Help Angel’s Gate Get An Extreme Home Makeover

Horst Hoefinger

I came across an article in Modern Dog magazine about the animal hospice and rehabilitation center Angel’s Gate.  What makes this facility so unique is that they deal with “special needs” dogs that are considered unadoptable by other shelters.  These are the ill,  injured,  old,  and dying.  Now these animals are given a chance to live out their final days with dignity and love.

Susan Marino and Victor LaBruna opened their residential home in 1992 to take in these special-needs animals; animals that have run out of options, with no other place to go. They welcome those that have been surrendered by their human companions or from shelters that would otherwise euthanize the so-called unadoptable animals.

Many of their residents were abandoned, having ceased to be “useful” to their guardians or having become too much of a burden upon entering old age or becoming ill. Some animals arrive after a lifetime of abuse and are given a peaceful and loving environment, if only for a few days, before they pass away. Others that come in paralyzed or critically ill are cared for using a holistic approach with a focus on physical, emotional, and spiritual care. At any one time there are several hundred animals of all kinds receiving loving care at Angel’s Gate. Indeed, there are angels at work at here.

Angel’s Gate is in the process of moving the entire hospice to a larger piece of land so they can continue their amazing work on an even grander scale. The costs for this move are monumental and they could desperately use some help. They’ve started a campaign to see if they can get that help to come in the form of  ABC’s hit show Extreme Home Makeover.  A show where, in 7 days, they rebuild a home from the ground up. Or, in this case, hopefully an animal rehabilitation center.

I can’t think of a better or more deserving candidate then Angel’s Gate. The show gets a lot of requests so in order to give Angel’s Gate a paw up we need to get some letters to ABC on their behalf.  It will only take a minute of your time but it can mean a lifetime of difference to the animals passing through Angel’s Gate.

A simple line that you would love to see Susan Marino of Angel’s Gate receive an Extreme Home Makeover so that she can better care for these terminally ill animals would be sufficient. Throw that line on a piece of paper, stick it in a stamped envelope with the address below and put it in your mailbox asap!

Here’s the address to send it to:

What an amazing human Susan Marino is! I posted a copy of this article to my facebook page. Anyone with a myspace, or facebook page might do the same. The more this article gets passed around the higher the number of letters to help this person and these animals get into a better place.
