Dogsters: Come Join The “Stop Puppy Mills” Stroll

As you know, Puppy Mill Awareness Day is only 3 days away. The day is devoted to educating the public about the connection between consumers and commercial breeding facilities.
The big event will be taking place on Saturday September 20th at the Intercourse Community Park in the heart of Lancaster County Pennsylvania, and you can join in the day of fun and learning.
Over the past few months Dogster has been vigilantly working to get the word out about the horror of puppy mills. While legislation has been slow to change, there have been more crackdowns on puppy mills due to increased attention from the media.
We at Dogster plan on continuing to do our part, by educating the public to the horrors that go on behind closed doors. We all know when the “dirty little secrets” that take place from public view are exposed in the light of day, change starts to take place. Now, it can no longer be ignored.
We recently posted an article, A Day In The Life Of A Rescuer, of a heartbreaking look at one of the amazing people who put themselves on the line to help save these dogs. For those of you who have not read it, I urge you to take a few minutes to do so, then pass it on to a friend. Here’s a snippet…
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RESCUER
E.S. EVERITTI rise at 4 a.m., get coffee, check supplies, and leave by 5. I drive alone, my van full of empty crates. As I drive through the cold dark morning, my only company is the churning of my emotions. Hope that most of the crates will be full of dogs on the way home. Anger than anyone could bring puppies into this world with no plan other than a quick profit. Sorrow that companion animals are viewed as, even legally classified as livestock, rather than the family members they should be. And fear that I will fail them.
I know that I will fail some of them. I cannot save them all. Neither I nor my organization have the money, the manpower, the political clout or enough other resources to remove all of them from harm. But we will keep trying, because we can and because we have to. We can at least save some, give them the gift of love and family and future.
We, as dog lovers and owners, need to take a stand and help change the laws. We can start by taking part in the Pennsylvania Puppy Mill Ban. The bill, which we’ve been waiting for quite some time, is intended to reduce the number of dogs in puppy mills and end suffering.
We’re encouraging Dogsters and Catsters to tag photos with “stop puppy mills” so that we can create a stroll to highlight our members’ concerns about this problem. If you’re not sure how to tag photos just follow these instructions, it’s easy.

What a great way to take your loved one on a stroll, even if it’s raining outside!

SUPER post Horst! This is something that we all need to be made aware of and do something about. And I’m urging cat lovers to join this stroll as well – we may bark and meow and each other all day long, but deep down inside we feel for our fellow pets.
all the puppy mill-stoppin’ snuzz,
Snuzzy
We wish we were in PA, we would love to join Rescue Ink and attend the stamp out puppy mill at Intercourse Park in Intercourse, PA.
Those who are unable to attend, go to your local puppy store, make a sign and give a voice to those who have none.
I will be at the Petland, Charlotte NC on yet another Saturday to attempt to influence those who want to buy a puppy instead of rescuing.
Thanks Horst for barking this out.

I bought my precious indy from petland. I was not aware what a puppy mill was before my purchase. He is the love of my life and I wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world, however I shudder to think what the first months of his life must have been like. People must be made aware and puppy mills must stop. My baby didn’t deserve what he got and neither does any dog in this world.
Puppy Mills sucks!
Too bad I’m not close to Pennsylvania. I would’ve come.
But every spring in Montreal (where I live), there is also a walk against Puppy Mills, organized by people who are against cruelty to animals.
Everytime I visit my local animal shelter to give some dog food, I see dozens of homeless dogs and puppies, and I’m pretty sure at least one third of them came from pet stores and BYBs. It’s just so sad that unethical breeders and pet stores still continue to encourage pet overpopulation. We have to raise awareness about these horrible places and the impact that they have on animal welfare.
Good post! I am ashamed to say that I live in Missouri, a veritable haven of puppy mills! So, being the world peace lover that I am, I want this barbarism to stop! Inspired by your post, I have called a local animal activist who has been protesting against puppy mills off & on this last year. I volunteered to go out with them & help raise awareness. Thanks for your inspiration. Wish I could be with you in Pennsylvania, but I will be sending “pawsitive” energies to you! Peace,
Lisa (& Fluffy & Alex of Catster).
I’m the first to admit I’m not really a dog person I had a bad experience of dogs when I was a kid. But how can someone breed dogs just for profit and be so cruel. I hate the thought that any animal is being mistreated like this and when is the law going to catch up and protect them as the animals can’t protect themselve. This really saddens me that this can be allowed to happen.
We need to stop all the pain and suffering I wish i could be in pa

Oh im so glad that this event is being held, cause people need to be made aware. I wish we could join you in PA
I adopted a puppy mill dog over 10 years ago, This poor dog is still skitish, she barks and shakes all the time. She is the saddist dog I have ever seen, she is afraid of everything and anybody who is new, she barks and shivers and pees on the floor if she hears a person with an accent, she is always close to someone in the family. She eats like she is starving, (she’s not). if she eats to fast or to much she throws it up. I would personally torture the person who did this to my dog, It sometime makes me cry to see her looking so sad. 11lbs of dog treated like a factory, torture is not a strong enough word for what was done to this dog.and I probally don’t know the half of it.
We stand with you all Saturday Sept. 20. Puppymills are a true horror and disgrace to this great country of ours.:(( My family has always gotten our fur family members from the pound/shelter. So many just don’t know what really happens or where these puppies come from. The same pups they can’t sell are thrown into shelters and pounds across the country or worse. Our thanks and prayers are with all who work rescue for these pups from their living nightmare.
Wish we could pass Stop the Puppy Mills here in Arkansas. Our little Gracie Lou is a product of a puppy mill busted in Sercey County in Arkansas. She never saw the sunshine or walked on grass, lived in a concrete building. Crates were stacked three high and no paper, no ventilation. This was bad, She still has a few problems, But she is coming out of Her shell great. This needs to stop all over, And wish Animal Curelty was a FELONY…
It has gotten out of hand..
Wish I still lived in Pa..I would be there with my Bearyn Boy. He is also a pup from the horrible mills. I have had him four years now and he never leaves my side. The Carter clan HATES the puppy mills and would love to see them all close down. I say put these uncaring people through their mill. Maybe if they spend a month living it they will understand the pain.
I really want to stop puppy mills. It’s so sad, and dogs don’t deserve that. Puppy Mills is a crime, and I and to stop it. I would laugh and laugh if those stupid places would shut down forever. I hope the uncaring people go throught their mill. I hope they get in pain, and feel like the dogs had.
This is sickening! I know the darkness humans are capable
of ,but puppy mill owners are some of the lowest. I could go on & on!
Rambling to the point of saying something I’ll regret! PUPPY MILLS ARE DISGUSTING & WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone whom knows about(& fails to report them),works for, or owns a puppy mill, deserves to be treated as bad if not worse then those countless & nameless victims, whom lack the very ability to speak of the endless evils committed to them,in the name of the all holy dollar.
My husband and I “rescued” a male, yellow lab (in April) from a family that had been advertising online. I have rescued, in quotes, because I wasn’t aware that there was a problem at first. Please read the diary entries, about our special boy, here is the first one:http://www.dogster.com/dogs/813259/diary/All_about_milo/495764
I have seen, and read, stories about this; yet I never imagined that I would be telling one. I have spent hours, and many months, going through the process of exposing this couple. The only thing worse than what they’ve done to these puppies, is the fact that they have a toddler and a newborn! Yes,CPS is now involved. The Classifieds Supervisor, of the newspaper that they advertised in blew me off. Fortunately, the Officer that is investigating my complaint, has been very diligent. He calls me whenever there is an update. I am feeling a bit discouraged, though, because I was told that CPS won’t be removing the children. In addition, there isn’t a way to make absolutely certain that this couple won’t breed illegally again.
we saved my dog from some people that were not taking care of him and they were going to use him for bow and arrow practice they toke him to a bar and said does any body want him if not were are going to use him for practice and with my luck my g-ma and g-pa were there and they brought him home for me and he has been with me from then on and today was his birthday!!!!!!!!
