New Episode: Greatest American Dog Tonight!

Greatest American Dog continues it’s journey in selecting America’s greatest dog tonight at 8ET/7CT.
Take a break from the Olympics and watch your favorite canines compete for the gold, doggie bone gold to be exact.
Tonight’s competition is focused on painting, and with Michael Phelps busy at the Olympics, it’s anydog’s opportunity to win.
If you want to get to know each of the contestants a little bit better, don’t forget to check out their Dogster page. There’s also a lot happening on the Greatest American Dog Fan Club group, so make sure to check it out
Enjoy the show and we’ll do a recap tomorrow.

Okay, talk about inconsistencies. Laura turns on Dave and Elvis, and they get thrown out but Laura stays des[ite a mediocre performance by her dog and unscrupulous behavior by her. Today’s episode Lori rats on Beth Joy and Bella Starlet and Lori gets thrown out. I don’t get it !!! It is America’s greatest dog, but the owners should be humane and have some principles. These 2 decisions are totally inconsistent. Why Andrew still has a shot is beyond me…
yeah I don’t like the female judges at all.
I don’t think Preston should gotten booted out tonight.
I liked Bill and stars painting
See the teaser for next week? The two female judges clash! Should be interesting…..
Really, why, is andrew still there? Go Bill and Star
I loved the beginning of tonight’s show, where Bill’s dog Star held the chip between his teeth, and didn;t eat it until after Bill read the ingredients on the package to determine tha tit was safe..Too cute!
What is Andrew still doing in this??? Totally lukewarm performance the last couple of shows - what is going on?!?! I mean, last week, with the dancing, they gave special recognition - for what?? Others were definitely better. This week - their ‘painting’ was ridiculous, the judges even basically said so, yet they stay?!?! And she has a bad attitude much of the time too. I think too that Preston should have stayed, and Andrew gone. So what if their heart looked like a pretzel some - ever seen a pretzel? It looks a lot like a heart! And she wasn’t allowed to explain their technique fully. I’m bummed about this.
I don’t think Preston should have left either, i think Lori, JD or Beth Joy should have gone. I mean it seemed like Travis and Laura were also building up a relashionship so i’ve heard. I love the other dogs but JD is way to cocky and i don’t really like Beth Joy’s attitude, Lori seems a little like a know it all….. This was another disappointing episode (when Tillman left I was also bummed).
Andrew should not be eliminated based on your opinion of Laurie. Whether you like her or not, Andrew is still a top contender and should definetly make the top three if he doesn’t win
Tillman should still be their, he was a real dogs, dog.I think the judges don’t know much about dogs. I’ve been breeding , showing, and training dogs for 35 years and dancing, painting, ect. is not what Americas great dog should be about!!!!!
I enjoyed this show, even taped it when not available until live, until tonight. Judges must have marching orders as they clearly pointed out the dislikes with the bottom 3 teams but clearly did not vote out the team they verbally felt the weakest by all of them. Shame on them and the program…you had me hooked with the personal relationships/dogs until now.. Rules have changed and we are not privy to them or the teams.
i hate the judges, they are sooo stupid and i think america should be voting considering it is called greatest american dog.
1. Andrew is a Maltese. If you listened during the judging of the freestyle event in which they gave special recognition to Laurie and Andrew, you would have heard the judges comment that Andrew was in perfect step with Laurie - and he was. You would have also heard them comment that the difficulty of engaging a breed like a Maltese in an event like this is very challenging. Thus, this challenge level was higher for Andrew than for JD. I loved JD’s and Galaxy’s performance, but I think the judges made a solid decision in this case.
2. I loved this show until last night. I had little nits, but nothing major. Then they go and force some dog people to make art and they judge on the painting alone without looking at any video showing how the painting was accomplished.
3. I cannot believe a well-known animal trainer like Victoria Stillwell would let that woman who owns Bella Starlet get away with saying that she was “working through” the paw issues with Bella. Anyone who knows anything about training knows that what we saw was nothing close to “working through” an issue like that. Bella Starlet should have been out last night. Her owner is nauseating.
4. Laurie, JD, and Bill are wonderful trainers. They are in sync with their dogs and they are incredibly dog-savvy.
5. These are the top 12 dog/people pairs in all the US? Watch any dog agility contest and you’ll find bucketloads of people with their dogs who know more than half of these contestants.
6. What makes this show fun is the interaction between these dog-knowledgeable people and their dogs. The friction they created (yes, that stuff with Laura and Preston must have been a set-up - who can believe that Laura really left all that work for the last few hours??? Who would do that at this point in the competition? And why? where was she? There’s a lot happening off camera we don’t see. I think it was a staged set-up) is not fun and seeing the scenes from next week with the judges disparaging each other made me feel sick. If this is what they think they need to gain ratings, they’ve lost me.
I was sad to see Laura and Preston go. I think Beth Joy pushed Bella too far with her paw issues — if she has paw issues, Beth Joy should have thought up a better way to get painting results, but I don’t think Bella is up to the challenge. Causing her dog to whimper doesn’t seem like “working through” an issue to me.
But this brings me to my biggest problem — the idea of dogs painting. It is absolutely ridiculous. Animals do not create art. It was a singularly un-dog-like thing to ask them to do, and I was disgusted with this task. Dancing was silly enough, but this was worse. It has nothing to do with being a dog. I’ve been liking the show up til these last two weeks. They need some better ideas for contests.
I actually LOVED JD/Galaxy’s painting. From an artistic perspective, it really had a lot going for it.
I am very glad to have a show that shows the relationship between dogs and their owner; however, the choices for competions are not representing what dogs are like.
In last nights episode 8/14/08, the judges decision puzzled me, did they wanted a picture made by the dog owner or the dog. JD/Galazy’s picture was great a great representation of “having fun”. I also love little Preston, he is such a smart little guy, and I truly hated to see him go, and again heart/pretzle what is the difference it was a picture a dog made, not the owner.
I loved when JD pointed out that dogs can’t spell — he was absolutely right! That was so comical. Maybe Galaxy is dyslexic — or maybe dogs don’t paint pictures? Go figure.
How embarrassing! Galaxy is a SHE and she’s older (age 9) than Star (age 7). Galaxy ‘reads’ like a male to me (scratching head).
