Greatest American Dog Week 8 Recap
This week’s Greatest American Dog was a study in courage, not only for the dogs but for the owners.
We started out with the dog bone challenge. The simple task for the owners was to keep their pup in a small circle as an elephant came at them. Yeah that’s right, an elephant. I got a kick out of watching little Andrew as 9,000 pounds of pachyderm decscended on him. He never flinched, not even when the elephant picked up the banana placed in the circle. Presley was the only other dog to pass the challenge by never moving out of the circle of trust.
This lead to a showdown between Andrew and Presley. They were both put in their respective circles while their owners were forced to stand with their backs to the elephant. The elephant was then told to charge at the group. First dog to stand up…lost.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I’d be too keen on having an elephant charge me from behind. Heck, I wouldn’t want one charging me from the front, either. But Laurie and Travis showed their courage. In the end the little guy Andrew, the Maltese, turned out to be the toughest of the bunch. Who’d a thunk it?
Once in the dog-bone suite, we got to see pictures of Laurie’s family and to share an emotional moment with her as she read the loving letter her husband had written her. Ahh, I love seeing the real America on TV!!
The best in show challenge this week consisted of getting the dogs, and owners, through a bit of an obstacle course. It was situated 20 feet off the ground consisting of three parts: Walking up a very steep ramp, a walk over a thin balance beam and then jumping off the platform while attached to a zip line.
JD and Galaxy were first up and knocked it out of the park. No problems at all, and in fact, watching Galaxy’s tail wagging as she was cruising down the zip line was hilarious.
Teresa and Leroy had no issues with the first two parts of the challenge, but when it was time to jump off the platform, Leroy had second thoughts. After a lot of coaxing, Leroy finally jumped.
Bill and Star were next. Bill chose the easier of the two ramps and managed to get through the first two phases without much issue. However, when it was time for Star to jump she failed to do it. I know Meatloaf says two out of three ain’t bad, but ain’t bad may not get it done tonight.
Travis and Presley were next and they managed to get through all three sections of the challenge. They did have issues with the initial sit/stay, but they performed the challenge completely.
Laurie and Andrew were the last to compete. Recipients of the leg up, training with a movie dog trainer, they tackled the challenge . I have to tell you, seeing Andrew going up that ramp was just hilarious. He was like Thomas the Train…I think I can, I think I can…as his feet just pitter pattered along. He made it up the ramp and over the narrow section of the platform without issue. When it came time to jump, our hero just wouldn’t do it. Seeing this, Laurie cut it short and said they were done.
So who to send home. All the weak players are off the show, and I suspect this is going to get harder to do for the judges each week.
The judging came down to Bill and Star, Laurie and Andrew, and Travis and Presley. Based solely on this week’s challenge, Bill and Star were expelled. I know I was rooting for them so this is a big disappointment, but if I look at it objectively they were the poorest performers of the night.
One are of concern, Galaxy did hurt herself this week. She may have pulled or strained a muscle, but we’re not sure. Let’s all keep our paws crossed and hope she’s all better now.
I know there are a lot of disappointed Bill and Star supporters out there. Bark away!!

What a dissapointment for Bill and Star to have to go home. Bill has so much to be proud of with Star. They will be missed and I don’t think any of the other contestants feel triumphant because of Bill’s expulsion. I don’t envy the job of the judges from here on out.
I do think the elephant was cruel. And would have loved to see the judges pets put through it as well.
I will really miss Bill & Star and thought they were great.
The love and respect was quite evident from both of them.
I think it was a shame that Bill and Star was sent home. I think Star did a great job! It was so nice to see the love and devotion between Bill and Star. I feel Bill was penaltized for not pushing Star to the limit. It seems odd that in the maze the judges expressed their displeasure over how far he pushed Star. Tonight the trainer that pushed her dog too far was rewarded. BRING STAR AND BILL BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Andrew! He was a amazing and he should not have been in the bottom two! He is a maltese! He weighs about eight pounds! You expect him to jump off the structure? He was awesome climbing up the ramp and going on the beam, but the best part was when he stood up to that elephant! WOW! I’m rooting for Laurie and Andrew all the way!
Yeah Bill & Star!! We love you man!! You did a great job & we are so proud of our Agility Buddies!! You will be missed & now I don’t have a reason to continue watching. Now I have to start going to Obedience Practice again on Wednesday nights. I agree with JM, one week the judges are complaining about the dogs being pushed too far, or the dogs being at risk, then the next week they say just the opposite. Travis & Presley did the task & got negative comments about it!
What a big heart little Andrew has to not even budge when that elephant approached him! Good Job!
Prayers out to Galaxy for a speedy recovery!
Emmett wasn’t even happy tonight. As soon as they announced that Star and Bill had to leave, Emmett growled. Star and Bill, we love you guys. A class act. ON ANOTHER NOTE: Wendy Diamond DARES to comment that Leroy’s barking is annoying. HELLO, WENDY!!!!! Please!!! Watch passed episodes!!! There is nothing, I REALLY mean NOTHING more annoying than your “SNORT”!!!! Do us a favor, find a good trainer that will teach you how to laugh like a lady.
I will miss Bill and Star. I think it was wrong to dismiss any dog from this weeks contests ! Do to the range of ages of the dogs, I think they were all doing their best. I
I hope that Galaxy is o.k. , I know that it hurts the her owner to see her hurting.
Every week I couldn’t wait to watch the program. I have no idea where these judges rule these challenges when the one judges dog looks like its on prozac !
I two dogs passed away ,one last year at 16 years, her sister the year before. I know that dogs are a great comfort and full of love , and the same respect is the way I love dogs.
All I know is that if dogs were made to fly ,they would have been given wings.
I think that now that all the nuts are out of the bunch, ( Not Including Bill and Star ) that all these dogs and their owners are WINNERS !!!!!
I think the elephant part of the “strength” competition was ridiculous and cruel. If a dog bolted and got hurt the judges would have been “snorting” out their butts!
I didn’t mind the obstacle course because the dogs were harnessed, but evidently not enough since galaxy got hurt!
But when the elephant was “running” I would have refused that part for fear my dog would have gotten hurt. They should think about consequences before they plan these events.
And I agree that the owners that didn’t “push” their dogs to jump shouldn’t have been put in the bottom. Last week Bill was chastized for not listening to Star, this week he listened and didn’t make her jump and he’s still punished.
They should have said they wouldn’t send ANYONE home this week and opted to take 2 out next week.
You sent the wrong pair home!! Bring Bill & Star back,
what a class act they are!!!!!
Bill and Star you rock! I will miss both of you. You are both winners in my heart.. true all American handlier and dog! I enjoyed seeing you every week. Bill you are a wonderful example of a wonderful husband, family man, and dog lover!
It is unreal Bill & Star were sent home. If nothing else, the love those two have for each other should have given them one more week. Bill & Star you two are the greatest! I could not wait to watch the two of you every week. You will be sadly missed.
The judges should be sent home, not
Bill and Starr
I will miss Bill and Star, I had tears when he was dismissed. As a comment earlier, last week they got after him for not listening to Star and her feelings, now he listens and now he is gone.. They should have waited and voted off next week..
But I would have never put MY dog thru what they did, I think it was to hard for those dogs, don’t care how good of health they were in….now look at Galaxy…I have tears again, because this dog is hurt, and to continue for money…think how bad you feel with pulled muscle, and he brought Galaxy back in making her walk…no way…I would have pick Galaxy up..the judges are wrong to dismiss Bill and Star for not listing, what do they think of Galaxy and JD…is this good for dog….Sorry I just think the Galaxy was in pain and should have never walked back in there at the end….but all in all, the show is great….just will miss Bill and Star…..
I am devastated! Bill and Starr epitomizes the love and respect shared by dogs and their owners. Bill’s quiet, gentle manner when working with Starr and all the other dogs and owners is what made the show so special. The Judges had a hard choice to make but they really blew it! The weakest owners have already been evicted.
What about poor Galaxy?
I don’t think we dog lovers can handle waiting until the next episode to find out how badly injured Galaxy is!
Denise A.
I’ll miss Bill and Star, it’s too bad what had to happen and not fair, the dogs that would not jump off of that little stunt are the smart one’s, I sure hope that Prestley did not learn that it’s ok to jump from high places, next time he won’t have the harness on, who thinks these things up?
The judges just don’t get it, pushing to far to win is not in the dogs best interest, just another rating for the networks, like the phoney cat fight between the jugdes, so I’ll be watching something else on Wed nights.
I too will miss Bill and Star, they were fantastic.
But I must say this week’s challenge was torturous. Especially the whole Zip line thing. Who’s dog wouldn’t be showing “stress signals” in that situation!! What an absolutely unreasonable task.
And when the most confident dog ends up having an injury?! I think they should sue.
The show lost at least one viewer after tonight. Star is a class act and Bill is just as much of a class act. A true gentleman with the payback for the favor last week. I know the love and devotion that exists between the 2 of them since I have a Brittany from East Texas that I found as a stray while living in Mabank. They aere the best dogs in the world as far as i am concerned. Judges, make up your minds what you want;pushing the dogs to the limits calling it off in the dogs best interest. Andrew, you are 10 foot tall in my book! Galaxy, my prayers are with you girl. Get well!!
I cried when Bill and his orange dog were expelled. Somehow I knew they would be. I think the judges contradict themselves after saying he pushed her too hard last week and then not enough this week. I looked forward to watching Bill and Star every week. It won’t be the same without them, but way to go Andrew! OMG, such a tiny little trusting dog to not move an inch with a 9,000 pound elephant coming at him! But jumping off such a high platform for him? Maybe he doesn’t need courage for that. Maybe he’s too smart to do something so dumb! Yay Andrew!
I am so very disappointed in the Greatest american dog show – shame on the producers and the judges for participating in the stressful for ratings game. The show is asking too much of the owners and their dogs – and because the owners are caught up in the chance to win big money – they are not using good judgement with their dogs – to keep from taking the walk of shame or being expelled from the stupid show. I am hoping the show is never renewed. Jumping off a 32″ high platform – so what if the dog has a harness on (what dog understands the concept of a harness) – or the elephant stunt. I had hoped that at least Victoria (as a caring judge) would have walked off the set – and their negative comments regarding the dog’s behaviour is never consistent.
What were the judges thinking??? Bill and Star should not have been sent home. So what if she did not run the red ramp. When given a choice points should not have been taken off. The elephant and the zip line was way over the limit. I would not have let either of my dogs face those challenges. I am very disappointed in the judges this week. My prayer are with JD and Galaxy
I was so impressed by Laurie and Andrew! He is so great with him being the last small dog. I was very disappointed that Bill and Star had to do. They ought to let them stay so he can help the other remaining dogs. I was also very concerned when I watch the previews for next week. Kudos to JD for possibly pulling Galaxy out if she is hurt as bad as she seems. I think Galaxy and Star both have done excellent for being older dogs. It will be interesting to see which pair comes out on top!
I waited with great aniticipation for this show
but after tonight I thought it bordered on
animal cruelty! Shame on the network, the
stupid producers and judges and the dopes
who think up these harmful and scary stunts!
What people won’t do for ratings and a few
bucks. It’s disgusting and I won’t watch it
again! I am a dog lover and owner and I
would NEVER submit my dog to this!
I AM AN AVID DOG LOVER AND WAS EXCITED ABOUT WATCHING THIS SHOW. HOWEVER I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN ALMOST EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. FIRST OF ALL , I THINK MOST OF THE CHALLENGES WERE DOWNRIGHT STUPID AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH DOGS AND THEN THE JUDGES LEAVE A LOT TO BE DESIRED. THE OWNERS WERE DAMNED IF THEY DID AND DAMNED IF THEY DON’T. I CAN TELL YOU FROM BEING INVOLVED IN TRAINING DOGS, A DOG WITH STAR’S QUALITIES AND TITLES WILL BECOME THE WORLD’S GREATEST AMERICAN DOG LONG BEFORE SOME LITTLE DRESS UP DOG LIKE BEACON, OR BELLA STARLET AND ANDREW IS CUTE, BUT HE’S NOTHING SPECIAL AND HIS OWNER IS A BACK STABBER AS SHE PROVED WITH ELVIS IN ONE SHOW. I SURELY HOPE THIS SHOW IS NOT ON AGAIN NEXT SEASON, I DON’T THINK IT WILL BE MISSED AT ALL.
I am so thoroughly disappointed about Bill & Star. After the show I made the comment that I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue watching the show. Every week I wanted to see how Bill & Star would handle the challenges. Out of all the contestants I would only go to Bill if I needed advice with my dog. This man had such compassion for his dog and you could see that from Star as well. Bill is a person that we should all look up to with his easy demeanor, his true compassion for people and his love for his family and dog. For the most part, every comment on this site expresses the same thing, we will all miss Bill & Star. Good luck Bill, we miss you!
Last night I watched as the Greatest American Dog and her owner were sent home from the show. Hugs and love to Star and Bill.
As always Star is a great dog and Bill is a true gentleman. I suppose the “rules” had changed over the course of a week as last week Bill was chastised for pushing Star too hard. This week Bill chose not to push Star and let her make her own decision about the task at hand and was chastised and penalized for it. It’s such a shame they changed the rules this week and didn’t tell us ahead of time.
I was pleased to see a different side of Laurie in the dog bone suite. I needed to see her in a different light and I did.
I hope Galaxy’s injury turns out to be minor and heals quickly.
As for the judges….hmmmmm….I hope every single one of them steps in a huge steaming pile of elephant poop.
I am furious about last night’s show. I agree with everyone’s comments concerning Bill and Star. He was protecting his dog by going to the lower ramp and not pushing her to “fly”. And look at Galaxy-she is hurt. The judges need to reconsider their decision or better yet-make them “fly” and climb up that ramp. I do not see those actions as a measure of courage. Hats off to Bill for what he achieved. Hope Galaxy is fine.
What a shame!!! BRING BACK BILL & STAR!!!!
Bill you are and Star are a class act and I bet your fame is just beginning – enjoy the ride! Hope you avoid Gustav and say a little prayer for us in South Louisiana and all pets.
I don’t think I will be watching this show any longer. I’m so proud of Bill & Laurie for stopping when their babies would not jump. Both competitions border on animal cruelty and I think all people involved in the idea should be looking for new jobs. NEVER would my four legged human be submitted to such fright or danger.
New judges have been needed from the start in my opinion. Most of us have our dogs as companions in life. So what if they cannot do all the regular dog tricks.
I have already complained to the humane society about this show and the humane society has already registered a complaint. Last night’s show was the pinnacle in terms of inhumane treatment. Those dogs, so loving and trusting, were subject to trauma both emotional and physical all in the name of money and fame. SHAME on the producers,SHAME on the judges and SHAME on the owners! Write and call CBS! Call PETA. Stop these stupid antics before a dog is hurt. Oh, wait, too late, a dog is already injured.
I, too, believe it should not have been Bill and Starr expelled. What a true bond between these two! The judges themselves commented on the fact that Andrew was showing signs of stress and fear at the top of the jump (which Starr did not – she was just smart enough to know it wasn’t safe)! So Bill took her up the blue ramp – big deal – he’s an older guy and she’s an older dog so give them a break! And, I know they’re supposedly judging the dogs but Laurie’s behaviour and attitude is really out of control (remember when she befriended Elvis and his owner and turned around and ratted him out for nipping???) This has really come down to a contest of who the judges like the best, not the overrall commitment between the dogs and their owners! And, of all things, an ELEPHANT — what dog in their right mind with any kind of survival instinct would not think twice about that. I could go on and on, but I give. The show has ended up being a great let down!
Bill and Star – you guys should have won and now there is no reason for me to watch this show-it is rigged.. I think my boyfriend is right when he told me on day 1 of competition that Bill and Star are the obvious choice for greatest american dog and they will lose and the minority person will win….And did you see how scared the boxer was hurtling through the sky! And the judges did not see that! We thought Star was smart for not subjecting herself to that insanity…only a smart one would do that. Bill and Star we love you and wish you and your orange dog and family all the best!
Each week I think the challenges can’t get more ridiculous and every week I’m proven wrong. The elephant was not only stupid but dangerous as elephants are unpredictable. The contestants all should have refused to put their dogs in that stressful situation and also refuse to have their dogs “fly” as with Galaxy getting hurt unnessary. Everybody should complain to the humane society. The judges may publish Dog Magazine and some have training classes but they are clueless as to how to humanely treat a dog. Border Collies bark. It’s a fact of life. Is it annoying? Sometimes but Border Collies are one of the smartest and obedient breed of dogs who when excited bark to express their happiness. Whoever dreams up these challanges need to be educated on what is humane and what isn’t.
I am very upset Bill& Star were expelled last night…theres a great bond between the two…First hes reprimanded for pushing Star then the following week hes reprimanded for not pushing her hard enough! As for the challenge last night way beyond anything for the safety of our pets…what were they thinking…let the judges have their pets do the challenge. I cried when Bill & Star were thrown out of the Academy….Will miss you both very much !!
My thanks to Nancy. Bill was wise not to encourage Star to jump. Look what happened to Galaxy. The producers went too far with last night’s show. It was not safe for man nor beast. The red ramp wasn’t even safe for Bill.
The two female judges are idiots and should be replaced.
The only reason I would watch the show with Bill and Star gone is to see how Galaxy is doing. She is such a great dog, but too old for what was asked of her last night.
Karen in Texas
My heart goes out to Galaxy. I really hope she is Ok. I am so proud of Bill for not pushing Star to make the leap. Bill and Star showed courage in my book by not taking the leap. Bill I wish the best of luck in the future. When you spoke to your wife last week, I had tears. I think you and Star are the best in my book. The judges should have noticed that you have tremedous love and repect for Star that you would would not push her to take the leap. I wish you all the best.
Maybe because I have seen way to many videos on YouTube where a supposedly “trained” elephant goes nuts and throws human beings around like rag dolls that I thought last nights challenge was over the top STUPID! I would not have allowed my dog to participate in that… period.! How great is your dog if it ends up dead. Now a dog is injured because of the goofy zip line idea as well.
What will they do next week? Ask them to call their dogs across an active Nascar track?
I really enjoy watching all of the dogs each week.I will say Bill and Star were my favorite and I sure hated to see them go .All the other dog owners looked up to Bill and Star and im sure they will miss him.Why did they have to send anybody home this week?I to agree that the judges really ate there on words because of last week when they said Bill pushed Star to the limit and now this week say he didnt push her far enough.I wish all the dogs left the best of luck and I will continue to watch each week because I really love the show. You can tell that the owners love there dogs.I hope galaxy will be ok.After seeing preveiws of next weeks show im worried but I know that J.D. will take care of his baby and do the right thing.I wish them all the best.I love the show and I really enjoy watching these owners with there dogs.
I was so disappointed to see Bill & Star leave. Now it is really going to be difficult to choose among those pair that are remaining. Best of luck to them all!
The judges know nothing about individual breeds. Star is a typical Brittany. When she sat down with her back to Bill in Week 7 she was showing her displeasure at the puppies, she was not tired.
Bill and Laurie were wise not to encourage their dogs to jump. Last night’s challenge was dangerous for the owners and dogs.
There should have been a point score for that challenge and no pair should have been sent home.
The show should be cancelled as they have shown total disregard for the safety of the animals.
Clyde
I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY CRUEL AND DANGEROUS TO PUT THE DOGS THROUGH THAT KIND OF CHALLENGE.
I ENJOYED THE SHOW UNTIL LAST NIGHT. GALAXY COULD HAVE BEEN HURT WORSE AND IF ANDREW HAD OF JUMPED, WELL WE ALL KNOW WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AS HE IS SO DEVOTED TO LAURIE, GET REAL THE DOGS HAD NO IDEA WHAT A HARNESS WOULD DO
Yea Andrew! Of course “little” dogs are the bravest cause we don’t think we’re little, BOL!
Mom thought the elephant and especially the zipline were mean and crazy tasks! Let’s freak your dogs out, so stupid and cruel! Doggies aren’t supposed to jump off high things, heck, mom fusses at me when I jump off her bed. (Me and my bro have hurt our legs doing that.) Mom would have said no freaking way is my dog is jumping off that platform you crazy people!
And yah, Wendy Diamond, we’re dogs, we’re supposed to bark! Geez! I bark at you, woof woof!
Where is the Humane Society? Last night’s show was DANGEROUS AND CRUEL. Is the last show going to be to make their dog jump to its death or be trampled to death ?
I will miss Bill and Star…..they were my favorites. Star has the most beautiful face. Bill and Star are fabulous together.
I sure hope Galaxy will be ok too..she is my next fave.
Thank you Bill for being responsible and not forcing Star to do such a ridiculous task. How can anyone think it’s a good idea to teach your dog to jump off a huge platform?!? They don’t understand that they are harnessed in. This show has gotten beyond ridiculous. These tasks aren’t useful at all. I refuse to watch this stupid show again.
I’m so saddened that Bill and Star were expelled – I don’t even want to watch anymore. They have such a great relationship and Star is such a beautiful dog. She has the cutest face and coloring. I’m a little confused as to why the Judges penalized Bill for not pushing Star harder this week when during the maze competition, they penalized him for pushing her too hard. I think Bill was wise in realizing his dog’s limitations and I think they both did a great job. NOT FAIR, JUDGES!!!
I was sad to see Bill and Star go. The end challenge should of been the courage challenge with the elephant. Although I don’t think that was very ethical no matter how well the elephant was trained. For those that stayed there the longest, it was awesome to see. The obstacle course was much more work and could of been judged differently on how well each task was preformed. Being voted out just because the dogs would not jump was wrong. They put a lot of un-needed pressure on the pet owners to know if the dog won’t jump they are out. What if none of them would jump? You can’t expect that all the various breeds will do the same thing. I have said this before in a different foreum, the judges do not consider the breeds different versatilities and how they can or can’t do something. I feel they critisize way to much on a dog that cant physically do a task that others of a different size can do. Age is also an issue on what they can or can’t do. Obviously I am rooting for the boxer because I have them. But he is also young and does not know what danger really is at this point. I think this is why he is so pleasing to do anything. I could tell he was very interested in the elephant. I could see Andrew actually communicating with the Elephant. I sure do miss the Bulldog on there. I think that was just another issue of the judges critisizing again.
I’m another one who cried when Bill and Star had to leave. Bill, I was pulling for you and your little orange dog. Y’all are a class act. I was sad all night that y’all had to go home.
And I sure hope Galaxy is ok.
I too thought the challenges this week were dangerous for the dogs. Even the best-trained elephant can be unpredictable, and I am not at all sure that *I* could have stood there unmoving with an elephant charging at me. And the stunts??? Jeezopete. Even with harnesses, it’s obvious it wasn’t safe.
I know they want to challenge the dogs and have them do something special, but I thought this episode was a bit over the top.
And I sure won’t enjoy the show as much without Bill and Star, and if J.D. and Galaxy have to go home because his dog is hurt, I’ll be pretty upset at the whole thing.
I dislike most “reality” shows, but absolutely adore this one, in large part because of Bill & Star. What class acts. Even Bill’s farewell speech was that of a gentleman. They have performed exceptionally throughout the entire show, and I am so sad that they left. It especially stings because last week Bill was penalized for pushing Star too hard, and now to go home because he wouldn’t force her to do something so extreme. As my husband said, Star looked just like she was saying “Um, I’m a bird dog, not a dog bird.” I like Teresa and LeRoy, but why did the judges applaud her for forcing LeRoy to do something that he was so distressed about? That was far worse than running a maze one more time. Kudos for showing a bit of humanity for Laurie, though.
I cant beleive Bill and Star are gone. I actually cried. But Bill was homesick. Im gonna miss his advice. i could tell this was hard for the judges…but someone had to go right? Tell you the truth; i would have love to see andrew and Laurie go. I hope Galaxy hangs in there. the previes didnt look too promising though.
i am still rooting for Travis and Presley!
Poor Star. She looked so tired and ready to go home. I hate it, too. She is certainly one of our Greatest American Dogs!! I felt that both challenges bordered on animal cruelty. Surely we can come up with better ideas with which to judge which dog is the best?
What a huge disappointment with the Greatest American Dog Show.
Safety of dogs and people were of no concern to the producers/judges. Excuse me? A charging elephant at your back and hoping your dog does not panic or attack and get under the elephant’s foot or trust the elephant does not trample you? Safety of the dogs is the responsibility of the owners and I applaud Bill and Laurie for not insisting that their dogs jump. Galaxy performed flawlessly and completely trusted JD. What a great relationahip between them! But Galaxy was hurt with the harness, wagging her tail all the way and now she has a painful road to recovery. If she recovers she may not enjoy her jumps and tricks to the extent of her pre-injury. For what? Shame on the producers of “Greatest American Dog”. I will no longer watch you show.
Well again last night I was disappointed with the show. Why would you intentionally select a challenge for these dogs knowing that the potential for harm was there? Proven fact, Galaxy came away from the challenge limping. Than for the judges to scold Travis for “getting Presley to excited at the top of the ramp, there was the potential for the dog to fall” or scolding Bill for not making Star run up the extreme ramp. Kudo’s to Bill and Laurie for knowing their dogs well enough to stop the nonsense before it went to far. And what is up with Teresa? Leroy barks, and how does she handle it! She continues to yell at him and even holds his mouth shut to get her point across. Dogs bark, that’s what they do and they bark for all kinds of reasons. Try finding a better solution to the problem than what you’ve been doing. Here again these judges are supposed to be so expert at their job, why haven’t they given Teresa some guidance on how to help Leroy with his problem, so she can quit her complaining with each challenge that “she’s afraid his barking will get her kicked off the show.” She should have been put off the first time she yelled at him and held his mouth shut, what kind of training is that? Bill and Star will be greatly missed and our prayers are with Galaxy for a speedy recovery. I’m sure there is a better way to show that our beloved pets have courage, how many humans could have done what those dogs were asked to do last night? I for one am afraid of heights and to sit there and let an elephant walk toward me with out moving, don’t think so. They were just lucky last night that elephant was as well behaved at it was, we all know that even though they are well trained, a wild animal is still a wild animal.
This last show was ridiculous! First of all – I thought it was animal cruety to allow this courage test. All these dogs are so different. One weighs under 15lbs and some are in the age bracket that could do more harm to the dog and yes that was proven. Why would they have to stair walks to climb if it wasn’t because some dogs couldn’t do the harder one. Then to blame them for using it-it’s ridiculous. The ones who could take off and fly should have been rewarded extra bonus, not condem the ones you were afraid. I have to admit, this really upset me that they went ahead and did this plus have the judges rule someone out because of not being able to go the extra yard when they are in a different age catagory. Do you all agree or not?
I was so upset to see Star and Bill leave I cried. This is the 3rd time I cried for Bill and Star. Like when Star got hurt, then will Bill got to speak to his wife and now. He is a good man with a huge heart. He loves his wife so unconditionally and has tons of love for Star as well. I wish Bill, his wife the best and Star is the greatest dog on the show in my opinion.
I have been watching the show from the beginning. The judges leave something to be desired. They are really cruel with the things they say. Dogs can’t paint!!! I don’t even think they had fun doing that one! IT has to be as much fun for the dogs as their masters/trainers. Poor Galaxy getting hurt last night her owner was more hurt i think. The show better fix her up! As it was there fault. You can see the bond they have with each other its fantastic. Poor Bill and Star I cried last night when they were voted off. Not Fair…..It is a really hard choice as to whom will win the grand prize…Hopefully they will have all the dogs come back (except for Bella & cry baby) we can do without them! (sorry) All of you keep up the good work love the show…
An untethered elephant and unrestrained dogs – what brain-trust decided that was a good idea. I would never have put my dog in that position, I would have walked away, and I am so thankful that no one got hurt – at that point. Then we have the tower. Since dog’s don’t understand the concept of the safety harness, I think it’s a pretty good life skill not to jump off anything at that height. And poor Galaxy getting hurt, how did they not see that coming.
I would never trade my dog’s health and safety for money, not even $250,000. I have very little respect for anyone involved with this show.
I think the fairest thing to do in the last challenge would have been to expose the dog to the height etc prior to the final test. To train the dogs in harness on very low elevation practice equipment certainly doesn’t equate to putting them on something many many times higher and expecting them to just jump off. Any dog who tends to think independently will stall at that point. That’s where breed characteristics come into play. I’d MUCH rather have a dog that can think than one who blindly does whatever I say. Same with the elephant. If the dogs had been exposed to an elephant prior to the challenge, it would have made more sense from a real life perspective. What were they trying to test anyway? Which dogs will THINK and avoid a potentially dangerous situation or blindly (read that ’stupidly’) follow the handler’s commands. I know which kind of dog I’d want!
As far as I’m concerned, Star IS the Greatest American Dog and it really doesn’t matter that happens on the show from now on. I applaud the partnership of Bill & Star and the qualities both showed on the show. I would aspire to emulate Bill as a trainer who freely shares his insights with others and I don’t feel that way about the other pairs. Star showed the intelligence I admire in a dog and the ability to think about a situation. It’s a partnership of mutual respect and I admire that more than anything.
I was very disappointed to see Star and Bill lose last night. I do not understand how the Judges picked Star and Bill to lose when Laurie and Andrew did the same routine. Both picked the easier ramp, both walked the plank and both Andrew and Star refused to jump. So why did Bill and Star get chosen to leave. Bill and Star were the real STARS of the show. The dogs who jumped the tower were the large dogs. The small dog Andrew and the medium size dog Star were asked to jump the same distance as the big dogs this was not fair. I think the Judges were wrong and need to bring Star and Bill back. They were eliminated in error. Either bring Bill and Star back or eliminated Laurie and Andrew since they also refused to jump. I agree with others that to expect a dog to sit and stay while a elephant is coming to you is cruel. Would the Judges sit in a circle and let the elephant charge them? Bill and Star we will miss you. Bill you are a wonderful person and I loved the relationship you have with Star. I am so sorry to see you go. The show will not be the same.
I was shocked and sad to see Bill and Star expelled! I never had any real doubts that they’d win the whole thing. My heart goes out to them — they’ve done a wonderful job and been a great example of what a great American dog and owner should be.
I don’t know that Andrew was really displaying courage with the elephant — I got the impression he just wasn’t smart enough to realize he was in any kind of danger. At any rate, he wasn’t courageous enough to make the jump, and I wish he’d gotten expelled instead of Bill and Star.
Galaxy rocks — what else can I say? That dog is amazing. I so hope she recovers to be able to finish the competition, but I’ll be glad if JD pulls her out if she can’t get better soon enough. Still, I hope they go on to win the whole thing.
i love star and bill you will be miss on the show i was not happy with the judges pick. you and starhave a great relationship wth each other that is great. the show will not be the same you were my pick to win . bill take good care of star .star did a great job. on the show the judges should do some of the stuff that you and star had to do and see how will they can do the stuff the you and star did. you will be miss.

As a volunteer for over 25 yrs. with my local Humane Society, I was deeply disappointed in last nights episode. The challenges put all the dogs in jeopardy and the explusion of Bill and Star was totally off the mark. Its seems to me that consultants with some common sense might benfit the show. Hopefully, the show will learn from prior mistakes. Bill and Star should be reinstated. They set the standard when to comes to love and mutual respect for each other.
Don’t know if dogster has this capacity but I’d love to see a survey box will ability to vote for a pair. Include all the pairs from the beginning since the judges are making arbitrary and senseless decisions at this point (OK…a little bias is showing…). I’d bet Bill & Star would receive the ‘popular’ vote by a landslide (more bias showing). Kinda like ‘America’s Favorite’ on Survivor!
Add me to the list of viewers who are very displeased with the judges hypocrisy. Last week they told Bill he pushed Star too far. He may have, but not to an un-called for extreme. Field dogs can not be pampered and have to withstand much more. She just happens to be a old dog who is slowing down. Then this week the Judges said Bill didn’t push Star enough?! My jaw hit the floor; I thought they would have been pleased with his decision with the less inclined ramp. It was OBVIOUS to me the moment they walked the dogs out for the challenge that there was NO way Star was going to make it up the red ramp on her own. Not safely.
It just added insult to injury when the judges nominated J.D. special recognition. Here was a perfect case of someone pushing a dog too far. The judges words made things even worse, talking of this “special bond”. The dog is just obsessively driven, and knows doing whatever else will be more pleasant than his owner’s wrath.
Kudos to ALL the dogs on the elephant challenge! If you ask me, the dogs that gave some reaction were smarter than the others that over reacted or gave no reaction at all. Nothing wrong/perfectly acceptable with having a bit of an aversion or curiosity to something coming right at you. I also see the reason behind doing a perfect sit-stay. If you’re dog is about to chase a squirrel across a heavily trafficked road it’s nice to have that perfect obedience from them… It helps knowing that you can reliably get them to listen even for the biggest distractions.
I really think the challenges went too far this week. The best of dogs wouldn’t jump that distance. Kudos to Andrew for just sitting there with the elephant…and he was the smallest dog!
I will miss Bill & Star but not the judges. After what happened last night I will no longer be watching the show!
Thank you Nancy for contacting the Humane Society. Why isn’t the American Humane Society on the set like they are on movie sets. I have many things to say about this show, Disapointment, Inhumane, dangerous, stupid, cruel, etc. I am glad to see that everyone (so far) who took the time to comment are in agreement with each other. I too hope that Galaxy is going to get better.
One my worst nightmares has aways been that one my animals would leap from a high place.
I have lost any respect I had for the three Judges.
Please, Please, Please bring Bill and Star back. If ever someone deserved a second chance, it is those two. His compassion for his dogs and others is so unusal and refreshing to see on a reality show, and quite frankly the judges should be consistent and clear on what they are expecting, pushing the dog too hard versus not hard enough. If Galaxy is forced to leave the show because of her injury, than bring back Bill and Star. Without them there really is no reason to continue seeing the show.
I was totally disgusted with the challenges last night. Both were not tests of courage as far as I could see. Who wouldn’t run if a 9000 pound elephant was coming at you!!!
To put these poor dogs and owners through the stress of these particular challenges was inhumane.
Bill and Star should be reinstated or at least given very special recognition. The judges should be made to sit in the little circle and watch the elephant come roaring down on them! I wouldn’t want any of those 3 judges anywhere near my dog. All 3 judges should question what happened on the show last night and weigh it against the money they are getting to be there every week and if they really are lovers of dogs, they would pass up the money.
Bill and Star are the winners hands down, they were right from the beginning. Thankfully no other dog was injured in either stunt. Poor Galaxy! The judges should be very grateful that more dogs didn’t get hurt.
Won’t be watching again which is sad because I really enjoyed the show, even the painting night.
Just wouldn’t be the same without Bill and Star. I’m glad Star didn’t jump or Star might have ended up hurt too and that would have broken Bill’s heart.
Bill and Star–you are the best of the best.
Jean
The practice runs were close to the ground, then the challenge was huge. I’ve known a few trainers of stunt dogs and they would have spent way more than 24 hours training dogs for this type of jump. Whether the judges have knowledge of the stunts before they’re done, or not, I don’t know. Star is an older dog and may not have the eyesite to clearly see that big of a jump, or maybe she’s too smart. Obviously something was wrong in the fitting of the harness or in how Galaxy landed. The judges should never have let the obstacle zip line be set for that high of a jump if they truly care about the dogs.
As the owner of an “orange” Brittany ourselves, and fellow residents of Texas, we agree with many who say that Bill and Star were the main attraction of this program. His sincerity, warm heart, caring relationship with Star, and his willingness to help others are all part of what our family sees as the “Greatest American Dog Owner.” There’s no doubt that our whole family’s interest in watching the rest of this contest has been deflated by the shocking results of last night’s show, highlighted by terrible judging decisions.
I’m not really sure if I put the blame entirely on the judges, though. While I agree that they have been somewhat schizophrenic in their criticisms (”you’re pushing too hard”/”you’re not challenging your dog enough), part of the blame must be put on the producers of the show who are coming up with these nonsensical challenges. Clearly, JD and Galaxy are the most talented pair left; but since she’s injured (no doubt from the harness and zip line travesty), it would appear that Theresa and Leroy would be the favorites. I know that’s who we’ll be cheering for, particularly due to their close friendship with Bill and Star.
I believe that Travis and Presley are just getting by on sheer luck at this point. He may be a nice guy, and the dog is definitely improving each week, but I agree with one of the judges that “sit” and “stay” are Dog Training 101, and they don’t even have that down. And, despite Laurie’s show of “humanity” on last night’s show, I think she’s a cruel and vindictive person, one who truly doesn’t deserve to win. And Andrew is simply a fluff ball that is clearly not as smart, talented, or physically gifted as the other dogs.
I CONCUR WITH THE CONSENSUS- BRING BACK BILL & STAR! They were unjustly sent home. Eliminate Laurie and Andrew, who had the worst performance, and please get Galaxy some top-notch treatment. In about the space of five minutes last night this show lost the majority of its potential for future viewership- and that’s just sad.
This weeks challenges disturbed me a little. I think it was cruel to bring in the elephant. For the elephant as well as the dogs, but despite my feelings on the matter, I can’t deny that it was amazing to watch and I thought little Andrew did great. His mom bugs me a bit with how competetive she is, and I find Bill to be most sweet and ‘in it’ for the awsome experience. He clearly had the time of his life and I love his attitude. I will miss him and Star. These are 2 reality t.v. stars that I hope to see more of in the future.
As for the ‘flying dog’ bit, I thought that was cruel too. Andrew’s so-called stress was a normal reaction. My little guy does that too when he can’t jump down from a rock that’s too high.
I’m with most other people with how I feel about the judges. I don’t really care about their opinions any more, they are all over the place so I have no respect.
I can’t figure out who I’m rooting for. At this stage I reckon I like JD and Galaxy the best. I loved Galaxy’s waggy tail and I love guys who shred!
My husband and I talked about this. We love Bill and Star but, we think it was a good thing to get eliminated. They both were getting tired and he respects his dog so much not to push her.
We are worried about Galaxy. We have been through so many injuries and surgeries. JD goes love her very much. Hang in there Galaxy.
Travis and Presley have grown so much. I hate to hear the judge’s criticism of him. Heck, Presley is still a pup. He is a big breed that take time for the brain to catch up with the body.
Now, I am in a funk – Travis and Presley or JD and Galaxy.
Rhonda
Bring back Bill & Star!!!
The Greatest American Dog was sent home for being too smart!
Star stood up there on that platform and looked at Bill with those sweet eyes and said “I can’t fly!” And Bill looked at her and told her she didn’t have to! What a loving and caring relationship and a very smart dog.
I sure hope that Galaxy is ok — I think that the harness should have been a little better for the dogs — Presley is lucky that he didn’t hurt himself all of the twisting that he was doing on the way down.
I hope that Presley wins — I think that he is improving so much!
I think the elephant was a bit much for any dog. But that little Andrew was so great. To bad Presley is hurt and Bill and Star went home. I’m rooting for Andrew.
I was disappointed too to see Bill and Star leave….they were the best by far. Some of the tests they put them through are ridiculous, i.e. elephant. As far as I am concerned now that Bill and Star are gone the show is over for me.
I was very disappointed with last night’s show for all the reasons people have already mentioned: the potentially dangerous elephant and high wire acts, inconsistent judging, and encouraging dogs to leap from tall buildings.
The result seemed like an obvious decision to keep the last tiny dog on the show. If two dogs “fail” the challenge, shouldn’t the one that was given the advantage of special help be the one sent home?
As you know I have contacted the humane society. I was informed that they are only allowed on the set when the show is under union contract with the Screen Actors Guild. Because this a reality show, there exists a loophole and American Humane does not have to be on the set. CONTACT Jone Bouman (818) 501-0123 she is the person in charge at the humane society.
Just want to bark I too am upset at the show….however after jumping on the cbs website and reading their forum…..there was no one there feeling the same.
And no I wont be watching the end.
I am done with the show. The elephant challenge was ridiculous and the judges have no charisma.
I was so dissappointed in this weeks show. I thought what they put the dogs through this week was cruel and did not show me any compassion for the dog or its owners. The judges make comments all the time to have fun with this and be a good team with your dog showing them a good time. Are you for real? A dog having an elephant charge up to them and not moving is fun and good for the dog? It did not show courage. It showed stupidity. Then to top it off they had to jump off that plank! The dog does not know it is tied. You are basically demanding and telling the dog to do something that goes against it’s instint and better judgement all in the name of getting them to do it by demanding it and having fun! What are you thinking? You know the old saying would you jump off a cliff if someone told you to? Yes, the dumb ones would. The only smart dogs were the ones that did not jump. To see that little dog sit there while the elephant was right there was sad. To think the little thing would not budge just freaks me out. It would probably sit there if a car was coming right at him too if he was told to. Then on top of that the boxer was happy and getting praise for doing the dumb human exercise and the judge had the nerve to say the owner created a dangerous situtation by praising his boxer up on the high plank. The show created the whole dangerous situtation and then the winner got hurt. I have really enjoyed the show up until now. The smartest dog got booted out. I am not a fan anymore. I think the whole show was nothing but animal cruelty.
I, too, believe that last night’s competition was rather bogus—an elephant? This show is out-of-hand! They need some new writers for the program. Bill and Starr should NOT have been dismissed as they deserved another chance as others did. This show should have been just for “fun” and they should all have been to do competition again next week and at least have a valid competition where the dogs didn’t have to face an elephant for good ness sakes. The little Maltese was traumatized so much that she could NOT love out of the circle—I think I would have gone into a fetal position myself. I just think these remaining contestants and their pets should be given another week to actually show their abilities. I actually cried when Bill and Starr had to leave–even if it was a very royal and classy exit. I suspect that perhaps the event may have something to do with Galaxy’s injury—the harness could have caused stress and more on the older dogs. I am really hoping that she will be ok with special treatment as it would not be fair for them to have to forego the end of this competition. We should all write letters to this show and let them know that this idea was NOT proper for these animals—let’s do that now and show them that this act was NOT humane in any way for these animals who had no actual training for “stunt” dogs which are worked with for months before doing a stunt and are most likely younger when given training. I hope that Galaxy will not suffer because of this last competition. Let’s rally round!! AND—by the way I am a cat person but love these owners and their dogs and would NOT miss this show for anything–in fact I taped it while teaching class at a local university.

For those of you who are upset about the “cruelty” of last night’s dog challenges, please try to remember that dogs have been bred to do dangerous and exhausting tasks for centuries. Hunting, hauling, rescuing, guarding, tracking, police work, herding — these are some of the things that have made dogs so exceptionally helpful to mankind. Heck, Rhodesian ridgebacks were even bred to hunt lions! And shepherd dogs have had to protect the flock from wolves and other predators.
Our culture has gone a little insane with its good intentions for animals. Over-pampering dogs is not good for their health, as dogs need exercise, and there is always the risk of injury with exercise.
And I do not believe Galaxy was injured by the zip line jump. It was more likely the incline that gave her trouble, which would have caused her to use her fore and possibly overstrain her shoulder.
I have to disagree with everybody. Bill and Star should have been sent home last week instead of Bella Starlet. Everybody was so harsh when she was sent home. If you remember, the bottom three were Star, Presley, and Bella Starlet. NOTE: STAR AND PRESLY HAD THE LEG UP WITH THE PUPPIES IN THEIR ROOM AND STILL HAD TROUBLE WITH THE CHALLENGE. Do you really believe the dogs were in any danger from the elephant? The elephant was well-trained and the dogs were not going to attack, just become scared. I really wanted to see how Bella Starlet would have reacted to the elephant. Love all the judges except the girl with the little white dog. Why does she care about Leroy barking? I think that is part of his personality.
I realize I have already a very wordy comment but later, after reading all these replies—they should all be forwarded to the producer of this show and we should stand behind having Bill & Galaxy re-instated due to our comments. We could all have a dramatic effect on this show if we wanted to—–flood them with our remarks and maybe even get two different judges and fire the one responsible for the elephant episode-We can do this—there is always a chance for change when everyone makes their positions known.. I wish someone would somehow manage to forward every one of these comments to the producer of this show and rally behind Bill and Starr and I just pray that Galaxy will be able to stay in competition and hope that this stunt has not maimed him as that could be grounds for something called a “law suit”. Please–I implore all of us to do something about this episode and not let them get away with this. We, as spectators, can either make or break this show and they know that. Please, Please—let us do something and get some changes. There is POWER in numbers and we can have that POWER and effect on this show.
I agree that last night’s show was over the top. I applaud Andrew for being so brave against a charging elephant. Maybe he knew that elephants were afraid of mice. I think that Star was tired and ready to go home. She was so upset by the puppies last week. That was her turning point. I also hope that Galaxy did not have a stroke or heart attack. I think tha she is the best trained of all the dogs and wish her well. The barking dog is a happy dog, she is barking from glee, they should all deal with it.
Karen – how many puppies did Bella Starlet ‘lead’ out of the maze? Did Bella Starlet even figure out how to get out of the maze herself?? How quickly did Star get from maze entrance to Bill (a better partnership test than the silly ‘leading puppies out of the maze’ trick)? And was it 1 or 2 puppies that followed Star out? I’m pretty sure it was TWO. It was almost 3 puppies….if Bill had had a better ‘puppy calling’ voice, he’d probably have gotten that third one out like JD did. Shrug……
I SURELY AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE ABOUT THE SHOW LAST NIGHT. I ALSO THOUGHT LAST WEEK WAS A BIT TOO MUCH. BILL AND STAR WERE MY FAVORITE WILL MISS THEM, PLEASE BRING THEM BACK. HATS OF TO ANDREW, I WAS SO SCARED FOR HIM. WHERE DID THEY GET THESE JUDGES, JUST TERRIBLE. LOVE ALL THE DOGS AND I HAVE TWO OF MY OWN.
NANCY
You ask do you really believe the dogs were in any danger from the elephant? You are human. You know from the program the elephant is well trained and will not hurt the dog right? Do you think the dog sits there and reasons that out? Get serious. I think the smart dog would move. As far as dogs being bred and trained to do dangerous things, yes, the are. Trained to smell out danger, hunt etc. The key word here is TRAINED. Not just put in a cruel situation like that. The show is not consistant to what it claims about dogs at all. All in the name of intertaining us. Please give us more credit than that.
I had tears in my eyes when Bill and Star had to leave. Star may not be the very best at stunts, but the love between she and Bill is the best ever. I will miss seeing them. Thank you, Bill, for sharing with us.
If you watched closely there was a platform just below the one they jumped off for the zip line. As far as any of the dogs thought that was where they were jumping to. They did not know the zip line would prevent them from landing there and zip them off to the bottom. I don’t think the challenge was as awful as so many seem to think. But I am sad Bill and Star got expelled. I think the judges were sorry but they were the weakest in that particular episode. Star seems like a wonderful dog and Bill is a great owner/ trainer / person too.
I thought last nights show was CRUEL!!!! What dog in their
right mind would jump off of that height??? I think Galaxy was hurt by the harness itself. Please check it out. I have the show on tape so I can go over it again and I am totally disgusted with the so called “judges” that are supposed to know better. Shame on all of you!!!
I was horrified at the stunts that were shown last night. The notion of having a 9000 pound elephant charging after these dogs was ridiculous! I have always greatly admired the work that Victoria Stillwell does on the Animal Planet program “It’s Me Or The Dog” . However, to have these trusting creatures put in harm’s way in this fashion was unconsciable. I too, shall be registering a complaint with the Humane Society. Badly done job, producers and judges!!
Iagree Bill & Starr should not have been sent home. I also think that the judges do not give Travis & Presley enough credit. They are great together, as a Boxer owner for many years I can tell they are a great team and Presley really trust his owner.
Since the shows shining STARR is gone,
I will not be watching anymore, but will go on
this site to keep up.. The I don’t have to hear
those bickering B——’s any more
Sigh….I admit I cried as well. I didn’t care for the elephant thing. All animals can be unpredictable, and anything could have happened. However, I know they aren’t stupid and the elephant is probably very well trained. Obviously, this challenge could not have been put earlier in the competition.
Regarding the obstacle course…are the judges looking for blind loyalty to constitute success? Think of a guide dog. They are trained to refuse to budge in the presense of danger. They use their judgement to selectively disobey. In theory, a guide dog would never have taken that leap. So how can a dog with only a day of training be expected to blindly follow?
I don’t know…I don’t see Star and Andrew’s refusal to mean a lack of bonding, I see it as self protection. Anyway, my 2 cents.
On another note, does anyone know how to get the theme song to the show? I just love it and I think the words are a perfect reflection of our feelings for our pups. I’d love to have a download.
I sure will miss seeing Bill and Star, they were my favorite from the beginning. Bill is such a sweet devoted person and is very lucky to have Star who loves him so much. I wish all the others good luck but will miss seeing Bill and Star. No matter what, Star does have courage!!! Love you!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that, in addition to being incredibly stupid and potentially dangerous to the dogs, the elephant stunt was cruel to the elephant? The judges are wacked.
I do hope that BILL gets on this site, and
see’s how much support was behind him
and how much the public loved his little
STARR
It was so sad to see Bill and Star go. First I got depressed watching Tillman and Ron leave, and now this! They were my two favorites. I don’t think any of the dogs deserved to go home last night. They all did a wonderful job. Asking a dog to jump off a 30-foot ledge on a zip line is asking an awful lot. Star should not have been punished for that.
I cried when Bill and Star had to leave! I dont think that Star had to leave just because she didnt jump. Bill was listening to the judges becuse they said he pushed her to hard last time. I think that the challenges should have been different for courage. I really dont have any reason to watch now because my favorite pair is GONE!!!!!!
I really hope Galaxy is ok! They are the second pair I am rooting for. And as for the judges putting Travis and Presly in the bottom 3…… HOW DARE THEY!!!!!!!! Presley did everthing right and Travis was just encouraging him. WHATS WRONG WITH THAT?????? The judges should go not Bill and Star!!!!!!!
I cried when Bill & Star were let go last night, they felt like family. I believe the kindness he showed to the other cast memebers and the love he showed to his wife and Star made him feel like family.
I think dog owners share a special bond. I love this show.
I do not think there could have been a good choice last night. Like the judges said this vote was not going to be a favorable one.
Robin — I have to disagree with you that dogs are only trained and not deliberately put in danger. As I pointed out, Rhodesian ridgebacks were trained to hunt lions, and shepherd dogs are put into situations where they must guard the flock from predators. These dogs weren’t just trained to do these things, they actually performed these tasks, i.e. faced lions, wolves, bears, boars and humans up to no good. Anyone who thinks otherwise should really check up on the history of the dog.
It is only in the last few decades humans have become excessively squeamish and sentimental about dogs and other animals as well. I grow weary of this extremism.
I would love to see the Producers of this show apologize to it’s viewers, it’s contestants and especially Bill, Starr and Galaxy. But the truth is, they probably have already taped all these shows and the outcome is already been done. I just hope the judges watch their performance and are embarrased as they should be. The truth is if the gave any kind of integrity to this show, they would have refused to judge it, but then again, they are sitting there for the almighty buck, not the dogs and the bottom line is so are so are some of the contestants. Bill was the main person who brought dignity to the show and the dogs and now he’s gone, but in all honesty, I think Bill and Starr are above all that.
If this show even wants to have a second season they need to boot those absured judges and BRING BILL AND STAR BACK!!!!!! If they do that i gauruntee that there ratings will soar!!!!
It is a shame that Galaxy was likely injured by the harness during the jump. As for the Maltese winning the leg up competition, it was not courage, instead it was simple survival instincts – fight, flight, or FREEZE. Didn’t anybody notice her eyes closing to a squint? I am disappointed in the judges not making a remark about that, considering the remarks that they made about the stress signals at the jump portion of best in show.
Presley – it’s dangerous for you to be jumping around (as an “excitable” boxer) on such a high platform, but how about sitting in front of an elephant that may or may not listen to her trainer?
Isn’t the Humane Society watching?
In my opinion Laurie and Andrew should have gone home! Andrew did the exact same thing as Star in the best in show challenge! But I think that Bill and Star show a bond that is unbelieveable! That is what the show should be about not doing these ridiculous challenges!!!!!!
I am so glad I QUIT watching after the first episode. What a ridiculous format to put your dog/friend through. You could tell from the first night Bill and Star were the “stars” of the show based solely on devotion. I think they need to keep the reality shows to the silly humans who do them and not subject dignified dogs to such outlandish and staged performances.
This was a great show. The challenges are always interesting to watch – and makes me think of new ways to connect with our dog. I loved Bill and Star. Star is such a sweet dog and their relationship has been incredible to watch. I was definitely sad to see them go – all the pairs left now are great in unique ways.
Very sad at the end to see Galaxy injured. I think the judges have been way to harsh to JD and Galaxy so far. JD has a special bond with Galaxy – that dog can do anything (ok, except for sit still with an elephant charging). I really hope Galaxy is ok and only has a strain.
And I agree with the other comments above – one week the judges are all over the owners if they don’t finish something, another week they’re all over the owners if the push too hard. Their comments are a little mean sometimes – and all the dogs that are left are great dogs in their own way. Bill didn’t push Star any further than Star was comfortable. He could tell when it was time to stop. We’ll miss you two!
The elephant test was uncalled for and just plain stupid,in my humble opinion. It was not fair to the dogs or to the elephant. Go to youtube and look at some of the elephant videos. These animals should not be on show for our amusement. They are still wild animals that belong roaming free with their own kind. Think about it.
Best regards……….John in Austin
JP – You know that the livestock guarding breeds are large dogs for the most part and often outweigh the predators. It’s not like asking a pug to guard sheep against wolves. And dogs still do tasks every day. I happen to be a breed fancier for a sledding breed and three teams of purebred Siberians ran this year’s Iditarod and recreational teams of Siberians abound. I have experience with rough collies as well and used my rough collie daily in herding work. That’s what they were bred for. But jumping off immense platforms on a zip line without specific training on the equipment (with height) and facing down elephants (which none of those dogs had EVER been exposed to before….I’m quite sure)….that’s certainly not in the bag of tricks most breeds were bred to face. Let’s redo this show with breed specific tasks. Let’s consider age and size appropriate challenges. Let’s use a more objective point system (think formal Obedience scores…something like that). Let’s focus on the partnership of dog and handler. This show has a great premise and I think there are lots of folks out there who are dog fanciers and present an large potential audience. But I think quite a few folks are disappointed (probably an understatement) with this show. And I don’t feel I am being excessively squeamish by objecting to challenges that have the potential to damage either the mental or physical dog because that specific dog lacks the inherant ability to excel in that situation. That’s very different from asking a herding dog to herd (shrug).
About Galaxy’s injury – I was wondering today if he could have hurt himself jumping ‘out of’ JD’s arms in general, not necessarily as result of the obstacle course/jump harness. A few times I’ve seen the dog jump in his arms and jump back out. It ocurred to me today that the injury could be totally unrelated to the last event. Galaxy completed it fine – and they lowered the dog to the ground. Just wondering – and actually why I came to the site today b/c I really don’t want to wait for the drama to unfold next week. I’m surprised they didn’t insist on an xray right away.
Star is the GREATEST AMERICAN DOG!!!!!
If Galaxy has to leave because of his injury may be they will bring back Bill and Star.
Wow are we gonna miss Bill & Star. Great sportsmanship both of you. Star is a great dog and you are a great person. Please email us and keep us updated somehow on you two and give your wife & family our love. Beth & family (and Ace, Dixie and Daisy)

I do think the Elephant stunt was a bit too much. I was terrified for the dogs. I think I would have taken my dog and walked away from that challenge.
I didn’t think THE AMAZING RACE or SURVIVOR came on until September! That’s what I felt I was watching last night.
Do the producers of this show have sawdust for brains?
An elephant is NOT a domesticated animal-they are wild creatures and can be unpredictable. It doesn’t matter how great Susie’s trainer is. If something went wrong or distracted her it could have been disasterous. It wasn’t the least bit exciting to watch. I was afraid for the dogs. And, yes, I’m sure there were other people there to make sure everything went as planned, but there are times that things happen that aren’t planned. How many people would it take to control a 9000lb. elephant?
As for the stunts, WHAT were they thinking. No matter what your dogs physical ability is, that piece of torture equipment was not necessary. What makes the producers of this show think that this type of challenge would not be harmful to a PET. Not a working dog, not a movie stunt dog, but a member of a family that can’t tell you how they feel. I honestly don’t think this will help this show’s ratings.
Personally, I think all 3 judges and the producers should have had to do the same things the teams had to do. Wonder how they would have reacted to a charging elephant with their backs turned to it!
Judges, would you please stop being so wishy-washy. One week you don’t like JD’s training techniques, the next week you do. To tell the truth, I don’t think you even know what you like. I take that back, we do know who your obvious favorite is-Andrew. Your whole demeanor changes when you talk to Lori. So, what has Andrew done during the show that has been so outstanding? Stayed glued to Lori, did a horrible painting and looked terrified facing a charging elephant. Usually, when confronted by something that is unknown, the flight or fight mechanism kicks in. The other dogs left(normal behavior). Andrew certainly didn’t fight, so only fright would be left, too frightened to move. Again, the judges voted the wrong team off.
God Bless Bill and Starr. They were an AWESOME team and they will be missed. Things really should have been managed differently. Why didn’t the judges just decide to keep everyone this week. Just like some weeks they don’t vote someone off of the other reality shows. Bill was kind and generous and a true gentleman. I love them both.
Again, Travis and Pressley were trampled on by the judges. Pressley is still A PUPPY. Don’t they get it. Yeah, sit and stay are basic commands, but too much excitement and outside stimulus(elephant) makes it difficult for a young energetic dog. Think you could get a 3 year old kid to sit and stay in the same situation!!!??? I’m still pulling for these two. They have come a long way.
JD and Galaxy are so in tune to one another. JD’s method of play reward works wonderfully for Galaxy. She loves what she does and her love for JD shines. It doesn’t matter which part of the obstacle she hurt her shoulder on. It matters that she will be OK and that nothing like that should ever happen again. Galaxy, we’re all praying for you.
Teresa and Leroy are wonderful, too. I have really changed my opinion of her. She loves her dog and he loves her. So he barks; he’s a BORDER COLLIE , doing what instinct tells him to do. Back to the working dog or any dog that has been bred for a specific purpose. They do what they do because it’s in their genes. I’ve never met a Border Collie that doesn’t bark!
After all that’s said, I still like Travis and Pressley. Just a goofy ole Boxer with a wonderful personality.
Regarding episode #8 on 8/27/08. That was ridiculous and dangerous to put a dog through the elephant stunt — walking and charging at dogs. An elephant is considered a wild animal and might turn at any moment. The dogs were in danger not to mention the people. The harness stunt was also dangerous to make dogs jump off that high. As you can see, a dog is now hurt because of the stupidity. And also to make the people do the same thing? Was this the “Great American Person” show too. How stupid was this? I consider this treatment to the dogs as inhuman and abuse of animals, including forcing the elephant to charge at dogs. What was this show thinking of? Not worth the money to put my dog in that kind of danger. This show should be reprimanded and apologies to the public and the owners for this awful forced act. I would have walked out. The judges are no better — changing their rules from one week to the next regarding Bill and Star. SHAME on them for not stopping this abuse and SHAME on CBS for allowing this horrible display. Please e-mail CBS with your complaints. http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.php

This was an incredibly sad show because Star and her star owner, Bill, left the show. Was there a dry eye in the house? I don’t think so. We’ll miss you, “Bill”! Good luck with “Star.” Be in health… Char
Are they kidding?? I was aghast at last night’s show! Bill and Star were my favorites. The love between those two was a joy to behold, and Bill is the total family man. I could not believe what the judges said to him at the final commen phase. Last week he was chastized for encouraging Star to round up the last puppy – they said he pushed her too hard. this week, she didn’t jump, so he gets chastized for not using the tougher ramp and expelled because Star – smart little dog that she is – wouldn’t jump. Did you see the look on her beautiful little face? She looked at him as if to say, “You must be kidding, Dad.” Her look said it all!
The elephant stunt was way over the top! If I was sitting in that circle as a human and I saw an elephant comiing at me like that, no way would I remain in the circle! It reminded me of the movie JURASSIC PARK, when the T-Rex went after the children in the kitchen. They wisely couldn’t get away fast enough. How Andrew stayed still for a charging elephant is beyond my comprehension, unless he was too frozen in fear to move.
I won’t watch this show again. without Bill & Star, there is just no reason to do so. He was the patriarch of the show, and Star was his little girl. They should have won the entire competition.
Poor Galaxy! It’s ironic that Star & Galaxy – both females – are the same age. Galaxy jumped and got hurt… Star didn’t jump and walked out. My prayers are with Galaxy so nothing happened to her that is serious.

BRING BACK BILL AND STAR!! Last nights show was VERY disappointing! They have been my choice since the first show! Star is an amazing and beautiful dog. Bill is a sample of how all humans should be. They will be sorely missed. My heart is broken. They should have won it all. My prayers are with Galaxy and JD. I hope she is feeling better!
I couldn’t agree more! I think they are putting these animals and the people in impossible and dangerous situations and then judging them in a very arbitrary manner. I consider intentionally trying to frighten a dog a form of animal cruelty. I am disappointed that the powers that be at CBS allowed this to be televised.
Bill and Starr were my choice to win the overall competition and I, too, had a tear as they were “expelled”. I will continue, however, to watch the show. The other dogs are equally wonderful and I am hoping for the viewing public to receive an “on air” apology on the next episode regarding the treatment of these dogs and their owners.
I hope Galaxy is OK. No reason any dog should have ever been injured on this show.
Bill and Star, you are the GREATEST AMERICAN TEAM!!!! We love you! I agree with everyone else that last night’s show was rediculous! What American dog has ever seen an elephant or what sensible dog owner would have taught their dog to leap off a 20 ft platform?? Ludicris… Sorry, Galaxy! We hope you get well! Don’t know who to root for now- the others are all good- but Bill and Star have our hearts!
Of course I am truly hoping that Travis and Presley come out on top. I know what it is like to train boxers. Travis has done a remarkable job in just a little over a year. I also agree with other comments about how the judges make the pairs feel “damned if they do and damned if they don’t.” Travis has been a great sport and is supportive of all of the other contestants…even the wackos! I believe the judges should have taken into account that a man Bill’s age should not have been penalized for taking the blue ramp. I will really miss Bill and Star. In the same vein, my older boxer would also have been injured going on a 32 foot suspended jump like Galaxy, and at age 61 there would be no way I would have run up the red ramp. The elephant challenge did not bother me. Elephants are very intelligent and I’m sure this one was well screened for agression towards canines. GO TRAVIS AND PRESLEY!! Sally, Cedar, and I are big fans!
Have you lost your minds!!!!! An elephant charging dogs, having dogs jump off 30ft………….I will stop watching this show, I will not support any of the sponsors . STOP dormenting mans’ best friend.!!!!! Would you take an elephant into a day care and see what children ran away. The dogs that left the circle were the smart ones! I have to wonder about the judges that would allow such a stupid stunt! I hope the magazine’s that they work for take a good hard look at the people they hire. CBS is this worth the ratings? Out in OK we take better care of our animals.
According to Victoria Stilwell’s board host, Galaxy was injured playing fetch with JD but the show has been edited to make it look as if she was hurt right after the zip line stunt. Maybe true, since Galaxy did trot away without any sign of a limp.
BTW, only one person over there has questioned the things that went on during the show and they got a big lecture for asking about it.
I thought last night’s show was in extremely poor taste. NEVER should a 9,000 pound elephant charge a small animal. Elephants are wild and unpredictable. Someone, or someone’s dog, could have been injured. I also thought the “flying” stunt was horrible. Dogs do not naturally “fly.”. I wonder if the animals who refused to jump weren’t the smart ones! You’ve lost my respect and this will be the last of your shows that I watch.
Diane
I have not been able to catch any of the episodes, but I must say…I am VERY disappointed. Having an elephant charge your dog is STUPID! Even a person would run from a charging elephant!!
I’m done with this show. The task they put these poor dogs up against last night lack judgement. Last week bill was put down for pushing Star, this week he didn’t and got the boot. I will never watch this show again. The judges are suppose to be animal lovers. What a joke. It’s all about the MONEY and Ratings.
Bill you did the right thing not to make your dog jump ! next time these dogs jump 30 feet they might not have a harness on but they won’t know it. Best of luck to galaxy hope him gets better.
I think Bill don’t everything right with star , I dont’ think he is disappointed in star what so ever.. But I almost came unclued when they said Travis and Presley , until they said will remain at. But I am really concern for Gallaxy, he is so well trained. But he his hurt and if he has to go home he should be honored. I have been pulling for little Presley and Travis cause Presley has never been trained.. But I don’t want to see any animal hurt.
We will miss Bill and Star. They are the epitome of how a dog and owner should react to one another. Bill was wonderful to help share his training tips with the others, and didn’t feel the urge to hide his methods from the other players (JD…)
I feel the show should put dogs in actual situations they might encounter, so unless they plan to be on the next Survivor in Africa, leave out the potential danger of an elephant!
Everyone wants a fan favorite and last night’s evictees could win, hands down! God love you, Texas!
I don’t like the judges on this show and agree with everyone that they are sending mixed messages. I honeslty would not want one of them training my dog. I believe that 2 of the judges pride themselves on being stellar trainers. Perhaps they should go to a personality boot camp to get a doggone personality.
Bill and Star took their direction from the maze go around and then got burned by it last night when he chose not to push Star. Yes, they have lost another viewer and a few viewer friends of mine as well. The elephant stunt was inhumane and should have never been allowed to happen in the first place. They put the owner and dogs in harms way for ratings which is not right!
Galaxy probably got hurt when he was dangling from that harness, another bad stunt that could have traumatized any dog. Hope and pray Galaxy will be ok.
Where did they find these judges? Travis and Presley did everything they were supposed to (with great enthusiasm) and the idiot judges put them in the bottom three? These two “lady” judges are a total mess. Last week they are at each other’s throats about how terrible JD is with his training methods and this week they are extolling his virtues and jumping all over Travis. I love watching the dogs, but the people we could do without.
I was so very proud of Bill and Laurie for not insisting that their dogs jump. That was a lot to ask of a dog. But, the elephant was way too much. That should never have been done. I think that was very cruel.
Last night’s show was crazy, little Andrew was awesome with the elephant, he didn’t even bark once. I would have screamed, jump who knows if I saw an elephant running towards me. I was hoping that Bill and Star would be in the final’s. I wish Bill and Star the best. I hope Galaxy will recover before next week.
I will miss you Bill and Star..and the show will not be the same without you. You both are the perfect picture of a man and his best friend. Part of me knows that you will both be glad to go home in a way. Best of luck in all your future project and best of luck to the rest of the gang.
I love this show and will miss Bill and Star so much. They both were so devoted to each other. I don’t blame them for not pushing their dogs to jump. Remember the judges stated, “it has to be FUN for the dog”. What happen to that thought when they choose to have an elephant charging at them? This was NOT a good choice for the show…and the jumping was too much for these dogs with their age and backgrounds. I am sure none of the dogs had ever been expected to do such an outragious stunt before in their everyday life. I agree with all of the comments about the negativity of the choices for this show.
I hope Galaxy is okay.
I too will miss Bill and Star. They were GREAT! Bill is such a wonderful family man and loves his wife and Star so much. The world needs more like him.
The judges are wishy washie and I don’t think they are the pros they fess to be!
I would like to see more Dog Reality Shows, but not at the expense of any dog’s safety.
I love the show, but last night was unbelievable. To make the dogs stay while an elephant comes so close to them was cruel and unfair. Both species are animals, one domestic and one wild, you can never predict what will happen regardless of how well trained they are.
Shame on the producers of the show for allowing such a stunt! How does scaring your dog to death equate with training? I would not have stood there while an elephant charged me, why would I ask my dog too? Couldn’t they have used something like a remote control car? Instead of an unpredictable wild animal?
I spent the whole show, saying , “I can’t believe they would allow this”. I am still in shock.
JP: I think you misunderstood my point. I understand and am aware that some dogs are trained and do perform (i.e. lion hunting). My point is that they are bred and trained for it FIRST and you also mention a certain breed. These are different breeds that are family pets who have not been bred or trained to face elephants. Would you put on a parachute, jump out of an airplane without getting trained first? Would you have any dog face a lion without first knowing the dogs capabilities and having it properly trained? As far as the elephant is concerned what breed is trained and bred for that? Maybe a circus dog? Well, I am sure they train the dog FIRST. That is my point. These dogs were just put in that position without any warning or training. To me that is just plain cruel. If you don’t think it is, then you have a right to your opinion, but I sure hope you don’t subject your dog to anything dangerous without the proper training and abilities.
I agree with most of you who thought that the judges do not know what they’re talking about. I would expect from someone who’s supposed to be an expert on dogs, to take the breed of the dogs, into consideration. Take Leroy for example, he’s a border collie, and they are bred to herd livestocks. And one of their ways to keep livestock in place is to bark. So the judges should expect a border collie to bark when he gets excited.
FYI Andrew did not freeze. If he was scared he would have cowered or ran away, but not freeze. We are talking about a dog people not a possum. I have not seen a dog freeze because he was scared. For those who are dismissing Andrew as a fluff ball without any intelligence or talent. If you were an small dog, would you jump off that height? I dont think so. Andrew’s smart enough to know that he could get hurt. Yes maltese are small dogs who think they’re big. I have one who behaves like a doberman.
I’m terribly sad to see Bill & Star leave. Bill is the best person in the whole group, but I think his home sickness rub off on Star. And I cant blame him, being far away from your spouse is very hard. to Bill and Star the best of luck to you both and for the rest of the dogs and their owners, goodluck and be careful.
My heart was broken when Bill was told that he and Star were expelled. He handled it with the high level of class that we have grown to expect from Bill. They were truly the stars of this show, and I will miss them. Why was the blue ramp there anyway? Was it only there for Andrew’s use because of his size? He was not chastized for using it, but Star was. Shouldn’t Bill’s age be considered a factor too? Was the point of the dogs “flying” supposed to show the trust that the dogs have for their owners. Galaxy showed this trust (bless her heart), and she was rewarded with an injured shoulder. Will this teach her not to trust JD in the future? I hope she doesn’t have to go home because of her injury. Maybe Animal Planet needs to give Bill and Star their own show, and they could have other amazing dogs as guests on their show. That way we could still see the orange dog that we have grown to love, and her wonderful owner too. We could even meet Bill’s wife.
I saw wenesday’s episode of GAD, & I was hoping that Bill & Star would make it through, but the judges punished Bill for Star not going down the zip line, but I saw that Andrew did the same thing as Star, not going down the zip line. Also I think that the people that put this show & challenges together should do like what the people behind Survivor do with there challenges, testing the challenges out to make sure that no one got hurt before putting the challenges in Survior, because if the people behind GAD would have only tested the challenges out before taping the show, Galaxy would have not gotten hurt. Also I think that the second challenge in last night’s episode should not have been in the show because you have Laurie & Bill who were having a hard time going up the ramp due too the fact that they are not as young as some of the other contestants & might have gotten too tired from just going up the ramp before having a chance to finish the challenge, even though they went up the easy ramp, & also I think that Andrew & Star were so tired from going up the ramp & going across the narrow walk way, that when they got to the zip line, they didn’t have the energy to go down the zip line & also they were probably intimidated, like the other dogs at first, by how far up they were.
I think that even though JD & Galaxy went through the second challenge without a hitch, the GAD trainer that checked out Galaxy should have pulled her out so that her shoulder would have time to heal & Bill & Star could have stayed in the game a little longer.
What happened to the dogs having fun. Remember when Star left the stage, and ran to the judges to be petted? Victoria Stillwell said that she liked to see that because it meant that Star was having fun, and that is what this competition was all about. None of the dogs looked like they were enjoying having an elephant come towards them, or being coaxed to jump off on a dangerously high platform. Even the show that had the puppies on it was stressful for the dogs. Presley was the only one who seemed to be having fun that week, because he is still a pup himself.
I really do wish as an audience there was something we could do. This show could be a lot of fun if it was done with judges who were consistant and gave a little more to dogs that compete out of their category. (i.e. Maltese jumping etc.) The critisism that the judges give so much of the time is just plain mean hearted and does nothing to give encouragement or suggestions how to do a better job. The judges have gotten very typical and boring leaving the audience without any respect for their opinions.
As far as the elephant goes, my personal problem was that even if the elephant was the best trained elephant out there, you still do not know how those dogs are going to react. I have 1 Golden Retriever and 2 Havanese dogs. I hate to say this and I would not know it myself if I hadn’t seen my Havanese do it, but she does freeze if she gets terribly scared. For those of you who don’t know what a Havanese is, it is a breed of it’s own, but it is maltese and poodle type. My other Havanese barks and goes after something she is scared of. What if that had happened in this show? I do beleive with all my heart after witnessing my own dog freeze, just like that is what Andrew was doing. Let’s take a look at courage here. What did the dogs learn? Some of them learned to do what they are told at all costs. Maybe that is not so bad, but I do pause at what they were demanded to do. To me, to have a good relationship with your dog, you have trust. Trust includes that dog needs to get that you will protect it. Protecting it does NOT include having it stay when a big thing is approaching it or asking it to jump 30 feet.
I guess I have said too much, but it really bothered me to the core. Sure I loved Starr and Bill and I am sorry they are gone. If they had left under circumstances that were fair and right, I would say, they did a great job and not complain, but this was just WRONG and I know who the real stars of the show are. Thanks Bill for showing us what it is to be a real caring person. You would make a great judge. Fair, honest and encouraging. Thanks Bill
I really like Michelle’s idea of Bill & Star having their own show! We should hook him up with David Hartwig (of Skidboot fame) since they both live in northeast Texas! They could show the rest of the world how to have a great relationship with God’s finest 4-legged creature…
Bill and Star you are a class act and truly have a wonderful relationship. Sorry you had to \be let go. Hugs to you both and Bless you both. I did not like the challenge at all.
Have been reading all the comments about last night’s show and the one word that kept coming back to me was what one of the judges said when she expelled one pair weeks ago–the dog that was expelled was not having fun! Where was the “fun” last night for either the owners or the dogs. How come the judges didn’t put a stop to it at the time or did they really believe that the challenges last night were “fun”?
Jean Cape Cod
Well—it’s me again —and—after reading all these comments after mine—come on–we can do something to change this show—-just contact CBS, PETA, ASPCA and let our opinions be known—–this show is losing many viewers due to the elephant episode and also due to the terrible judges—–we can make a difference if we DO SOMETHING and not just put words on this blog—I am e-mailing all the above this evening—please do the same—-let’s quit talking about how terrible this episode was and try to get something done for future shows and animals. GET BUSY !!!!!!
I haven’t watched this stupid show since the second episode and came here today to “catch up”. WOW… what a mess! Some days all you can do is roll your eyes! I can’t for the life of me understand why ANYONEYa’ll can contact all the agencies and CBS too, but it won’t do any good. I wrote to CBS, the Humane Society, and even PETA weeks ago and not one of them had the courtesy to reply.
sorry my last post messed up….. my point is, WHY IS ANYONE STILL WATCHING THIS SHOW??!!!
I wonder if you people would be complaining about the “animal cruelty” displayed in this week’s challenges if the almighty Bill and Star hadn’t been eliminated? Some of you really need to get a clue. Bill was portrayed to be the “hero” of this show no matter what. Nobody is as perfect as he has been portrayed and I’m quite sure Bill would be the first one to admit this. I’m sure Bill did things that could have made him look bad but the producers chose not to show it, right Bill?
As for Bill choosing not to make Star do the zipline, that’s something else you should ask him about. Being the honest, honorable man he is, I’m sure he’ll tell the truth, right Bill?
There have been many previews that clearly showed Star going down the zip line. Hmmm, how could that be when supposedly she didn’t jump?
Yikes is all I have to say.
I hope Galaxy is ok.
Did you guys know that Bill and Star have their own web site? I found it through Yahoo by typing in Bill and Star, but I have not had a chance to check it out myself. I hope everyone has a wonderful, but safe holiday weekend.
I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the challenges each week. I think they are not only ridiculous but now are becoming dangerous. How can you sit there and yell at your dog to stay while an enormous wild animal that they have never seen comes charging at them???? Shame on the producers of this show. Shame on the judges as well, they contradict themselves every single week!! I really used to like Victoria Stillwell, but after her participation in this show I have lost respect for her. As for as the other two, I have no comment that is nice, let’s put it that way. Then did anyone catch the condescending tone in which they asked JD what happened to Galaxy????? Hmm, maybe it had something to do with asking a 9 year old dog to climb and jump from an unsafe height with a harness on?????? Ridiculous! I hope this is the first and last season for this show. Hopefully no one gets hurt more seriously before it is over.
Saw this, this morning on PetConnection.com
http://www.petconnection.com/blog/2008/08/29/dead-to-me-now/
What you saw on TV was not what actually happened, not even close. I see no reason to continue watching.
Next week’s episode: Dogs must remain still while a freight train loaded with dynamite comes hurling at them. If they move they will fall into a tank full of mutant sharks with lazers attached to their heads.
Jennifer: The assessment of the challenges as presented on the show (without the clarification subsequently presented via interviews etc) has nothing to do with Bill & Star individually. The complaints were general in nature. All we, as viewers, can respond to is the show as presented to us. Analysis of THAT data leads to some pretty obvious general conclusions (shrug).
I read a blog how this episode was really staged but it seems to me that this was a very dangerous challenge. The dogs and their owners are wonderful and I hope they all come away from this experience not traumatized. I have two small dogs so I admire Andrew for his courage. I don’t think mine could even make the ramp. Oh well, TV reality is aimed to shock I just hope the dogs are really safe. Michale
I agree with many of the other posters’ comments of last week’s show. The zip line was just stupid, period. Galaxy is now injured, and I bet it was from the harness when she jumped. The harness bothered Star as well, and if she had jumped, she too might have been injured.
I applaud Bill for stopping, and not pushing his “orange dog” any further when it was obvious, she wasn’t going to jump. Last week, Bill was lectured on not pushing Star, and this week let go, because he didn’t.
The elephant was ludicrous for so many reasons including what many have stated. What if the elephant had kept going and killed one of the dogs? An elephant is a huge animal, and we all know how animals, including our own pets can change their usual behavior for any number of reasons. The end result could have been disastrous.
My husband saw this episode and a few of the others, and we both said people like Bill, you just don’t meet everyday. He was a class act; kind, helpful, and just wanted to bring joy to other dog lovers. Bill brought compassion to the show, unlike some others who didn’t want to “share” their knowledge, and just want to win, and we all know who they are. Bill was always polite with the judges even when the comments were negative, and never argumentive. He was friendly to all, and the ultimate characteristic of compassion, shared his years of knowledge and wisdom to Travis and Presley, among others. In my opinion, that makes Bill and Star, winners and heroes in our eyes.
Jennifer:
To answer your question, if I would be complaining if Bill and Starr had not been removed from the show, my answer is a great big YES. If it was staged, then it was stupid. If it was real then it was dangerous no matter who got eliminated. If you read most of the posts the fact that Bill was such a nice guy was another thought process, but most people believe that this went too far for the dogs sake, the contestants and the viewers. Since Bill and Starr did get eleminated with this outrages show, then people tend to be more upset, but I am telling you the truth, I was sorry to see Bill and Star go, but my complaint was about the stupidity of it all to say the least.
Thanks to Dutch I read the Pet Connection. To be honest, it really makes no difference whether the humane society was there or not. Has this show been a sham from the very beginning? Are the producers all Democrats? They lie about as much. And no, I don’t beleive everything I see. I
still take issue with the way this show has been “sold”. It would have been nice to see these dogs and their owners take part in things like doggie good citizenship, or do challenges like taking them to nursing homes(with permission of course.).. . What they have done makes absolutely no sense at all. What does sitting in front of an elephant prove; no matter if it was old or not.
And, yes, Jennifer, I think all of us would still complain about the cruelty to the pets and the elephant, no matter who got kicked off that episode.
I really hope this show will not get picked up again.
Just an afterthought…Maybe the producers and the sponsors of GAD should consider donating money they may make from this show to ANGEL’S GATE. That way, at least that would be doing a good deed for animals in need.
