What a tragedy! Sara is relegated to the back seat when we go out and she always wears her seatbelt, just like her mom. Even when she is in the parked car during errands, she is still belted in. Not only does this allow for me to leave the windows rolled down further (but not enough for anyone to get her out, but it keeps her from thinking about getting out on her own.

One time, after we walked around our local lake, I put her back in the car, windows rolled pretty far down, and forgot to belt her in. I discovered it when I returned after having dinner. Sara is such a good girl, she was just sitting there in the back seat where I left her. Whew! I don't think it ever occurred to her that she could leave.. Now, of course, I make sure if she's in the car, she's belted in!

Ok now that really upsets me. I saw that once driving to the mountains in Hickory. The window was open and I knew that dog was going to jump. The owners slammed on the breaks when the beagle flew out of the back window. Since we were on I-40 the beagle was instantly killed. My daughter and I both screamed at the sight. Since then, we never drive with our window down, cracked yes but not big enough for Coco to get out of.

This is so sad. I come from the school of thought, however, that if you cannot take yourself properly than you should absolutely not have a pet, becuase you wont be able to provide for it. The best thing this man could have done was take his dogs to a shelter, eventhough shelters are overfilled already. They would have had a much better fate.

The Roadie Ruff Rider is one of the very few seatbelts on the market that is tested to human safety standards. Our dogs are like our kids, and just like you wouldn't let your kid ride unrestrained in the car, or put your kid in the front seat, you shouldn't do those things with your dog for the same reasons. A seatbelt is just $40, every dog is worth it!

What a tragic story. I hope other learn from this an do secure us pups in the car. I know it can be fun jumping around looking at things but in the end our safety is what is important.
