Dogs Rule At The Box Office

Marley & Me has been at the box office number one spot for two weeks in a row, proving who the top dog is.
According to Box Office Mojo, it’s “the third-highest grossing dog movie on record,” a coveted position, as we all know. It falls behind only Scooby-Doo (really? That movie?) and 101 Dalmatians, and is fast approaching the top of that list.
Remember the success of Beverly Hill Chihuahua in 2008? Even with mixed reviews it proved to be a commercial success, hitting the number one spot a few weekends in a row. With the recent release of Beethoven’s Big Break (made for DVD) and the upcoming film Hotel for Dogs it shows that dog movies aren’t a phase, they’re here to stay.
The movie industry has finally picked up on what dog lovers knew all along, there is a big market out there. As long as the movies are a commercial success, even if panned by the critics, there will be more to come.
Marley & Me has had its share of mixed reviews. Have any Dogsters seen it? Give me a bark and let me know what you thought, did it get a paws up or down?

I saw the movie and it was good but you did need the kleenex, actually you needed a whole roll of paper towel. I forgot to take any of that and had to use theater knapkins. Do you know how cheap they are? I had to use a bunch.
The movie was good but, the book was much better.
I need to read the book, then see the movie!
Looks good!
Although the book is better, “Marley and Me” the movie is definitely worth watching. As Carole mentioned above, you’ll definitely need kleenex (or a wad of theater napkins)! The movie is also hilarious. It’s great b/c it’s not your typical movie that involves the girl trying to get a guy, or vice versa. It’s a genuine movie about family and unconditional love with an adorable Labrador in the mix
3 our 4 paws UP in my opinion!
I saw the movie after I read the book… the book is better but the movie was excellent. I laughed until I cried and then I litteraly bawled my eyes out… my chin was quivering. I was definately a mess when I left the theater… I rushed home and gave my pups the biggest hug ever.. EVERY dog lover should definately see this movie. It really makes you appreciate every second you have with you dogs.
Definitely an enjoyable movie. I went expecting to be a little disappointed because the book is so good and movies rarely do justice to the book they’re based on, but was pleasantly surprised. We had a great time and particularly liked the way the family issues were dealt with to show that not everything was peaches and cream. Roger Ebert’s review does a good job of putting the film in perspective. 3 out of 4 paws up.
I saw the movie on Christmas day. As others have warned, tissue is definitely a necessity.
Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston have good on-screen chemistry together. Their struggles with Marley are quite comical. It also depicted their challenges after the children were born and it was done very realistically. Kathleen Turner’s role as a dog trainer was a little weird, especially after not having seen her in several years – drastic change in appearance and I thought her acting was subpar. :/
I wouldn’t say it’s a great movie, but a good one that you can sit comfortably and enjoy. I would give it a 3 out of 4 stars.
My husband and I both LOVED it and yes, we both cried, he sniffing audibly and me more silently but with tears rolling down my cheeks.
I had read the book and for once I actually found the movie BETTER than the book. We went home and loved up on our big old Lab mix.
i loved marley and me. it was so sweet but very sad at the end. i cried the whole time they were at the vets.sob sob
I saw the movie and I thought it was great! Great- but really sad. I bawled at the end.
i just came back from the movie and i bawled all through the car ride and since we have a YELLOW LAB,it made me cry even more.boo hoo:( ……but its a great movie
My husband and I went and saw the movie. I had read the book and knew what was going to happen. He didn’t. We both needed a box of Kleenx. It was wonderful and heart warming.
Marley and Me is just the best movie. There was no dry eye when we left. It was such a great way to express a dog and thw owner. Make sure to bring lots of tissues!!
I was disappointed, having read the book, it seemed the movie was more about the relationship of the family than it was about the dog. But it was still good for laughs and tears – the book is wonderful and if you haven’t read it, you should!
