Why is it that the laws for person to person crimes keep getting stronger? But if you abuse an animal you only get 6 months and a $1,000 dollar fine its like no one cares about these. Animals who are abused they take lots of love and time and lots of patients as well. I got a shepard mix 6 years ago and was abused by my friends neighbor,daughter,and boyfriend now her huaband . It really makes me mad when animals get abused and no one in congress or our law makers gives a dam. Lets tighten up the laws for our animals and protect the ones that are getting abused.
this is a real pet peeve of mine. A poor animal has no rights and then to abuse them is wrong. do not have any if that is the way you are. the animal deserves so much more. I totally agree, if the punishment were the same for a poor animal as a human maybe they would think it over. The judges have to realize animals have a right also. If anyone is caught delibertly abusing they need the same punishment as if abusing a child. It’s a good thing I am not a judge.
Abuse of animals is wrong in any language! Let’s end all abuse, including that horrible “sport” of dog fighting. Judges need to get TOUGH!
It just breaks your heart to see dogs and cats, and any animal for that matter abused. I don’t understand what goes through peoples minds…….if you live in MA, please vote yes on Prop 3 to end dog racing. thanks, love your animal, the best friend you can have. woof.

It makes no sense; if you have no intention of taking care of your pets then you should not have gotten one. No one said you had to get a pet. Owners and others should be help accountable for any and all cruelty actions and behaviors.

I’m a dog “mom”- all 3 of our dogs are rescues! There is NO excuse for animal abuse!!
I have 12 rescue dogs and 2 rescue horses, each one of them, sadly, has a story of abuse to tell. How sad and needless! Nobody forces anyone to adopt an animal, why take an animal and abuse it? It’s beyond my comprehension.
Hi Everyone especially the animals,
I hate to hear on the TV or in the newpaper that an animal has been beaten, pulled by the back of a car etc, I could go on and on. They only ask for love from humans and what do some of these humans do, they abuse them to no end. When I come home at night I am very tired, but when I get out of the car, my two dogs know that I am home and they are waiting for me to open the door to say hello, They give kisses and run around the room. I then feel so happyh and not tired. They have a way of making me glad that I am home. You take care of them ane they will help you ten fold. They never get angry , so why do humans have to hurt or abuse them. Humans that do this deserve to have the same treatment done to them. Our laws are not strict enough and this should be done, as these animals cannot talk for themselves, we have to talk for them. So please, do ;not abuse – love them
No animal deserves to be hurt in any way,If I was in a position I would treat all people that abuse animals in any with the death penalty as all animals are vulnerable to humans as we are the stronger of the two…..
I had to put a dog to sleep on October 20th and it broke our hearts ,I don’t understand why people hurt these beautiful animals.
I cannot stand to read about cruelty to animals. I almost obsess thinking that right now, this minute, every day, someone is hurting an animal in some way. If I ever saw someone abusing an animal, I’m afraid of what I would do to that person. I’m thin and no fighter, but the anger in me would rise to the top. I just don’t get what the payoff is for monsters who abuse animals. It just breaks my heart, big-time.
Abuse should be treated as a felony. Animals ask for nothing and give everything.
my wife and i have siberian huskies we used to have ten we have only 4 now as we get older it is harder to look after them. we live in scotland but it disgust`s me when i see on tv the way animals are treated is some parts of the states texas being the worst i have seen in their treatment of horses the animal that helped make america, i am not tarring everybody with the same brush only the ones who should not be allowed to own any kind of animal and your laws are better than ours when it comes to taking action agenst these people

if you don’t want the animal or can’t afford to care for it. give to someone else or to a shelter. don’t just dump it so it can starve to death or get hit by a car. we should also have low cost pet spaying and nuturing available to those who can’t afford it for one reason or another. less unwanted pets. puppy mills should also be put out of business.
I agre with these postings. I think animal cruelty should be a felony and should be no good time-work time. mandatory 20 years in Federal prison. Plus a fine. If the penalty is severe enough, maybe people would think tiwice about hurting “a dumb animal”
Beware of anyone who can harm an animal. If they can harm an animal, they can harm humans.

Well I live in Arkansas, where it is not a felony to harm, any animal. I think it should be change to a felony. I adopted a little puggle, she was a puppy mill dog, from Sercy County. This is a terrible thing for the animals and it is happening everyday here in Arkansas and no one does anything about it. If they make tougher laws, then they make think twice. Jail time and a heavy heavy fine. If they harm animals they will also harm children and adults.
Our animals and pets need our voices to speak out on their behalf! We must protect them no matter what it costs. Would we not protect our children in the same manner?

I stopped sending money to the Natioonal Association for Cruelty to Animals because they waste so much of it sending thing back to us. I am now donating to my local one.
I hope this doesn’t prevent positive legislative acts from being passed. How can we locally help?

How anyone could neglect, or abuse an animal is beyond me. We’ve rescued 5 lovely creatures, who taught us how to love and be loved, UNCONDITIONALY. And it has to be the best love of all.
When you come home…they behave as though you were gone for an eternity! When you offer a ride or walk, they are beside themselves. When you are not felling well, they stay with you and keep you warm.
We’ve loved, and been loved, and thank them each day for it.
Have nbo idea what we would have done without them!
It’s just one of those things that makes me cry, just like when you hear about how someone has abused a child, the abuse of an animal is no different. Every year in Michigan, someone goes to a lake and aims an bow and arrow at a duck and they hit it. Last year, someone here left a plastic pumpkin out and a deers head got stuck in it. Cruelty is so sad and shameful. I love my Spunky dog and would be so upset if someone did something to him because he loves everyone he comes in contact with.
It sickens me how someone can be so cruel to an animal. Any kind of animal. I have 2 dog that were abused and the one I am still working on 2 years later to over come his fear of people. He is getting better!! I am also wishing that prop. 2 passes for the sake of the animals in California…

The way we respect and care for helpless animals shows the character of a single person and of a country. Neglect and cruelty at all levels must be stopped. There shouldn’t be a need for discussion on this, it should be a no brainer.

I have a 5 year old white maltese(we celebrated his B’day on 2nd of this month).When i return home after a tiring day at work,no one’s more exicted then BUNBUN(his real name Bunzai).I love the way he expresses himself how happy he is to see me after a long day.He is a blessing into my life.Cruelty to animals is extremly INHUMAN! Anyone who shows cruelty towards animals should be treated the same way back!!

I can’t fathom the idea of being cruel to a helpless animal. Intelligence brings responsibility to care for those less strong and less fortunate than ourselves. It is everyone’s job to educate others about animal rights and help those in need.
We have had quite a few dogs and cats over the years for people think that these wonderful, kind and friendly creatures are disposable. They help the elderly live longer and happy because they are companions to them. When they are rescued from a bad situation and their lives change – the loyalty is unfathomal. Please help us to help the helpless, since they reley on people.

I have a rescue dog and will get another one soon; it is so obvious they have been abused as it takes quite awhile for them to trust. But constant love and affection finally breaks the barriers of fear and distrust; our little boy bichon is the sweetest is the world. Anyone who abuses an animal should be held to the same criminal penalties that would be applied if they were perpetuating the act towards a human. I have noted neglect in our own neighborhood and called the ASPCA; I will not stand for abuse or neglect (leaving a dog tied up to a tree all day in the hot sun with little or no water and the lead so tight she couldn’t lay down). Anytime I see an animal being neglected or abused I will speak up. To me its a principle I have to live with – I could not live without it.
Anyone that abuses an animal should be put through the same abuse that they put the animal through. How can you look into the eyes of an innocent animal and hurt them?
I, of course vote against animal cruelty. I am Mommy to 2 dogs & 3 cats & 1/2 of them were abused &/or starved & abandoned before I got them. We are not rich but all are spayed/neutered & have their shots. They now have all the Love & Dignity they should have always had. In my whole extended family our furry babies are as important as our human babies.Please speak out against animal abuse. They have no voice to do it for themselves & if they did they would probably be speaking out for you.
People forget that God created the animals first as he knew they would all get along no matter what. To harm an innocent animal is going against what God created and will be punished. If you don’t like them that’s okay, just leave them alone. God will take care of them.

I have watched children abusing animals and have called police, but the district attorney won’t prosecute because it is not worth his time.

I think it is just awful that people who hurt animals are not punished more severly.

I am against animal cruelty and nothing angers me more than to see it right in front of your eyes i had a situation here in my community that i had to help with because it was not right. I gave the dogs food and water because they were on chains outside and did not have accesss to water or food and was starving and thirsty because it was hot. It just broke my heart. The situation ended with the owner giving the dogs to people who can best care for them. Please Pleae please let our voices be heard put a stop to animal cruelty now!!!!!

please save our animals i rescue and take care of dogs and cats and find them loving homes and u wouldnt believe in so many animals i come across its just so sad and lots are so sicken and infections and malnutritioned it hurts to see them this way but when i nurse them back to health i have pride in them for doing the right thing and i do pretty good at finding homes. i do this out of my own home without help from anyone and i will continue too thanks and godbless u all to stand up and shout no abuse and no kill

I AGREE 100% with everyone !!I think if you abuse an animal what ever you did to that animal should be done to you , then be Jailed for a lot more than 2 Years, 5-10 is more like it !! I have 6 dogs and 6 cats and I Love them all dearly and would be lost without them, they are my sanity !!
Just because an animal cannot speak does not mean they do not have the same feelings. The fact that they cannot speak should make humans want to look after them more. Hurting a defenseless animal is sick and in my opinion, just as bad as hurting a baby. Both are fragile, full of life, and require others to be their voices.

All animal abusers will be judged one day by one with greater power. All the abused animals should be present to see how justice is finally being served. People tend to get animals just to say they have one. Its also cruel to have a pet and never walk them, bathe them or make sure they get proper care. Clean water and food.

I’m not a tree huger aging hippie-type. I n many of the religions of the world animals are hold a place as companion and helper. They are not to be treated with cruelty. In the major christian religions, man is said to be the shepherd of all animals. Saint Francis of Assisi is the best example of how a good shepherd treats animals.
As stewards of the earth we have done a fairly rotten job. Treating animals as animals worth of respect and kindness is one step towards cleaning up some of the mess we’ve made of the world.

It makes me so angry that animal abuse is not recognized in my state of Idaho. I would love to see offenders go to jail and be banned from owning any type of animal.

Having witnessed some serious abuse on cats, my police department had the tenant evicted and told me to be happy that they were gone… happy that this idiot had a couple of dead cats in their apartment? (police officer told us about the dead cats) Happy that this idiot got nothing more than a slap on the hand? I was told he was a soldier back from Iraq, obviously he had some issues so they let him slide. Instead of getting him some help they let him go to god knows where with the remaining cats. I guess they will see their brothers and sisters in kitty heaven soon.

i get shocked every time i hear about such cruelty..last week some person shoved an iron rod in a stray dogs eyes n blinded him…i am speechless…please stop being cruel to these poor animals.

Glad to add my 2 cents worth. WIth a house-full of animals (3 dogs a cat, a ferret) and a yard full of deer, bear, chipmunk, coyote, and such (we live in the Cascade Mountains)… well, you can see where I’m going here, right?
