed snacking on grass. Then one day we called his name and he looked up at us and he had an earthworm hanging out of the corner of his mouth as if he was eating spaghetti. Very gross but also kind of funny.
I have 8 dogs, 4 are crated when we leave the house. One dog, Jolie a yorkie/ poodle mix has learned to open the crates and let the dogs out so she can eat their food. There were many times I came home and found all the dogs running all over the house and blamed my family. Only did I realize it was her when I saw her open the one to eat his food. Now there is a heavy clamp on the cage door and a divider up to the kitchen so she cant go inside when we’re gone. she will do anything to get extra food.
When it’s meal time, Perry runs to his bowl, but doesn’t just gulp down the food. First, he carefully takes out some kibble, runs over to his mat, and drops it. Then he lines up 3 kibbles (always 3) on the mat and eats the rest. When the kibble from his bowl is gone, he’ll hang out on the mat and look at the 3 kibbles for a while, then finally eats them.
Perry lines up other things in 3s. He has a plush turtle with 3 squeaky eggs that go inside. Perry removes the eggs, brings them to the lounge chair on the porch, lines them up, and goes to sleep!
I am a dog groomer at a large pet store chain, there have been many dogs that are brought in that no one wants(thats how I got so many) anyway Chrissy the shih tzu was never picked up after grooming so I took her home with me. she was tiny and frail only weighing $4Lbs. when I took her. In 7 days she gained almost 5 Lbs. she has had numerous problems with her ears. she was a great dog before but now she recently had surgery to remove her ear drums and canals which left her deaf. But the great part is that she is happier and pain freeand is learning sign language. she really didn’t listen much before and even though she can’t hear she is more responsive than before, I call her my miracle baby, she is also completly blind in her right eye and losing the sight in her left. she is only almost 7 years old. she was blind when I took her. She is a great little dog.and I love her with all my heart.
Fuzzy was adopted from a beagle rescue and we brought her home as a puppy, we were her first (and forever) home. From the beginning, she has savored each meal, lingering over it and eating slowly. Even now, she will get a bite from her bowl, bring it into the other room, slowly chew it, and then just wait awhile (sometimes a long time) before strolling back to her bowl to carefully select her next bite. Our gourmet girl!
Zoto was rescued from a shelter in Arkansas while my son was driving me on a trip west to Arizona. Now Zoto loves to travel. The only problem is he was a lap puppy then and now he is a little bit bigger. He probably has a little Schnauzer in him, but the rest is unknown!! Smart and fun, sweet and brave, What a treasure !!
Gracie, our rescued shih tzu, is such a loving, funny puppy. She is over one year old, but she still seems like a puppy to us (she is the youngest and smallest of our three dogs). It amazes me that an animal can start life in one of those terrible puppy mills, and still turn out so full of life and love. Dogs are so incredibly wonderful!!!
My papillon, Sable, is such a great dog. She just turned two back in December. She is such a delight to have and own.
I thought rescue dogs were grateful and thankful and that a special bond existed between them and their adoptive family. Well, that’s not the case for our endearing Pointer:
He is a rambunctious teenager, who puts up with cuddles, obedience lessons and heeling (if he must) but would rather be free to sniff and anoint this wonderful world. Somehow he’s a lot like the human teenagers growing up in this family….
My lab mix, Beau Michael, is a true blessing. He’s 10.5. A year ago in October, he was diagnosed with a non-aggressive lymphoma. The life expectancy was about 6 months. One year later, the vet came in to examine Beau and said, “Here’s my miracle dog.” The secret is to spoil them rotten, love them, and tell them you love them. Beau is living proof of that! I may be biased, but I think he is the best dog in the world!
You always know you’re loved when Gaius is around. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve spent two minutes going to the mailbox or are coming home after a day at work, he always greets you like you’ve been gone for years and he thought you’d never come back!
Oliver is the best little dog anyone could ask for. The other night I was feeling quite depressed and he made me laugh. He was laying in his dog bed with his head pushed under the side and his four legs up in the air. I love this little guy so much!
My rescue lhasa apso, yuji, came with some bad behaviors-the worst being that he jumped up on counters and ate anything there. Some things he ingested include two unripened avocados, a frozen steak, and an italian loaf of bread. We’ve had him 2 years and he turned out just fine-he taught us to NEVER leave anything edible on the counters!
My Maltese/Chihuahua, Zeus, likes to eat near my family and when we go up to visit my family I have in another state, his bowl is in the laundry room. Well, when I put his food in his dish and while we are eating in the kitchen, he’ll put at least 5 or 6 pieces of food in his mouth and carry them out the kitchen and then put the food down on the floor and then he’ll take each piece and eat it. When he’s eaten all the pieces he goes back and gets some more!
We both love to eat when our pawrents eat.
We both love to go to our local dog park and have fun with all of our friends and sometimes have treats there.
Duke Loves fruits and veggies,he also was a great dad to his puppies cleaning after them and such plus he’s very protective of me and has kept me safe many times.I love him very much and he’s my Best Friend/baby boy.
Mickey is so loveable he will lick you to death as soon as you walk in the door. My friends and family describe this as a “licking problem” but for me getting all of this loving is certainly not a problem.
I have two border collies that are totally fun and crazy. love dogs and try to donate to shelters as much as I can and try to voulunter my time at local shelter to help out
We adopted Jasmine. The place that rescued her rescued her from another shelter the day before she was to die. Then, we adopted her on her birthday. She has been here for almost two happy years.
Nothing says “IAMS HOME”… like hearing my Gordon Setter/Choc. Lab mix… Suzy give her “hoooowwwwwling” hello as I get out of my car!
When I was a puppy, I snuck into the girl’s bedroom during Halloween season.
Mommy heard this, ‘thump, thump, thump’ and asked daddy (r.i.p.) what that noise was. He said, ‘I don’t know, go see’. Mommy opened the door to the bedroom and out comes me with a big orange pumpkin stuck on my head (photo in my dogster album). I stumbed out of the room bumping into the walls. I made my way into the kitchen where I proceeded to bounce off the kitchen cabinets. Now, instead of rescuing me right away, mommy was heard laughing as she ran to get her camera! How dare she take photos of me during my most embarrassing moment in life. And just for the record, ‘NO! I was not trying to steal the candy! I simply went to visit the girls and the pumpkin jumped on my head!’ That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
hehehe
