Lawsuit By Dog Owners Challenging BSL
Horst Hoefinger

Here’s an interesting twist on the normal stories I report on regarding breed specific legislation.  Dog owners have banned together to bring a suit against four cities to question the constitutionality of BSL.

A judge Tuesday set a July 20 jury trial date for a group of dog owners and breeders who are challenging pit-bull bans in Jacksonville, Lonoke, North Little Rock and Beebe.

The trial of a lawsuit brought against the cities by Responsible Owners of Arkansas Dogs will be held before Chief U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes in Little Rock.

The lawsuit claims the breed specific bans and restrictions are unconstitutional.

Definitely want to keep an eye on this case, the outcome could be precedent setting. Thanks to Charli for barking this to me.

* The gorgeous girl above, the four-legged one, is Inky.  She was found tied to a  street pole and is currently being fostered. She  now has her AKC Canine Good Citizen award and is Therapy Dog International certified. SHE IS ADOPTABLE!

Please keep us posted on this! I hope the Dog Group Owner’s win. After all any dog, any breed, if raised wrong can be dangerous. I own a Pit Bull and he is the most loving dog I have ever had the good fortune to own. I just found out recently that he was obtained from a Pit Bull Rescue Group. I was never told that when he first came to my home. The poor furbaby had cuts and scratches on various areas too. Thankfully they all healed nicely. Big hugs to all that support and operate Pit Bull Rescue Groups. I am so thankful to have my sweet little Buddy. I am also thankful for those who stand up for Pit Bulls. They have definitely gotten a bad reputation. Sending best wishes to the group fighting the BSL in their areas. I will be saying prayers that they win this.-Joanie, Buddy and Dino

I hope they win too! Many cities have been sued for implementing pit bull bans, but most of the time, the city wins:(

I’m pulling for them as well.

I wish them all the luck in the world. I wish more communities could find out how to ban together like this before BSL takes a hold.

Pit Bulls are very lovable, loyal, and territorial creatures. If they are raised and treated mean and hurtful they have the potential to be mean and hurtful. Animals like humans are innocent when they first present in this world. How they end up depends on how they are treated and whether they are loved or not.

I have always had Pit Bulls or boxers or some kind of bulldogs as pets they are most loyal, smart, and low maint. I can’t imagine having a more loving devoted pet. I hope with all my heart that this kind of BSL will be put to rest once and for all. I also hope that the people who change them into fighters, for their own ENTERTAINMENT, should be more agressively prosecuted. The slap on the wrist they gave to Mike Vick was just not enough. He should be made to fight for his life, and threatened with electrocution or hanging if he does’nt do well, I feel that this should be done on a regular basis. Until this kind of trainingis stopped.

I am praying!! Although I may not own a Pit Bull, I would be glad to get one someday with my other dogs!! People just don’t get it!
