Blankets Of Love…Spread The Warmth

There’s a wonderful organization, Operation Blankets of Love, that was started in California to help supply shelter animals with blankets for their cages to make them more comfortable.
Dear Animal Lovers,
How would you feel if your pet was in a shelter lying in a cage on a cold hard cement floor? You arrive at the shelter to adopt a family pet to see many of these abused, neglected and abandoned animals shivering and feeling isolated in their cages. Many of these dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are euthanized if they are not adopted because of the crisis of pet overpopulation.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL) was established in mid-January 2008. Our goal is to ensure that all homeless animals waiting to be adopted be as comfortable as possible by providing blankets, comforters, pet beds, towels, and other pet related items.
This is such a simple, but terrific, concept. Everyone has old blankets they don’t use, now you can drop them off to one of the participating shelters where it will be put to good use. Hopefully this will spread around the country so all animals entering a shelter will have a little bit of comfort.
To find out the drop-off locations or how you can become a friend of Operation Blankets of Love stop by their site for all the details.

That is such a great idea! Binx has extra blankets and even a couple fluffy dog beds that he doesn’t use. We are going to call the local shelters here in Orlando to see if they would like them!
Great idea. I’ll contact the Nebraska Humane Society here in Omaha to see if they would accept extra blankets as well.
MISA – we just clicked onto your link and do not see what the heck it has to do with this blog for blankets for pets! Wish that I had not opend it actually
My mom has been making these for her local shelter for about six years now and has made 1,000’s of them. She accepts donated fabric but only uses new blankets, fleece, or mattress pads to fill them. Our shelter sends the blanket home with the adopting family so the pet has something familiar in a new environment.
Mom only hopes that it helps the furry friends have a more comfortable transition.
She jokingly says she does it because none of the animals have complained that it doesn’t fit or is the wrong color!
This should be on tearjerker.
We signed up for the email updates. We will find what we have in towels and blankets to donate locally.
p.s. FYI — some of the links on site arent working… like list of drop off locations.
What a great idea. Most shelters are grateful for any help they can get.
All but one of our pets have been rescued, so we have a special place in our heart for animal shelters. This is a great idea! Another great idea seen in our community was the opening of a thrift store where all the proceeds benefit our local animal shelter.
It’s a good woof… and more woof… again…woof…
That’s great! I am so happy that shelter dogs can get as much comfort as dogs at home. God bless shelter dogs..
so now this concept has a name? well, that’s great but… i’ve been doing this for years now… collecting bedding for shelter dogs and dispersing it here and there to shelters. either way… good it has a name. my dog, meatball, was enjoying two very comfy comforters when i went to adopt him. keep up the good work and spread the news far and wide!
This is fantastic!
I bought some at garage sales cheap & donated to my vets doggy hospital last year. Next time I will donate them to the Humane Society locally. (I hadn’t thought of it before..duh)
I will be “shopping” for blankets/comforters this summer at garage/yard sales for these needy animals.
They need all the help they can get.
