The Canny Collar Can Contest

Our dog Copper is the sweetest girl you could ever want, until we get to the park. While she loves people she turns into Cujo around other dogs. She starts to pull and tug relentlessly at her leash. It’s easier for me to control her than Lisa, who usually gets pulled about 10 feet before she can get Copper to a complete stop.
There’s a new training collar on the market by The Canny Company that can totally turn this behavior around making walking your dog fun again. The great thing is that it doesn’t matter the size of your dog, with the collar you will easily be able to regain control.
The Canny Collar
This revolutionary Scottish-designed product is the first dog training collar to give you complete control and good behavior when walking your dog. Simple to fit and easy to use, it tackles the most common dog behavior problem of leash pulling and ensures that within minutes your dog is walking happily by your side. It is a simple piece of dog training equipment made up of a conventional flat collar with a traditional buckle fastening for security. Your leash attaches to a thinner slip line, made from soft yet strong material, which then fits over the nose of your dog.Unlike other dog walking devices where the leash fastens under the chin, the leash fastens behind your dog’s head – an innovative and unique design in dog behavior training.
Lisa and I have tried a similar collar, the one that attaches under the chin. The collar has made a huge difference, Copper will stop pulling with a simple tug of the leash. The only thing we don’t like is the fact that it fastens below the chin, we’re looking forward to the Canny collar with the fastener behind the head.
When we first started using the collar we noticed people with children and small dogs tended to back away, they thought it was a muzzle. Lately we have spotted more dog walkers using this product and we’ll just look at each other with a knowing look, it isn’t a muzzle but a great training tool.
Do you have problems with your pup pulling or going after other pups? If so, you can be one of 10 lucky Dogsters to win a Canny Collar. To enter leave a comment in the comment section about why your dog needs a one. The contest starts today and will run through Tuesday, January 20th when I will pick the winners at random.

I have become the owner of a very exuberant and strong pit bull that was dumped down the road from me out in the country. She was left without food or water and wouldn’t wander from that spot. After several days of seeing her not moving I started feeding her then brought her home. She obviously is not leash trained and I am not strong enough to hold her as I have medical limitations. I would like to try the new collar to see if it will even up the odds so to speak.
My pups have not been on a walk in a long time due to leash pulling (we have a fenced in yard, so its not necessary to walk them). We have tried different methods of training but none have worked. We enjoy walking and would love to be able to take Indie and Bayla with us, and they would love to be able to come along!
My dog Bobo is a shar-pei mix about 40 lbs and all muscle. He is very strong and pulls. I also have a Lab mix 85lbs (Brandy) that i walk at the same time and have the same problem with . Both resues. I only weigh about 100 lbs which makes our walks very difficult. I would love to try the leash. i have looked at the gentle lead but, haven’t been able to afford it. I also have a 12 yr old chow (Bear) and 2 ferrets also resues. (Butch and Sheba)
My Mom, Patti, could really use this!
She is an Animal Behaviorist and works with some real nut cases,( oops- I’m not supposed to say that..)
She works with some dogs that have real issues.
She has a # of “collars” that fasten under the chin, but is not really pleased with their effects on our
“issue dogs”- This collar sounds pretty neat!!
Thanks!!!
TIR, ( who is impeccable on a leash!!!)
I have two dogs Petey is a giant 80 pound red noise pitbull and Oliver a 11 pound jack russell.I take both of them out for walks together. Its like tug the mommy in any direction they want. The pitbull is strong and oliver thinks he is strong.I am only 100 pounds and five foot one. This would help my arms and my dogs.Pa pa pa please help
Thank you
I have two American Bulldogs, both over 100bs. We have a father and son. The father is older now so he isn’t too hard to walk on the leash. However, his son is 4 years old.
Please help! Any thing could help at this point! Thanks!
We love him with all our hearts and sounds a lot like Copper. (Coincidentally his name is Cooper.) He is an angel in the house and with us. However when he see’s another dog on the street he goes nuts! At one time he actually was able to pull my mother down when he saw another pup. Luckily, no one was hurt. We don’t understand why he needs to run after other dogs. He has already broke 3 leashes! We can’t have any more incidences because our pet insurance will drop us
My Sasha is a 60lb. pit bull, who loves people! Unfortunately, she’s not so keen on other pups. She has pulled me down in the snow, ice and rain, just because she wanted to go to another dog! I’d love to try this new collar, because the “safety muzzle” I tried previously was chewed to bits! Thanks!
I love walking my dogs, but Bella has gotten to where she really gets upset if she sees other dogs. Trying to keep her under control while still walking with Rem and Ping gets awfully difficult. It would be nice to go for a walk and not have to pick the boxer up and carry her when she gets feisty!
When I take my Labrador Ping for a walk he always drags me sniffing everywhere. My neighbor always tells me looks like Ping is taking you for a walk. It would be nice to just go for a nice calm walk for once!!
My labrador Retriever is 3 yrs. old never had to be on a leash cause I live way in the country in Alaska, but when I have to take him to vet or someplace would be nice not to get my arm ripped out of socket, I’m dissable and is very hard to control due to severe neck and back problems, lplease help!!
Neither my Lab nor I gets enough exercise because she is such a leash-puller. When the weather is good, we go to off-leash areas, but when it isn’t… we’re both couch potatoes. I’ve tried several styles of halters, will without any success.
Daisy and I would love to slim down this new year and exercise is our best bet!
Our male 80 lb rough collie loves going for walks and I love taking him. But in his effort to go greet children we meet along the trails, which he absolutely adores, he pulls so hard I’m afraid he will pull the leash right out of my hands. I wrap it around my hand but it soon starts cutting off my circulation. He actually backs up a little to put some slack in the leash, then lunges forward with all his might trying to put me off balance. He’s a very smart dog and I am not a young woman anymore and I’m afraid he will pull me right down. I can see me now, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!
We bought a Halti Head collar which helped some but it rides up and slips into his eyes and it bugs him so much he lays down on the ground and tries to push it off with his front paws. Because Murphy has a very long thin muzzle of a typical collie, it’s very hard to make it fit right.
It would be so great if we could win one of these new Canny training collars so we could both enjoy walks more often!
Maddy always tries to pull out ahead and lead the way. She’s only 8 pounds, but sure can make walking difficult! Especially when we go downtown and are walking through crowds of people. We’ve tried just about everything with her, but this training collar might do the trick!
I have a 200# English mastiff. I am 4′10″ and when she has decided to go see another dog she has literally flown me through the air 10 feet or more on so many occasions when she has taken off in another direction that I do not even try to walk her anymore. I know I would love to have her join me on walks and she would get so much enjoyment out of it too. I would love to try the canny collar to see if it will help control her for me.
Cherry and Echo
After adopting my dal Sooner 2 years ago from the SPCA I decided it would be fun to have another dal in our home. So Deja came home with me from the Humane Society and life has not been the same. You see, Sooner is a lay on the couch with a blanket covering her watching Animal Planet dog and Deja is obviously true to her breed. She is impossible to walk, cannot sit or stand still without stomping her feet and has left leash marks on my hands from pulling so hard to go visit other dogs or people. Forget walking both of them at the same time. I would love to see if this collar would help me train her to walk properly so that we could all enjoy walking together.
I have 2 wonderful Boston Terrier companions Buddy(9yrs) and Bogey(7mo) it’s a real shame they don’t get to go for walks. It isn’t fair to Bogey not to get to go on walks because Buddy insists on not walking he grabs the leash in his mouth and plays tug o war the entire time he is leashed. This is very aggravating, therefor nobody goes on walks, can’t take one without the other. We have tried a harness but he is still able to get to the leash. I really don’t want to put a muzzle on him. This Canny training collar sounds like just the kind of help Buddy and I need so we all can enjoy walks!
It’s my little dog, Griffin, that is a bear to walk on a regular collar and leash. He pulls so bad that he ends up choking himself. I’ve tried a harness too but that is of no use. I too have tried the similar collar and although it works on him I don’t like the fact that it hooks under the chin. I always feel like it’s yanking his neck. I have two dogs and I always feel bad putting this collar on my little dog as he doesn’t appear to others as he needs it. This collar would work out so good for Griffin. I know he would enjoy his walks more.
My poor dog…
Sadie has always pulled. I have tried every type of collar and training technique I’ve come across. She still pulls. I think she (and I) have become confused on how to walk together.
Manny is the dog that get to go everywhere. Even though he is the bigger dog, he does not pull.
Oh, I would love one of these! Mudge is an exuberant young Saint Bernard. We’ve spent hours and hours and hours training him, but he still gets quite excited when we see other dogs, which causes him to pull at the leash. We do currently use another brand of head collar that fastens under his neck. It works fairly well, but because he’s a giant breed and very strong, he can still pull me if he’s really determined. Also, trying to attach a leash under the furry, floppy, dew-lappy neck of a Saint is really difficult! I’d love to see if this design works better for us.
Hi, I’m Jiggs and my mommy does dog training so I’m pretty good on a leash, although I am a work in progress or so she says. Mom is always on the look out for good training devices and this sounds like it might be something people can use. Mom believes in positive reinforcement training so choke chains and pinch collars are not something she likes to use or recommend, although many dogs need something stronger then a buckle collar. The gentle leader is one of the training devices she will recommend and this sounds like it would work as well or better. Mom said she would try it out on me, although being a Bulldog my snout is shorter then most dogs. I’m happy to help mom with training cause I get lots of yummy treats so please pick my mommy for one of these collars.
xoxo Jiggs Vigil
Our Jack Russell terrier could really use one of these! She charges after things and pulls all the time, and makes her brother, a herding mix, imitate her, which just makes things twice as hard to handle. We tried a head collar previously, but it made 0 difference, but this looks like an interesting design, and I think it could really help solve our problems.
ack, forgot to put our dogster page up there, lol! I’m so with it this late at night, heh.
My Mom could really use this collar on several of my canine siblings. She would love a little help leash training us. Thanks, Jack and pack.
Hi,
I have adopted 5 rescue Scotties that like to go for walks but are very excitable. I have tried another training collar, but the dogs are able to remove the collar easily which is not safe for the dogs. This Canny Collar looks like it is very secure and safe. Thanks! Sandy
Wow, that description of Copper is exactly how I would describe my dog! A dream except she will not stop pulling when I walk her, no matter what I do. I’d love to try this out and I’m sure Cookie would like it, too, because she would probably get more and longer walks out of me!
I adopted a shih-tzu from a local SPCA who had been beaten, starved and neglected for 13 months (since birth). He has a sweet personality with me and my husband and our other dogs but is a nightmare walking, at a dog park or any public place or if anyone is in our home. His actions go way beyond being territorial or protective. He strains, pulls, barks, froths and somehow musters up enough strength in his 14 lb body to pull me as he is going after someone to take a chunk out of them. It’s a challenge!
we have 2 siberian huskies. everyone i talk to says its impossible to teach them to NOT pull, as it is a natural instinct. we have a baby due at the end of june and i would like to be able to walk the dogs when i take the baby for a walk too.
My Pugzilla pulls something terrible.
But I’m not sure this product would work on such a short nose breed.
Our Boston Terrier/Cockapoo mix, Milo, has been a training challenge, but now at 2 years old we are really finding him a fun and spunky dog to keep us laughing. The one time he still reverts back to the “Cujo” behavior mentioned in the blog is when he is walking and sees other dogs. At 19 lbs this doesn’t sound like much of a danger, but I am afraid he might provoke a bigger dog with all this bravado. If it is a friendly dog he knows, he calms right down. But someone he doesn’t know is treated quite rudely! I have tried a number of tactics, but the Canny Collar sounds like it might make the difference in his case.
THE CANNY COLLAR WILL BE A LIFESAVER TO ME AND MY HUCKLEBUTT DOBE GUINNESS!!! I’m praying that this is it! To say that my non-stop-running and suffering from ADD Dobe Guinness is a handful is an exaggerated understatement. He’s hell on wheels during our walks. We’ve tried every tool from prong, sensible, to sensation but nothing works consistently. We need the Canny Collar because from what I read, it’s an answer to our prayers (Not Guinness’s prayers, which is anything edible). Thank you!!!
I have a “granddog” named Harley. When my son goes out of town, he leaves Harley with me. I’m 55 and I guess Harley thinks “grandma” can’t fend for herself. So when I take him for his walk, he actually takes me for a run! Especially when another person and/or dog is around. He has actually ran me into a brick wall once when he saw a beautiful great dane walking by. Good thing I love this dog!!! Maybe one of these new leashes would be the thing for grandma and grandson LOL
Even at 4.5 lbs Yoki still pulls like crazy. He loves going for walks and sometimes pulls so hard that he can choke himself wearing a harness. Since Chihuahuas are prone to collapsing tracheas using the leash attached to the collar in NOT recommended but this sounds like it would get around that problem. It would definitely be worth giving a try.
I have two furry friends that need help with the control issue during walks. I have a 130lb Great Dane, he is usually fair on a leash, but if he sees something, all bets are off. THe other is a 90lb Golden retriever that thinks he is running the iditorad every time he sees a leash! HELP!
I have a rescue cattle dog who has gotten better with strangers but still is very protective with me around other dogs. I have tried the Halti collar but I would like to try this one since he’s not keen on the one under his neck. I have balance issues and I need something that’s easy to use so I won’t loose my balance when walking my dog.
Hi, we are two and 1/2 years old and very active. We are Chihuahua, Pug and Cavalier Spaniel mix so when we pull on our leash we have problems breathing. Mom now has Fibromyaliga she moves very slow and walks with a cane. When we are walking we pull on our leash and try to get to everone around us. So now mom will only take us for short walks. We thing if mom this we could go on longer walks with her.
Thank you,
Chugs and Tramp
Our dog, Charley, pulls and pulls to no end. We use a chain collar and he always sounds like he’s choking himself. We would love to try this collar out!!!
I have two dogs that pull, a 50lb pitbull mix and a 7lb mini pinscher. They both pull when we are out. The little guy isn’t so much of a problem but when I walk them both or even the bigger dog by herself it gets hard. I have had my shoulder pulled so hard it can be painfull. We have tried the halti collar but she is able to take that off. She loves going on long walks but it is quite impossible because whe pulls so hard. I watched the video and thing the Canny Collar would make a big difference in our lives.
I have one dog that weighs 67 lbs and pulls on her leash. She always has but I was always able to stay in control and get her to stop. This past April I fell off a step ladder and broke my knee. I now have to walk with a cane and can no longer walk this dog on a leash as she will pull me right over. We do have an invisible dog fence which gives her almost two acres to run on but I do miss being able to walk her. A collar like this might just do the trick for us.
I am a dogwalker and I often use headcollars on dogs who pull and have introduced numerous clients and friends to various new options to make their own dog walks more pleasant so I am always very interested in trying out new options but I can’t very well afford to buy every single new collar and leash that comes on the market
My sweet mixed-breed (terrier and beagle) girl, Fuzzy, is waaaaay overweight and it is starting to affect her health. Coincidentally, I am also overweight, so it would be great for us both if I could walk her every day. But I can’t walk her because she pulls too hard! She is about 50 pounds and strong strong strong, and she pulls like a sleigh dog and never relents throughout the whole walk. I can barely hang on, and lost my grip on the leash once, so am now afraid to take her out. This collar would change both of our lives! Plus, her birthday is January 24, she will turn 7 – the collar would be a great birthday gift! Thank you-
Angel absolutely needs one of these! Angel gets along with every dog he’s ever met- he’s the most easy going dog ever, as long as he’s off-leash. As soon as the leash is on, he turns into Cujo too! I can never control him when we’re out walking and he sees another dog. What’s worse is that when he goes crazy, he tends to take it out on Angelina, who’s walking next to him all happy and sane. She mostly ignores him, but her patience does have an end, and I hate having to break up my fighting dogs in front of another dog owner- I look incompetent!!
Gosh I didn’t think it would be possible to tame my wild beast to take her for a leisure walk around other dogs, cats, or people! She is a tiny miniature pinscher but has the attitude of a pitbull! It is actually a bit embarrassing taking her out on a leash to walk as she will pull, snort, and bark all while her fur is raised up on her back. I think she is just scared and is actually harmless but for her safety and my sanity, I would love to win one of these collars! ~
Thanks!
Yumi damaged a ligament in her hind leg during some recent frisbee escapades. The vet thinks that 4-6 weeks of relative quiet will encourage the ligament to tighten up on its own so that surgery isn’t needed. Keeping her quiet INSIDE isn’t a problem. However, there are several dogs in the neighborhood that she has grown quite fond of…and so when she seems them outside during our walks, she pulls like a Husky setting out on the Iditarod. I guess she didn’t get the vet’s memo about no running or jumping. Anyways, I’m hoping that the Canny collar could help me keep her 85 lbs of exuberance under control.
My Pharaoh Hound practically pulls my arm out of its socket when we go for a walk. Once she calms down, after the first mile or two, then she walks right by my side. Canny Collar sounds like something that may help freak dog and I to see eye to eye on our outdoor jaunts.
i love my girls, molly and gabby, but molly goes insane when she sees other animals (not sure she likes other people actually). she is great at guarding our house, and i like that, but i am too old to be dragged down the road when she gets upset about another dog walking (this IS molly’s world, no other dogs allowed). hope we win one, it will make our walks so much nicer:)
I am owned by a 100+ Rhodesian Ridgeback mix and I cannot walk her without my husband. She is a puller and if I had a skate-board it would be a sweet combination…but I do not. I could really use this collar so she could get more exercize and maybe lose a few pounds….and me too. LOL
Bella is a Queensland Heeler, though she’s still a puppy she has the energy and strength of a riled up child jacked up on sugar sticks. I would love to try this collar out cause when I try to walk her she hates it and spins, rolls, twirls, and then runs and tugs at the leash to get at her fixated target. I sometimes picture how other people see us when we’re walking. Bella must look like a cartoon dog where her eyes bulge when she reaches the end of her leash and chokes herself.
I’m not a push over, but there are times where I feel that I have to give her some lead way or she’ll choke herself. We often come back from walks with her panting like mad. I just want to get her on a good walking habit while she’s young.
I am a very big dog that pulls my humom around the block when we go for walks. I have been to training classes to try and help with this. I just cannot help myself. My poor humom has been pulled down a few times. I am just so big my humom cannot hold me back. I just do not think fast enough to stop this!!! I have tried! I really need this collar before I kill my humom. If this happens I would be soooooo sad and alone. I so want to win this collar for me and mostly for my humom!!
I’m the new owner of an 8 week old very strong headed pitbull. He is very stubborn! I’m trying really hard to teach him to leash walk, but he will stove up and not budge. My current collar, he pulls out of. I am trying so hard to teach him how to walk on a leash. I would like to try your collar out, so that hopefully teaching my baby will become easier. Thanks
I’m a rambunctious pup that likes to check out everything I see. Mom gets really mad because she says I am going to take her arm out one of these days. I cant help it, everything is just so interesting to look at. I think mom might need something else to keep me from wandering.
Grover is a good boy with only one bad habit–he pulls very hard when he sees other dogs, buses, or trucks. He’s a rescued rottweiler who was found wandering the highway, so it’s understandable that he doesn’t like large vehicles, but he has pulled me to the ground twice. I could really, really use a Canny Collar.
I love my baby,But he has one Big problem.
Lucky-Charm is’nt much of a charm when we go out for walks. If he sees other dogs he goo’s crazy and it is’nt easy restraining an Akita mix.He also goes after people who are running and he has drag ed me on the ground before and it wasn’t fun.i could really use a Canny Collar, before things get any worse
I would love to try one of these collars with the 9 yr old GSD/Mal I adopted 6 months ago after his owner died. I already had 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks and with this new boy, I am walking a total of nearly 300# of dog at one time! The new guy is very dog-reactive when on-leash and pulls a great deal (he was never walked on leash before, he was a back-yard dog.
When will you annouce the winners?
My dog, Cody, is a Korean Jindo. He is a beautiful wonderful dog at home. But on the leash he is very energetic and if we see another dog (dog forbid) he gets crazy. I have been working with him on “Look at me” and treating and going in the other direction and he is making progress, but I have yet to find the perfect collar. He hates his head halti, I have a no-pull harness, but I don’t feel like it gives me enough control in the event of another dog coming up to us. I got the easy-walk harness and he trips over it and since it connects at his chest and he is always in front of me, it’s not much use. Choke chains are a disaster because they won’t loosen up. I’d love to give it a try.
mum-our little Toby is 9months old & a handful< she goes barking mad at any dog, pup, person, bike. I am a pensioner & now a bit scared to take him out, he wears a harness but gets up on his back legs to pull towards anything. He also dips his head eating every stone or bottletop in sight. I wonder if a canny collar would help ME?
Our adorable Doxie, Jimmy Dean, is like a cannon the minute we open the door to walk him. He does the same thing, in addition to barking continuously so loud, when he sees someone or something across the street. We used to use a harness because we feel bad that he’ll choke. But, with this bad behavior, we have no choice but to use a choker.
