Calling All “DAWGS”: Win 2 Nights At Dog Friendly B&B In Asheville, NC

I need a break. No, not a break off of a Kit Kat bar. But a mini vacation. I know you’re probably looking for one too. Well, I’m here to help. Here’s your chance to win a free, that’s right, free two night stay at a dog friendly bed & breakfast in Asheville, NC.
Bo recently found out that his good buddy, Ponder, runs a dog friendly B&B along with his family. I’m told his owners are only involved because somebody has to clean up after the guests. As Ponder says, “there isn’t a self respecting dog in the world that’s going clean sheets and do the windows. So I keep ‘em around.”
Well, Ponder has been looking to meet some of his dogster buddies, wet nose to wet nose, and has been gracious enough to offer the community a chance to win two nights’ free accommodations at his gorgeous bed and breakfast. Being a magnanimous owner, Ponder is also allowing parents to take part in this offer if accompanied by the winning dog.
Ponder Cove is located just 30 minutes from Asheville, NC. This dog friendly bed and breakfast country inn provides total seclusion, luxury accommodations and gourmet breakfasts.
To win Ponder Cove’s distinguished “How DAWGS Do Travel” Award it’s time to take keypad to paw and, in 100 words or less, write in the comments section below why you would be the best guest ever.
We want to hear about all your good manners and what you think makes the ultimate traveling “dawg”. The judging will be done by the Ponder Cove management team headed up by Ponder himself.
The contest will run today through August 31st. Get those paws typing, this one is too good to pass up. Good luck!!
FYI: I’m told that comments about how Spanish Water Dogs are the best breed ever will not improve your chances.

I’ve never been out of Kentucky, so a trip to the beautiful Ponder Cove sounds pawsome. I like to ride in the car, so I have transportation! I like to ponder too, and I can’t think of a better place than Ponder Cove - sounds like it was made for pondering!
And the website has a sign - “Heaven Awaits You Above”. I don’t think that means the Rainbow Bridge, so it must be something else pretty woofin’ good.
And some magazine called Ponder Cove, “comfort, sophistication, and contemporary style”. That’s me, for sure! The gourmet breakfast is right up my alley!
Thanks for the contest!
This Dawg hopes to win because I would take my winnings and donate them the the 6th Annual Tails on the Trails event: http://www.HuskyTailsOnTheTrails.com I would have them be used in their raffle auction to help raise funds to help huskies who are in need of help.
Packaged with this pawsome gift would be some important travel necessities that I would gather for the winner as well! And then the special pup who wins could be the most excellent dawg who not only travels to Ponder Cove, but they would travel knowing that they helped a special dog who needs their help.
So if I were to win, I would give my gift away.. and then my gift could be like the gift that keeps on giving!
Totally Pawsome don’t ya think?
We love taking adventures!
My buddy, Dakota and I get so excited when we know we are going bye bye. We love riding in the truck and going on adventures. We are very good when we take road trips. Dakota loves to look out the window and try to put his head out the window and feel the breeze, but (Dad doesn’t leave the window down very low. He doesn’t want him to fall out.) I just lay down and behave, until we stop. We just recently took a camping trip to Lake Gaston in Gasburg, Va. We had a cabin adjacent to my owners brothers campsite. We were very good, mom said. We even got to take a dip in the lake, although we aren’t real fond of swimming. Mom & Dad have visited Asheville, NC before, and absolutely loved it. It’s very beautiful there, they said. Ponder Cove sounds wonderful! It would be the ultimate experience for all of us. It sounds like Heaven! Thank You for offering this wonderful trip. We can’t wait to go.
Well, my cause is not as noble as Nika
and some may even say selfish….but, here goes.
My pawrents foster for Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue and My Dad is a truck driver so he’s gone a lot! This means we don’t see him near enough!!! On top of that MY house is always over run with beagles and Mom, Dad and ME don’t get very much time to ourselves let alone the ability to travel! We went on a short vacation to the NC mountains about 4 years ago and we had a blast. I would love to take my DADDY, my Mom and my brother Buddy Todd on a vacation so we could relax and spend time together just us for a few days
*Pondering to myself*…….Ponder Cove sounds absolutely Pawsome
*Secretly jumping up and down…waving paw in air….pick me…pick me…BOL*
Oh my….I got so excited about the thought of a vacation I failed to even mention what an excellent mannered boy I am. Daddy says I’m the best dog in the world and Mom says I’m like having another human at home with her. I am very well behaved and listen to my parents. I travel nicely and do what my Daddy tells me to and when we walk around our home I don’t have to be on a leash. I stay right with my pawrents. I am the caretaker of my pack and look after my brother Buddy Todd…ya know keeping his ears and face clean and stuff

Anyhoo…I am a nice traveling companion and all around great doggy…so I’m told
I would LOVE to spend two nights there just as much as anyother pup, but in case you didn’t know- My family hasn’t been on vacation in…How long mom?…Oh yeah 3 YEARS! The budget is very tight, daddy just got laid off and is out of work. A vacation would be a nice way to escape all this stress and chaos to get the dogs (and people ;)) the fresh air they so desperatley need!
My name is Hollie and I am a Basenji/Whippet mix from Knoxville, TN. My Mommy & Daddy rescued me from a local shelter and for that I am extremely grateful!!
I am very social and love people. I am lucky that I am able to go to work with my Mommy everyday!!! I love making new friends, both human and furry. I yodel when I am happiest and it makes everybody laugh.
My manners are impeccable. I am totally housebroke and since I am part-basenji I have NO doggie odor. I walk well on and off leash and would love to visit Ponder Cove and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. I also would keep all squirrels away, as I am a hunter and they are my nemesis!!
Can’t wait to visit Ponder Cove!!!
My name is Nikki and I am a Princess Pomeranian. I have 2 fursisters that mom and dad have adopted since my sister Brandy passed away. They both came from Rescues and I have been busy teaching them how to have perfect manners and be loving and obedient little angels. This has been hard work since they came with a lot of baggage from both abuse and neglect in their past. We are all housebroken, we don’t beg for food, we love to meet new friends and we clean up after ourselves. That is what makes us good house guests.
Seeing as I’m a cat, I’m taking my chances entering this contest. But I think I’d make a good traveling cat because I think I deserve to be as spoiled away from home as much as I am at home. My people would never think of leaving me like they might have left before they had a real-live pet, so if they had the chance to take me along it would prove quite an interesting experience. Since they haven’t been able to go on vacation together for a number of years, this would be something for them to look forward to, especially since my younger human’s wheelchair isn’t the folding type, so she usually stays home anymore while my older human goes places.
Well, I can’t say I’d be the best guest ever, but I am a little special. I’m a rescue miniature schnauzer who has been paralyzed in the back legs since I was born. It doesn’t stop me one bit though, and now I have my cart I run around with the best of them and I love going to the dog park with friends.
I am super sweet and loving and love all people, especially kids, and love other animals. Mommy can’t leave me at any kennel because I have special needs and need my bladder to be expressed for me to go potty, so I’m pretty used to traveling, as mommy has taken me to her granny’s for Thanksgiving, and her daddy’s for Christmas. Oh, I also flew up to Maryland to get fitted for my very first cart last December, so I really love to go on trips. Mommy really can’t visit anywhere without me, but it’s okay because I’m so loved.
We’d love to explore Ponder Cove, and we’d have a lot of fun together.
Even though Cain is only 9 months old he is very well behaved and has wonderful manners. In our opinion he is the ultimate traveling dog. We take Cain everywhere we go and everyone comments on how well he listens to us. He is house broken and will let us know when he has to go out to make. He has alot of toys so he does not destroy other peoples or our property. He’s a very sweet loving Siberian Husky that people really enjoy having around.
Hi! I’m Tohbi, a Catahoula Leopard Dog living in central Pennsylvania. I’m four years old and, coincidentally, my Mom hasn’t gone anywhere in four years - how ’bout that. I’m so utterly devoted to her - I don’t kennel well at all. She’s been looking into pet-friendly vacations, but its just never worked out.
I’d like this wonderful stay in Asheville so that we could have a lovely vacation stay on a road trip to Mauldin, SC. My Grandpap’s only brother lives there and it would be great if we (all 4 of us - Mom, Pap, Gram and me) could go and visit him for a day or two. My Mom has never been able to visit there.
We don’t really have a nobel cause either although we’re all rescued from the animal shelter, hince all our issues which translates to challanges. Our Grandma whom we never met actually graduated from Mars Hill when it was still an all women’s college. All of Mom’s family are from Boone & she hopes to move back there someday. We’ve e-mailed back & forth with Buck a little bit & we think all you guys are really cool. We think it would be really pawsome to get to meet in the live fur sometime.
You guys are the noble ones & thanks for the great contest offer to the Dogster Dogs.

I’m Baxter and I love to travel. I enjoy riding in the car more than anything (except eating)! I would love to win this trip for “mom” and me so that we could walk outside and enjoy being together. She recently took me on a short vacation to North Georgia and I behaved so well. I didn’t bark any while we were at the hotel or in the car. I shared the backseat with “Mom’s” granddaughter. And I didn’t mess up the hotel room or anything! I am always such a quiet dog that I would not disturb any of the other guests. And I would mind my “mom” when she tells me to sit and stay.
But most of all, “mom” deserves a break. She works so hard. I know she’d love a two-day getaway!

I’m Abbey, a 6-month-old Australian shepherd. My mom is a teacher and a coach. School has started, which means she has less time to spend with me than she did over the summer. I miss her! She always makes sure I get my exercise and fun with long walks and trips to the dog park, but I can only imagine how exciting it would be to get away for the weekend for a vacation with my family. My parents are so good to me, and I hope I can win this contest so I can pamper them for a change!
HI, I’m Skyler. I’m a 23 month old Siberian Husky. I have an 18 month old lab mix sister named Patch. We’re best friends. It’d be totally cool if my sister and I could experience some real nature for a change… (We live in south Fl.) I’m a Husky that’s never felt the cold… DRAMATIC SIGH…..And my parents would love this trip… Mom’s just itching to get us on a trail…that would make this puppy very happy. We’re great guest because; we’re house broken, people/dog/cat (of all shape, color, size, and age) friendly, non-destructive. Plus mommy watches us like a hawk….If two of us is too much trouble…Patch can stay home! Never mind, mom says we’d pay any extra fees for either of us. Well thanks for the opportunity.
Road Trip!
Hi, MacTavish here. My brother MacDuff and I are refined well behaved Scotties. Well MacDuff is, and I am just a little love. Ask anyone on Dogster who has met me. Mom and dad are polite and well behaved too. It’s not hard for my dad because he does things like comb the fringe on our rugs to make them look neat. I think we would be your ideal guests. You can check our Dogster pages to see just how darn cute and photogenic we are. I mention this in case you may want to use us for future advertisements.

Gizzmo here, with Harley Davidson, Chi’s, we’re black and blue, colors that is. We’re so friendly we don’t bite, but do we kiss. It’s been so egg frying hot outside here in Texas that we can’t stay out as much (pant, pant).
We haven’t gone on any road trips lately. When we do I have to sit by the window and watch everything, Harley just rests.
We’d love to come there give kisses and see what kind of fun critters you have in N.C., got squirrels? Don’t hassle with extra beds, we can sleep with mom. Can we come, please?
Hi, I’m Kiara with my big brother Rex. We love to go on trips with our parents. We haven’t been on one in a long time. I am very calm but Rex is kinda hyper. Both of us enjoy car rides and meeting new people and dogs. Both of us are house broken and very friendly. It would be so much fun if we won. I really hope we can because mommy and daddy do so much for us it would be nice to go on a little family vacation.
What a wonderful place for pups and pawrents! I love to meet other pups and mom and I love to hike. My mom deserves a little R&R as she just finished up a 6 month battle with Cancer (Non-hodgkins Lymphoma). I think we would be pawesome guests because we are ready to have a good time and are open to some emotional healing through nature. I have excellent manners, though I do slobber a bit, hehe. I do what mom tells me to and stick by her side.I am the ultimate travel dawg because I do well in new and exciting environments. Mom and I love each other very much and we would LOVE to get to know you guys at your pawesome resort! Hope to see you soon!
My name is Little Miss, also known as Precious, Baby Doll, and Spoiled Rotten. I am a 5 ½ year old Bichon Frise, which means I do not shed and I am non-allergic. I love people and people love me! I am a perfect lady and have experience staying in 5 Star Hotels/Resorts; they were made for a fluff like me. I am quiet and loveable, all of which makes me the perfect traveling dawg. The only problem we might have is that mutt of yours “tee hee” might get jealous of all the attention I will be getting.
I would be the best guest ever because no one would even know I was there–because I wouldn’t be
If I won, I would auction the two nights’ free accommodations and donate the money to an animal charity. As wonderful as it would be to spend time with my parents at such a beautiful B&B, it would be even more wonderful to help some animals in need. While we are lucky enough to spend vacations with our families, there are those who are waiting and hoping for a loving family of their own.
Help! I need a break! In the past three months, I’ve done 2 catalogues and a spread for Vogue (Oct, 2008) – and next, a bunch of strangers are going to give me a bath – for some other magazine. I love working and always listen: when she says “stay” I ask, “how long.” When she says “jump” I ask, “how high” — but a puppy needs some time away from the spotlight – know what I mean? Asheville sounds like just the place to refresh and regroup before the holiday season, when I just know they’re gonna put me in a reindeer suit.
I am actually entering for my sister. She lived in Asheville for a very short time with her fiance. They are both dog lovers and owners, and worked at a prestigeous dog care in AZ. Her fiance still lives in Asheville, and she has not seen him since she left last December due to finances. I would love for her to win this, as his birthday is coming up, and they would love to have a few days to spend together with their dogs.
We’d definitely be the best guests ever at Ponder Cove! Although I’m only a pup, I’m a well-behaved little gentleman who minds his manners.
We could use the time to strengthen our bond, since we’re rarely away from everyone else. Mom says she hasn’t been on a vacation in ten years, and I know she could definitely use one.
Everyone loves me at first sight, and I love to travel. I’m quiet, kind, and pretty darn loose with the tongue when meeting new people! Both mom and I love the outdoors, and know Ponder Cove couldn’t be more our style!
Hi. My name is Chanel, and i am a 8 week old teacup chihuahua. I love to play, wag my cute little tail, and jumping on older doggies. I love my rubber chicken that sqawks whenever I touch it! It’s scary at first, but then I got used to it when I got older. I am a very happy puppy, and I am never out of energy! I mean never…
Hello, my name is Allie. I am a 2 year old Boxer. I am Moms favorite buddy, just don’t tell Daddy! Mommy works long hours, and she is gone 12 hours a day, Daddy stays home and works out of his office, i am waiting for his fingers to just fall off from so much typing.
Our home is small, and our yard as well, when my parents can they take me for car rides, oh how i love riding with the wind blowing in my mouth, and through my teeth! Who needs dental floss when you have the wind?
I am a one and only spoiled rotten boxer. I hope one day to take Mom and Dad someplace romantic, they always seem to be working so hard, they never have time to rest it seems, a vacation can do them and i some good! One thing we never done is go hiking, that would be so awesome! Oh i wonderr what lil animals i will meet?
When mommy came to pick me up for the first time, she drove 600 miles to get me, and 600 miles home, i must be real special for her to just make a trip like that to get lil old me, so i wanna give her a well deserved trip for the favor of picking me up and loving me like i am one of her babies. Mom had a battle with cancer, she can’t have any more babies, i guess i am her youngest baby. Please let our family win this lovely trip to Ponder Cove. Maybe Daddy could rest from cooking, and Mommy can take two days off work, she needs some rest and relaxation, after we go giking, and maybe find a place to watch the sunset together.
What? A friendly bed & breakfast country inn providing total seclusion, luxury accommodations, AND gourmet breakfasts?! That’s sounds grrrrrrrrrreat! Pick Me! Pick Me!
Hi, I’m SAMSON – a 4 year old miniature schnauzer that has never been on vacation. I do have wonderful manners though – including the all important – “I do it outside.”
Being in the city is tough. I walk the same old sidewalks everyday.
Boy I’d love to be able to breathe some fresh air, hike along the creek, and just soak in mother nature. Ponder Cove sounds so wonderful. Mommy could really use a break too. BOL!
Pleased to meet you. My name is Miss Pearl, but mommy usually calls me “girly”. My absolute favorite place to be is the country, and it’d be pawsome if I could go on vacation (with mom and dad, of course) for a few days. My mommy and daddy never had a honeymoon, cause my grandmas (both) were having health issues when they got married, and then I came along. Now they don’t go anywhere without little old me. I’m very attached to my mom, so I’d be the perfect guest, too. I’m a shih tzu, so I don’t shed and I NEVER have accidents. I hope you’ll choose me!
Hello my name is Taz! I am a one year old t-cup poodle. And I have never got to go on vacation, every time my mommy, and me try to. No one ever allows me to come, so we never get to go. I could just dream of a vacation, a place where I could get away and relax, a place where atlast I am welcomed. My mommy and daddy never get to get away from home, and all because they love me and wouldnt leave me behind. So it would be very nice for me and my mommy, and daddy to get away from home to a place that is nice. And breakfast in bed that is totally pawesome! I have great manners, I never potty in the house. I am friendly. And laidback. So please pick me!
Hi Ponder,
I am a rescued mini schnauzer and I am very grateful for my forever home. I am a very good travel buddy - my Daddy takes me for car rides all the time, I just wait really patiently. My Daddy’s online friend lives in Ashville, NC and we would really LOVE to come to Ponder’s Cove. My Daddy could meet his online friend in person - and neither one of us have ever been to North Carolina before but it looks really pretty and we’d love a B&B get away. Thanks, Skipper
Wow a pet friendly bed and breakfast? I am first in line! I am a 4 year old Boxer. My mom has traveled a lot with me and I am an excellent guest if I must say so myself. I ring a bell when I have to go to the bathroom but don’t worry if no ones around I can hold it for around 20 hours with no problems. I am THE best mannered dog I know. I am stopped in stores, vet clinics, dog parks, well just about anyway and told how wonderful I am. I dress very well, have my own luggage and behave myself a lot better than most children you meet. Well and my mom could really use a couple of days of r and r and she would NEVER go without me. So I see this as a win win. I am the perfect choice!

Wow, this sounds like an extremely generous pawfer! I know my mommy and daddy would flip if they could go somewhere like that! It looks beautiful! And the chance to meet a friend? PAWSOME! I LOVE going new places and I KNOW mommy and daddy would take me in a heartbeat!!! Plus, I think they are feeling kind of bad because they are getting married in November and won’t be able to take me with them on their honeymoon…that and we just need a break! Anyway, I am VERY well behaved and even strangers love me! Paw-lease pick us! : P
I’m a cute little poodle who was found in the woods in Tampa, Fl. 6 years ago. My back leg was broken and I have a big dent in my hip from being kicked very hard.
My new dad fostered me and I won him over so he adopted me.
I live with 7 rescue brothers & sisters and I have it really good now, I would love to return to nature for a good experience ,this time with my Dad.
He needs the break as he dedicates so much time to helping rescue animals.
Thanks
Love,
Jake
My name is Max and I am a young border collie cross. That means I still have lots to see and do and learn and play with!
The only place I have visited is the family cabin at Pigeon Lake. (I found a dead fish and rolled in it - it was so much fun, but I don’t think my mom was as impressed with me).
I love to explore and I know I would love to explore your place. Also, I love to meet new friends. I have a good heart and a great Mom and I think she would LOVE to travel with me!! (We live in Canada, so it would be sooo cool to travel to North Carolina!!)
Woof!!
Hi, I’m Max, a BorderCollie mix and happy that my mom rescued me when she did(I was getting worried
My life is good now…long walks, treats, playtime, companionship, and travel-wait a minute…mmm…I’ve never been to North Carolina! BowWow, sounds like a Great place to visit. I Love to ride in the car, its my favorite,so mom takes me just about everywhere. Yes, I stick my head out the window but only for a second and I’m happy. To spend time at a beautiful Bed & Breakfast would be just what the vet ordered. I’d like to discover what the NorthCarolina mountains have to sniff at and play with. Also, I’d make friends with everyone there so I could return in the future
We are the best guests ever because we are clean and quiet. The doggies have thier own beds we pull out and they are quiet, we have a bell we hang on the door and they ring it with thier nose when they want a walk. When we leave a room, wewipe down the counters and the tub and make a pile of towels for the maid and desheet the bed folding the comforter and stacking on the corner of the bed. We respect the property and treat it like its our own. We are visiting friends later this fall so this would be perfect as I love my babies, and my babies are well behaved and have manners- ok except when they are running free catching rabbits and birds in the backyard, otherwise they are full of manners and I am very proud of them.
My name is Jill, i am a Jack Russel Terrior. But of course i think i am 10 ft tall and bullet proof, or at least thats what mom says.My mom told me about this contest and showed me the picturesof your place, and personally i think you may have a squirrel problem, and that pond looks like it may have sticks in it. i am just the dog to help you. PLUS i have impeccable manners, i only do my buisness outside, i dont bark inside, and i have never met a stranger. And i LOVE to travel, i go every where with my mom and dad. I can even spell R-I-D-E. Mom and dad havnt been able to go on a vacation this year and they really need one, plus if I get to go and dont have to sneak in the hotel (ssshhhh)that would be great. I think i am the ultimate traveling dog. I am small , quiet well behaved and I REALLY love to G-O.
My name is Katrina, I am a Golden Retriever. I am a purebred and I would just love to go to this place and run around. My mom told me all about this contest and it just made me jump up and down all day. I love to chase bunnies and other critters I am very playful and lovable. I like to travel and I like to go places with my other sisters and brothers so they might be jealous if i get to go and they do not. I also like to go swimming so if there is a lake near by I could go swimming. I am a very big dog but I am not loud. I really want to GO!
Hi, my name is Molly. My family calls me Mamaw. I am a Yorkshire Terrier and I am three yrs old. I love to be with my family anywhere and I enjoy being outdoors most of all. I have never been on a real vacation by myself with mom and dad. We have went on short trips and I love to travel. I have hiked in the Daniel Boone Forest of Eastern Ky and tracked through the streams as well. I love people and I can also entertain pretty well. My dad taught me a great game called red light, green light. He passes a wadded newspaper in front of paper changing his words , red light, red light, red light, then when he says green light, I attack the paper. I can also attack when he starts to spell green light and if he changes the words from red light and green light to say , Obama and Mccain, LOL, that works too~!
I also jump through hoops. I will do anything for FOOD~! I LUUUV food~! I will turn in circles on my toes , beg etc.
I am not much of a girly , girl though. I am a “Tom” girl, I love being outdoors~! I am well mannered and have good potty manners but I guess I could go on and on, I better stop and give others a chance. Thank you for the contest~!@ God Bless everyone, Molly~!
My name is Lucas and I live in Atlanta;
Mom says I’m magical, even more so than Santa.
I’ve lived a long life, full of hardships and trials;
But I’m finally home, after traveling hundreds of miles.
Mom calls me her angel, a gift sent from above;
She’s shown me patience and trust, but most of all love.
I’m sweet and I’m quiet, as polite as they come—
I chew with my mouth closed and don’t smack my gum!
“Please” and “thank you” are nice things to say;
Good manners are important to use every day.
Mom’s taught me well, proved to me that I can;
Today I am quite proud to be such a gentleman.
Thank you for the chance to visit your special cove;
May we meet on a trail one day to wander and rove.
I am the best guest because we own are own rental property and know how a clean place is appreciated when a guest leaves. We are also pet friendly and travel with our well behaved 10 yr old dog.
My husband and I would enjoy the vacation, but we would leave the dog at home to be spoiled by Mother.
I’m a 10lb rescued papillon. M&D just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary by going out to breakfast at McDonalds and taking me to the dog park because they love me so much and didn’t want to leave me. Your Inn sounds like a heavenly retreat and the breakfasts are divine! I’m house, crate, and leash trained and almost never bark. I clean myself like a cat and Mom wipes my feet before coming inside and she always picks up after me. If I win I’ll do a dance of joy for you!.
Wow! This sounds like such a pawsome place to go! Mommy wanted me to tell you that my brother and I are very well behaved doggies and this would be a great place for us to go. Mommy hasn’t been on vacation in years and boy does she deserve it. And what a better way to spend a vacation then with her fur babies! Mommy takes us everywhere she can. We love to go on car rides and take trips to new places. We went to Kentucky once and got to see these goats, it was so neato! We would have so much fun sniffing around the woods and exploring our new found retreat. Please please pick us!
When we saw the sign that says “Heaven Waits You Above” we got so excited because maybe that means we’ll get to see my human brother who just went to heaven last month or at least have some time to feel closer. Mom & dad would love that, and I’d be there for their moral support. They have not had any time off work since then, and it would be great to see your slice of heaven.
Since we travel together all of the time I’m a good guest. I’d do you proud with the other guests who may have never stayed at a dog friendly place. You are pawsome for offering that! Thank you for thinking about awarding someone this retreat.
I’m a great traveling companion for lots of reasons. I love the car, and am happy to be buckled in my harness. And when we’re nearing a destination I always wake up from my nap to see what my next adventure will be.
I love all other dogs, and since I’m a herding dog I like to make sure that everyone stays safely together. Hiking is one of my favorite things to do, and I go most weekends with my family. And at night… well - after playing and hiking and long trips I sleep quietly so I can wake up to another wonderful and waggy day!
- Sydney
I would be the best guest ever because I am a great listener and love to hear stories. This place sounds like this kind of place
Wow, two nights at Ponders Cove……Suzy come see this. Mom would love it if we won this for her and dad ! We can write that being hairless you do not shed, so no sheets to clean that night. I am three legged so there will be less muddy paws prints. Oh Oh looks as if it is the woods….we might have to promise not to chase chippies for a couple days. Can we do that ? Stop crossing your paws….okay they can’t see anyway. (he-he) The cats…they will be okay…Maddy will watch them. It is all set…Just hope they pick us…now how do we enter ? Hugs, Bryan and Suzy
Hi my name is Maggie Mae, I’m a border collie mix and I rescued a human, she’s a great mommy! When I picked her at a Adoption Fair at PetSmart I knew it was love at 1st sight. I didnt look too good as I was starved and beaten by a bad man who I lived with before I met my Mommy. She worked for a long time to make me as beautiful as I am today. We really have a great time together. We haven’t had a vacation is many many years as Mom watches everyone else’s dogs while they go away. I would love to suprise her with a really cool place like Ponder Cove, Can we Come? pretty please?
Woof Woof, Maggie Mae
Lexi & Miles are a fantastic Basenji duo. Miles was rescued from the pound last winter as a stray and has since gained weight and improved his emaciated appearance. Now both striking dogs are on the move and ready to come explore Ponder Cove! They enjoy sniffing, sleeping in the sun, swimming, canoeing, hiking, and chasing things. They have great manners and consider themselves to be part of the family. We’d love to come for a visit and show you how awesome they are. Miles might even tell you he loves you… his latest trick.
Hope to see you soon!
I would like to enter my cadaver dog Sable. She is also my demo dog for my obedience classes I teach. She always makes an impression with everyone that comes in contact with her. We not only run SK9S but have a recue “Little Empire Rescue”. Sable was one of our rescues. She had to be treated for heartworms and spayed. She touches everyones heart and gets applauded frequently at class.
My working dogs are all use to travel and staying in motel rooms at times. Please review our web site.
I would so love to bring my wife to your area, I love the mountains. My wife is an animal control officer and can use a relaxing time with Sable and I.
Hi Ponder, family and Pawrents
My name is Puppers and I am a Maltipom, but don’t let that scare you; I am a fun loving girl and love to run in the woods, chase lizzies and splash in puddles! Mommy likes me as a froo froo girl, but I’m a tomboy for Daddy too! I am very well behaved, never potty in the house, always listen well and am very ladylike. Mommy and Daddy say I am the best baby girl in the world!!!! We sure could use a few days in good ole North Carolina and besides Mommy use to live in Kingsport, TN and says Asheville is beautiful!!!! I’d like to see it!!!!!
Asheville, NC sounds like a very nice place to go! My furmommie works a lot & we would just luv to have the chance to go on this great trip. I’m a sweet & fun luvin pup named Percy who is full of energy & pep! I’d luv to go exploring there & meet some new friends! My furdad has been sick for about a year & we think that he would also enjoy going on this trip wif us b/c it would give us all time to go exploring , walking and just to have fun! Fun is my middle name!!! I hope there may be some water there that I can splash in….I luvs the water & I also luvs smelling & looking around at new things!!! Please consider us!!! Thanks you fur your time!!! From Percy doo & furmom Karen.
OMD what a gorgeous place! Mom and dad just realized a lifetime dream when they moved us all from Ohio to Morristown, TN. That was we dogs’ first BIG travel adventure and now we have the traveling bug! We want to see more of the gorgeous country around here!
Maggie and I are very good girls. We love to travel, don’t have accidents, are waaaayyyyy past the chewing stage (heck I don’t even chew my food half the time!), and love to be babied like divas. We NEVER get to travel with mom and dad on vacations, but this would be OUR vacation and we would even be nice enough to bring them! BOL!
My golden retriever stormy would be the best guest ever, he just takes me along for the ride. Whether he is bathing the guests who come to visit us, playing or jumping up on them for noe to nose contact, or dancing to the music on their ipod, he can’t help but makes friends where ever he goes. He has a personality you can’t help but love and a face that makes you feel guilty if you say “no, Bad dog.!”
Hi Ponder,
I am Sasha, a well behaved sassy German Shepherd. I am 2 years old and live with my brother Dozer (he is not so well) and Mom and Dad.
I would love to win this trip cuz Dad has already said I could use MOM’s car. I just can’t tell her yet till I win. I am a very good driver and have no tickets (unlike Dozer) he has a lead paw….and almost blew it for us…but he only got a warning ticket…Whew… Well Ponder, You have a great day and I hope to see you very soon! Hugs & Puppy Kisses Sasha
Hello All
My name is Bailey! I am a fun-loving, well-behaved, 3.5 month old chocolate labrador. I was born in New Hampshire and currently live with my new mom and dad in PA. I enjoy playing outdoors, swimming and new adventures. I would love to bring my mom and dad to Ponder and mark, I mean EXPLORE, a new territory!
Thanks and good luck to all,
Typed by my mother Lauren
My parents have taken me lots of places since they adopted me, but I’ve never been to NC and would love to visit Ponder Cove! I love running outside and this place looks simply pawsome, especially for a pampered girl like myself! I even have a jacket to wear in chilly weather! I am house AND outdoors potty trained, so no worries there! I love travelling and even have my own pink diaper bag to carry my goodies in! A girl simply must have her time out and Ponder Cove looks perfect for my family and I !
My name is Hanz and I am a volunteer certified therapy doggy do gooder who wags my way into hospital rooms to give lots of love, licks and perform my best canine tricks 4 times a month. My mom works many hours and takes me to the hospital for my visits on her weekends away from work. She hasn’t had a vaca in 5 years and I want go where we can ponder and wander around a pawsitively beautiful place like Ponder Cove. My grandma helped me paw-in this plea to consider me and my mom. I mind my Ps & Qs, never pee in any house and save that and my bark just for the park. Ohhh, and I’m real people pooch and canine comic who knows how to tickle your funny bone and make you laugh. Paw-please consider me.
I am actually from the area of Asheville. I would love to come and visit again and this time my pal max would be with us. Asheville is beautiful and we just want to have a great time in a great place with our new addition to the family.

Hi, I was rescued by Doberman Rescue of the Triad, in Greensboro, but it didn’t look like my chances of being adopted were very good. You see, I have diabetes insipidus and I am also blind. My new Mommy and Daddy adopted me about 18 months ago and because of my problems they haven’t been able to travel very much. Daddy was the one who convinced Mommy that I reaaly was that special dog and it would be great if he could surprise Mommy with a Get-a-Way to somewhere as lovely as this. They really have to decide where to go anymore since my monthly medication costs so much and I would really love to see them win this.
Thanks for offering this chance to pay them back for all they’ve done for me,
Stubby tail wags and Dobie leans,
Takoda
Ponder this…
I’m Casey, an 8-year-old Border Collie who lives with a 9-year-old cat named Boo Radley, and a mom and dad who are… well let’s just say they’re not spring chickens! I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to listen to mom and dad reminiscing about their wonderful trips to North Carolina — hiking through Pisgah, playing at Slippery Rock, whitewater rafting the Nantahala, the Blue Ridge Parkway… Sounds like the purrfect place, Boo says! But have they ever taken ME to visit their eden? Uh… NO!
They are even talking about moving us all to the Asheville area! Well, I for one, would like to check out the place before I pack up my food and water dishes! Ponder Cove sounds like a great place to get my paws wet. And best of all, we could leave Boo Radley at home to take care of the goldfish!
Thanks for letting me get in my two cents worth. I’m pawsitively excited about the chance to visit and meet Ponder, the best breed ever Spanish Water Dog!
Casey
I’m Hershey and I have it rough. We are still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and our home isn’t fixed yet. Now, we are looking down the barrel of two hurricanes; Gustav and Hannah are both threatening to come here. If they do, we have to evacuate. To make it worse, I just tore my right ACL. It was just 6 weeks ago that I had surgery to fix my left ACL when I tore it. So, now I have to evacuate and I can’t even walk very well. I have to have surgery on Thursday. I need a break.
My name is Precious and I get really sad when my parents can’t take me with them on their little jaunts. Do you know how many places say “No Pets Allowed”? I love, love, love to go for rides in the car! I also have very nice manners and know where and when to go to potty. My mommy and daddy would love to take me to a place where I’m welcome. Oh, I should add I don’t take up much space because I only weigh 5.1 pounds. Sincerely, Precious, the Long Hair Chihuahua
Hello
I’m Hampton, I’m 2 years old next week and have 3 4-legged siblings. Mom and Dad deserve a vacation just because! But, if they are going on a vacation, and I have anything to do with it, I want to be able to go with them. Now they do travel some but mostly to see parents in Ohio, and my 2 legged brother in DC as well as my 2 legged sister in Atlanta. When they do travel they sometimes take me and/or Riley, but so many times they can’t for all kinds of reasons, ie “it’s too hot,” “we’re not welcome”, “the apartment’s too small.”
They have gone to a lot of trouble to spend time with me and my brother and sister (not “P” because he’s a cat, a friendly one, but still a cat) training us, getting us trained well enough to earn the Good Citizen tag that’s on my collar. They even said I had such a good personality that they let me try for the Delta Society Companion Animal test, and Mom and I took the test, and we passed!
Mom says when I’m home with my brother and sister sometimes I’m a little trouble maker, but she brags on me when I travel with them. I try to be polite, I don’t jump on people, I sit when I’m told to; I just love getting to go places with them.
So, Mom’s a teacher, Dad’s just retired, they’ve worked hard around the house all summer, except when they left us with Brooks the dog sitter, and WE could use a nice break to see something new and somewhere that would let ME! come!

I am 14 years young, I had my eye removed 3 years ago. They said I had cancer in it. But that was just a little set back for me. But this hearing problem is getting much worse now, and when my Mom goes to “work” she has to really holler so I can hear. I can be very studious and sometimes people call me a little ole man, but I am “Beagle”. My nose often leads me to places I should not be. And although my hearing and eye sight are failing, I am so loved. My Mom she is always concerned for me, she just moved so I could have a yard, fenced in though. But that is OK, I am not much on digging out anymore, but I still love to run and play. ]
I would love to visit the mountains and get away from the “cat” who tries to take my food, for just a couple of days. I am a good traveler and go with my Mom to show real estate often, but I am starting to have a hard time getting in and out of the vehicle, I must admit. I will be respectful of my surroundings as always, for I am “Huckleberry”.
We have heard so many good things about Asheville and would love to come and visit you! This would truly be a family vacation - one that includes us! Mom and Dad always work so hard and do so much for us - we are both rescue dogs - it would be so nice to do something for them. What a special trip this would be! We like to go for hikes and chase after sticks. Oh yes, Mom chases sticks too. She tries to beat us to it when Dad throws it.
Sincerely,
Toby (German shepherd/Akita) and Zoey (German shepherd)
Thanks for the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful and interesting spots in the US. We would be great guests because 1) We have an adorable miniature poodle that is loved by everyone who meets him. He is very well behaved and nevers sniffs places he shouldn’t and wouldn’t be caught dead by acting like a low class male of any gender! 2) We always clean up after him. 3) He has had a hard life with 2 near death illnesses and one surgery that forced him to live on the couch for a year. This all has left him and us needing a vacation badly and Asheville would be our first choice!
me and my dog buddy(brussels griffon) need this very much. me and him both no matter how pathetic it sounds have never gone on a vacation. we both have a severe case of cabin fever which can only be cured with this trip. i think that we need to bond and what better way then 2 nights in the fabulous dog friendy b&b. with this vacation we would have a memory that will last a life time. buddy is house trained and very friendy to all dogs and humans. all i can ask is please honor us with this vacation.
I did my student teaching at Johnston Elementary in Asheville, NC. I graduated from Mars Hill College. As a recently retired elementary school teacher I would love to go back to Asheville with my husband and Yorkie, Daisy! Fall in the mountains would be WONDERFUL! Thanks!
We are the fearless four rescue dachshunds that have found our way into the loving arms of ma and pa Ledbetter…better known as Paula and Paula Ledbtter
We would love to come and visit at Ponder Inn, Ma and Pa so need a vacation from taking care of us day in and day out. I am Bella and I was a rescue 18 years ago from Virginia Beach, and I am still going strong, can you believe I am that old well this is my story about my sisters and brother.
Little Zoe was the sickest rescue yet and they were not sure that she would make it…Ma said go ahead do everything possible save my zoe, ma had only had Zoe for 3 days, some ugly man had put his boot into her ribs more than once and she still hung on. Dr Klemm saved her life, he removed 12 teeth that were so rotten and she only weighed 4 lbs at 9 years old when ma and pa went to get her. now she weighs almost 12 lbs how’s that for vittles.
Sadie is from Cape Cod rescue, she was loved by her former family they couldn’t take care of her any more..Max he is the babiest of all and he thinks he runs a harem. Max was kept in a crate and when he was brought home by Pa..well you would have thought he died and went to heaven, he has 3/4 acre of 6ft fence to run in and boy does that fool run. He loves to travel now, we go camping a lot and ma and pa always take us along if they can.
If we could just come and visit, the moutain air will do us all good, especially Zoe. If you saw us you would love us to death, we love people and are so well behaved.
I am so sorry my paws are so sore from typing that I put in Ponder INN, My eyesite is failing so I should have put in Ponder Cove. There are some typos arthritis is rampant in my beautiful body, but I do still persevere
Hi my name is princess and I act like a princess, and i know if i come to visit ponder cove i know i would be in dog heaven it looks like it has everything i like a pond, a place to take a nice walk to take care of business cause i never do my buisness in the house i love going places i always greet my freinds with a wagging tale both four legged and 2 legged i know you treat your guest like royal family thats why when i get back from ponder cove i will tell everbody how great it is there and give you4 paws up
I would love to visit Ponder Cove. My brother Buddy and I have never gone on a vacation with our humans. See, there are four human kids plus Mom and Dad and then so few places that will allow dogs. I know that’s not right, but that is the rules. My pawrents will celebrate 20 years together on October 1 of this year and I just know that if Buddy and I won a weekend at Ponder Cove, Mom and Dad would be right welcome to join us. (Forget those human kids.) I might even share my breakfast. : )
My three chihuahuas, Fred, Lucy and Alfie, are truly my lifesavers. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with meningitis, and had a lumbar puncture to save my life. During the week that I was sick I would get out of bed and let my three kids out to do their business, They were perfectly behaved, doing what they needed and coming back to me. They spent the week curled up next to me in bed. I was so sick that I had made my peace, and was ready to go if it was my time. But my three angels pulled me back. Every time I would pull the covers over my head to stay warm, I would see their beautiful little faces looking up at me, willing me to go on.
I’m better now, but due to all of my issues I can’t say that money for a vacation is possible. These three babies are so good, and deserve more than I could ever give them. We would love to have a couple of days together in our own world, where we could just be together and share special moments.
All of the entries look so deserving. Each with a great dogs and their companions. So perhaps I should just give the key board over to my girls, Gennie and Apatchie two wonderful Aussie Shepherds. Yes 2 not 1. Seems I just could not separate sisters. Patches (for short) is a blue merl Gennie a tri-color I think that Patches would be a better one for the writer of this.
My sister and I have been separated from our dear partner. She left to with her mate for Florida and I guess one thing led to another and we have been here in Tn. for several weeks now. We are lonely and would love to just get away with her and Dad. Our paths where our walks once led are now grown over. We long for the day to feel her gentle pat on our heads her scratch behind our ears. Until then.
Just simple we love each other and want to spend time with each other.
Hi Everyone, I’m Brody, a white retriever and I’m 11 months old. I live in the desert so a romp in the cool of NC with trees would be heavenly. I would love to learn and smell new things. My people Mom would love to visit and meet some new people and see places she has never been to.
I would be well behaved because I went to school. I couldn’t chase sticks and blowing leaves there. Could I do that in your yard? Please let us come. Please please. I’ll give you my paw to say thank you.
Since there is only one winner, I hopes it’s mememe! I pack lightly. I would bring my great personality and wagging tail. Mama will probably pack the whole house, but she means well. I love the outdoors and know this would be a great escape for both of us. If I don’t win, I hope the one that does has a great time. High five!
No matter where I am, I will always be happy beside my mama. She’s a good girl!
We would love to win a trip for our momma & daddy. Momma & Daddy work in this very hot place called a factory and work sometimes long hours. But momma always makes sure that our neighbhor Jim is able to let us out everyday and if they work longer she calls Jim. Momma had back surgery a year ago and her back still isn’t right. I stayed by my momma’s side through it all. Momma tells me(Medusa) that I saved her life because she was pretty bummed and didn’t even want to get out of bed. But I would encourage her to do so that she could get better. Momma got me a new sister named Mosconi and she is an English Bulldog puppy only 13 weeks old. Momma quit smoking so Me and Moss wouldn’t have any health problems and so she could get better and we could go for lots more walks and maybe get to do dog agility again. Momma loves us as much as she does anything else in life. Momma sometimes finds strays and helps them find homes. Please pick our momma because we don’t get alot of time with both momma & daddy.
Thanks
Medusa & Mosconi
What a beautiful photo. Reminds me of childhood days. We would love to have some time in Asheville, hiking and shopping, just enjoying life. Have a blessed day.
I am entering because I am currently infested with Dawg’s, therefore, Ponder would have his choice of any of my 7 to choose to hang with for 2 glorious nights. Here is the list for Ponder to choose from:
Mickey Mouse, Poodle, age 11
Minnie Mouse (brother of Mickey), Poodle age 11
Tarrah, Chihuahua mix rescue, age 4
Pooh Bear (a real little pistol), Pomeranian, age 1
Tinkerbell, Chihuahua, age 9
Nacho (very crabby), Chihuahua, age 9
Bella, Labrador Retreiver rescue, age 2
As you can see, Ponder, we have a plethora or dogs from which to choose. You could even choose all 7. My owners like dogs better than most people and they are quite anxious to meet you. Your B&B looks totally awesome!
Hi my name is Buford. If you see me you would know why. I believe my roots are from that part of NC. I know how to respond to southern hospitality. My pets(they think they are my masters but i know better) could really enjoy qualtiy time with me.
Since my mom and I just got back from a long car ride, we might be a little too late to enter this, but I told her to try anyway! I am a 7 month old Jack Russell that loves to meet new people and playmates. Because my mom travels a lot for work, I end up at hotels for work things, not for fun. A weekend away JUST FOR ME would be wonderful. My mom always makes sure that she cleans up after me since I tend to pull the stuffing out of my toys. I know the difference between my toys and what belongs to the hotels. My mom won’t let me chew on the bedspread, I did try! I appreciate you considering me!
Hi Ponder! I am a 12 year old Cocker-Mix and my Mom rescued me when I was 6 mos. I am a little on the chub side as I like to eat the other guy’s food and lay around. But I trecked up a Tennessee Mountain a while back. I just love being outside in God’s nature. I dont get to go very often, so this gives me and my Mom some quality time together, with my 13 year old Sister. Mom’s a single Mom and loves Nature and Dogs. She works hard but would like to share some time with me before I go to the big Doghouse in the sky! Puleeez consider me! The BIG CHEX.
Hello Ponder People and Pups!
My name is Captain Jack. My first memory of a travelling was when my pawrents rescued me from a shelter. I kept chomping at the air blowers in the car because I had never been anywhere other than a box and a cage. I now know freedom and love the grass under my feet, the wind in my fur and investigating all leaves that blow by my nose. I know that fall time in North Carolina will give me the opportunity to really collect leaves !
hi,my name is lilly im a toy poodle im from the bronx in n.y., ive never been out far from my house im very shy but very loving and well behave im a little scare around other dogs that are very excited because im very calm i would love to have an experince some where out of the city where is nice and calm and i could meet other people that are very friendly and could teach me new ideas and i could break out of my shell. there is nothing better than the great out door i hear.
Pnder…Buddy…Pal. It’s Mac and Garth here and we would love to come and see you. I suppose we could bring mom and dad even though last year when they went on vacation to get married we couldn’t go b/c it wasn’t pet friendly - We don’t know who would want to go to any place like this?! Anyway, we love going for rides in the car and we love spending time in the country with the beautiful scenery and wildlife. We promise if you pick us to come spend time at Ponder Cove we will be on our best behavior and mind of manner! Hope to see you soon!
My name is Laci. I have 2 sisters, Mili & Sadi. Not blood sisters. We are Boxers. My Mom got us when she had to take disability. She had worked 35 yrs & didn’t have the time,( which we deserve), to spend w/ furry friends. So instead of going to Pain centers & taking all sorts of medication, she decided to get us to occupy her mind & contain sanity. Sooo we have done that & for 4 yrs now we have been the best mental & physical therapy ever! My Mom is doing better & now is able to travel so to be able to go to Ponder Cove w/us would be the best ever!! We would be good. We all get along great & all sleep together, take showers & everything together! We wouldn’t be any trouble as long as Mom’ there!! Mili says if we all can’t come, she’d stay w/Nana as she loves to stay there too!! Pick me so Sissies & I could really surprise the best Mom ever!! (:>) Laci, Sadi & Mili
Hello There.
Im Samson, and I would love to have a get away with my Mom. She was on a TV show in Canada, so we missed eachother alot. While filming Nanna would hold something to my ear that had her voice in it, but there is no subsitute for a night of cuddling with your Mom. I love to go for wandering walks with my Mom to. She is so nice and lets me off the lead, I make sure no to get to far from her because she trips alot and I can always get in a good roll in the grass when she is down. lol. My Mom is always telling me how good I am too, because I never bark unless she asks me to.
I love my Mom and would be so happy to go on a nice trip with her.
Sincerly
Samson Lamma Duck.
Hi,
I think my dog, Abby and my mom would be good guest because we have never really been on a vacation cause we can’t afford it. And lately, all we’ve really felt is sadness and loneliness since our other dog just recently left us. Being able to go away, would not only be great for us, but also great for Abby.
I hope you choose us.
God bless,
Kim
Hi , Im sonny Im a 4 year old cairn terrier and my mom, Dad and I live in New Jersey and we are very close and wherever mom goes I go. Dad works 2 jobs but he always finds time for mom and I.. I love riding in the car and taking long car rides. I am looking forward to smelling the new smells and pondering in the woods in asheville nc. Hi, my name is Ruger, I’m a chocolate Labrador. My family and I live on a military base where mommy and daddy work an awful lot! I don’t remember a time when I was last outside of these base walls. We’re in Arizona, and we walk the same hot streets and sidewalks everyday…ouch! I would aboslutely LOVE to take a trip where we can all be together for a change. Being a military pooch is hard! I would love a trip with my family, away from the city, away from the smog. I’d love to be able to experience what fresh country air feels and smells like. Ponder Cove sounds wonderful, and I’d be more than grateful if you chose me to take that well-deserved vacation with my family!
