Marley & Me…Win A 2009 Calendar

In September Purina’s Marley & Me video contest began, contestants sent in videos of their dog(s) showing what makes them unique, rascally and one-of-a-kind.
The videos poured in, the judges have now narrowed down the entries to the final twelve. One of the finalists is our very own Dogster member Jack, a beautiful Golden Retriever.
Jack was adopted two years ago, after his owners lost two of their Goldens within three weeks of each other. They were very sad and lonely, the house way too quiet. Shortly after their heartbreaking loss they found out about a litter of Golden puppies, and Jack found his forever home.
Now through December 5th you can join in the fun and vote , for Jack or your favorite video. The winner gets a very cool prize, a trip to Hollywood for the premier of Marley & Me.
If you missed out on entering the contest, don’t worry, there’s still a chance to win a prize. The great folks at Purina have been kind enough to give Dogster 25 Marley & Me 2009 Calendars for a giveaway. To enter leave a comment, in the comment section, about what makes your dog unique or rascally.
The contest will run today through Friday, November 28th when I will pick 25 winners at random.
This is a very cute calendar, good luck.

Jack and I thank you so much for the blog entry, and we want to thank everyone who votes for us. We love Dogster and all our pals here. Everyone is so nice and supportive. Wow! we are overwhelmed.
Love and Wags,
Stephanie and Jack
Bella knows that I make the dogs all go potty one last time before I leave for work. She does not appreciate being left at home, so she will park herself in the middle of the yard and not come in. I call, she just stares at me. I go after her, she runs…I generally have to get the leash and pretend we are going for a walk before she will come to me.
ConDOGulations, Jack!!!
What makes Spike unique is that he “talks” at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. sharp if he has not been given his Greenie treats at those specific times. He will start out making little “roo-roo” sounds that only Schnauzers do. If we have not paid attention to him the roo-roos become louder. Then he will start making huffy puffy noises which are hard to explain, along with the roo-roo sounds, but it gets our attention. Once we give him the Greenie he’s fine; eats it then goes to look out the front glass door.
My little dashaund is so unique, he would play catch 24/7 if you let him and hes the fastest runner I have ever seen! He will not eat his food unless he puts his toy in the bowl with the food! Also he loves presents everytime I come home with bags from shopping he has to look in the bags to see if he has a gift! We love him, go Dashaunds!
When Ping is done doing his business outside, he wont come back in unless you tell him lets go get a pupcorn treat, which he loves. When he gets in he goes straight to the cabinet, sits and waits by the cabinet door to get his treat. He also loves to play keep away with the tennis ball. he brings the ball to you and drops it by your feet and he will move back and forth with his feet until you kick it!
Its the personaility that sets him apart from other dogs. Chuppy is the most goofiest golden you can find, he loves having a great time, but always finds himself in trouble. After every single walk, you would lay on the grass, and roll around in it to get nature’s scent! Its very amusing to see because he enjoys himself alot. At home, he either eats, sleeps, plays, or has the zoomies, which causes much excitment in the house. If you play Fetch with him, he runs like crazy and jumps al over the place to get to the ball! He even once wanted the ball so badly that he went into a rose bush to try and get it! Imediately I hauled him out to not get him hurt from the thorns. The goofinest that makes him him, and the high spirited dog that makes him a great friend, and family member.
I have 3 dogs, a German Shepard mix, Tipper, male; a Border Collie mix, Oreo, male; and a Am Staff bully breed mix, Lady, female. They all have teir own personalities. Tipper though he is listed as a shepard mix, he really does not look the part. He is very laid back and does not make any trouble. But now take Oreo, he is smaller, but yet he tries to be the Alpha Male. He has this little way of holding his head and a look so puzzling. He will climb on anything. Now Lady is my Social Butterfly. She is a very laid back girl. When the boys do have their problems, she will set back and look at me, like “Mama, the boys are nuts” and if they don’t listen to me and stop what the are doing, usually a disagreement, after a few moments, she will get tired of it and won’t join in, but dart in and out barking for them to stop. And even if I lay down on the couch, she will get upon me and stretch out on my side. These may not really unquie. But they are unique to me and in their own way.
Congrats Jack !! You totally got my vote…
What makes my Shelby unique? it would have to be her singing !! We rescued her from New Spirit Aussie Rescue three months ago and while I knew there would be a time of adjustment for all of us, I never thought that would mean that the singing part of her would come singing through !!
She sings while she plays, she sings a little while we are out on a walk, she sings a bit when she gets a good dinner…and she sings when we walk in the door…
Check out Shelbys page (number 865048) soon – i am trying to get a video up there so everyone can see her talent !
Besides Laney’s unique looks (Shar Pei head on a Beagle body), she is probably the only Beagle mix that is so picky with her food. Training with her can be difficult, as she is not food motivated! At all.
She also won’t sit or lay down on cold, hard surfaces such as tile or linoleum. Only soft surfaces for this princess! Even our dog trainer had to give her a blanket for her to do her tricks on.
My puppy Bentley is unique because he knows each of his toys “names”. (He has about 20 toys) Like if I say go get your ball toy, he’ll go bring me the ball. If I say go get your whale toy, he’ll bring me the whale stuffed animal. Bentley loves going out for walks. When he see me get his leash he’ll do these really high jumps and get really excited but when I tell him to sit and wait, he stops being all excited so that he can go for his walk. Bentley also loves to go into his purse! He’ll jump into the purse, then I’ll pick it up and we are off to meet people!
My Husky, Skye, has a morning routine. He comes in and jumps on our bed early and rears up on his hind legs [the Lone Ranger & his horse used to do] and ‘talking’ to us, saying it’s time to feed him and his dogmates, Lily & Maddie. Then he runs back in and starts his spin-bonkers routine, woofing in each direction. He also lets us know if Husky Lily needs to go out if we aren’t quick to open the door for her. He comes and barks in our face, and after we get up and let Lily out, Skye goes and sits looking very satisfied he did his job of taking care of Lily.
Brenda , my mixed breed dog has always been a little rascal. We had to fence the house because of her and Bob our Chihuahua. They would get out of the house and take long walks around the neighborhood. We live downtown so a lot of people knew them. A dog walker was so kind to catch them every time they went out for walks alone. I dont know what I would have done without the help of that guy! Sometimes Brenda and Bob would run blocks in a few minutes. We had to start a search by car and another person walking. I dont miss those days when we didnt have puppy proof fence.
My Bessie is very unique and charming all due to a very cute underbite she has. When I was in the process of adopting her,the staff where she was living was afraid that because of her underbite,I would change my mind and not want her.But she is my girl no matter what, and her underbite makes her special.
Whoa! Congrats Jack!
What makes ME rascally? Please, rascal is my middle name. I jump up in peoples faces, eat Roxy’s food, heck I even go for walks without mom! (she gets mad when I do that for some reason). But at the end of the day, I love to curl up with mom on the couch and……FART
Belgian may look to you like your ordinary chocolate Labrador retriever but once you meet him you will realize he is no ordinary dog….let alone lab. Before getting Belgian I was severely traumatized by something in my past. I was literally afraid of my own shadow and hated to be alone. Once I got Belgian, everything had then changed. I had someone I knew I could trust. He has given me and taught me some of the most important things in life. Getting him has also raised my confidence. I am no longer araid to be alone. Especially when Belgian is with me, I feel like a new person. He encourages me every day to do something I wouldn’t normally do and has helped me transform into someone that isn’t afraid to show who she really is. He’s my best friend and always makes me feel better when i am down. If I am crying he rests that big block chocolate head on my lap and wags his thick otter tail gently on the ground with his warm hazel eyes looking into mine. He always helps by giving me that grin that labbies always do.
He understands that with smaller kids and elderly people he can’t be so hyper. Around senior citizens he is very gentle. If they walk up he gets up and follows behind him very closley. If they are in walkers he walks right beside the walker and when the person with the walker sits down he sits in front of the walker. He lives to be around kids. He has never met a kid that wasn’t his friend. He loves going up to kids with his frisbee and just tilt his head and drop the frisbee at their feet hoping for a game of fetch. With older kids he gives them high fives. He loves soccer and the kids have a blast kicking the ball and keeping it away from the old chocolate boy.
At the end of the day Belgian makes sure he has at least a few minutes with everyone in the household and then he is off to bed until another day of fun.
Belgian is one of the best friends I have ever had. I have to thank him so much for everything he has taught me and continues and has yet to teach me. He is a great dog and I love him so much. I do not know where I would be without him. Yeah he may be a handful at times and yea I will get frustrated but at the end of the day that is all gone because the amount of loyalty he gives me is more then I could ever wish for.
He is truley a woman’s best friend
What makes Cookie rascally?? She actually enjoys sitting on a bench instead of the ground. I took Cookie with me to the vet and my mom refused to have Cookie lay on the ground; see my mom thinks Cookie would pick up germs and I replied Mom, Cookie won’t sit on the bench. Sure enough Cookie pusher her way in between my mom and I and sat herself on the bench. I couldn’t believe it. My mom babysits her and I guess she taught her that. I sometimes think Cookie my dog is human. She has a way about her she fetches when she wants to and won’t take treats from strangers!!! LOL
CONGRATS JACK….YOU ARE SO CUTE AND YOU LOOK ADORABLE HOLDING THAT SIGN …
GOOD LUCK LIL GUY ,,,,
Congrats Jack! And check out his Splish Splash video on his Dogster page… gotta love that Jack!
Lily is rascally. She will go outside and run around the yard real fast getting the dogs on either side of us, and across the alley, all worked up barking and jumping. Lily who rarely barks will then hide and look around like “who started all that comotion?” She is a fun mixture of diva and tomboy. She loves to climb and run fast, but she hates to get her feet wet and is such a little princess inside the house.
Congratulations, jack!
Ty got new shampoo and conditioner for her 1st birthday along with all of her other toys. To show us how excited she was to use her new soaps, she went outside and rolled in manure! She found out how great her new suds were very quickly and was clean for the rest of her day!
Charley is our Marley! He is a rescue and has an independent spirit. He once tried to jump through a closed window to try to get to a squirrel outside. As he was trying to land, his back legs kicked into the drywall below the window creating a good sized hole. He made the hole bigger and bigger in the following weeks by pulling on the drywall.
Congrats to Jack..he snagged my vote!
We refer to Bo as “Houdini” dog. He’s a marvel at opening the gate on our fence and his cage door. Of course, once Bo gets out of the gate, he won’t go anywhere…he usually comes and sits on the front porch until the neighbors call me and tell me he’s out again. We finally McGyvered a cotter pin in the gate latch so he can’t nose it up anymore and push it open. He does the same thing with his cage. He’ll only stay in there so long while I’m gone. When Bo decides he’s done, he’s done. Somehow he manages to get both latches open and I’ll usually pull into the driveway to find him staring out the front window. That’s probably after he had himself a good ‘ole time ripping up my toilet paper and making himself comfortable on my couch (which he knows he’s not supposed to be on).
We think Daisy Mae is unique because she has a bionic back!! LOL not really but she is unique in that she survived anaphylactic shock twice now and made a full recovery from back surgery.
She is one of the happiest dogs I have ever known, even giving a tail wag in her darkest times.~
Duke is unique in that he is the smallest and youngest of all the pups yet he is the biggest protector. Bites at the others to keep them behind him!
Nugget, well he dominates the cat. That’s all I want to say about that!! LOL
Maggie gives me 10 minutes on the phone, then figures I’ve talked enough. She has a “temper tantrum” in the middle of the floor, rolling, jumping and yelping until I hang up. Then she’s fine. Of course, her sisters Penny and Daisy are too ladylike to do that. Their look says “how undignified.”
My daddy says I’m unique because of my “poop dance.” Whenever I really need to go potty, I spin counter clockwise over and over and over again. I’ll even spin as I move closer to the back door to go to the yard!
Our dog Jiggs is a little bit more than rascally, he’s a brat. Jiggs loves to rifle through my purse and if I forget and leave it within his reach I pay dearly. 2 weeks ago he found my Blackberry and promptly tried calling all his friends, needless to say my phone was crushed. Before that he found my sun glasses and all that was left were bits and pieces throughout the house and unfortunately I don’t buy cheap sunglasses. The cheapest thing he ate was a pack of Wrigleys Gum. We had a little discussion about the phone and hopefully have come to an understanding ………….. if he wants to call his Dogster furends he needs to ask and I’ll dial the number.
SAMSON is adorable – but its not because he is just physically cute – its because of his personality!
My little boy is such the gentleman – always respectful to my friends & family. He gives them a warm ‘arooo’, as a welcome and then sits and lift his paw to shake.
They always reply – “How adorable is that!”
What make’s Murphy so unique is the way he plays! He plays on his back with his paws, he will take the toy in his mouth then grab it from his mouth this his paws and play like that for a good hour. it’s so cute!
My name is Hector Yulee, I’m a 2 12lb chihuahua STUD I have won many contests for being the smallest dog & the best kisser. I am always with my Mom and sisters protecting them & of course giving them all lots of kisses. I’m friendly with people & my mom tells me I have the cutest face she’s ever seen. Most of all I let people pet me & give my kisses freely, I love to see all the smiles they bring.
What I love about Lady is how she smiles and is always so friendly. She loves attention and will nudge you gently to pet her.
My yellow lab, an 18 month old yellow lab has managed to eat one chair and one couch since I brought her home in April of 2007. While furniture would not be the normal cuisine for most canines, apparently she has developed a taste for it. She has eaten my tv remote control (which I lease from the cable company). I was embarrassed to bring it in to be exchanged, as it was obviously mangled. She also got a hold of a full jar of peanut butter which I had stupidly left on the counter in the kitchen. I got home from work and found the mangled lid in the middle of the living room floor. Not finding the jar itself, I immediately brought her to the vet thinking she had managed to eat the jar. Nothing showed up on the ultrasound. I found the sad little jar a week later, with about a 1/4 of an inch of peanut butter on the bottom. She is my joy and my best friend, but what a challenge.
Kenyon came with the house we bought 13 years ago. When we first moved in, she had this little routine where she’d walk in the barnyard to check her pee mail. We lived in the country so when she had to go, we just opened the door and let her out. One night hubby opened the door and let her back in without doing a cheek check. She darted past him and raced for the bedroom. There on the floor she dropped the “gift” she sneaked in.
I saw it first. I screamed. Kenyon hopped with terrier glee. She was so excited. She arfed as loud as Kenyon could arf.
At first glance the “gift” appeared to be a wad of leaves and dirt. Upon closer inspection it was determined to be a glob of rotting flesh and “stuff” complete with slime and maggots. I gagged. Kenyon hopped.
My husband shrieked exactly like a little girl, “Oh my God, it has a beak!” (more gagging)
Kenyon was even more excited at this. Obviously proud of the gift she shared she ran in circles and zoomed around the bedroom. My sweet little hopping girl seemed to delight in watching us clean the carpet in the middle of the night! Arf!!!
It was most definitely a terrier moment. I’ve always thought that it should be a requirement that EVERYONE should own at least one terrier in their lives. They can be little devils. lol Much to little Kenyon’s chagrin, she never got to come in the house again without having a cheek check.
Her passing left an empty spot in our hearts that will never be filled.
My girl Fancy is unique because she has survived 2 bouts with AIHA (Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia) We almost lost her the first time, was told if we would have waited another 24 hours to bring her in we would have lost her. After many visits with our vet who could not get her blood counts to go in the right direction a specialist found that she also had Evans syndrome. Fancy was started on a massive dose of Prednisone along with a back up drug, Imuran. It was a delicate balancing act which required constant blood work but after 3 years and cutting the doses down to what seemed like nothing and several blood test with good results Fancy was taken off the drugs. Fancy was doing great and was back to her quirky self however 2 month later we noticed symptoms of the AIHA. We called her vet who meet us at the office and confirmed that her illness was back. She wasn’t as bad as the first time and I think that’s because we knew what to look for. We immediately put her back on the drugs. I am happy to say that her last 2 blood draws, all her counts are in the normal range. The vet told us she will stay on a very small dose of both drugs for the rest of her life.
Tyler actually believes in his heart of heart that he is human. It’s so like the pinnocchio saga. I know one day, when he and I are having one of famous heart to heart talks; He look into my eyes and say “c’mon suck it up and move on” LOL
Dudley is my savior, he is there to make me smile every morning, he greets me every night. He loves me unconditionally and he knows how to make everything seem like it is all right. I love everything about him, even the way he poops, he is top dog in my book.
Roxanne is my 8 month old Great Dane. In 8 months, she has eaten a couch, a lounge chair, 3 TV remotes, one watch, and one Cell Phone. She plays with our neighbors 3 year old Mastiff and frolics through the puddles with my sister’s Dachshunds. She eats tons of Purina one. She loves baths, chases birds across the sky in our backyard. But, She has never won a calendar!!
Harley is a greyhound…retired from racing. He was running at 42mph. When he is not being a couch potato or racing in the yard he is a therapy dog. He loves going “bye-bye.” to visit foster children or cerebral palsy patients. We have volunteered in an animal assisted therapy program at a rehab center for 2 1/2 years. He recently donned his turkey head dress to entertain there for THanksgiving!! He would love a calendar!! Thank you, Woof, Woof xo,from Harley
I guess you’d have to say what is special about Frankie is that she is in a wheelchair. She has her own children’s book, “Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog.” She now visits children teaching them about looking for a positive choice to their challenges. She also brings a positive face to animals with disabilities. In Sept. 2008 she became registered as a therapy dog so she can bring joy to even more people. She now volunteers at a assisted senior facility, hospital and hospice center.
When she rolls in on her wheels with her head high, smiles automatically form on all faces!
Barbara, a.k.a. Frankie’s Mom

My 100 lb German Shepherd ‘Hans’ lives (& loves) with 3 inside cats. But chases after the barn cats like they are a whole different species.
MATÍAS IS A YELLOW LAB, AND WELL HE IS UNIQUE BECAUSE MY FAMILY AND MYSELF REALLY, REALLY SPOILED HIM ALOT, SO HE IS KIND OF ANOTHER MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY, HE BARKS, HE ASKS, HE SCREAMS, HE FETCH ALL THE TIME, SO, BELIEVE ME HE IS UNIQUE!!!
I have a 160lb Great Dane puppy, and he believes everything on my kitchen counter is his! I went to the laundry room after putting a cake to cool on the counter, he promptly walked over the baby gate,(wich he has never done before!) and he helped himself to about 1/4 of the cake before I found him! I now have to guard them with my life!As if that is not enough, He is unique simply because he is so huge, and loves everyone! He shows this by sitting in anyones Lap!Blue Boy is a trip.
I have three dogs, Toby, Maddie & Cody, Toby is a hound-husky mix that “talks” to us by woo wooing his wishes and desires. He even woo woos at the other dogs. He lets Cody know when he wants him to get out of his favorite chair by woo wooing at him until Cody gets down and lets Toby have the chair. Toby is a counter-surfer extraordinaire, he once got most of a pizza out of the box without removing the box from the kitchen counter. Maddie always lets me know when it’s dinner time by coming over and using this sound that she never uses any other time, it sounds like “murph”. But it means Mom, I’m hungry. She has a delightful personality and helps the rescue group I work with earn money by wearing their donation jacket at events. She’s so friendly everyone wants to put a little something in her jacket. Cody is a Korean Jindo and very agile. He can jump over my couch from a standing position which is a little unnerving if you happen to be sitting on the couch at the time. He’s also very cuddly, he does something we call “giving face” where he gets close to you and puts his face up against your cheek. He saves this for people he really really likes. They are each so special, they make life so much more interesting.
I think all fur babies are special. Not only do they provide companionship & friendship, they provide unconditonal love. Doesn’t matter to them how old you are, what you look like, or how much money you may or may not have. They love you irregardless and without judgement. That’s
what makes ALL fur babies special in their own way.
okay here goes I am half red heeler and german shepard so I can get into all kinds of trouble in an instant. Well me and mom were headed towards the barn when walla we came upon a flock of turkeys. I started to chase and they started to fly for the oak trees, mom looked up while they were going over head and lets just say it’s a good thing she wears glasses and has a wonderful sense of humor. It didn’t help her jacket any, but after a good laugh we went on to the barn. Me feeling proud to have chased of turkeys and her grinning from ear to ear.
We are so proud of our friend Jack for being a finalist in the Marley & Me video contest! It was pawsome to see him on primetime television during the National Dog Show yesterday. Wouldn’t it be great to see a Dogster on the Red Carpet in Hollywood at the premiere of Marley & Me? Hey, maybe Jack would take me with him?!?! No, probably not because he knows the red carpet would never be the same after me . . .I bet Marley wet a few carpets in his lifetime!!
Woofs from Wesley
To me Tango is extremely unique. He is a 10 year old American Cocker Spaniel who has the heart and soul of a mischievous child. He knows what’s going to happen before we even do anything. If we have to go to dr and leave him at home he usually starts to pout before we even start to get ready. He has these big brown eyes that look at you from the depths of his soul. He reminds me of a fawn with his button brown nose and deep brown eyes. I may never ever win anything regarding him but that’s ok as I have the best prize of all-TANGO!
Just like Marley I am a BIG Goofy lab. I wouldn’t call myself “rascally” so much as accident prone, BOL! My tail gets me in the most trouble, always knocking things over and whacking people. My mouth does some damage too, mostly drool damage
I can’t WAIT to see Marley and Me in theatres. Mom read the book out loud to me, and we laughed and cried at the great story. I would LOVE to have a calender to look at all year long!
Woofs, Sammy
My little girl is only one and a half years old. She is a Shih Tzu. She is a certified therapy dog and also my service dog. When Stormy is finished with a therapy visit she stands on her hind legs and walks down the hall like a human. She has become a big hit with all the residents she visits. Stormy has also learned playing with the other dogs, that she kung fu shih tzu’s them. She runs and leaps into the air and swings around and connects with her hind legs. She lays on her back and practices this at home. I can’t wait to see Marly and Me and would love to have a calender. Cyndi Stone
My youngest shiba inu, Deshi put his foot in my oatmeal. Then, later that same day on the way to a dog meetup he chewed up both his leash as well as my other shiba Tetsuya’s leash. And I thought he was napping in the backseat.
Our dog “Zuni” is a sweetie!! We checked the Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue website on a regular basis, hoping to find a female to adopt. One day there was what we hoped would be “the one”- she was a yellow female in a kid’s pool. She was wet from head to tail. Long story, short, she’s the “one”!! Now our “pack” is complete…. We couldn’t be happier!!
My dog Hunter is a wonderful dog – he is a resue dog and when I first got him he wouldn’t come back and we would play this game for hours until he finally tired out – this went on for about a month. After that month Hunter became the perfect dog. Hunter is blind and this has never stopped him for being a regular loving companion.
My Dolly definitely does not get mad, she gets even. Anytime she feels slighted or left out, she will do something to get back at me. A few days after I had adopted her, I told my roommate I was going to the park, meaning Busch Gardens. Dolly got all excited and wouldn’t let me out of the door. I finally had to gently shove her aside so I could leave. When I came home that day, she snubbed me most of the evening. When I got ready to go to bed that night, mind now that I have a kingsize bed, I discovered she had peed on my bed, in the very spot where I sleep. I figured out that park meant doggie park to her, so now I have to be very careful to say Busch instead of park when I leave.
