Children Caught Burning Puppies

This story is disturbing on so many levels. Not only is the act itself horrific, but the ages of the children involved is frightening to me.
The fact that children could commit this crime without feeling or remorse shows there is something very wrong in our society.
Newbold, Rochdale (UK): A gang of youths had seized the seven-week-old brother and sister and were slowly roasting them over a bonfire on a canal bank.
Yelping in panic and distress as their fur began to burn, the pair struggled desperately to escape the children’s clutches.
The commotion attracted a walker who ran over to the bonfire and ordered the gang to release them immediately.
Melanie Johnson, 32, said: ‘I just could not believe the cruelty being shown by these kids. If I hadn’t turned up, I think they would have burned the dogs alive.’
Miss Johnson, from Rochdale, added: ‘Most of the kids were aged 12, 13 or older. But some were as young as ten. I was ripping mad and still am to think that anyone – least of all children – could do this.’
She took the two puppies from the bank and carried them to the safety of her home before wrapping them in a towel and taking them to an RSPCA shelter.
The puppies are doing fine and will soon be put up for adoption. No arrests have been made in connection to this crime. I hope the Greater Manchester Police don’t just dismiss this as kids being kids, this is a despicable act and those children need to be punished accordingly.
Yesterday I did a post on starting a Neighborhood Watch Program, and getting a free kit to start one. I mentioned it would be a great aid for teachers, helping to give children a better understanding how animals should be treated and how to interact with them.
This vicious act reinforces my feelings even more, children that abuse and torture animals turn into adults who do the same. That should be enough to scare anyone into action, change starts with you, take time to make a difference.

oh my gosh! That story brought tears to my eyes. Where are these kid’s parents and why aren’t they doing anything about this monsterous behavior?! I can’t imagine anyone being able to do that to a puppy or any kind of living animal. I feel bad for hours if I just accidently step on my dog. I hope those kids get the mental help they need.
Children who abuse animals and use fire to burn structures/living things, especially prior to the age of 12 will grow up to be deemed Antisocial Personalities. These are sociopaths who will likely go on to become our rapists, murderers and serial killers. The fact that the burning would have resulted in significant, torturous pain and these children were witnessing/inflicting it only proves the point. Where are parents these days?
Ugh…This ruined my whole morning.
This is so sad. These children need to be committed to forensic psychiatric facilities immediately for evaluation to determine how dangerous they are and if they are even able to be saved. I see the adult versions of these children every day (locked up, thankfully) and the coldness with which they can justify their antisocial behaviour is chilling.
This story enrages me and breaks my heart. These kids need to be punished and taught about animals.
It all goes back to their homelife and what they are taught. Our society is in direstraits, this only reaffirms my intuition that we are raising a generation of idiots. This is sickening and makes my stomach churn.
sickening.
but back in England where i come from..
kids attach fireworks to cats so im not surprised these kids tried to spit roast the puppies.
This is sick! If these brats did this to puppies they would do this to any living thing and they need to be disiplined NOW, all of them should be sitting in juvie!
Does anyone watch Dexter… this is how he started out!
Put all the children in juvenile detention and force them to watch animal cruelty videos until they drown in their own tears. Then force the parents to do 1000 hours of community service working with animal protection services in the U.K.
There is never enough punishment for this kind of thing and it is just sickening.
Those kids are beyond help and will be of no good to the world ever.
I am just heartbroken after reading this story. I am so glad to hear that the poor little puppies will be ok and I am going to go give my Binx a HUGE hug right now!
This is so, so very sad and is just another example of a lot that is wrong on this planet today.
UGH!! Why can’t the parents teach their kids not to abuse animals or *ANYTHING* for that matter. That story made me sick and those kids better get some serious talking to, maybe therapy would help.
I got nuthin’…there are simply no words to express the horror.
I am glad the walker spotted the cruel children an helped the little puppies. The kids would not want someone to burn them. That is so cruel of them to treat an animal like that.
I agree with Kit and Agnes’ Dad…they are likely to be tragic and terrifing monsters set loose in their neighborhoods. People need to run, lock their doors, grab their children and keep their pets right at their feet!!! Hearing what goes on in our society these days is more than disturbing to me…it’s terrifing and definitely tells me that evil is here and walks among us, now moreso than ever before. How, how do children become this distured and grow up to be monsters prowling on innocent society? Thank you to the hero that rescued those precious puppies! Three cheers to you!!!!!!
Simply unbelievable!!! Bless the woman who happened to be near enough to save them.
OMG!!! I can not belive this!! Where are these brats parents? This PO’s Me on so many levels!! I think these kids should be put in foster care with parents that could teach them better morals. Obviously they are learning these cruel acts from somewhere!!
This is one of the most disturbing, disgusting things I’ve ever read; even human children aren’t so innocent anymore (in regards to cruelty to other living beings), what kind of generation are we raising? I know they’re children, but they need to be prosecuted and forced into therapy, the parents also need to be charged for raising such a child and sent to parenting classes.
Oh my goodness!!! This tears my heart to peices. These monsters need to be locked away. They will turn into horrible adults. ( statistics can prove it!!! )
Children who torture and or kill animals graduate to doing the same to humans when they get older. I am happy everuthing turned out for the puppies. Their new humans will love them and take care of them.
What is this world coming to?! This is downright disgusting! These kids are an absolute disgrace to our society. This is the reason I have yet to have children of my own. The way I see some of these kids growing up these days makes me sick. Parents really need to start paying better attention to who or should I say what they’re raising in thier homes. This is definitely a huge lack of parental guidance for these kids to think that this type of behaviour is acceptable.
So glad to hear the puppies are safe. Thank Dog for special people like Miss Melanie being at the right place at the right time. I’m so grateful that she was so brave.
Imagine how many of these incidents go unnoticed by people like Melanie. Awful!
This makes me want to vomit. Sadly, this is the society we have bred the world over. Not just crappy parents, but society as a whole.
We had an 8 yr old kid present to our ER (for humans) who had tried to kill his little sister in much the same way. He got his ideas from horror flicks and video games. That crap isn’t fit for any human consumption much less a kid.
Scary place we live in. It’s not apt to improve anytime soon either. At least on Dogster I can find some people who understand my love for animals.
this is extremely disturbing, and unfortunately probably only the beginning. These kids are off to far bigger things I am afraid. There is always a few followers in the crowd so the older kids or the ring leaders should receive mental health care and serve jail time. This is horrible and thank God for the person that saved the pups. Do something before it escalates. So glad the little guys are going to be okay.
It made me cry! I can’t believe that any one can look into those eye’s and do something like that. These kids have no SOUL or HEART, they are going to grow into rapeists. murdres, unfit to live in our society. They should be locked away for a very long time. I think the punishment should fit the crime. These kids would learn real quick how much pain they caused in that moment of their fun.
What the!?!?! Shouldn’t be surprised, I guess, as when I was about 5 years old, my family adopted a cat that a neighbor had rescued from being drowned by some mean kids.
What’s going on these days? Things keep getting worse and worse…
I had to comment again after reading the rest of the comments. Things have not gotten worse, there have always been monsters like these kids. War, slavery, torture, public displays of animal cruelty…no generation has a monopoly on it.
this is so sad.
they should be punished for crying out loud. what kind of child would do this?
freaking sick.
bastards.
I think the parents should also be held responsible! Children should be taught ALL LIFE is precious! As a 10, 11, 12, 13 year old, I looked forward to playing with my pets, never would the thought of hurting them cross my mind. This is sickening! I hope they are held accountable for their actions. I completely agree with KIT’s & Angus post. Those children need to get help now, before it is to late and they take a life! TG somebody came along and saved those poor innocent puppies.
Those kids should be taken out behind the barn and whipped severely. And their parents ought to be made to watch it, and perhaps be whipped as well for raising such delinquent sociopaths. They don’t have to grow up to be sociopaths, they’ve already made the cut on that team.
Help for these kids is long overdue, and I don’t believe they can change. They are already exhibiting traits that are common to serial killers. The only redeeming grace here is that the puppies were rescued before they were terribly hurt or killed.
Now if a dog had been cruel to people, attacking without any provocation, the dog would be put down and the animal’s remains would be necropsied to determine if they had rabies.
THis story has spread far, it was in our paper today with a big colour picture. We are in Australia, I found this story absolutely sickening! On the bright side at least the puppies lived, they are very cute. As for the kids it is horrendous, to think kids of such a young age could do that just stuns me, boils my blood!
I am OUTRAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so MAD I can’t even figure out what to say!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to the pups!!!!!
This is awfull!!!!!
Ufortunately there are many kids that learnt this even from her parents and this terrifies me.
Mom tries to stop people that act like this but she’ll never be able to do this alone
Only if the laws would be more “cruel” with these kind of treats.
I’m so glad these pups were saved. A cat in Washington, DC was not so lucky. It was stoned to death last week. Again by “children”. I cannot say here what I would like to happen to these children and their lazy, lousy parents.
In reply to Green. Yes, there have always been monsters, but it HAS gotten worse.
When I was growing up there were no video games, the horror movies were dorky and the media didn’t give instant gratification nor glory. There weren’t school shootings. While there were fights, it usually involved little more than a black eye and a spanking when you got home. About the worst thing that ever happened was a girl go pregnant or someone was suspended for fighting.
There were cruel children, but not quite on today’s level. Cruel and heinous have new meanings in our instant gratification society. Everything is about me, me, me, and there is little consequence for atrocious behavior.
This type of behavior is hard to even absorb. Where are the parents? I’d be horrified if these were my kids. To do something like this and get a thrill from torturing a living thing is unbelievable. I agree with others that have posted remarks. These kids will grow up to be the murderers, rapists arsonists of the future. They will continue getting their thrills from inflicting pain and suffering to others.
I am beyond sickened. My hair is standing on end in shock. Please do NOT let these Sickos get away with this horrific crime. Remember the kids who tortured and killed the poor toddler not so many years ago. Please UK friends keep ontop of this for us all.Dont let it get swept under the rug. Tahnk you to Meanie for stepping in and helping save these pups.
Sorry that was Melanie not meanie. BLess you dear soul.
This behavior is horrific but unfourtunately kids will look for any kind of ATTENTION EVEN THE WRONG ONE…
Kenyon’s mom, kids today have video games yes but there are still good and bad as always. Many today are environmentally aware and want to make a positive difference in the world and fight for equality of sexes and cultures. Sure there are negatives but in the past there have been lynchings and I won’t go into detail, genocide (several times), some animals went on the verge of extinction due to the blood baths in the Colliseums of Rome. I don’t know when you were in school but believe me there were some heinous acts going on in the world somewhere, not at your school but somewhere there was unspeakable violence/ domestic abuse/ cruelty. People talk about “the good old days” but when I see ads/movies from the 50s era it chills my blood to see the racism/sexism/unawaredness on many social issues/treatment of pets, I cringe but then again I see many positives of the 50s too, I don’t write the generation off. I still stand by my first remark that these particular kids are ruined and will only bring more pain to the world.
Be careful about blaming parents….
My son is a sociopath. He was born with no remorse or conscience of any kind.
I have had him in several different programs, therapies, psychologists, psychiatrists etc.
There is no cure for this problem and 50% of criminals are sociopaths. 1 in 100 end up murdering or raping. Most of the 1 in 100 were also abused. Sociopaths are people too. They just need to learn how painful it is to do things that are wrong.
Even then they may not conform.
Here are the typical sociopath bullets….
Summary Of Sociopaths
1. They make you feel sorry for them.
2. They make you feel worried or afraid.
3. They give you the impression you owe them.
4. They make you feel used.
5. Sometimes you suspect they don’t care about you.
6. They lie to you and deceive you.
7. They take a lot from you and give back very little.
8. They make you feel guilty (and use that to manipulate you).
9. They take advantage of your kindness.
10. They are easily bored and need constant stimulation.
11. They don’t take responsibility but place blame elsewhere.
and if you think you know a sociopath here is the questions to ask yourself,
1. Do you often feel used by the person?
2. Have you often felt that he (or she) doesn’t care about you?
3. Does he lie and deceive you?
4. Does he tend to make contradictory statements?
5. Does he tend to take from you and not give back much?
6. Does he often appeal to pity? Does he seem to try to make you feel sorry for him?
7. Does he try to make you feel guilty?
8. Do you sometimes feel he is taking advantage of your good nature?
9. Does he seem easily bored and need constant stimulation?
10. Does he use a lot of flattery? Does he interact with you in a way that makes you feel flattered even if he says nothing overtly complimentary?
11. Does he make you feel worried? Does he do it obviously or more cleverly and sneakily?
12. Does he give you the impression you owe him?
13. Does he chronically fail to take responsibility for harming others? Does he blame everyone and everything but himself?
Everyone thinks we parents are to blame… I can assure you I am not… I took my son and daughter away from their mother (she is Anti Social as well) and raised them. My daughter had all the same opportunity to be “bad” as my son and she isn’t. She is talented and wonderful.
My son was born broken. He may never be a “good kid” but he has decided he wants to live a normal life and get a job….. he is learning how to behave and what society thinks is normal. I just hope he doesn’t decide that the reward for being a productive member of society isn’t worth the effort.
If he does he will be one of the 50% of inmates.
Thanks JC
This is horrible. I noticed that there is a good deal of discussion here about parents and for that I’m glad. Parenting has lost attention for far too long (at least here in the US)…we’ve given a lot of our responsibilities as parents over to local or higher governments. Cities who have curfews, for example. People are afraid to tell someone else’s child that they’re in the wrong. There are parents who have no idea how to set boundaries for their own children. Then there are people who feel that it’s just someone else’s kid, someone else’s job, someone else’s responsibility. We are a community of people — we are ALL responsible.
This all boils down to one thing, sparing the rod and spoiling the child.
If those kids had felt pain at the proper moments when they deserved to, then they would have had some idea and consciousness of what any other living thing is feeling. Those “time out days” has long played out with this generation. Today’s parents need to go back to what they know is the only option left if they intend to retain their own sanity, and that is…
…when little Billy’s gettin out of hand, let his but feel . the board of education
it a make a boy a better man and save you much . pain and all the aggravation.
