I recently had a problem with the Pedigree small crunchy bites - some of the dog food had a greenish tint to it. I returned it to the store, and got another bag, thinking it was just one bad bag. When I got home and looked at the dog food, it had the same strange look to it. Went to another store and bought a bag to see what it looked like. No green tint! There is definately a problem going on. I e-mailed Pedigree and 3 or 4 days later, I got a reply to give them a call. I did not, but I will now. I had no idea there was a problem they already knew about, which makes me very very angry. If one of my dogs had gotten sick from their dog food, I think I would be taking some type of serious action. That company knew there was an issue and should have recalled the product. I live in Sarasota Florida, so this problem could turn up anywhere! Please alert anyone you know that uses Pedigree!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I did a lot of research after my puppy started throwing up and having bloody diarrhea from Nutro puppy food! After doing hours of research, I came across a website (at the bottom of my comment) that helped TREMENDOULSY!!! It has pretty much every brand of dog food listed and has the ones that have had recalls highlighted (note that some may not have been recalled, but some have been made at a distributor that has had many recalls such as "Menu Foods")!!! I found out that ALL (Yes, you read me correctly...ALL) dog foods sold at Petsmart (and most pet stores) are linked somehow to companies that have recalls!!!! I luckily found a brand called "Natura" (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH NUTRO) that has NEVER had any recalls, and are not sold at regular stores. The bags are a bit expensive, but I would rather pay for expensive food than to take a chance on my puppy's life again!!! As soon as I took my puppy off that horrible Nutro and let him recoup on boiled chicken and white rice (the emergency vet's recommendation), he got better! "Natura" is not accessible in all states, but if you are lucky enough to be near a vet that sells it, you should do your research on it and switch your pet!!!! STAY AWAY FROM ANY PET FOODS SOLD AT A PET STORE!!!!

Here is the website that informs you of all pet foods that have and have not been recalled (again, note that some may not have been recalled, but some have been made at a distributor that has had many recalls such as "Menu Foods"):

Our dog died today! We gave him a can of Pedigree dog food for the first time last night. We did not know of all of these issues with Pedigree. Now I am concerned that this is what happened. We have 3 children and this has been horrible for them.

Most bagged foods are horrible. i wouldn't feed them to a rat. Pedigree made my dogs very sick so,like many, i switched to Purina. My dogs got sick from the purina also, I personally believe contamination is not the issue in some cases. What these companies are putting in our pets food is the real issue! I have heard/read some horrible stories and fortunately i am one of the lucky ones who's story has a happy ending. I now give my two dogs a cooked meal every night consisting of rice (brown rice is preferred but white rice will do), boiled chicken (breasts or leg quarters) and cooked carrots. I have been feeding them this new diet for three months now and i am happy to say my dogs are as healthy as they were the day i got them. No more diarhea, lathargicness or vomitting, which all can lead to death. Thank god i read some of these articles and comments! I am urging ALL pet owners to switch your pets diet to a healthy one today! If you are feeding them Pedigree or any other cheap food you are slowly killing the pet you love so dearly regardless of what any veterinarian may tell you. As a pet lover i can only hope atleast one person reads this and saves the life of their dog or someone elses. God bless.....

Has anyone had any problems with Pedigree canned dog food. I just opened a can and found foreign material (plastic wrapping paper/cellaphane in the can). I'm returning all my Pedigree cans to PetsMart and switching to another Brand. By the way I called MARS and they indicated with an "don't care" response and just told me to return any cans to the store I bought it.

I live in NC, I have been feeding my dog Berkley and Jensen's brand dog food, Small bites and bones. My dog became extremely sick about a month ago. Throwing up, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, listless, extreme weight loss. She was found to have a bacteria in the same family as Salmonella. She was treated for that but she progressively got worse. She stopped eating, continued with the bloody diarrhea, throwing up. She had to be hospitalized and put on IV fluids. Even after the bacteria was under control, she has had resulting health problems that will be with her the rest of her life. While she was back home and recovering, she was starting to eat real dog food again and guess what we gave her... the BJ brand food. She started getting worse again, throwing up. She is so thin she cannot afford to throw up. I never knew anything about the recall in relation to the food I buy. I went to the store yesterday to get more dog food since I was low and there was no BJ brand dog food at all. I went to customer service to ask and the women had no info for me, all she could say is that the BJ brand dog food I have been buying for years is no longer listed, another one is listed but is shown as discontinued. No one said anything about a recall, no sign posted nothing. My husband just happened to google the dog food just to see why it was no longer available and saw the recall. We stopped feeding her the food immediately and she is not throwing up anymore. I called the food recall number. They told me that no dog food was reported as being contaminated, it was the cat food and they voluntarily recalled all food from the plant. I no longer had my bag as I dump it into a container when I buy it. They told me they couldn't confirm if my particular bag was part of the recall but they are sending me a container to send in a sample to be tested. They are also contacting my vet for info. I am going to keep some of the food so when they come back and say it was fine I can have it tested myself. My completely healthy dog gets deathly ill out of the blue for no reason, I don't think so.
