Update: Charges Filed In Tarpon Springs Puppy Mill Case

The following is an update from the Suncoast Animal League concerning the case of Teresita Hughes.
PALM HARBOR, FLORIDA August 7, 2008
We have recently learned that the Office of the State Attorney for Pinellas County has filed a46-count information against Teresita Hughes for cruelty to animals. Each count is for misdemeanor animal cruelty, punishable by up to one year imprisonment and/or up to a $5,000.00 fine for each count. Ms. Hughes’ arraignment is scheduled for August 18, 2008.

It’s a shame that people would do this to animals. I think it is society that creates situations like these. People demand cute puppies, which inspire other people to create puppy mills, which turn to churning out ill-bred dogs which creates costs for the buyer which in turn will spend a lot of money trying to fix genetics or giving up the puppies, vicious cycle. Please adopt from a shelter.
YAY for the state attorney! I believe this is the woman who was to receive 60 or so of her 120+ dogs that were seized from horrendous conditions, right? My heart was breaking for the loving foster humans who had lovingly provided for these animals.
Maybe some animal lovers made enough noise that someone in the right position listened.
