I think its great to see all of these non-profit groups collecting donations to help K9’s get body armor. I’ve seen a lot of teens in the news lately too, setting up fund-raisers in their city or town to purchase bulletproof vests for police dogs. These dogs are put in harms way and deserve the same level of protections as do the officers.

Thats so sad when k-9 officers go down. I feel so sorry for them, they are just following orders and sometiems they dont know what they are getting into. I found this site the other day when i was reading about k-9 body armor. I dont know if they are good models or not but definately a must for all k-9 units. I defineately hope grants are given so all dogs can wear one.

IN MEMORIUM

This past week Plymouth Meeting, PA lost one of it’s finest K-9 officers to gunfire while in pursuit of bank robbers.
German shepherd “Andy” will be remembered as a dedicated and loyal member of the police department and guardian of its residents. Our sympathy is extended to Andy’s partner Officer Lou Layfield and the entire Plymouth Township Police Department.

I think this is a wonderful accomplishment! It should’ve been done a long time ago. K9 dogs are always very important to the squad and if a human officer should wear one, so should a K9. Makes perfect sense!

Hopefully this will catch on around other sheriff’s depts nationwide, and even more dogs will get better protection.

Unfortunately, a K9 officer was shot and killed in Philadelphia yesterday. I think all K9 officers should be able to have their own bullet proof vests!
