Man Arrested In Heart Of Glass Case
On September 30th I posted Heart Of Glass, a case where two dogs ate glass laced meatballs left in their yard.
I’m happy to report a man has been arrested for this cruel and cowardly act.
Pittsburgh, PA (AHN) — A Pittsburgh man is charged with cruelty to animals for feeding two of his neighbor’s dogs meatballs laced with glass and nails.
Brett Kolarik, 41, turned himself into police Friday after the dog’s owner, Debra Rogers, realized that the meatballs were filled with harmful materials after her dogs seemed unwell.
Police told reporters that Kolarik fed the dogs the hazardous materials because he was tired of their incessant barking.
The dogs, a beagle and a husky, required emergency surgery at a cost of $4,000. Both are home recovering.
If convicted, Kolarik faces up to two years in jail per count of animal cruelty. He would also have to pay restitution to Rogers.
I’m glad to hear the dogs are home and doing well. Let’s hope Kolarik has to pay the $4,000 medical bill, along with jail time so he can think about what he did.

make me Sick!! They have no feelings at all. I hope the jerk doesnt have kids!! I hope he goes to jail. And has to pay the vets bill. Pet Abusers Are Nothing But LowLife Pieces Of Garabage! I suppose that makes them Feel Better when they can Hurt a Pet or another Human Being!!

The guy was wrong in what he did. However, the dog owner has a responsibility to their neighbors to control the dogs’ barking. If it was so constant as to be a nuisance to the neighborhood, and the owner was notified but did not correct the situation, the owner may be partially to blame. Many of us have had dogs in the neighborhood who bark incessantly, and this can be maddening, especially at night. It is also not fair to the dogs, who would be barking because they are probably lacking in some other aspect of their care (boredom, lack of proper supervision/socialization/food or water).
ROXANNE, I can not believe my eyes! You make it sound as if you think it was ok for that awful man to do that to those dogs because they were getting on people’s nerves, ARE YOU FOR REAL! And yes I did see your first line then I also saw the word HOWEVER and your “explanation”, it is completely disturbing! I have also had and still do for that matter, dogs that bark regularly and I would NEVER think it would be ok to hurt them or take it out on them in any way for it. People should find out what the local laws are for their area if it bothers them that much and then keep making phone calls to report it if that is what it takes. Someone would surely get tired of the complaints and do something about it I am sure! If there is a law for it, call the police as many times as it takes!

Chill out. I totally agree with Roxanne. She said that the guy was wrong, however the dog owner does have a responsibility. I have a neighbor that leaves her dog out all the time. I have called her numerous times about her dog barking at all hours of the night. I have offered to by her dog a bark collar and any other solution that would require money that the owner could not afford. Bottom line is that I like across the street from ignorant, low class woman. Let me ask you, would it be okay to leave a crying baby outside all night?
It is the owners fault if she knew NOT THE DOGS so why hurt the dogs? Are people CRAAAZY…….
It’s truly amazing how cruel some people can be to animals. There is absolutely no excuse for what he did. None at all. Any attempt to justify the reasons for doing what he did are completely appalling and irresponsible in my opinion. If the barking was that bad, he could have looked into hiring a professional dog trainer to work with the dogs. If that was too much of an effort on his part, he should have brought the dogs to a shelter, where at least they could have another chance of getting into a good home with responsible and caring owners. Some people should just never have the ability to own pets.
I really don’t think you can compare a crying baby with a barking dog. It’s completely ridiculous. Dogs could likely survive without an owner, whereas a human child cannot. Dogs are *not* children, though for many of us they are as near and dear as kids could be. Dogs don’t necessarily only bark because they are bored or poorly socialized. In many cases, they’ve been inadvertently trained to do so, or heck, just think it’s the fun thing to do. It’s sick what this idiot did. There are other things (legal and safe) that neighbors can resort to if they need to stop nuisance barking.
Wow, what kind of cruel person would do such a thing! That was a such a trap. Glass cases meat balls! But I am happy to here that the dogs are most importantly okay:) and that the cruel man has been arrested.
