360 Precious Puppies Seized
Horst Hoefinger

It feels like everyday I’m posting a story on a puppy mill raid. It’s great that something is finally being done about bad breeders, but where on earth are all these dogs going to go.

People are turning in their dogs at an alarming rate already, add on top of this thousands of dogs from puppy mills being thrown into the mix.  A recipe for disaster.  In this case, more dogs put down per year than ever before.

It’s time the laws are changed to make the penalty fit the crime. Backyard breeders will never stop as long as the reward outweighs the risk. The profit outweighs the penalty. The time to change things is now, before it’s too late.

J.B’s Precious Puppies located in Seneca, MO was raided after a tip came from someone who went to purchase a dog.  The tipster was shown an unhealthy looking dog and requested to see another one, after being turned down the buyer became suspicious.

A tiger and cat were seized along with over 360 dogs found at this facility. This is not the first time the owner has been in trouble with the law.

Public information indicates that the breeder has had previous violations, the Humane Society release said. In January 2006, the U.S. Department of Agriculture levied $10,000 worth of fines against the breeder for multiple violations within the Animal Welfare Act, the news release said.

In 2007, the state seized 150 dogs from the property and sold them at a private auction. The proceeds were given to the owner. No charges were filed at that time .

It is unbelievable that this woman received the proceeds of the dogs auctioned.  As mentioned above, until the penalty outweighs the profit these people will just keep going.  The animals just rescued were living in wire cages covered in urine and feces. There was no food visible and the water they had was frozen. Obviously, this person has no regards for the animals and needs to be stopped once and for all.

The dogs will be taken to the Humane Society’s headquarters in St. Louis for triage. This rescue comes just days after the Humane Society took in 100 Yorkies from a breeding facility in Greene County.

Dogs rescued from the Seneca facility included small-breed dogs including chihuahuas, Boston terriers, miniature pinchers, Lhasa apsos, Pomeranians and Westies, according to the news release. There were also 25 to 30 large breeds including huskies, chow- chows and Shar Peis.

So far the Humane Society has been able to cope, but they are calling on all their volunteers to help out. I’m sure they could use as many volunteers as possible, if interested visit their site for more info.

This person has no concern for the welfare of these animals. She needs to serve time. Stop just giving these people a slap on the wrist.

I am SO HAPPY that FINALLY MO is getting the attention it deserves! Bring on the bad press. I live here and I am appalled by what goes on. The dog auctions need to be stopped too. Scum steals dogs and brings them to the auctions, I suspect many “breeders” buy stolen dogs “UNSUSPECTINGLY” to replace their abused short-lived breeding stock.
I had a dog stolen, she came back, somehow, some way, about two weeks later. She has NEVER been the same, whatever happened to her turned her into a very fearful girl with frequent nightmares where she cries and wakes up disoriented and trembling…
Without “breeders” that are allowed to own and operate concentration camps for dogs, a lot of animal abuse would be eliminated, and euthanasia would decline dramatically.
I hear there is a puppy mill south of me, don’t know the town, where there is a “breeding facility” (ahem), with 600 dogs.
Sure hope they get them soon. I can only imagine what a house of horrors that must be.
Of course, I’ll bet it is LICENSED.

If they knew this woman did this before, then why the heck didn’t they check up on her from time to time to see what she was up to?? Of course she’s going to do it again if she’s getting the money one way or the other – by either selling the animals or getting it back from the state!! I don’t understand – if she had $10,000 dollars worth of fines levied against her, then why did the state give her the money?!?! The penalties for these kinds of crimes against innocent animals should be jail time. I wonder if they would like being locked up day after day in a small cell?? At least theirs would be clean and they would get fed good food and have clean drinking water. Something they don’t think their animals deserve even after all the money they make for them.

Why is it so impossible to toughen these laws? It’s great the pmillers are raided and animals saved, but it just goes on and on and on until they are caught once again with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak. Where is the common sense in giving this woman proceeds from the auction? Is it insurance that the fines will be paid? Horse hockey.

If we can prosecute thieves, we can sharpen our legal arrows to strike puppy millers, too. Aren’t they stealing as well? They profit by stealing the lives of forgotten and unwanted dogs to procreate for their financial benefit. And then the animals, the unsuspecting public, and the rescues pay the price.

Where’s the health department in all of this? Not only is it a crime against the animals, it’s a health hazard as well.

Dogsters are shakers and movers. Let’s get going. We NEED legislation on a federal level. Where can we start? Who can we write letters to?

This is the necessary pain, I think, to begin to address a problem that has gone on for too long. Public awareness has finally been obtained, and people who previously would have likely not said anything to authorities after seeing what this prospective customer saw, are no longer afraid to speak out. These are all good things! The lack of spaying and neutering, and abandonment/dumping of peoples’ pet animals is a separate issue, which may eventually be aided by the lesser availability of petshop puppies due to mill seizures/closures. In the meantime, the seized animals WILL be spayed and neutered before being placed in homes, which would not have happened, if they had survived the mill to be marketed. What a horrible situation! But, at least THESE dogs are saved and there will be more, unfortunately!!!

  6. Ardie

What the heck is wrong with these people!!! This needs to stop.

WE NEED MORE ANIMAL LOVERS MAKING THE DECISIONS FOR THE ANIMALS….instead of people that could care less like the judge that sentenced all the pit bulls from the recent dgofighting ring….KILLED…including the puppies, the little babies that were not even born et were ordered KILLED…do you think that judge has a clue as to what kind of love an animal gives??? I BET NOT!We need to get an FBI list for animal abusers and puppy mills so we are able to keep tabs on these freaks just like porn freaks…..they all have a screw loose!

  8. Enough already

In many of these cases, the people involved in running the puppy mill are actually hoarders and do not realize what they are doing is wrong. These people are mentally ill and need serious help. They need to have all animals removed from their custody, they need to repay their debt to society (be it in fines or jail time, whatever is deemed appropriate), they need to be ordered into therapy and they need to be closely monitored. These people have a near 100% recitivism rate and will hoard again if they are not closely monitored.

Why can’t laws be passed? Because Millers are organized and hit the web with lies/half-truths about proposed legislation. Well meaning, caring people react knee-jerk and forward the emails and call their legislators in opposition without even checking the actual proposed bill against the email received. One of the most vocal opponents of a bill going through the Illinois legislature right now is a Miller that was outted by Oprah. But his email is being passed around the web like it’s GOSPEL, and it keeps spreading and showing up on more and more dog related boards. You can debunk the statements made, item by item, but by then it’s too late–legislators have received 100s of calls in opposition and they drop their support. And when I’ve gone on boards to point out obvious contradictions or half-truths in postings, I’ve gotten flamed and accused of all sorts of things…

  11. Dottie

I am glad to see this coming to a head here.
No dog deserves having to live like that.
I hope Indiana adopts the same rules, we need it here.
If you have ever been inside a puppy mill, which I have and yes, we busted it, you would think twice, the living conditions are horrible.
Who ever busted this mill, I THANK YOU!

  12. Karen

I disagree that puppymill operators are hoarders. They are using their animals to make money, something hoarders do not do.

We absolutely need laws to just ban puppymills altogether. Puppymills and backyard breeders. They are wrong, and the list of wrongs is a long one.

  13. Ariel

Cannot find out if the dogs that were rescued are adoptable and where to view them. All those pups have to go somewhere. The HSUS MO is not showing them on their website.

Wait.. hold up… she had a TIGER?!?! And had it declawed at that!

    This woman is seriously deranged.

  16. Redford's mom

OMG! Did you see these pics? Heartbreaking! The condition of all these poor animals. The condition of the tiger . . . OMG! Such a majestic animal reduced to skin and bones. OMG. I’m speechless . . . I just feel like crying. Crying for all these innocent animals. And these are the “lucky” ones because they were found and rescued. My heart breaks for all those that are still in those wretched puppy mills where rescue will never come.

Thank God these ones are getting help. They’re recovering. Even the precious Tiger is doing better and going to a sanctuary. Thank God for all those people involved in the rescue. Thank God for the person that contacted the police in the first place.

  17. Dog and Animal Lover

This woman is psychopathic, extremely sick mentally, and emotionally unstable. She should receive the harshest punishment that the state has to offer, regardless of age.

She claims that she loved these dogs as if they were her children because she couldn’t have any children. Thank God, she wasn’t able to have children. She ran these horrific kennels for 30 years, and yet, no one spoke up about what horrirble conditions they saw, for 30 years? Shame on those who turned a blind eye and deaf ears. Why in Gods name was she allowed to keep a Bengal Tiger, in the first place? 9 years is a long time to suffer from hunger and malnutrition, trapped inside a locked filthy cage. Many people in Missouri, need to step up to the plate and take responsibility.

THE ENTIRE STATE OF MISSOURI AND THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE IN MISSOURI SHOULD BE ASHAMED, FOR LETTING “ALL PUPPY MILLS” TO CONTINUE ON IN THEIR STATE. Any person that has knowledge and whereabouts of this taking place, should report it to the Humane Society immediately, not pretend that it isn’t happening. Don’t be afraid to get involved. Get knee deep involved.!!! Thats the only way this will stop! Write letters to your state Senator, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ( http://www.aspca.org) and also write to President Barack Obama. His website and address are on the Internet. Tell them that you want to see this insensitive form of slavery and brutality, stopped by creating stronger laws for these innocent creatures of God. Laws that will bring extremely harsh punishments, for this type of horrible and degrading behavior, from irrational, insensitive, and diabolical human beings. You the people of the United States, have the power to put an end to this violence, by speaking up for those without a voice. Do the Right thing!

  18. Dog and Animal Lover

Write to the Department of Agriculture in Missouri, telling them to (get out of the business of issuing licences) to dog breeders. The Department of Agriculture is responsible, for allowing the hush-hush cruelty, of Puppy Mills, to continue as it is, by issuing licences to greedy money- hungry, uncaring breeders, and by collecting their fees for providing their services, of issuing such licences. You can find their website on the internet, by using google.com.

  19. Animal freek

Puppy mills are a horrible thing to ever have or to think about. I say the same thing as “dog animal lover,” they should not license people to bred dogs go to the shelter if you want a dog then YOU will save on life out of millions of dogs that need a home. And they will never ask for anything else than a warm bed and food/water.
