Dog Beaten, But Not Down
Horst Hoefinger

I reported earlier on Murphy who was  found beaten in a park. We just got an update on his progress. Murphy is walking!

The 9-year-old German shepherd mix was able to stand up on his own Thursday morning, walk and come to people, said Stephen Pope, the veterinarian and medical director at the Dunwoody Pets Are People Too, where Murphy is being treated.

Focus on Murphy has shifted from worries of brain damage to getting him to eat, Pope said. Because of the shock, veterinarians are worried he may have trouble keeping food down but plan to begin working with him today.

Robert Kennedy who found Murphy while walking his dog has offered to pay for all the bills. This is an exceedingly generous offer seeing as the cost has already hit $3,000, and could reach $6,000. Not only has this wonderful man offered to pay for Murphy’s care he also plans on adopting him.

Offers have been pouring in to help Murphy so a trust fund has been set up. Donors can make a gift at Wachovia Bank, to the Murphy the Dog account, number 1010209642669.  Their number is (770) 452-1001.
The bank is located at 4280 N Peachtree Road in Atlanta, Georgia 30341. The article says donations can be made to any Wachovia, you may want to call to confirm this information.

Investigators are still looking for people who saw anything unusual in the park from 9 p.m. Monday until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses should call 404-294-2818.

Poor beautiful Murphy. I just saw this story (the earlier one and this one). I will NEVER understand how anyone could hurt a poor defenceless animal. I looked at the pics of Murphy at the vet clinic and the look in his eyes is haunting – almost as if he is so confused that someone could have hurt him like that and doesn’t understand it.

I don’t understand it either. All my prayers are with Murphy (and what a special man Mr Kennedy is, bless him). As for the scum who did it – may he get what’s coming to him and what he so richly deserves.

What a wonderful man. He saved this dog’s life in THREE ways. It just goes to show you there are SOME good people in this world.

I am so proud of the guy who found Murphy and is willing to do so much. I wish them the very best and that God will smile on them all. It is nice to have good news about Murphy he has grit and deserves some kindness and I think he has found it.

Way to go, Murphy! He deserves all of our best wishes and thoughts and prayers, as does his wonderful benefactor. I know I’ll stop by my local Wachovia branch tomorrow and see if I can donate to the cause.

I read this story earlier, I’m so happy Murphy is doing better. This story has me so choked up I’m fighting back tears for this poor dog. What could have he possibly have done to deserve that. I myself am an dog owner. And I rescued her, not a day gos by that I don’t hug her and spoil the hell out of her. I pray to God that this sack of shit gets what he deserves. God Bless Mr. Kennedy. You go guy.

I’m so angry, I can’t believe this guy has a 25,ooo dollar bail. He don’t deserve a bail. Let him rot. I’m besides myself. I hate this guy. Thank God Murphy is doing so much better. My heart is broken that this happen to this poor.dog. I most deffinately will make a donation. You are the best Robert Kennedy.

This guy could have given his dog up to a good dog rescue if he hated the dog so much he wanted to beat him to death. Why? If the idiot had thought things through maybe he would have considered the possiblity that he might get caught & have to pay the consequences for his actions. He needs some kind of help for his rage as well as some good jail time where he can spend some time thinking over the consequences of his actions while he works in prison. How could he do something so heinous? Nothing the dog did could warrant this sort of behavior Dion the CatDog and Meli Mom

I am both heart broken and full of joy over this story. Both of my baby boys are rescue dogs. My oldest one Spike we don’t know how he come to be in my mother’s back yard that day either someone saw that we and our neighbors had dogs and droped him off hoping that one of us would take him in or he got loose and found his way there (my mother lives in the country and has only a few neighbors) but no one tried to find him. My baby Houdini at all of about 7 weeks old was taken to the local Walmart and when the owners of his mother couldn’t get rid of him they droped him off on the side of the road Thank God someone found him and took him to the Humane Society where we found him. Now they both are spoiled absolutely rotten and are such good boys I don’t see how a sane person could be so cruel to such loving animals. My Partner and I think that this and all evil people that could do something like this to an animal should feel what that animal felt. Cudos to you Mr Kennedy if I was able I would contribute to Murphy’s care, and may God be with the 2 of you and bring Murphy to a complete recovery with no ill effects.

  10. Cara

god help us all if this is what it has come to. I would have taken him in and at least found him a loving home or givin him one. he did not deserve this. god help us all..

  11. Kit

Mr. Waters is a monster! Mr. Kennedy is an angel. He is truly speaking “for those who have no voice”.

  12. Debbie

I can not understand how anyone could do something so horrid to such a beautiful animal. My heart is broken and I am praying for a full recovery for Murphy. Hang in there Murphy there are a lot of folks rooting for you BIG TIME!!!!

  13. Olga Diaz

25, 0000 dollar bail? he shouldn’t've been bailed, period this is such a vile act he doesn’t deserve it.

Mr Kennedy is just wonderful, he should be awarded a medal and the honor to take a hammer to the SOB’s head who tried to kill Murphy.

  14. Rebecca

Sweet Murphy I wish you a speedy recovery and the monster that did this to you may he rot in hell. You are a lucky fellow to have Mr. Kennedy in your life you will be loved now. Thank you Mr. kennedy for the kindness that you have showed this beautiful creature.God Bless You

  15. Fergy

Sweet Murphy – I wish I could give you hugs and kisses but, since I cannot, I will send up my prayers for strength for you and the medical team working on you to facilitate your swift recovery! My prayers will also go up for blessings on your rescuer and future Daddy! Thank you Mr. Kennedy!!!!!!!

Murphy boy, you are now loved so much by so many that you should be able to feel it!!!!!!!

  16. nina

    thank you mr. kennedy!
murphy, sending you all our love.

  17. Susan

I pray for Murphy’s continued recovery and thank you Mr. Kennedy for saving his life! As for the monster who did this to Murphy I think the judge should make HIM pay for Murphy’s medical bills and pay Mr. Kennedy “x” number of dollars a month for Murphy’s care for as long as he lives. The restitution should be paid BEFORE he rots in the jail cell. Also a huge poster size picture of Murphy should be hung in the monster’s cell so it can haunt him (that is if he has a conscience which it doesn’t appear he does).
